First, this was not an everyday move, this was a Permanent Change of Station (PCS). With that comes certain obligations on the part of the mover and JK failed every part. Communication was impossible, there seemed to be no consistancy or proper person to deal with, their site says you are provided with a "move coordinator", we sure weren't. many messages had to be relayed to JK through their contracted estimator and still it fell on deaf ears.
From their own site "Trained at our very own facilities, our full-time crews will treat your property and your belongings as if they were there own. Critical areas of the home will be prepped before the move to minimize damage, and every item will be carefully wrapped and placed and appropriately boxed for maximum protection." The packers were pleasant enough, but they slammed books in with unwrapped antique silver items, they left items in drawers, desk, file cabinets, plastic boxes and wherever else they could to get done quicker. Furniture was not wrapped and protected. The pickup driver was angry about their job when he arrived. He had to do a great deal of packing, but there was a lack of packing materials.
When the goods arrived at our new home the delivery guys pulled off a number of broken items and they said with some just glue it. Not acceptable. This was said about an antique harpsichord and the side was completely broken off, breaking the soundboard.
Beds are supposed to be set up as well. However, despite my disability which causes severe back pain, I was forced to set up the beds. The delivery guys stood and watched as I did it. I have been unable to find papers and things like my car title (I know I should have secured that myself) because nothing is where it should be. Papers from file folders and off my desk have turned up with items from the shed and my daughter's room. Apparently wherever they could stuff them to use as wrapping and packing materials.
Several items were noted as damaged on delivery and we were told someone would contact us soon about repair or settlement, nothing happened. We filed a claim on 7-17-2011 which included our dining table leg broken completely off, dining chairs with legs broken off, a lamp made from stone from Mt Fuji (they can no longer take stone from the mountain to make items or for repairing items) and nothing. I called a month after the appraiser came out and got an email that by contract they have 60 days to make a settlement offer, but that one would be forthcoming in a week. Nothing. Now I am willing to bet that any offer will be a low-ball one and this will drag on for months if not years in resolving.
If you care anything about your items don't use this company. Supposedly people on PCS are better protected than the average customer, so if they would do these things to us guess how they would treat anyone else. Money can never replace or properly repair my items, so beware of JK Moving.
While the moving service was professional, the packing service was quite lackluster.
They sent over two inexperienced and untrained packers who couldn't speak English and they were accompanied by an English-speaking supervisor who was mostly absent. About two hours into the project the supervisor made a whistle stop by my place and said they should finish by 2:00 or 3:00 O'clock. They finished at 6:00. Furthermore, the boxes were packed very inefficiently, which ran up the box count. (As an example, when I unpacked I found a single shot glass wrapped with an entire huge sheet of mover's wrapping paper.) Since JK Moving charges by the hour and the box count, the charges far exceeded the estimate. I feel as though I bankrolled a training class for JK Moving's packers.
A good indicator of a business establishment's commitment to their business is their response when matters don't go well. I am sorry to say that JK Moving failed miserably in this regard. Several attempts that I made to reach the decision makers at JK Moving went completely ignored, forcing me to file a dispute through my credit card company. JK Moving, at a loss for an argument, resorted to lying to my credit card company and telling them that I increased the scope of the work. I recommend dodging this cagey outfit in favor of a more reputable business.
After interviewing 4 moving companies to relocate my family from Virginia to South Carolina, we settled on JKMOVING for several reasons. First, the gentleman who came for the estimate was very personal, professional, and detailed. Second, the price was reasonable. Next, they could deliver our belongings fast. Finally, Louis said that they would be able to pack and load without us being present, when most companies would not. This was very important to us, because we have no family in the area to help, so I was told by Louis that I could provide them with a key, so they could take care of it for us, even though it was not a typical or ideal situation. He said if it meant getting the sale, they would make it work, and those were his exact words. On the day of the move, December 26, our moving team arrived 45 minutes late. I walked them through the house and had them make sure everything was good to go to get packed. They said that they would not be able to pack some things that I had left there like cleaning products, oils, etc., and I told them to leave it for the cleaning company. I gave them a key to the house, as discussed with Louis, and Ray, the mover, was very surprised. He had not been informed of our agreement, but went ahead with the packing. I told him you call me if he needed anything and told him my husband would be back the next day. We left for South Carolina The next morning, my husband boarded a plane for Virginia, and he went back to the house. He was given some liquids and some batteries to take that could not be packed, and he got in the car and drove to South Carolina again in our other car after being told he was no longer needed. Later that day, I received a call from Ray letting me know that they were unable to get our queen bed frame down the stairs and that they had already damaged the walls. While on the phone, one of the other movers was able to get it down. I asked Ray to please send a picture of the damage, which he did. He sent 3 from his cell phone. He said it wasn't that bad and asked me to not file a claim if possible, because he would have to personally pay for the damage. On Thursday December 29, our items were delivered. We went through the bingo sheet, and everything that was loaded was here. There were two boxes of nonperishable foods that they asked if they could not unpack and a box with a Christmas tree as well, so I said it would be no problem if they left those items boxed. I went upstairs when they said they were finished to find that the queen bed wasn't put together, mirror wasn't put back on the dresser, and nursery dresser wasn't finished being put together, so I asked them to finish that, snd they did. While they were doing that, I found another box that they had put in a closet, so I started to unpack it myself. Ray thoughtthe box was empty and threw it in the yard with my things still in it. It was obvious that they were getting tired, understandably, and we're rushing to get out of there. I was given forms to sign and was told that they were to confirm that everything from the bingo sheet was present. I signed, tipped them each $20, and they left. After I fed my baby, I went to the formal living area to find 6 more boxes not unpacked or discarded. We paid for a full unpack, and I was guaranteed by Louis that all of the boxes and packing materials would be removed, which was not the case. I also found a nightstand with a knob missing and with a bingo sticker strategically placed on an area with a big chunk of wood missing. They also left our patio furniture in the driveway. I decided that I wasn't going to make a big deal about it, because the guys were really nice and polite, and I felt bad that they had done so much hard work for us, even though it's a service we paid for. I have a heart for people. The next thing I did was attempt to wash clothes in my previously perfectly fine, 2 year old washer, but water gushed out the door, because it was damaged. I contacted JK, and they are supposidly sending a check for the repair. I made sure to mention that I hoped that this would not reflect negatively on Ray or the other movers. The next day, I realized that several items from our house in Virginia were not here. I contacted my realtor, who confirmed that two of the rooms in our house had not been packed or moved. Obviously, they wouldn't be on the bingo sheet, because they were ignored. Several garage items were also left. The items were wall pictures, rugs, hard hats, glasses, laundry, toilet paper holders, and similar items, which value about $400 to $500. The realtor also told me that the house was left a mess with McDonald's cups, moveing tape all over the floors, and light bulbs everywhere. Next, my cleaning company called to inform me that our hardwood floors had an area of damage. I called JKMOVING and expressed my concerns, and I was told someone would call me back. I received a call from Patricia and Mr. Zell, who had me on speaker phone. Instead of an apology, an offer to remedy my concerns, I was told that it is against the law for movers to be at my house without someone being there snd that I was wrong for allowing them to be there and for giving them a key. I was told that Louis had worked there for 20 years and that he says he never agreed to any of our arrangements. I was told that they may fire Ray for believing me. I was spoken to very rudely and was basically scolded and called a liar. I tried to contact Lous personally, but he will not answer or return my calls. If this is against the law, then why did they do it? I was present before they packed and explained the plan prior to it taking place. They had the opportunity right there to not do it. They could have called the office and confirmed that it was ok for us not to be there, but they didn't. Nobody communicated within the company, and it's not my fault. It is my fault for trusting Louis, who I guess just wanted the sale. I should have had that part in writing, but unfortunately, I didn't. I learned a great lesson from this I guess, but it still is not right! I pleaded with Mr. Zell to please just be a human being and help me ship it all here, but he won't hear it. He also said that despite the pictures sent from Ray's phone, that I can't prove any of the damages. He said also that I should have read my contact. What contract? No one can answer that question either. All I have prior to the move is an estimate with basic information, confirmation emails from Shirley with moving tips, and Louis'sword. Clearly, somebody messed up at my expense.
Terrible service. I was initially impressed by the sales person pitch, however when the movers came the lead mover John was disrespectful, rude and had a real problem dealing with a woman trying to tell him what needed to be done, real ego problem. He couldn’t follow the simplest instructions and ended up walking off the job. I have moved at least 20 times and this was by far the worst moving company that I’ve ever dealt with.
I've moved a lot. I've seen some good moves and some bad. JK was hands down the worst. They will break your things, even fragile items you have to pay extra to have hand crated by them, and they will not reimburse you to fix or replace anything. They showed up late, with less people than the contract stipulated, broke thousands of dollars worth of goods. After rude service staff will argue and lie about what happened, they had the audacity to send a $100 check and claim that was what they felt was fair compensation. Pathetic. I will advise everyone I ever come across who is moving to never, ever use JK moving.
JK Moving is the greatest. They arrived at the time they said, worked hard while there, adapted smoothly to a couple of my last-minute requests, were careful with my stuff, and upfront about costs and scheduling. I got a call from JK's admin while the crew was at my home, asking if things were satisfactory -- they were. They will store my stuff till I find my next home. There was a minor glitch about some of the smaller costs, but they quickly adjusted that (otherwise they'd be perfect, and we know no one is). Another reason I chose JK, besides their great ratings in Washington Consumer Checkbook, is that they contribute in a variety of ways to their local communities. I value this highly.
My experience started back in October going out getting Bids on different moving companies. From the time the salesman came and introduced himself, and we chose JK. From the time the crew came to pack us up, till the crews brought our belongings to our new home, everything was always on point, GREAT communications between moving team and office,Professional Polite, Courteous, Respectful, and best of all, ON TIME. I would recommend them to all my family and friends, GREAT JOB JK MOVING SERVICES, I see where all the NICE ACCOLADES FROM, MBW 12-15-2018.
Everything was going well until AFTER our final payment was made, (shocker).
When the driver/truck pulled up and the driver had a problem opening the door to where our belongings where because the truck was packed so full with 2 other families belongings, we knew this couldn't be good.
We were correct, two of our dining room chairs had been crushed and were damaged, the backs had cracked and the wood was chipped.
JK was fast in getting back to us and telling us where to find the claim forms and telling us how sorry they were.
Long story short, a $24 check was sent to us for their mistake stating we did not sign up for the coverage needed to protect our furniture in full.
What did we pay this huge moving fee for??
It's a shame because we trusted this company with our valued possessions.
I hired JK to move my residence from Montgomery County to Northern Frederick county. I downsized from a 4500 SF house to a 1600 SF house. Even after months of me de-cluttering, donating and packing, I still had a lot of stuff to deal with. JK showed up on time, with 6 men and 2 trucks. They handled it all!! Every member of the team was friendly and helpful - and they were having fun!! Not once did I see any of them distracted by their phone or social media -- they worked!! No item was too small, no request too large. They handled everything quickly and efficiently. Excellent packing - nothing was broken, they took extra care to protect everything. It was a very long day and they really came through for me! I hope to never move again, but if I do, I'll hire JK Moving again!
We hired JK Movers to move the contents of a one bedroom apartment in Arlington to our home in Chantilly. They did a fantastic job. Every aspect of the move was well-executed. They arrived on time, dealt with an unexpected delay in access to the loading dock smoothly, packed everything quickly.. the thing I was most impressed with was how securely they wrapped furniture up. Heavily bundled in blankets wrapped in moving tape, the furniture was super-protected. There was simply no way it could be scratched or otherwise damaged. The wrapping also prevented the usually inevitable dents and scratches on the walls of our house.
Kudos to Miguel, Juan Carlos and Carlos for an excellent experience.
JK’s moving crew was punctual, professional, courteous, and helpful. The issue was their sales person, Albert, who vastly underestimated the number of man hours needed to pack. The result? The move was WAY over what was quoted. Even the JK moving crew stated that JK should have provided packers to pack prior to moving day. I requested this and/or a fourth person on the crew and Albert dismissed my concerns prior to the move and assured me this wasn’t necessary. Even the day after the move when I readdressed this concern based upon how many hours over the estimate the guys had to work, Albert STILL dismissed my concern. Additionally, prior to the move Albert and Renee, (JK’s sales coordinator), were advised that the items were being moved into a home that was being renovated. JK provides a 10 day period to unpack and inspect. When I requested additional time to unpack and inspect I was advised no additional time would be given. Lesson learned: Use Town and Country Movers in Maryland. While their quote was higher, they were clear that a four crew team would be needed and the cost per hour is way lower than JK. My next move out of another home will not be JK.
JK Moving Services moved us from our 2-story colonial house in Virginia to Pennsylvania. It took two trucks that had to deliver our belongings to our new home located a mile from the highway over a gravel country farm lane, and nothing was damaged. Packers Sylvia No. 1 and Sylvia No. 2 packed our things wonderfully. Then the moving team headed by Al, Kareem, and five others on the loading end and Justin, Victor, and four others on the delivery end were careful and courteous. Everything was wrapped wonderfully, and they took great care in protecting the walls and floors of both houses. We definitely recommend JK Moving.
I scheduled a move on Oct. 8, 2020 and paid the $200 deposit and was never told the deposit was non-refundable. I cancelled the move on Oct. 9, 2020. I contacted the rep, Phil Philbin, on Oct. 9, 13, and 16 to request a refund. He never responded to my calls, texts, or email. Called the company,(703)260-4282, on Oct. 19, where another rep hung up on me. Totally unprofessional. Use Great Nation Moving for your next move.
JK Moving Services additional charges and broken items
Don't use JK Moving Services unless you don't care about house hold items and additional charges. I saw the way JK movers treated Fragile items, many of the Fragile boxes were crushed with broken glass inside. If that was not enough there driver said he could not get into housing complex, a week later another moving company came in with 18 wheeler and had no problem. They charged us an extrac $674 dollars for a Shuttle to the house. I believe this helped with the damaging the items. Don't use them.
Same issues with sales representatives under establishing cost.
Eric gave me an estimate over the phone with pictures and a list of furniture we were going to take.
Feeling we needed a closer estimate, we invited Eric to meet at our house.
After showing Eric the first floor, Eric stated that we had gone over the original estimate and had passed to another category and we could take everything.
We were in the basement and I asked Eric if these two large pieces of furniture that we had not planned to move could be moved at no additional cost.
He said we could at no additional cost.
We received the same shocker that many others have. Furniture is on the truck and the Driver says we have got to go weigh the truck.
The office calls with a $700.00 additional we owe and the truck would not start unloading until we
paid in full.
Gotcha you!
The moving crew did a great job.
JK officials, I have read your responses, no need to respond.
On September 13, 2021, JK Moving Company moved our belongings less than 10 miles to another house. We have made many, many moves over the years and JK Movers is the only company we’ve worked with who would not make right any damage or loss incurred during the move. We’ve never bought extra insurance to cover our goods, including this move. The movers damaged our refrigerator so that it no longer works and wouldn’t pay to have it fixed or give any money towards replacement.
I would never recommend this company to anyone. I plan to tell this to anyone I know who is contemplating a move.
JK moving company was great. They moved our family from Texas to Louisiana. Dominick Simpson and his son Dom Jr. were awesome. They made the move easy and wouldn’t have wanted any other team. If you are moving soon, request them, you won’t regret it. They are the true moving professionals. Thank you for easing a stressful time and making it easy. Call JK, you won’t regret it.
The absolute worst experience I've had with any move.
The packing crew was pleasant and arrived on time. However, they didn't bring enough people to finish by the quoted deadline, forgot about a bathroom even after I reminded them, and didn't number several boxes, which came back to haunt me. They also tore the back off my bookshelf, instead of the simpler and less destructive option of wrapping it up as-is.
My delivery was delayed by 4 days after the scheduled window, which I understand happens. What I don't understand is them taking over a month and three phone calls to figure out I didn't owe them money because of the $125-per-day-late discount.
I can't fault the unpacking crew; they were pleasant, efficient, and pointed out damage on items as soon as they were unloaded.
As I unpacked & organized over the next few weeks, I found more and more items were mishandled, bent, cracked, and flat-out broken. After going back and forth with their claims department and providing ample documentation including HD video, over half of my reimbursement was denied for "not present" (unnumbered therefore it doesn't exist), "no damage observed", and "excessive use" when they were undamaged beforehand.
They also gave me German roaches; I had several emerge from newly-opened boxes when I didn't have them at my old place, along with seeing one crawl out from underneath framed artwork when I turned it over.
JK Moving is shoddy, drag their feet, and only care about getting paid on delivery so they can ignore you. They boast about full value protection and then refuse to honor it. I'm baffled as to how they haven't collapsed under the weight of their collective greed and carelessness.
If I could give negative stars, I would. If I could go back in time and go with anyone else or throw everything in a large moving truck myself, I would. I'll continue to be honest about this experience with friends, family, and anyone who asks me what moving company I had the misfortune of dealing with.
Quotes are predatory and misleading! Steer clear!!
I was quoted $4,955 for a move from a 2 bedroom apartment. They do a good job moving stuff and don’t break anything, but my final total came out to $6,414, which is nearly $1,500 / 30% higher than the quote I received!! I realize that it is an estimate, but to be off by 30% is totally unacceptable. On top of this, my fiancée and I spent 2 hours packing our hanging clothes for the movers and we still got charged nearly $1,500. If I knew that my total was going to be $6,414, I never would have gone with this company. This is borderline predatory. Steer clear of this company unless you want to pay significantly more than they quote you.
We hired JK to move our daughter's apartment contents from Miami to Philadelphia. Her furniture was badly damaged, but we were compensated nothing despite having purchased supplemental insurance. They did not honor their contract and--what's more--they falsified a document claiming "prior damage". We're disputing the payments with our credit card company, but I wish we never contacted this company in the first place. They're the worst.
We had an amazing experience with JK. All of our things were wrapped with extreme care, and everything arrived in perfect condition. The crew was so helpful, even suggesting where I place things in the home. They were so respectful and and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. They made the entire experience enjoyable. We had them pack our entire home.
From the estimate through Grant, overall admin with Mariana and pick-up/delivery with Jonathan everything was seamless. I totally advocate for live onsite estimation, video est were 10+% higher. Mariana kept us updated with regular check ins and Jonathan coordinated the pack out and delivery with ‘no extra parts’, everything back to its original state! Strongly recommend JK for your long haul moving needs!
JK Moving Services was recommended by a local mover who was not licensed for our destination. They arrived on time, were very thorough with the paperwork using an iPad. Everything that needed it was wrapped and padded appropriately and loaded within an hour. The two employees had a great, helpful attitude considering the destination home was three levels and a basement. We were very pleased with the price and the service and would definitely use them again.
We had an excellent experience using JK Moving for our move from CT to WA. The driver of our truck(leader of the crew) was very professional, courteous and respectful and he worked very, very hard to ensure that our belongings were handled with care. Our belongings arrived exactly when expected and without any damage whatsoever. Given the distance that our belongings had to travel, we are thrilled with the results. We can wholeheartedly recommend JK Moving and we would use them again in a heartbeat should the need arise. We are so glad that we found them!
They broke my furniture and didn’t know how to put things back together again at the new place. I had to monitor everything & remind them several times over about unfinished things like putting my dining room table back together. They were nice folks but I’m very disappointed and now I have furniture repairs to deal with. Boxes that had been marked fragile were upside down and had piles of boxes on top that crushed things. And $600 over their estimate despite my not needing hanging clothes boxes and they only packed 3 small boxes themselves. $2600 total for a 2 bedroom. Unreasonable
