I have had a few terrible moving experiences, and had basically written off all movers as dishonest and incompetent. Flatrate was an amazing surprise. First of all, just the flat rate - the absolute transparency about the price - should be a rule for every moving company, and was just a huge relief for me, knowing that they wouldn't jack up the price in the last minute. And the price was lower than another company I compared to! Second, the movers were highly competent, efficient, and friendly. Third, the communication was excellent throughout - co. employees emailed or called with any issues, responded to questions clearly, and generally were so easy to work with. Highly recommend and would definitely use again.

I shopped around a bit but Flatrate was the only one that could come by and give an honest assessment right away. Their pricing is transparent and it's good to know the cost upfront and not have to deal with that on an already stressful day.

The movers were amazing. Right on time (actually 1 minute early at 8:59!), super humble and worked so incredibly hard. Everything was wrapped up and tons of attention to detail. I've moved 3 times in 5 years and this was by far the best experience.

I go to college in NYC and was kicked out of the dorms so the beds could be used as overflow beds for hospitals burdened by COVID 19 or to house medical personnel. Due to the short notice, I was unable to pack my belongings before going home. Thankfully, Flatrate Moving provided a hassle-free move and storage solution when I was unable to be there myself. All the representatives I spoke to were friendly and accommodating and the movers kept me updated every step of the way.

The flatrate moving app was also helpful for adding items that I had forgotten to include. My one complaint is the inaccuracy of the "locate your truck" feature, as it said my truck was in the same spot for multiple hours when I knew it was definitely not there. Furthermore, the app only allows you to add new items to your inventory, not increase the quantity of an existing item.

Overall experience with FlatRate was great - from the sales rep and quick quote to the actual moving day. The moving team arrived a few minutes early and moved everything very carefully and efficiently. My specific team (Elmostafa, Mamado and Zoran) was fantastic - very friendly and worked very hard to make sure I was comfortable with everything they were doing. The FlatRate team made moving in NYC (from my apartment to storage during Covid-19) much better than expected. Would highly recommend.

You can compare prices with 10 different moving companies, but if the moving day experience is terrible, or if you get up charged at the end because you have more boxes than you estimated, or decided to take that bookcase, you’re going to be angry and more stressed than necessary. We compared prices and Flatrate wasn’t the cheapest, but the guy we talk to sounded like he knew what he was doing. He did a virtual walk through through FaceTime, and gave us an estimate that was in the ballpark but on the high end of the others. But he convinced me that a few extra boxes won’t change the price with his company. And I had no assurances with the others.

Moving day comes and the team of 4 gets here right on time, introduces themselves, reassures us they will take care of everything. They were very polite, really nice guys. And they moved a large 2 bedroom apartment with stairs into the truck in 90 minutes. That includes disassembling 2 beds and a table. And we had probably close to 15 boxes more than estimated but he kept the agreed to price. At the destination they tried to read what we wrote on the boxes to put them in the right rooms for us. Each piece of furniture was unwrapped and put exactly where we asked.

Why were these guys so good? I think #1 they were genuinely good guys. And #2, they work for tips. So please, tip your movers generously!! I don’t want to think about moving again, but if I had to I would call Flatrate.

I have used Flat Rate 3 times and every time, every service person involved has been fabulous - professional, friendly, responsible, accommodating - all eager to make my move a positive experience in any way they could. This last move was from a large storage unit in New Jersey to California. Every aspect of the move went smoothly. I kept changing my dates and what I would move, getting different estimates - but Bernard Smith in NY was undeterred in his flexible, good humor to support me through my process. The loading men in NJ did extra packing around my furniture to insure all would remain intact across the country. The men unloading at 2 locations in CA went beyond what was necessary to accommodate me. Friendly, eager-to-please people called during the process to keep me abreast of what was happening where with my belongings. All of the people with whom I dealt seemed to be happy in their jobs!! I cannot recommend Flat Rate more strongly. I would use them again, although I hope this has been my last move!

If you are looking to spend a big lump of money for some people to come to your home and begrudgingly thrash your furniture around and recklessly move your fragile items, this is the company for you!

I never ever write reviews but was recommended by a close friend to go with FlatRate and have been so disappointed that I felt obligated to warn people.

Everything went well until they had my money. The communication in getting the quote was comprehensive and quick... unfortunately the professionalism and quality of service did not live up to expectations (or cost) on the day it mattered. Movers were indolent, tense and made claims that went against FlatRate guarantees of service.

Movers damaged 80% of our inventory. They broke a bed frame, bookshelf and stripped the screws on our reassembled furniture.

They offered to have a carpenter fix our damaged goods and we refused, as we didn't want to give them another opportunity to disappoint us. We have yet to hear back from them. Instead of rectifying the situation and doing right by the customer, they opted for radio silence.

I have moved way too many times in and around the boroughs of NYC, and have used FlatRate for most of my moves. They may not be the cheapest, but they are the most reliable, professional, and conscientious moving company I've dealt with. Other companies have gone way over their allotted time to milk the clock to charge me significantly more than quoted - that was what first drove me to contact FlatRate. Another time, the movers themselves verbally berated me for having too much stuff. I have a few more examples like those, but suffice it to say, I don't get the runaround, belittling, or unexpected overcharges for moves with FlatRate. I also tip my movers 20% because they work their asses off, (especially if their crew is fantastic as some crews are not as good as others) as these pre-war apartments have small hallways, elevators and odd doorway shapes to squeeze furniture in. My furniture has no damage and I have no broken items. (I do all my own packing and rent plastic bins.) I highly recommend FlatRate.

Best moving experience one could have.

They packed me up- were so efficient and fastidious- they were way ahead of schedule- and then unpacked me in the same manner. Moving is so stressful- they took all the stress away from me and were so professional and thorough. There were a few scratches- but they were noted and recorded and a carpenter arrived the next day and repaired- I was blown away by all of this. Even friends and family commented they have never seen a move like this. Highly!!!!!! Recommend!!!!!

Last month, after extensive research, my husband and I contracted FlatRate Moving to move out of a turn of the century brownstone to a doorman building 3 blocks away. We were impressed by the company's guarantee of an efficient, careful move and after several stressful months of packing and organizing, we were looking forward to getting everything done with seasoned professionals.

Unfortunately, our experience was anything but easy. Even though my husband had done a virtual walk-through with the salesman prior to our moving, the foreman, after directing his team to pack up our belongings and load them onto the truck, expressed surprise at the "amount of stuff" we had and the number of floors and threatened to call the company which he said would certainly result in more expenses. His aim was obviously to work a bigger tip out of my husband - essentially it was a shakedown. My husband, stressed and anxious about additional charges, wound up paying a huge tip.

After the move, my husband went back to our old apartment - a restored antique building - and found various instances of damage - a large hole in the wall, a wooden shard missing from a hallway floor, and a ceiling lamp that had been knocked out - none of which was shared with us when it happened. Of course, we felt angry and duped after giving such a large tip to discover these accidents were not communicated to us. Eventually we did get satisfaction on a couple of these points of damage - my husband worked with the customer service department (which took FOREVER) and eventually got a number of these items repaired.

But, most importantly - protective mats were NOT used on any of the wooden floors or carpets, something that was absolutely written into our contract and something as professionals the movers should have done. By the time my husband and I noticed, the moving process was well under way and likely much of the damage had been done.

Our landlady inspected the apartment after we left and was very disappointed with the state of the floors. Because the movers did not use protection, there are scratches and scrapes across the floors of much of the house as well as stains to the carpet. She is now holding our 2 month security deposit while we were forced to open a claim against the moving company.

It's currently with their general counsel who has not responded to multiple emails and phone calls from my husband over the past week and a half, despite understanding the urgency of this matter.

It's like they ghosted us.

This is truly our worst nightmare. We risk not just losing our security deposit - we'll be forced to potentially fight this battle in court with this moving company and potentially our landlady.

Do not use this company.

Flat Rate did an outstanding job on my recent move. It was a complicated operation, but the representative worked with me extensively to handle all the details and help me manage the cost. On moving day, the team was incredible. They packaged fragile items carefully, disassembled and reassembled my couch with no instructions, moved a huge amount of stuff, and placed it where I asked. They worked tirelessly, and did a really great job. Everybody I dealt with was unfailingly polite, friendly, and professional, and they did their best to give me a good outcome. This is the second time (hopefully the last!) that I’ve used Flat Rate, and I can’t recommend them highly enough.
