Long-distance move from Washington DC to Maine

Awful experience.

Estimate from Medal of Honor Moving is $1600 with 200cf. Sub-contracted company that did the actual move, CR7 Moving & Storage price came to $2826.25 with 425cf. Several days prior to the move, I asked MOH Moving if the estimate needed revising because we needed to add 5 items. I was told ‘no,’ by the salesman because we didn’t use as many boxes as listed in their estimate. This turned out to be the basis for the extra cubic feet involved. (The items weren’t large. The extra items were a stick vacuum, 2 standard sized suitcases, a wire plant stand, and a small bedside table.) I also texted a detailed list with all measurements of items to be moved along with pictures to our salesman and their moving estimator 3 days prior to the move and I was told nothing needed to change as far as price.

This move had to happen on specific dates. Salesperson stated twice in writing that this move was ‘easy’ and would happen as planned. Day of the move and no call from movers. Call MOH Moving and was told by customer service that the move is happening on different dates than needed, and that I signed a contract showing a 2-day window. I explained that I had in writing - twice - from their salesman that the move would happen on specific dates and customer service said that wasn’t allowed. All she kept talking about was the contract that I had signed, not about what the salesman had agreed to.

I have written a letter and spoken with customer service about this move asking for a refund, and I was told over the phone a refund wasn’t an option because “the move happened.”

I have filed a complaint with the USDOT regarding this move. So many things that went wrong that shouldn’t have.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1600

Official company response

The customer agreed to a pickup window of November 8th and 9th we have signed documentation that clearly states that. The customers quote that she agreed upon was based on 200 cubic feet for $1,600.

When the carrier arrived the customer had more items which equals more cubic footage and an additional cost. Based upon the Bill of Lading signed by customer at pickup she had 425 cubic feet which is more than half of what she was quoted. If you do the math double would be equivalent to $3,200 not $2,826.25 as outlined in customer's claim written above. So the total cost of the move was discounted by $374 not including 25 extra cubes which is equivalent to $125 give or take. So now we are looking at a move that was discounted around $500 from my perspective as a manager that is extremely reasonable.

Our crews work very hard to provide quality service and it is not fair for them to load and unload additional items at no cost whatsoever.

Long-distance move from Exeter, NH to Thornton, CO

Unexpected increase on day of pickup.

My daughter moved from NH to Colorado in December. I searched online for a good Move Company and was quoted the best deal by Medal of Honor. I was even happy because my dad was a veteran, but that was a mistake. When I called for the quote, the sales guy Mike Scott was a typical salesman telling me that the cost he quoted was the best. I told him I would be getting quotes from others now that I had an idea of the cost and he told me not to waste my time. I was quoted $1,682.72 after my daughter gave him a list and size of the inventory. It was a small move.

The movers showed up on 12/5 four hours late and immediately I was asked for a copy of my quote as boxes were already put on the truck, the guy tells me my quote was way too low. New price increased to $3,716.00. I was in shock!! He said because MOH did not send someone to take inventory it was quoted for a smaller space! MOH never even suggested on coming by to look at inventory and said the size he quoted would be correct.

I called customer service as the movers were loading and I got no help other than they would review and get back to me. If I canceled move, I was told I would have to pay a cancellation fee and other charges for the truck to drive from NJ to NH to get my stuff and we needed to move. I was trapped!!

Customer Service called a month later after I kept following up saying there was nothing they could do. I plan on taking this further, but wanted to write this so others are not trapped like me and others who have had complaints. DO NOT USE THIS MOVER! It is a broker and not the actual moving company!! BEWARE!!

Move size: Studio Service cost: $3716

Official company response

I carefully reviewed and investigated this claim to the fullest degree. The original quote was based on 158 cubic feet, when the driver arrived there were more items than the initial quote the cubic footage tripled to 450 cubic feet as opposed to the original quote of 158 cubic feet.

Unfortunately, we cannot expedite 450 cubic feet 2,009 miles at the same cost of 158 cubic feet. I do realize that you felt you were in a situation that was out of your control and that you needed to be out.

Due to that fact, I will gladly provide some compensation out of the respect and empathy I have for our customers feelings. Feel free to contact our customer service line at 844-677-4836 we will be waiting on your call.

Reminder, every customer of Medal of Honor Moving Group is important and we take into consideration every aspect of your move in its entirety.

Stay away SCAM.

This company is a complete scam. We have been waiting for more than 24 hours for pick up. They never confirmed or showed up on 3/14 the first day (which is the pick up date in the contract). Later they called and confirmed that they will show up between 4 AM and 6 AM on 3/15. We stayed awake and now it’s 7:36 AM no one showed up or called and no one answers from customer care.

Save yourselves the time and the money and get another moving company. If you get a quote from elsewhere and the contract they send has this Medal of Honor logo STAY AWAY. Horrible experience so far and I haven’t even had a pick up.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1800

Official company response

To everyone who is reading this claim.
The customer was scheduled for a 2 day pickup window which was March 14th and March 15th the dispatch called 24 hours prior to the 1st scheduled move date and told the customer that the pickup would be between the hours of 4-6 p.m. on the 15th.

We do not pick customers up between the hours of 4-6 a.m. due to noise ordinance laws. After 20 years of being in this business I have never heard of any customer being picked up within that time frame.

First of all it is very disrespectful, I am apologetic that the customer had confusion with the time difference. There are numerous reasons why would never pick a customer up within the time frame of 4-6 a.m. for example awakening the neighbors, customers could have children, and how suspect would it look for a moving company to be moving furniture out of a home at that time of the morning. We received a call from the customer at 9:30 a.m indicating she wanted to cancel her move and that she had found another company. That cancellation derailed a perfect route to Texas. The customer would have received their belongings within 3 to 4 days of pickup. Due to the cancellation, we now have to explain to all the other customers in that route that they will be delayed.

Long-distance move from Dobbs Ferry, NY to Sanibel, FL

Company tried to extract additional money at time of delivery.

I signed a binding estimate (similar in amount to what I had received from other companies) to move an antique secretary from a house in a suburb of NYC to a house in Florida. Medal of Honor was given a photograph of the item, its measurements, and an accurate description of the pickup and delivery particulars. The price I was quoted ($1,100) was for a minimum weight and volume, which my item was way under. I was unable to reach my Medal of Honor salesman after I signed the binding estimate. At the time of delivery (I was given less than 24 hours' notice), the pickup and delivery company, CR7, told me that I would have to pay the remaining amount of the contract plus an additional $1,500. When I protested, the additional amount increased to $2,500, and I was told that if I didn’t pay, my item would be taken to the company’s warehouse in New Jersey where it would be stored at my expense. When I called Medal of Honor Customer Service, a surly young woman supported the additional charge. She offered a compromise price of $1,000 over the binding estimate. It was only because I was able to contact a friend who happens to be an expert in long distance moving that I succeeded in taking delivery of my item at the contracted price.

I am not sure who the guilty party is: CR7 (the pickup and delivery company) or Medal of Honor (the broker) or whether they are both in cahoots. My experience appears to be similar to what others have experienced.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $1100

Official company response

After receiving and reviewing documents, we have come to the conclusion that the customer signed a revised contract for 300 cubic feet as opposed to the 100 cubic feet she was quoted for. Also due to the handling of these particular items the carrier had to properly secure items with additional packaging and wrapping which increased the cost. There is also a bulky fee applied due to the fact we were unable to stack anything on top of the customer's items on the truck. As the customer mentioned in the claim above we were able to provide her with a discount. It is our goal to be reasonable with each and every customer even though the task may be challenging.

Long-distance move from California to Pennsylvania

Dishonest and rude.

They made a poor (and low) estimate on the phone, arrived and told us it was more than 3x the amount of the estimate, and then repeatedly made rude comments (various people on the phone, customer service, warehouse manager) trying to tell us we messed up and were stupid for misjudging the amount of stuff we had. We anticipated having more than the estimate, but more than 3x? One person even threatened to sue us (over what, I have no clue). They are so rude and dishonest. They even implied that we were too poor.

One of the movers seemed to fake a call to the warehouse to make it seem like his hands were tired.

An awful experience during the COVID-19 pandemic that is already stressful. DO NOT USE THEM.

They took our deposit because of the wording in their contract so took money from us for doing absolutely nothing. They continued to call us after we cancelled and decided to give our info to a bunch of other moving companies (perhaps associated with them?) and now we won't stop getting calls and texts.

A messed up company. They should not be allowed to get away with acting like this. Given how stressful things are right now with the pandemic and unemployment, you'd think they might have some empathy and speak nicely--even if they couldn't change the cost. In fact, while my wife and I were distraught at the huge cost increase, we still might have used them if they weren't so rude. It felt like they were trying to intimidate us. They are a scam and deserve to be taken to task.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $945

Official company response

After further investigation we have concluded that the initial estimate had a total of 72 items and when the crew arrived the client had a total of 217 items. We tried to negotiate a fair and reasonable price for the customer but we were unable to come to a happy medium. We incurred expenses due to the fact that we have driven several hundred miles and reserved ample space for the customer's belongings. Due to the cancellation, the route that was strategically planned in advance fell apart affecting other booked customer's along the way. The customer's signed and a greed to a contract with 72 items provided to sales representative and unfortunately it was off by a drastic amount. Even though the discrepancy does not lye on Medal of Honor we are proudly able to provide the customer with up to 2 years to utilize the deposit. Meaning any family or friend will be able to use that credit. If there are any further questions or concerns feel free to contact our customer service line at 844-677-4836.

Dont Hire Them.

We were lead to believe this was a moving company. They are NOT A MOVING Co. They are simply brokers. Our property was contracted for pick up on or near June 27th. They contacted us the following week to tell us the truck was full and couldn't get our property. They then said it would cost nearly $1000 more to pick it up! I asked to have a manager call me..never happened. I write this on July 21st and still NO DELIVERY OF MY PROPERTY! When I call them, I get the typical answering machine, with NO RETURN CALL. They have transferred my property to another company now and I have no idea where it is. I had to pay over $3000 additional and still no delivery. This company will low bid and then screw up, and charge more, then sell off to another company that will gouge you. I am in process of hiring an attorney and going after them. DISGRACEFUL THAT THEY USE THE NAME OF OUR MILITARY HEROES. THIS Co. IS DISHONEST AND NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN!

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $1200

Official company response

Based upon the items list provided over the phone, by the customer, indicated he had only 150 cubic feet. When the carrier arrived he indicated that the customer had 550 cubic feet. We also found out that the customer's items came out of a storage facility and have been stored for quite some time. In the customer's defense, it is hard to gauge the exact items in a storage unit but he also knew that our pricing is based on cubic footage. There is no way possible that we can transport 4 times over the estimated cubic feet at the same cost of the original estimate. Due to the unexpected extreme overages delivery has now been delayed. The customer must take into consideration that their original truck heading to Colorado was full to capacity. Therefore, we had to make other arrangements to expedite all items in totality on the next route available. We are in communication with the driver and will be updating the customer in a timely manner in regards to his delivery.

Long-distance move from Huntington, NY to Naples, FL

Huntington NY to Naples, Florida.

I'm always a little nervous using moving companies cause you never know what your going to get. I chose Medal Of Honor Moving Group and was not let down. The man I spoke to on the phone was extremely helpful and very precise with pricing pickup and drop off dates and times. I've used different moving companies before so was still worried because what they tell you on the phone and what happens is usually way off but Medal Of Honor Moving Group did everything they said they would. Going from NY to FL was worried about furniture getting damaged but they were extremely careful wrapping everything in protective blankets and handling everything. I'm so grateful to have found a great moving company finally considering this is my 5th time using a different company but I found a keeper this time!! Last but not least I chose them because they donate to our military members and veterans which I think is a bold and great thing to support our service members. Thanks again Medal Of Honor Moving Group.

Long-distance move from Tallahassee, FL to Draper, UT

Scam.

I signed up on a website and Medal of Honor Movers called me. They asked for a list of what I was moving. I provided. They gave me a quote of $3200. I said, “If you can do it for $3,000 I would say yes.” They said “Sure”. We set up my date to move. I gave them a 1/3 deposit.

I did not know they are a broker.

When the moving company came (a day late) they began looking and measuring and they gave me a A new quote of $4,700.

I called Medal of Honor movers. He laughed at me. He said, “Well I got you a truck there, your s$$t out of luck.” Our contract was to get you a truck. He laughed some more.

So I lost my deposit. I ended up renting a uhaul.

Do not trust these folks. Now I’m sure they will write a wonderful rebuttal to my review. It will make them sound saintly. Think of you across the country move and residing you could not trust these people and getting your own truck and college kids to load and unload.

Do not trust them.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4700

Official company response

The crew arrived on time to assist the customer with this move. After comparing the items list versus his physical items the cubic footage added up to be more than what the customer was quoted. Unfortunately, we couldn't come to a happy medium and the customer decided to go another route. We have reached out to the customer to offer him a portion of his deposit back and he was not interested. We put efforts towards resolving any and every issue that is possible but within reason. The truck and crew drove several hundred miles to assist the customer and incurred expenses. That is the reason why we are unable to refund the deposit in it's entirety.

Do NOT use this company.

We contracted with Medal of Honor but they farmed it out to another co. named Konami, who were rude & inept, without informing us. They managed to damage or destroy almost all of our furniture, and completely lost a big screen TV - never saw it again, and even ended out-of-pocket for a $75 TV box that protected it. Vanished between Ariz. and Fla. No apology and M of H blew us off. Use a reputable carrier who won’t contract it out to unprofessional jerks.

Moving from New York to New Jersey... No Better Movers

I’m very satisfied with how fast my experience was with Medal Of Honor Moving. From the time I received my quote from Paul to my actual moving day. I needed to move ASAP from my 1 bedroom apartment in NY to NJ and these guys we’re the very first to get back to me. I took a risk with using the first service that got back to me but I cannot thank these guys enough. I would recommend Medal Of Honor A THOUSAND TIMES OVER AND OVER AGAIN!
