Move Smart Relocation

MoveSmart had an error on their end that messed up my moving date in their systems, even after I confirmed from them November 11, 2020, resulting in at least $600 of extra personal expense to myself for hotels and airfare when they missed my move-out dates of Dec 28-29. I called once on Dec 27, twice on Dec 28, and then again on Dec 29, when I was finally told they did not schedule the truck correctly.

David Ocean, the apparent manager, was only authorized to offer me a $400 refund for my "inconvenience" despite this being 100% MoveSmart's fault. I was then told a crew would come to my house on Dec 31st. I got a call on Dec 30, that a crew would be at my house in 2 hours. Once onsite, after they had loaded my items, they changed a flat fee of $3500 to $4500 without m y knowledge or consent. They would not securely take my items without me paying for the extra, despite me disputing it and showing them a copy of my signed contract from November. I HAD NEVER SEEN THIS ADJUSTED CONTRACT WITH THE $4500, and it definitely did not have my signature.

I followed up with Chris Ocean first week of January 2021, and he told me they had another "error" in entering the apparent $400 refund that led to me be charged another $1000. He offered to refund the $1000 they erroneously charged but refused to honor the $400 refund agreed to in email, wrongly insisting that the $400 refund was somehow part of $1000, which is not mathematically possible. He refused to provide this amount to me that he had promised, and stopped all communication on January 8, 2021.

Not a moving company...

They are a broker and they hire absolute terrible moving companies. Worst experience ever. Told us the truck got in a crash and all of our stuff was damaged. Then a driver called us and said it was put into storage. Lying constantly. We actually had to call the cops to get ahold of someone at the company. DO NOT USE THEM. Was quoted a number on the phone, then when the movers showed up, they added $6000 to the total. Complete SCAME.

Here's the email I sent to the company 3 days after my experience on 1/15/21.

Hello, I will not be choosing your moving company.  My initial experience was so bad.  While talking to Aaron to relate the inventory, there was so a lot of noise in the background - other agents talking to clients I imagine. I kept telling him that I couldn't tell if he was talking to me or if it was the background noise.  Then Aaron passes me to Brendon. The background noise was less.  However, as Brendon was reviewing the inventory many items were incorrect.  Brendon got so frustrated he said, "I can't talk to you any more"  and hung up.  I was so shocked, I had to get up from my desk and shake it off.  I was that bad.

This company is unreliable. You can never get anyone to answer the phone once they book your move and take your money!! The movers showed up and said the contract I signed was null and void even though they had a list and sizes of all furniture. I had even gotten rid of a lot of the furniture. The movers said because I had "Bulky" items that it would cost me $600.00 per bulky item and that each piece of furniture needed to be packed meaning wrapped with moving blankets and shrink wrapped which came at a heft price. Needless to say they wanted to charge me an additional $4400.00. The guy walked out of my house when I refused to sign the new agreement because I was trying to call MOVESMART to see if this was correct because Joseph Hamilton guaranteed in writing in an email that I would not get charged additional $$.

They agreed to take the furniture but no boxes or totes and not picture and no "Bulky" items because they would not refund my money already paid. I had to get a U-Hauland move the rest of the stuff down. It has cost me an additional 3000. but still cheaper than what they wanted to charge me.

Also the movers said they would not guarantee a delivery date unless I paid an extra $1500.00 and "by law they had up to 21 days to deliver"

Now 14 days later I haven't heard a word and no one at either place the moving company nor MOVE SMART will answer their phone.

I am warning you no matter how "CHEAP" they quote you, in the end you will pay. I am now warning you not to use this company but use a company that owns their own trucks. I should have listened to the reviews.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $6700

This company is is a total sham. they did pick up as scheduled. I was told 3-4 days for delivery-it was 19. every time I called to check status they told me they reached out, but hadn't gotten a reply. don't you think they should know where my property it is at all times. I saved the confirmation email (contract), but when I tried to look at it again it wasn't there, stated "order fulfilled" or something like that. I asked several times for it to be sent to me, never got. the guys that picked up in Granite Falls, MN told me they were bringing it to Minneapolis where it would go on semi to Portland, OR. and it would then take 3-4 days to get here. When it finally arrived the driver told me he just got order 4 days ago and it took him 3 days to get here. He didn't think he could get to house because of narrow streets. My son gets in and out just fine and he drives a very big tow truck for big rigs. the driver had 2 guys here to move the stuff into my new place, but because the driver said he had to park a block away they would have to charge me extra. This did not set well with me or my son, who then drove his pick-up to the truck and even helped them load and unload. the driver said he would send receipt to my email, he didn't and when I text him he said he would as soon as he stopped. never happened. So I have no receipts from any of them. Each one blamed the other. The company stated they are not responsible after they contract out. They are the ones that set this up I assumed they were the movers and responsible as if I ran a catering company and hired people to cater a party-I would be responsible. Also somewhere along the way, weather with drivers 1, drivers 2, or the warehouse it sat in for almost 3 weeks some of my stuff was gone through and a bottle of about 80 ambien were taken (this is a controlled substance-makes it a felony) the BBB has worked with me, the company takes no responsibility tells me to get a hold of drivers, however they have no info on them to give me.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $1800

Canceled our move before "their" 72 hour policy. Been well past "their" 15 day processing refund still no check. which was $1000. Dodging our calls and emails. Very rude too when they actually do answer. I've got screenshots of their website, emails, call logs, etc. If we don't get our money back this week we are going to talk to lawyer that does not lose and my uncle in the FBI as well as other state agencies in Florida. This is absolutely rediculous and these people need to be investigated, ALL of them!

Don’t ever use them! I had to be out of my place in Seattle on May2nd(Saturday) and they assured me someone would be there to pick it up. My landlord had new tenants moving in that Wednesday and needed my stuff out. They still had not picked up my stuff and it is now Tuesday. I had to pay an extra $548 for other movers to move my stuff to my friends house in Seattle which was 20 minutes away (luckily my friend had space in her home). Turns out they did not have any moving company booked and told me that no one wanted to take my route from Seattle to Denver and that I need to pay more money if I want to look more desirable so the movers would take my route. Eventually movers come a few days later. They make it seem like they were on the way with my stuff when in actuality it was sitting in a warehouse. They tell me they have up to 21 days to hold my stuff not including weekends or holidays. They literally used up the full 21 days and I am now receiving my stuff over a month later. The United moving company just told me it would have been a lot easier and cheaper if I booked with them instead of through a broker.
