Long-distance move from New Jersey to Indiana

Broke lots of my belongings and were rude about it!

I’m not quite sure where to start with this review. The short version is as follows. My wife and I paid IVL
over $7,000 to move us from New Jersey to Indiana. We were told that the movers would wait to deliver
our items to the destination until we arrived a few days later. The next day, I received a call telling me
that they were going to deliver the items the following day, with or without us.
Since we were not present for the delivery, the movers were downright careless with our items. Many
hard plastic boxes were broken, and virtually all of the cardboard boxes ended up in terrible shape.
Several pieces of furniture were also destroyed.
Furthermore, the movers ignored our request to spread the items across the storage unit so that they
would be easier to access. We had arranged for a unit that was roughly twice the size that we needed in
order to make this task easier. In spite of this, the movers stacked our items haphazardly on top of each
other, with furniture piled on top of fragile items, all the while leaving half of the floor space unused.
We had to hire local movers just to rearrange our items in such a way that we could access them. Those
movers said that the way that the IVL movers had arranged our items was “scary” and felt that their
behavior was downright dangerous.
When I voiced my displeasure to the company, I was initially ignored. Once I was finally spoken to, the
manager attempted to intimidate me into accepting an appallingly small sum of “hush money.” He
assured me that their lawyers would bully us into either accepting a pitifully small settlement (and
signing an agreement preventing us from telling anyone about our horrifying experience) or take them
to court, which he assured me would be stacked against us.
My conscience prevented me from taking the deal. I felt obligated to let others know about our
horrendous experience, in the hope that future customers will be able to avoid this misery. This is not a
company that can be trusted to handle your belongings, and it is not a company with enough integrity to
fix their mistakes. Do not, under any circumstances, entrust your possessions to them.

Moving to florida.

I chose IVL based on their reviews and my gut instinct. My sales rep Alex was great! He got everything set up for me last minute. The move itself was small, but it's all I got so I wanted to choose a reputable mover. They sent 3 guys to move my 2 bedroom apartment and packed everything for me. The job got done in about 5 hours and delivered to my door in FL within a couple of days. I've never worked with a mover, but my experience with IVL was great and I'd use them again. There's a lot of garbage on the internet so be careful with who you work with.

Quality move.

My move was from Houston, Texas to Middlesex, New Jersey. It consisted of a 2 bedroom apartment, but we self-packed everything. They sent a 3 person team who loaded within about 4 hours. The guys worked hard and did a great job. I got my delivery about a week later and the same team was there to off-load. We got everything with no damage. I also didn't have to pay more than the quote which was great. Shout out to Brian my sales rep.

Do Not Use This Bait and Switch Company!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY USE A BAIT AND SWITCH TACTIC! I booked my move with Justin a customer service rep for International van lines moving/trucking and I spoke with him four times. I listed individually every box, piece of furniture and wall art that I need moved. He assured me that he had recorded everything. He said the movers would wrap my tv and mirrors. He quoted me a price of 2883.31. He promised me that the quote he gave would not change at a later date.Me: The day before my scheduled pick up from this company I spoke with another representative Rubina who reviewed my list again. she said yes they would wrap the tvs and the mirrors and she said the lamps did not have to be boxed up. she told me my quoted price had not changed.Me: At approximately 6:00 pm the night before my move I got a new phone call from a lady Elisa that said she was a manager. She informed me that my quote was wrong and that it would increase by over 950 dollars. I asked her numerous times for her name which she refused to give me. she kept cutting me off and would not allow me to finish a sentence. she told me "nothing in this world is for free ma'am". she was the rudest customer service manager that I have ever spoken with. she told me I should have looked at my contract better. I trusted the representative justin that he had given me an accurate quote because I told him about every single item and we agreed on no more than 15 boxes. This is horribly stressful to me and I do not understand why two of their representatives told me everything was ok and this manager refuses to honor justins oral contract and his promises to me. I would have moved with a different company if I had been given the quote that this manager is giving me. I am scheduled to move tomorrow. I am closing on my house which I have to sell because I lost my job. I am moving across country to virginia.Me: Job No: M4040407 I have asked elisa to allow me to speak to the manager above her or the owner of the company. she refuses to allow me to speak with anyone else. I believe my original quote of $2,883.31 should be honored for tomorrows move. what kind of company treats its customers like this the day before a move. I ended up having to sell my brand new 3 piece sectional sofa and new stainless steel refrigerator in less than 24 hours, which of course meant I basically gave my stuff away. at the time I booked with Justin, he told me that when I called with a delivery address, my stuff would arrive in seven days. Now that I am trying to schedule delivery, the company is telling me up to 21 days of wait which will result in a second month of storage charge which is at least $300 a month. I have tried to get someone higher up to contact me about this bait and switch situation. I have been contacted by no one from this company. desiree.

Long-distance move from Brooklyn, NY to Fort Worth, TX

Awful!

Weeks ago, I arranged for a move to Fort Worth, Texas from my home in Brooklyn, NY with International Van Lines. I asked then for one, extra stop to my storage unit (less than a mile away) to be included with this Texas move. After not hearing from anyone about the final dates of this move, I emailed my account manager. I was told that my quote ($9K+) was inaccurate and that there was no record of my move to Texas.

TWO DAYS before my move, I was told that my $9+K fee would only include a move from my Brooklyn, NY home to my Brooklyn, NY storage unit, with the account manager insinuating that I signed the paperwork incorrectly and simply did not understand what I was doing. It is inconceivable that an in-city move, less than one mile, for a 3-bedroom apartment in NYC would cost almost 10K. And why would I work with someone from Florida for that? And yet, this is what the associate insisted.

At such a stressful time in my life, I cannot begin to convey my frustration and disappointment with this company. Hours later, the associate contacted me to tell me that the move would be 15K and that it would take two days to pack my things (I live in the equivalent of a 3-bedroom NYC apartment at 1000 sq ft). Again, the associate acted like I just didn't understand how movers work. Another manager called me and told me that she had no phone records of me ever mentioning Texas-- meanwhile, I have MULTIPLE EMAILS.

I hired a new company. Thank goodness. I hope no one else ever wastes their time with these rude, unprofessional people.

Moving.

I hired IVL for a local move from Miami to Greenacres, FL. Overall, the experience went well. I have no complaints minus a small ding in my dresser, but they fixed it. The reason I'm leaving 5 stars is that they did an excellent job and resolved my minor issue quickly.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Los Angeles, CA

Moving.

My move to Los Angeles went well. I've used IVL before and decided to give them a second chance because my first experience was excellent. I dealt with Brian, Alex, and Lisa, who did a great job staying on top of things. The guys showed up on time and did what they needed to do. The move took about a week from start to finish, and I got everything with no damage. I would work with IVL again if needed.

Long-distance move from Chapel Hill, NC to Chicago, IL

Nightmare.

I hired IVL to do a long-distance move for a small 1BR apartment weeks in advance. Everything about the experience was a nightmare. I was lied to from the beginning about everything-how the move would be handled to the price. I was overcharged and the inventory was wrong-they listed items I didn't even own and I was charged for their move. Almost every single item not in a box was severely damaged or broken. When it came to delivery, they lied to me about the time and I had to miss 2 days of work-at one point the delivery driver just turned his phone off and I heard nothing from the company for 12 hours-I couldn't get in touch with anybody. When the delivery drivers did show up, they were aggressive and screaming (both at me and at each other), they threw my furniture around, taunted me and were generally rude and scary. They would not re-assemble any of my furniture correctly. A woman alone should not feel safe hiring this company ever. I was not reimbursed for damage done to my apartment. It was extremely difficult to get in touch with the company responsible and no one every really apologized for the numerous errors of the company or the danger I was put in by their employees. I would not recommend hiring this company for any reason. Employees were rude and unprofessional. For your safety, absolutely do not hire this company.

Moving.

I was in charge of finding a moving company for my parents. They moved a 2 bedroom condo from Florida to Los Angeles, and we hired International Van Lines. I did a lot of research on moving companies. My parents are both seniors living on a budget, so I had no room for error. With so many horror stories on the internet, it's hard to weed through what's real and not true. One thing I know is all moving companies have some bad reviews here and there which I think is just part of the business. IVL maintains an excellent reputation, and my sales rep Alex was accommodating. He wasn't pushy like the other companies that called and gave me a fair price. The guys did a great job, and most importantly, there was no damage or additional charges my parent had to pay. I would highly recommend them.   .

Moving.

I've worked with a couple of movers in the past. I had some good and bad experiences. I needed to find a mover for my parent who moved their 3 bedrooms home from Chicago to Houston. I went with IVL based on their reviews, and the rep (Justin) I dealt with was straight forward and honest about the moving process. The move went well minus a couple of small scratches on furniture, but IVL dealt with it, and all ended up well. I was pleased with their professionalism and would work with them again if needed.

IVL did my out of state move to CO. It was for a four-bedroom house which also included a car and baby grand piano. My sales rep Justin, was great! He sent a rep to do an on-site survey and spent a lot of time with me. I was very nervous about hiring a mover considering everything I read online. The main reason I went with IVL was based on their reviews and my comfort level with Justin. The movers did their job great and packed everything to perfection. They were also very punctual on both ends. I got everything with no damages which I was pleased about. I also didn't have any hidden charges or communication issues. All in all my experience was great! I would work with them again if needed.

International Van Lines recently delivered my stuff. After inspection, I had no damage or loss, which is excellent. I moved from Atlanta, GA, to Medford, MA, and it was a 4 bedroom house. International Van Lines did a fantastic job with my move. I don't often leave reviews, but in this case, it's worth it because the moving industry is shotty. I picked them based on their reviews and my sales rep, Justin. Justin was very attentive and made sure all my questions were answered. Unlike other companies, they didn't make me feel pressured to book my move. Their movers showed up as planned and packed to perfection. Everything was delivered with no damage, so I was a happy camper. I would use them again if I were ever to move.

International vanlines truly disappointed me .. they subcontract smaller moving company with poor customer service and ethic , my delivery was late and I had to reschedule delivery the next day and they charged me redelivery fee even if it was their responsibility to show up on time due to freight hours of operation and storage hours of operation. So don’t be fooled by the big name of this company!

Local move.

IVL relocated my family to Worcester, MA from Boston. It was a smaller local move, but it's everything I own. Even though IVL was a bit more expensive than others, I didn't mind paying because of their reputation. I've hired a moving company before based on price, which ended up costing me way more than hiring a quality company. My sales rep Brian made things very easy for me. He managed the move from start to finish and literally called me after delivery to make sure I was pleased with the outcome. I wanted to take the time and leave them 5 stars because of the job well done.

I hired IVL back in May for a small move from Atlanta, GA to Hollywood, FL. My stuff was in storage for a couple of months and just yesterday received everything. This is the 5th time I had to hire a mover and they were by far more professional than the others. I had no damage so they clearly did a great job packing and protecting my household goods. The crew that picked up and delivered were both a delight. I would also like to thank my sales rep, Justin who did a great job overseeing the entire moving process. I can thank them enough and I wanted to take a moment to leave them a 5 star review. Keep up the good work IVL.

T's hard to find good moving companies, especially in Florida. I spent countless hours on the internet, only to find bad apples everywhere. It seems that the industry has a lot of complaints, regardless of the mover. Although IVL has some complaints, they were mentioned in Consumer Report as a top-rated moving company. They were a bit more expensive, but well worth the money. They moved my 4 bedroom house locally in Florida and did a great job. They managed to complete everything in 2 days and without any issues. Long-distance move from Alexandria, VA to Parker, CO

Never use this moving company!

After unpacking all our boxes, we are still missing our son’s first birthday gift. We kept it in the original box and never opened it because we were going to open it and give it to him when we got to our new townhouse.

The movers broke our desk and one of our lamps. They also broke part of our son’s changing table so it’s weaker and not as sturdy now.

We paid them over $8,000 on this move. They scratched up a lot of our furniture. We couldn’t believe how poorly they took care of our items.

I contacted our representative Brian that provided us a quote and Karen, who set up our moving date/payment a few days ago, and still nothing has been done.

Car Pickup/Delivery:
The car delivery guy was supposed to come between 4 and 6PM on September 3rd. Our friend waited until 7PM and didn’t hear from him until 8PM, when he told her that he wasn’t coming until 9AM the next morning. She went early to be there for when he arrived and he didn’t get there until 11AM.

When delivering the car, he contacted us saying it would be delivered on September 7th around noon and 1PM. He didn’t call us until 3PM to tell us he was 400 ft. from our townhouse (which he wasn’t, he was more like 4 miles from our townhouse). We found a neighbor to lead us to the main road that the driver said he was on. We drove up and back on that road for over 30 minutes and couldn’t find him. Finally we had to meet him at the local hospital to get our car.

DC Movers (movers that packed/loaded our items):
These movers arrived on our backup date of September 30th and they came at 9:30AM and brought a smaller truck, so they spent a half hour figuring out how they would pack everything before they even began. They started loading, taking apart furniture and wrapping it all up. They told us that everything we take apart and wrap up will be put back together for you once it gets to your destination.

They charged us an additional $800 for packing and protecting our furniture, then they charged us another $2,000 or so dollars because we had used up double the cubic feet we were quoted. They finished at 2PM and then he spent another 30 minutes going over everything, calculating and telling us the new total along with the date it would be delivered (September 7th).

Later in the week, we were contacted saying that our shipment left on Thursday and that it would be to us on Monday, September 9th or Tuesday, September 10th. We needed to stay in a hotel for 2 extra nights because our items didn’t arrive until Monday, September 9th.

Original Movers (movers that unloaded our items):
On Sunday, September 8th, I was contacted by German telling us they’d arrive between 2 and 5 PM to unload our items. They arrived around 2PM; however, they told us they needed the payment before they started moving anything. They sat in the truck until 2:30PM when my husband arrived and gave him the Postal Money Order.

They were very rough with our items. They were banging things around. They broke our desk. Then they told me and my husband that they don’t put furniture together again, that they aren’t allowed. They refused to put the furniture together that DC Movers disassembled, wrapped up and told us would all be put back together by the movers once it arrived at the new destination.

German called a lady named Jennifer who was so rude and unprofessional both over the phone and previously through email. They were rolling dollies all over our townhouse and banging them along the steps/walls with no care in the world.

Why does International Van Lines work with such poor, unprofessional companies? They should be ashamed of the way we, our home and items were treated.
