Never again, worst experience ever, so many broken items

If you value your belongings and appreciate ethical behaviour, please do not use this company. I chose Kingsway because they were about the only ones I could find that were available for a quick move. Now I know why. I experienced the same issues as everyone else here: damaged furniture; dropped boxes with smashed contents, including some items that I will never be able to replace – they had the nerve to blame my packing (funny how there was nothing broken in the boxes that didn’t get dropped); late arrival, well past 8:00 PM in a building with seniors with no thought for the residents; submitted a claim for damages and was told to wait 8 to 10 weeks for a response, but they couldn’t be bothered to contact me so after 13 weeks, I had to send another email, only to find out they had no intention of reimbursing me for anything. They mentioned something about not buying the right insurance coverage but I couldn’t find anything about being offered insurance to cover carelessness. I will be moving again within a couple of years, so not only have they received this negative review from a past customer… they have also lost a future customer.

Good price makes a good experience!

Pickup was prompt and efficient. Delivery was later than expected, make sure you read the fine print when you get your contract. Some of the boxes were pretty beat up, but no items were broken. One item was missing, a cheap toaster (it came in a small box, could have been overlooked). The final price was on par with the initial quote, which is the most important thing!

PLEASE Do NOT Use This Company!!

This is absolutly the worst moving company in Canada.  We were promised professional movers and staff.  Yet when the day finally came for delivery, a person from "Labour Ready," shows up an hour early to help them.

We have moved four times for work.  The previous three times we used U-haul and didn't even suffer a broken coffee cup.  This time I wanted to treat my wife and we hired Kingsway.  We have over 80 pictures of damages, and an estimated $3,500 in repairs.  Thank you Kingsway!
We paid $1,800 for Kingsway to pack our belongings to ensure the best possible outcome.  When it came time to unpack some of th items  we saw had been simply thrown in a box without any wrapping.  Wooden table legs were taped together and thrown in with light shades.  They used packing tape to secure a number of screws and taped it to our entertainment table.  When they removed the tape upon delivery the finish came off with the tape; not even an apology.  They used an antique plate as a buffer for the toaster oven.  Some of our items were in old boxes from the previous move - they didn't open the boxes or ensure they were properly packed; they simply threw them on the truck.
I'm not at liberty to talk about the actual move do to a seperate settlement.  I will tell you that we received our items six weeks after pick up, and had to sleep on air matresses for five weeks.

During the unloading we watched in horror as the casual labour was given our 160lbs dining room table and told to take it up the stairs by himself.  Before I could get to him, he had banged the table on every step and was dragging the exposed wod on the floor.  At the same time, the driver and his permaent helper were sharing the wieght of our 40lbs Weber charcoal grill.
The entire process was a case of us paying a company to abuse us and disregard our belongings.
We've had mirrors shattered, boots kicked through boxes, the tweeter ripped out og a pair of high-end speakers, and the frame on our chesterfield broken.  The whole time the general manager is saying it isn't her problem.
My favourite part though, was when we told her that we were missing two boxes of electronics totallying $1,700.00 and a box of juice for our wine kit.  She basically calle dme a liar and said that these items were never documented on their inventory so they can not be missing.
At the end of the day, we paid Kingsway $6,800.00 for three months of axiety, stress and arguments. Our damages ae in excess of $3,500.00 and missing items in excess of $1,700.00.  Kingsway graciously offered us $108.36 which includeds a customer satisfaction bonus of $75.00.

PLEASE do not use this company!!  You WILL regret it.

Long-distance move from British Columbia to Alberta

Worst Experience.

My husband and I moved from BC to Alberta and after looking at reviews and requesting a lot of quotes we decided to go with Kingsway Van Lines. This was the worst and most costly mistake we've ever made. 1 - They did not send anyone to check out our apartment to see exactly how much we were moving, only an online form for us to "guesstimate" how much it would be, and ended up with a truck too small. We had to hire a 2nd truck to get the remainder. 2 - The movers were not Kingsway Van Lines, but a 3rd party company that was contracted out, for both pick up and delivery 3 - All the movers did was complain about how much stuff we had, on both pick up and delivery 4 - They mishandled a lot of our items, not caring about the bright orange fragile stickers all over the boxes. I watched one of them joke about how light a box of glasses was and THROW it onto a hand cart. The mishandling was on both sides of the move. On delivery a large number of boxes were crushed, had signs of being very clearly dropped or were delivered upside down. 5 - Every piece of furniture that was moved was broken. All of our bookshelves were chipped, scratched, split or completely destroyed. 6 - On delivery the movers refused to move any boxes past our garage. They said they weren't paid enough to move them into the house. This is straight from the Kingsway FAQ : "Will the movers place my furniture where I want it in my new home? When your goods are delivered, they will be placed in the appropriate rooms of the home so that they are readily available for the owner's use. " 7 - It cost almost double what the original quote given to us was. 8 - Their insurance policy is by weight only. It doesn't matter if the item cost you $1000 dollars, they're only giving you 60 cents per pound. 9 - We complained, filled out our insurance claim papers and the reply we got was "it'll take 4 to 6 weeks to process"   From beginning to end these movers have done nothing but cost us money and a lot of emotional stress. My only hope is that we can recoup at least part of the $6000 we had to pay for the worst service I've every experienced.

Renee we have your lost box worst movers ever.

We would not ever recommend this company. Extremely poor communications and miss leading shipping time line. Several boxes were soaking wet when we received them, no explanation. Lost one box (A33) clearly marked. Refused to compensate us in any way, not even an apology. Received an extra box and they have not been able to track down owner even though we sent them her name and photo of box. RENEE if you see this add contact Kingsway and have them get a hold of us. They know who we are they moved us from Calgary to Nanaimo picked up our stuff Nov. 20th and delivered it Dec. 17th Minus 2 star rating.

The moving guys did horrible job and broke many of my furniture!!

I have choose Kingsway Van Lines based on their online reviews and even tho they were not the cheapest. I was convinced they would take good care of my furniture. Kingsway.

While delivery to out of province was very fast, the overall experience with this company did not meet expectations.
They could not give me a delivery date until a couple of days before. This was okay since we were not working yet and could ensure we would be home.
At pick up the driver started telling us about all these costs that we were not aware of. I specifically asked the company about any extra charges before the start of it and she clarified. None of these charges were mentioned.
We had our whole house packed yet to make their job easier they used a really large wardrobe box to pack smaller boxes and items in, then charged us for the box. His happened quite a bit such as forcing us to wrap our couches, mattresses, box spring, mirrors and more. The cost to wrap some of these items were more then the items were worth.
This would have been okay if the items we paid to wrap made it in one piece. Mirrors that we had to pay to wrap were broken, our mattress was laid in water and soaked through and took weeks to dry. We had several other items broken. Some could be attributed to typical moving damage. Most to the carelessness of the staff. We have done large moves before with other companies. I believe our expectations are reasonable. This company was impossible to deal with and left us with many broken items and a bill that was triple my estimate.
Once we are throughout with our claims I will be happy to be done with Kingsway. I highly suggest going with another, more reliable and trustworthy company.

Never Again.

My husband and I have moved 23 times.  This was the first time we  used a moving company.  We had so many broken items, damaged, dirty boxes it was unbelievable. They must have tossed them into the truck and into storage.   And the cost was astronomical!  When I complained about the cost, we were told that the original quote (2000lbs) was a normal estimate and that actual weight is usually higher.  We had no large appliances, only a two bedroom (small) house.  How do I get proof that our weight was actually 6000lbs?  We will NEVER use or recommend this company to anyone.

Long-distance move from Ontario to Alberta

I would never book with this company again.

I booked this company after reading online reviews and getting a price quote. Our move was from Ontario to Edmonton.
The men that came to pick up arrived within the estimated time window and moved efficiently. So far so good. After packing all of my items onto their truck they asked me down to the truck to sign papers. At this point the movers told me that if they wanted, they could charge me an extra charge for distance from door to truck, but they would be willing to look the other way if I gave a good tip. This was confusing to me as they chose to park further from the door than I recommended. As a young women who is inexperienced with moving, I was flustered and unsure how to handle the situation. I tipped them and off they went with my stuff.
Then if it weren't for me, I'm quite sure I never would have heard from the company again. Time went by and my boyfriend was in our new city waiting for our things to arrive. The company made no efforts to contact me with necessary information or updates on the status of our things. I emailed the company after a few days to ask what the official weight on the scale was (to know what our final price would be for the move). The weight estimate given was extremely larger than our quote. I called the company to try and speak to my representative and could not reach her. Another person listened to my issue and agreed that the weight seemed high. They offered a rescale of the items when they reached Edmonton.
Then again, silence. Weeks after our things were picked up I called the company again asking for an update on our items. I was told they it looked like they would be arriving that weekend (2 weeks after pick up) and we would be called before delivery.
The weekend went by and no stuff, no call. I emailed my representative from the company and she said it would arrive the next Monday, and that I would be the first delivery. No explanation was given as to where our stuff was, or had been over the past couple of weeks. Monday was not a good time for me so I asked for the first appointment that Wednesday (almost ONE MONTH after the original pick up). In this time, I had to go buy new clothes for job interviews and new household items to use for daily life as all of our things were on a mysterious truck somewhere.
In this series of e-mails I asked what the new scale weight was of my items. There was a 500lb difference!! The new total still seemed way too heavy but I was so done with dealing with this company and I just wanted my things.
The morning my things were to arrive I got a call that the movers would be there between 11-1. This didn’t seem like the first appointment as promised, but it would do. 1 o'clock rolls around and no movers. The elevator booking that I had made was over. I called the movers and the dispatch said they were running behind and would be there at 4. I called my representative about the situation as I was livid and had reached my wits end. She sympathized with me and apologized and said she would speak to her manager to give me a discount for my troubles and call me the next day. My stuff finally came at 6 o'clock. The men (a large team of them) moved efficiently and were kind.
All of my things arrived. There were damages to a lamp, mattress memory foam pad, and a broken side table. The boxes were in pretty rough shape and it was obvious no care was given to the boxes labelled as fragile or 'this side up'. I did not attempt to claim these damages with the company as I did not think it was worthwhile and was just please to finally have my things.
The next day came, when my representative was supposed to call me, and I heard nothing. One more day went by and I heard nothing. I finally e-mailed to hear what the company had to say and they offered me a mere $75 discount. A measly 3% off of my bill.
In the end, I got my things and that's what I needed from the company. But that being said, I would NEVER book with this company again. The communication was terrible, they misweighed by items by 500lbs and attempted to charge me for it, the delivery was very late, and I was majorly inconvenienced by the time it took to get my things.

Pros:

-All items arrived
-The movers doing the frontline work were nice and efficient

Cons:
-Items were misweighed
-Items seemed to disappear for 3 weeks and I was never told where they were or why delivery took so long
-Inconvenienced by the length of time it took to deliver
-Terrible communication by the company--I had to constantly take the initiative to find out information
-Delivery was late
-Items did not appear to be treated with respect.

Shocking Review - stay away.

This is a shocking review. Im a cancer patient who needed to move from Toronto to London, Ont.  Moving is stressful and I had hoped for a reputable company  I couldn't have been more wrong.  While they did show up the actual move was almost thrown together by these men.  The leader brought his 16 year old son who I tipped $40 before I found out what was stolen. I have been using medicinal marijuana for my cancer and pain.  I had my medication neatly stored out of reach.  Somehow (??) it was packed on the truck with my personal purse. I didn't realize this until they left.  thinking it would be moved and unloaded at my new home. Somehow my purse contents were dumped in a box and all my medications completely gone. I called the company and explained the truth but they denied everything  no one returned calls and I'm now in the position to having to lay criminal charges. My cancer and treatments aren't geared for this kind of stress and it sickens me that Kingsway knows everything and simply lie and don't care? Im nearly 60 years old and I truly hope no one ever uses these disgusting people. I didn't ask for cancer and Kingsway makes me sicker.  .

Baby grand piano.

After months of searching and interviewing moving companies ,I decided on Kingsway van lines , David green after 55emails has earned my respect and admiration ,he never got tired of answering no matter what hour or day of the week it was . the movers arrived promptly ,only thing that threw me off ,was no uniform and no logo on truck. Well as they say, don't judge the book  by its cover, Harprit, Sean and Jason were the most  polite,  hardworking , careful and professional movers I ever met. I am a very fussy and critical person expecting 100%, well I got it . The piano was handled with utmost care and love ! everything was packed and wrapped so well , no damage what so ever occurred once the truck arrived ahead of schedule in Alberta. I choose Kingsway because of their conduct. A big thanks to David, Harprit ,Sean and Jason . unfortunatly I don't know who unpacked in Alberta ,but my daughter said ,the piano was set up properly and nothing was damaged . I spent more money than planned, but I was not realistic in what it would cost, Kingsway van lines are worth every penny I spent thank you for a smooth and painless moving experience ! they moved over 2500 pounds , excellent job and priced right .

No deal, but still went above and beyond.

Sadly I didn't get a chance to work with Kingsway, but it wasn't from a lack of trying.  Dave was awesome, and if he isn't the owner, he deserves a raise.  My circumstances caused me to go with a company with a lower quote.  However if it wasn't for budget reasons I would've gladly went with Kingsway.  Regardless of the lower quote. As I said Dave went above and beyond to help me, and my circumstances.  He answered every email with the utmost respect, and timing.  It actually saddens me that I am unable to be a Kingsway customer.  I will keep their phone number, and email close at hand though, and will recommend them to everyone I know who is moving. If you want professional, fast, curteous, customer service, Kingsway is the company to call.  Dave knew he might not get my business, but he was still there for me every step of the way.  Next time I need to move, and know in advance.  I'll start saving the minute I know, just so I can use Dave and his crew. Thank you for all your hard work Dave.  It truly does break my heart that my budget controls this move.  As I said up top, if you aren't the owner than  you deserve a raise.  If you are the owner, then wow!  All your future customers are truly lucky to have you on thier moving job.  I even tried to borrow the extra $50 needed to bring Kingsway on board.  :-(  Thank you again for everything you did to try and help me and my situation.
Love and Peace

Moving Experience.

From reading other reviews, I see using Kingsway as a hit or miss (probably like most other moving companies).  I had done my research on many companies prior to choosing one to move my family across country, and found that Kingsway had a lot of great reviews. The best advice I could give,  is to make sure your move will NOT be contracted out to another company. Kingsway contracted my move out to another company that I had researched, and did not use for many reasons. No one ever came to inspect our house (nor did they tell us it would be contracted out), so on moving day, the movers showed up with a truck that was half the size than was needed. Due to a time crunch, we had opted to have the movers pack our house, including our valuable items, and from that experience I would never recommend anyone use this service. Wine glasses were packed on their side at the bottom of a large box, which of course were shattered, along with other dishes. Our TV was damaged, a dresser did not get emptied and fell apart during the move, antique items got damaged and no longer work, our computer desk was cracked, the legs on our couches did not get removed which caused the mounting locations to be damaged and are now holding the couch up loose, picture frames were scratched, and other miscellaneous items were scratched/dented. While the movers on both ends of the move were nice enough, there was a lot of damage done that could have been avoided if items were handled more carefully or packed properly.

Moving Gamble Paid Off.

I was wary moving my belongings across Canada because so many moving companies seem unreliable in terms of customer reviews.  After calling a few companies of interest, I was impressed with the upfront character and honesty of the salesperson for Kingsway Van Lines.  I voiced my concerns about potentially lost or damaged items, which were acknowledged and reasonably assuaged.  I decided to take a gamble and am very happy to say that it paid off.
The movers for both the pick up and the drop off were very prompt, friendly, and professional.  They were conscientious about my items as well as not damaging my properties.  I must admit that some of the boxes were in bad shape but fortunately I had well packed all of my items so the damage was minimal.  Larger items were generally unscathed aside from a few scuff marks here and there.  Most importantly, nothing was lost within the move.
Kingsway Van Lines was very quick to address my needs (I shipped two days after initially booking them), and had my items delivered on the date that I had specified prior to shipping.  There were not any hidden costs and the charges I did incurr were reasonable. I would strongly suggest using this company.  Aside from the "rounded" boxes and the scuff marks (on items that were not wrapped/protected), my experience with this company was highly satisfactory.

Good.

Earlier this year my Mother passed away and left me some furniture that I had to move from Quebec to Ontario quickly.  The pieces were of sentimental value to me.  And I was concerned with the moving company I chose to do the move.  After some on-line research I decided to go with Kingsway.  My sales agent was David Green.  He was extremely professional and he made my experience with Kingsway go very smoothly.  The pick-up and delivery times were just as specified and the movers were professional.  There was a discrepancy on my invoice and when I pointed it out, it was rectified, and I was refunded within days of my notification. I had a good moving experience with Kingsway and I would recommend them.

Here is why this company has Good / Bad reviews.

You may look at the range of reviews here and wonder why some are glowing and others condemn the quality of service. The answer is that Kingsway merely acts as a broker and, as far as I can tell, does not take any responsibility for the movers they sub-contract the work to. I have worked in real estate for many years and,in the past, had clients who used Kingsway with positive results. It certainly seems like things have changed. I helped a client arrange a move from Toronto to Moncton last summer and Kingsway provided the worst service I have seen in over 25 years. The 3 movers who showed up in a no-name truck did so 3 hours beyond the 11 am - 1 pm promised pick up. When contacted about the delay, Kingsway at first said they would be there in 20 minutes and then an hour later said they couldn't contact the driver. This meant that they only had 2 hours before the elevator had to go off service at 6 pm. They rushed the move, damaged walls and furniture and then claimed it was all there in the first place. When delivered, furniture that was less than 6 months old was broken, had split seams and was chipped. The answer from Kingsway was that none of this was their responsibility but they offered a laughable $75 as compensation.
So if you contract this company to move your goods be aware that you may get the conscientious sub-contractor who takes care of your things but you may also get the "we don't care" types who will treat your furniture like items being taken to the trash. Kingsway will act so apologetic and tell you to file a claim that they will then ignore until you call to follow up on. My advise, do you want the risk of ending up with torn, crushed, chipped and broken items when they arrive at your new home? Then don't use Kingsway.
And one last tip, if you use them they will give you an itemized list of everything they have loaded. They will do this at the end when they are running out the door and it will describe everything as "damaged". That is how honest they are. .

Moving.

STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND - Labour was great at both ends. Picked up on Friday 1 bedroom condo - was suppose to be delivered next day.  Actual delivery date six days later.  We were left without cloths, furniture, belongings.  When we called to find out where our truck was on Saturday we were told the truck broke down and our goods would be delivered the following Thursday and they would see what they could do to compensate us.  When we called on Monday to speak to the Operations Manger to say this was unacceptable they said they would see what they could do and call us back - they did not - when we tried to contact office again they would not take our calls. Price paid was more than double what was quoted. and there was no compensation for the six day delay.  Very poor customer service - when we asked to speak to someone else in the office (ie: owner) were told he is never in the office!.  When the delivery was finally made they had another delivery to a city close to ours.  From this we surmised the truck probably did not break down they just did not want to delivery our goods, the next day after pick up as promised, then go back to Toronto and have to delivery to a city close to ours five days later.  This would have been fine with us if they had just communicated this from the beginning.  We would have packed a change of cloths separately and brought them with us - instead we were stuck with the cloths we had on our backs until our goods were delivered. Don't be confused  when the truck shows up with Troy moving on the side, we had a quote from Troy as well and could not understand why they showed up - apparently Kingsway bought Troy trucks. Would never recommend Kingsway to ANYONE period.

Save yourself a hastle.

Quote was double upon arrival. Took 2 weeks to deliver. Horrible customer service. .tore up the lawn and trees trying to put an 18 wheeler where it obviously wouldn't fit. We're yelled at by the movers who were more concerned with their broken light which would cost no more then a dollar to replace. Stay away! The start of the process was great. The men who picked up the stuff we're very nice and efficient and used an appropriate sized truck.the woman Tracy at reception was also great. I went with this company as they had the best rate. 2 weeks after when it came to delivery things took a in for the worst. The quote changed by double and since the truck the size of a small business could not park close enough to the storage unit we were using we were then charged more money. Then men were rude and I have yet to experience this kind of service in my life!

Good Customer Relations.

This is a great company to deal with.  I had a few issues with the move and had to cross my fingers that these people would be fair and reasonable.  (Issues involved a delay, partly due to a misunderstanding on my part plus the timing of the move, which took place over the Christmas holidays, and an item that was accidentally damaged by the local crew delivering my stuff).  Both Liz McLean and Maya Bloom were extremely responsive and have a lot of integrity -- this is the most important thing to me in working with any business.  I would say that the service is just as good as any other mover out there, but most importantly, these are very good people who care about their customers and will treat you well.  For this reason I give them 5 stars.

Kingsway van lines moving company.

This is the worst experience I have ever had. kingsway van lines quoted my move at 1800 dollars and when the move was over the grand total was 4700 dollars. I did not find out about the price hike until they had my belongings and would not relinquish them until I paid. It was really extortion and they should be shut down. I was missing 15 items and 13 were damaged. They also will only pick up and deliver on their schedule and will charge you for extra days if you can accommodate that schedule. Their customer service is as pathetic as their work and they should be shut down. I basically paid them to vandalize my belongings and steal whatever they felt like. don't expect anything when you try to claim your lost or damaged items either, they hide behind the small print in their contracts. This company is disgusting  and incompetent. the fact that these crooks can extort people like this in Canada is rediculous. Please consider your options before dealing with these thieving, incompetent, rude and disgusting people. this company needs to be shut down!

These guys suck !!

I have just been reading some of the other reviews and have to agree with them that this is the worst moving company that I have ever had the displeasure to deal with. They did not show up when they said they were going to be there and I had to keep phoning them to find out when they were coming. We had a small office move that needed to be done before month end and the only way it actually happened was through my persistence to light a fire under their [EDIT]! Their Senior Operations Manager in Ontario was a complete incompetent to deal with and would not return any of my calls. The best part was when the movers/morons took two additional office chairs with them on there way out the door that did not belong to us. They were sitting out in the entry way of the office complex that they had to walk through to get outside. When I inquired with their Senior Operations Manager about there return to the building owner, she replied that it would cost $650 to have them sent back!! Unbelievable!! Do yourself a favor and stay away from these idiots.

Long-distance move from Nova Scotia to British Columbia

Rates are reasonable.

I was really impressed with the level of service I received from Liz she actually took the time to help out and explain everything. My husband was already in BC and myself and my 3 kids were left to deal with the move on our own.
She was great to deal with and answered all of our emails and questions (both me and my husband were emailing her..lol). She was patient and great to deal with - she herself deserves a 5 START.
As for the move iteslf, everything went ok - no major delays or damages, some very minor stuff. The staff were great and the price at the end was reasonable.

CROOKS-SHOULD BE IN JAIL also own the following CAVEAT!

Please warm the public of this horrific moving company, Troy Transportation, also own Atlanta Van Lines, Kingsway Van Lines, Armour Van Lines, Trilliums Moving and Storage ..They overcharge the clients for weight, returns their belongings smashed or destroyed. Change the name of the business only to avoid any consequences. Take no accountability and make a living at conducting business this way. They do not return calls to the BBB. Go to Troy Transportation Moving and Storage to read their reviews. They delivered our belongings with close to $20,000 in damages not to mention the overweight price they charged us and provided no proof of weight. They are not part of the Canadian Association of Movers! They should be in jail!!

Long-distance move from Ontario to Saskatchewan

No Stress.

I must start by saying that the last thing I had to worry about was actually payment!! Great professional service provided by David and the office and all was as per the timings promised. The guys who came to pack were helpful and prepared, I also moved my vehicle thru them and the vehicle arrived in perfect conditioned as loaded. I was very satisfied with the weekend delivery and the fact that I gave them the address 4 hours before delivery and all went off very well.
