Beware of HireAHelper.

I recently booked a moving company as advertised on their site at $85 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours service. I then had to provide all my information (plus some), including my credit card, to get the final price (assuming it to be about $85 X 2, right?). When I clicked the continue button (or what ever it was labeled) my order was confirmed/done..without seeing the final price. I then received an email for a price of $449. What? I call the company immediately to cancel the move as this total was NOT provided when I had to give my credit card information. When I called, immediately after receiving the email with the price owed, I was told that I would be charge a $85 cancellation fee that would be provided to the movers because the move was for the next day and it was less than 24 hours. After telling them that the scam was outrageous I asked them to please call the company while I was on hold to see if they would waive the fee. They then put me on hold for a couple minutes to "act" like they called the company. When she came back on she said simply that it was cancelled. I then called the company directly to thank them for allowing the cancellation free of charge. Here's the kicker..the company was NEVER called NOR had they ever received any cancellation fee from HireAHelper when a job was cancelled (which had occurred a number of times). HireAHelper flat out lied to me ..twice! All I needed was 30 minutes of fairly simple moving help from a small trailer into storage and ended up working for an hour to get out of a $449 fee that was not communicated to me prior to my acceptance. In addition, the company that I had requested said they had no way to communicate with HireAHelper to ask them questions or communicate their own concerns. Customers Beware! Just go straight through the company as it will be cheaper and safer.

LA Moving Centre, Inc.

LA Moving Centre, Inc. is fabulous. The owner is "hands on" to insure the highest of standards are met. The movers were careful to protect both the articles being moved and the walls of the houses (to and from)into which they were moved. The workers were fast, efficient, and pleasant. In short, they were very competent and professional making the experience for me stress free. The cost of the move was very competitive and I knew what the end cost would be right up front. There were no hidden charges.

The company provided everything needed like the appropriate size truck, dollies, pads, and plastic wrap so I was worry free.

My move was local and I had done all of the packing, but I would not hesitate to hire them for a longer distance and for help with the packing.

I had no prior knowledge of this company and booked them online. I feel so lucky to have selected LA Moving Centre, Inc. Hopefully this review will help you make the same choice.

The Facts About Hire a Helper (Fair Review).

The problem with your review is that it did not supply any verifiable facts. I had the good sense to do a little research regarding Hire a Helper. It was based on their prices. I wanted to know why they were higher than other moving labor companies.       These are the facts: Hire a Helper is not a moving company. Hire a Helper does not do the work or is liable for what happens on location.   Hire a Helper was successfully sued on 2010 (Here is a Newswire regarding the suit http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/movinghelpcom-uses-lawsuit-to-put-an-end-to-competitors-misuse-of-trademark-and-intellectual-property-104530219.html)   Because of the lawsuit, Hire a Helpers cost significantly went up.   You do not need to use Hire a Helper to hire the same movers you will find on hire a helper.       The lawsuit was about how the owner was a hacker and stole a lot of elements from Movinghelp.com and created Hire a Helper. (why give info to a known hacker). The lawsuit didn't disclose the amount, but they did say Mike Glanz (hire a helper) has to pay on a regular basis, but didn't state how long (indefinite?).
Now we are beginning to understand why Hire a Helpers prices are higher than the rest. Sure, their site gives a feel of being credible and honest; But a closer look at the companies situation indicates otherwise.   Why would customer pay his longstanding debt? Isn't moving labor suppose to be a cheaper alternative to moving? That's why I was looking for movers in the first place, to find cheap but professional movers for just labor (load my rental truck).   When I read the review posted, I suspected it was from someone at Hire a Helper. You see a lot of reviews with conclusory statements (they state conclusions but do not state the reason or any proof at all for them). And for some odd reason, the truth doesn't seem to be in any of the reviews.   These are facts, verifiable by a simple google search regarding hire a helper, and by looking at hire a helpers website. On there, they let you know, on top of the regular cost the movers charge, Hire a Helper adds another $50 to it. And they also get 15% off the movers charge for a "marketplace fee". So, instead of just paying the movers their hundred, you pay $150, and Hire a Helper (who does not work and has no legal liable to what happens on location) gets $65 per order on average.   Conclusion, is Hire a Helper a scam. The answer is No. But their history and legal issues did drive up the cost of their business (crime & punishment). There are other companies who can connect customers to movers for a lot less..like movinghelp.com for example.   FYI, after reading Hire a Helpers history, I decided not to go with them. I simply googled the name of one of the companies you can find on their website. I ended up hiring the company directly for $90, whereas Hire a Helper was trying to charge $145 for 2 men 2 hours for the same movers.   Hire a Helper equals to HAH, yeah right! Quote straight from their page: " HireAHelper will retain fifteen (15) percent of the fees quoted. In addition to the fifteen (15) percent fee due to HireAHelper, an additional $50 fee applies to each completed Order. This fee of fifty (50) dollars will be automatically added to each Order." (Source https://www.hireahelper.com/sign-up/, terms and agreement: section 7. Standard Payment and Reviews) (Uhaul Public Relations via Newswire: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/movinghelpcom-uses-lawsuit-to-put-an-end-to-competitors-misuse-of-trademark-and-intellectual-property-104530219.html).

Hire A Helper (HAH) is a NIGHTMARE company!

Hire A Helper (HAH) is a NIGHTMARE company, DO NOT USE THEM, they are the WORST company I have ever used! Remember you are paying HAH, NOT the people or company they choose and send out; no mater what happens HAH does NOT take any responsibility, or try to help? I recently called them for a simple move, from one APT to another in the same complex. Their company rep Casper of HAH booked and recommended a company based on the reviews this company had with HAH. They did no background checks at all! The company HAH booked sent out two men that were NOT employees, and had never worked for them before? They were hired out of a day labor hiring hall! They showed up late, with no moving tools, in essence moving dollies, no experience moving anything! They were completely un-prepared for the move! One was a chain smoker, and looked and acted like he was a “METH HEAD” he smelled so bad who knows when his last shower was? I found out later he was homeless!! I called up HAH and was put on hold via a reordered voice stating that no one could answer my call, to leave my number? I needed help right then! I called the moving company HAH hired and they just said “okay I will cancel and pull my men!! Just leave me hanging! The “METH HEAD” wanted his money from me! I told him no way! He put up his fists and threatened me!! I said okay come on! He backed up 10 feet! He then said you better pay me! I said or what? He said he was going to call the Police and I said fine, we both called the Police, “HAH is a NIGHTMARE! The Police showed up and the other moving man was my witness to the “METH HEAD” threatening me, and demanding his money! He was calling me names and yelling at me in front of all the new neighbors in my new APT complex! He also called his mommy! She showed up just before the Police did! My witness (the other mover) proceeded to tell the Police the story, and how the “METH HEAD” threaten me! The Police asked me if I wanted him arrested, but he would then know my name etc. I said no and they let him go. He took photos of my car and License plate before the Police showed up. Now I have to check my car constantly and stay up late at night to watch it, for weeks now! I called HAH on that Friday and told them what happened. They said “Wes” would call me on the following Monday. I left Wes an email on that Friday. Monday no call nothing! So I left Wes another email stating that I was going to leave this review! He finally called me. He was VERY RUDE and condescending, he threw things in my face that I mentioned to the two HAH reps I had spoken with, as if they were NOT true? He knows nothing about the things I mentioned! Wes offered nothing and took no responsibility for the HORRIFIC experience I had! If Wes worked for me and treated a customer the way he did me I would fire him! This is “Hire A Helper” I’m sure these NIGHTMARE scenarios happen all the time with HAH! DO NOT USE HAH AND RISK THIS OR WORSE HAPPENING TO YOU!

Long-distance move from Marietta, GA to Columbia, MD

Hit or miss.

I wrote a poor review on Hire-A-Helper for Harley's Logistics on 7/18/17 with a 1 star rating. It appears my reveiw was changed without my knowledge so I am writing this again. Makes me wonder how many other 1 star reviews were changed to 5 star without customers being aware.

I hired Harley's Logistics through Hire-A-Helper to unload a tractor trailer with my household belongings on 7/18/17, I went through Hire-A-Helper because I used them to load my belongings at my previous address and was very satisfied with their professionalism and work. After booking Harley's Logistics, I only spoke to the owner Chris' wife because Chris was out of town. She explained she was filling in while still working her other full time job. I hired 3 helpers for 4 hours. On the day of the move, 4 movers showed up and one of them was not Chris. They obviously found someone to fill in for him. The 4th worker spent 1/2 the time watching the other 3 workers or outside smoking. That said, they showed up with no tools or furniture dolly to unload a full household of furniture. They scratched my hardwood floors to the tune of a repair estimate of $3,400+ and damaged my leather sleeper sofa. Be aware that Harley's Logistics does NOT have commercial liability insurance and Hire-A-Helper will only cover damages to your home or business up to $1,000. which mean I am now responsible for $2,400. of the repair to my floors. When their time was up, none of the shrink wrap was removed from my furniture (seems like the guy who stood around watching could have at least done that) and although boxes were labeled by room I found them in the incorrect rooms days later. The only good thing I can say about this company is that they have a great employee named Jason. I would have been better off paying more for professional movers because now I have to pay to have my floors repaired. He was the only one of the four who actually knew what he was doing.

Local move from San Marcos, CA to Oceanside, CA

Was really great.

I have used Hire a helper twice for two different local moves, each time I used a different moving company for help and it went great both times.

Hire a helper is a marketplace to help you find moving help, and provides some basic customer service and protection in case you get a "bad" mover. The reviews on hire a helper's site were very helpful in finding good moving help companies and I was happy to pay the extra fee for their help.

I'm sure it's possible to have a bad experience with a mover found through Hire a helper, just like it would be if I used the yellow pages or craigslist to find someone. That seems to be the story in several of these reviews. But I had a great experience both times and will use them again when I move next.

Long-distance move from Las Vegas, NV to Angels Camp, CA

Great Company.

I called hire a helper to get someone to move all my stuff out of a jam packed storage unit that was 10’x30’ into a 26’ truck in Las Vegas and then unpack the truck into a 12’x28’ unit in Angels Camp, CA. I worked with two seperate crews, one in Vegas & one in California. The communications were top of the line from when I booked them several weeks ahead of time to the very last minute, not to mention how impressed I was by the crews ability to get all the work done in a very efficient & timely manner.
I will most certainly be calling them again to move all my stuff into my house once it’s built!

A move from Madison to LaCrosse.

I would definitely use Hire a Helper again! The Madison workers provided the services I hired them for in the allotted time. They arrived on time, were hard workers, polite, and pleasant to be around. They loaded the truck well and we had no problems or damage to our items.

I also hired workers to meet us in LaCrosse to unload the truck. The workers were on time and worked the allotted time. they were careful with the items transported. I would definitely use this service again. the two teams made our moving adventure much less stressful, and provided labor that I can no longer can. A great big THANKS!!

HireaHelper is no more than a scam.

Hire laHelper is no more than a scam. They will charge you in full before the service and then they will come back after a couple weeks with extra charge and they say: oops, we undercharged you in the first place. Stay away from them, they are no more than a scam. However, the helpers themselves were not bad.

Very Professional!

The process with using Hire A Helper was fast, efficient and professional. They followed up via email and phone insuring that we had a good experience. There was some confusion for the movers as they did not dispatch our guys promptly but the guys made up for it. They arrived an hour after scheduled time but busted their butts getting all our large furniture moved in and in half the allotted time. We were very impressed with the young men and their hard work.
