Long-distance move from North Carolina to Wisconsin

Worst dishonest, unprofessional comapny ever.

This was the worst experience ever. Every contact with company representatives were dishonest. The move ended up costing $2,600 more than the original quote. We contacted the sales person to change the inventory list and we were told not to worry since we had a guaranteed price quoted.

The movers were late outside the guarantted pick up date. WHen we called representatives we were promised a return phone call and never received a return phone call.

We were told the delivery would be at least 10 days. Due to the increase in total cost we figured we had the 10 days to come up with the extra money. The company then called 3 days later to communicate a delivery the next morning. Alex Bell was argumentative, yelling, and would not provide the name of his supervisor or manager. He claimed the owner was an 80 year old woman who was out of the country and he refused to provide her phone # or the FIN of the company. This company is dishonest and cheats customers. They need to be shut out of business. I have reported this to the BBB as well as the local news company "on you side" to investigate and provide a public news report so others will not be impacted and ripped off by this company.

Excellent Moving company..Did an excellent job.

This was my fist time moving and I had to move from Florida to Colombus,Ohio and I chose Flat rate moving based some of the good reviews in internet and some were not that good also. But I had a very good experience in using their services. The relocation specialist Bob was Polite ,courteous and good in understanding my moving needs and was able to accommodate my requests for adding additional items to the inventory and also changing the moving dates due to my new job.He had a good understanding of the relocation and how it needs to be done in a professional manner.

The Truck Guys-Uvan and his associate ,who had brought the goods were also polite and made sure that there was no damage to any of our items.Very Polite Guys and Good in doing their job.

Flatrate - Steer Clear!!

FLATRATE MOVING – NYC REVIEW Move date Friday 28 August 2015  UNPROFESSIONAL LAZY STAFF WHO FAILED TO COMPLETE THE JOB ON TIME – DO NOT USE
PACK & PREP  2 female “packers” turned up instead of 3-4 “movers” who were supposed to also prep all of the furniture ready for the move the next day. Hours later after we insisted, they sent some movers in the afternoon. So a half day job turned into a full day job – not good if you had only planned to take a half day off work.
MOVERS
The building’s Super said he had never seen such LAZY movers and would take note to never use FlateRate Movers. Took 4hrs (10-2) to move out of a fully packed and prepped 2 bedroom apartment with elevators. We purchased them lunch then they disappeared for 45mins between apartments (it’s a 5-minute drive) leaving 1h15m to move into the new apartment. Obviously, they failed to move into the new apartment on time. We asked if they needed more people earlier in the day (when it was clear to us that they weren’t going to move in by the deadline and they said no).  Careless – broke building elevator sensor and damaged two pieces of our furniture. Hopeless – could not assemble the basic furniture such as a bed, crib. This required supervision by us to ensure the task was completed correctly.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
When the movers disappeared for 45mins leaving 1hr15m to move in – I was frantically contacting FlatRate customer service to try and get more men to get the job done on time. I spoke to 3 people all who failed to assist and merely advised that the movers are entitled to a lunch break. None of the 3 people called me back as I asked with a solution (being more people to complete the move on time) to the quickly approaching deadline of moving the furniture in before the building cut off time. I also phoned the agent that had done the assessment on my apartment and who had been my contact in arranging the move, and he failed to answer the three times I called.
OVERALL
Extremely stressful day and FlatRate did not help one bit in trying to make the day run smoothly. Whatever you do, steer clear of this company.

Flat Rate move.

Previously I posted my bad experience but Flat Rate called me and I had a discussion with them. They listened to my case and explained the issue I had. They gave me a 600$ discount. It was a fair deal and I was pleased with the outcome. The fact that a company listens to its customers is something very important and I was impressed by this; it does not happen very often.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Cambridge, MA

Excellent work.

I have nothing but high praise for this company. A very professional and courteous employee conducted a thoughtful in-person visit to my home first to take an inventory (good job, Lewis), and he then followed up within 24 hours -- on a Sunday, no less -- with a quotation. The price was competitive: not the cheapest, but unlike many of the company's competitors the number I was given was a solid quote, not a slippery "best estimate." So I decided to give them a try.

As it turned out, I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience. Blake and his team of movers showed up on time and worked diligently and carefully for several hours on each end. The move was conducted on schedule and with tremendous care. Even the heaviest items (including a piano which had to travel up to the fourth floor of an elevator-less building at the destination) were moved gently and safely.

High points: the predictability of the "flat rate" quotation; the *excellent* courtesy and professionalism of the employees; and the attention and care with which the job was done. Not a glass was broken.

Low points: not much to speak of. Perhaps including one more person on the team at the destination would have made the process a little faster. And the move-in process started a couple of hours behind schedule. Nothing that would warrant kicking the rating down from five to four stars.

Overall: great job, would use again, would highly recommend. Bravo.

Things are missing and company is not responsive.

I wish I could give this company a zero star review. We selected them for a last minute move from San Francisco to NYC, paid for by my husband's company. Our things are still in storage, so I can't even review them in terms of delivery timeliness and damage.

What I can say is that the move out process was horrendous. Booking was easy and quick, and we selected the white glove service for a full move and pack, with insurance. For the price we paid ($10k+ for a 4BR), I expected them to treat our things with care and be professionals. Instead, out of our four movers, three spoke no English and one spoke broken English but enough to get by. Two of the movers seemed to be underage. Again, not a huge deal if the move was done well and they understood instructions.

We had fairly simple move out instructions -- pack everything except one drawer clearly marked "DO NOT MOVE" and one box, which we asked to be packed with a few specific items to take on the plane.

There were several issues: the movers forgot to pack items throughout the house, including a whole drawer in a closet, several things on the wall, a vacuum cleaner in a closet, etc.

They packed our DO NOT MOVE drawer, which included jewelry I had taken off to not ruin while moving, medications, and toiletries.

The box that we asked them to pack to take on the plane was packed with an assortment of items from three different rooms. None of them were the items we requested in the box.

To make things worse, we called the company's LA office to complain several times and the issue still hasn't been resolved. Our move was 5 weeks ago now, and I'm honestly not sure if I'm ever going to see our stuff again, or in what condition. We paid over $10k for the move, and I regret every penny of it.

Moving can be a stressful process, we were extremely fortunate to have hired you to handle our move. Abdel and his partner arrived promptly this morning to begin the moving process. They were professional, courteous and efficient. From the moment they entered our home it was apparent that we had experienced movers with a plan to execute with precision. Thank you for sending Abdel and his partner because they exceeded our expectations.

International move from , UK to Houston, TX

Absolutely horrendous experience.

Used them for our latest relocation from London UK to Huston TX. Everything seems ok and smooth until we have received our boxes in Houston back in February 2018. Even now, 5 months later we are still trying to figure out what happened with some of our items. Flat Rate non existing customer service simply didn't even try to provide answers. We were not looking or expecting any compensation but just a sheer explanation what and why has happened. Most of missing items have only sentimental values for us. We are moving back and forward every 3-4 years and this is the first time that we have so miserable experience.

Long-distance move from San Francisco, CA to Austin, TX

Great experience here in SF.

I will be recommending FlatRate to everyone now. They made our San Francisco-to-Austin move very easy and transparent at every step of the process. They provide services for free that other major providers do not offer (like packing TV, wardrobes, etc). On the day of the move, the moving crew even went above and beyond and returned to pick up additional boxes I forgot about in a closet. I have never moved with a company as nice and responsive as these guys! Will definitely be looking to move with FlatRate in future as well.

Amaxing and professional.

Pablo and Muhammad of flatrate moving were amazing and extremely professional. They called to give me an eta before arriving, arrived early and ready to get started immediately, reviewed the inventory list and other important documents, ensured that I understood every step of the process, answered all of my questions, loaded and unloaded my possessions with care, a sense of urgency, and nothing was broken. They definitely decreased my stress and anxiety level throughout this transition, and I recommend flatrate moving to everyone.

Flatrate Destruction.

Flatrate Moving should be called Flatrate Destruction. When Flatrate delivered our goods they had destroyed all four legs on a valuable coffee table, had broken the plexiglass covering of a very large expensive piece of artwork, gouged the frames of our bed in many places and had broken other valuables. We had insured the shipment for $28,308. We filed a claim for $5,139, a very honest statement of our loss. Flatrate sent us a check for $827.32. Flatrate said that since the actual value of the shipment was greater than the $28,308 coverage, they were paying only 18% of the claim. We regret that we failed to read all of the negative reviews before contracting with Flatrate.

Seamless, Painless, honest move.

I’ve moved twice in the past two years, and used flat rate both times. I’m beyond happy with them, enough to take the time to write a review..the price they quote you is the price you pay. The agent who helped me set up my move was not only attentive and pleasant, but every time I emailed him a question or adjustment, I heard back within the hour. That’s insane. The movers are beasts. They work hard, quickly and carefully. Both crews both moves were excellent, polite and trustworthy. Honestly, use these guys - even if your quote is a little higher than other companies, the transparency and simplicity these guys bring the table is best in class.

Ok movers, terrible at resolving claims.

I had used FlatRate in the past with good results..but I guess that's because nothing broke. This last move, they broke a $3000 dining table. I submitted a claim as instructed, waited 21 business days (the form says it takes between 14 and 21) with no word. I contacted them and was told they were waiting for something from operations. Later that day I received a new email asking me to submit the claim. I spoke to someone, very nice, who said I didn't have to resubmit the claim and would hear back the next day. It's now 26 business days and still no answer. Will update as we go along, in the meantime, I would suggest looking at other moving options.

My move from CT to NJ came up super quickly, and I was recommended FlatRate by my friend who had used them before. I submitted an inquiry online, and in less than an hour, was contacted! Adam was so easy to work with, and answered my many questions. When moving day came, I had a team of 3 great guys arrive to pack and move me. Reggie, Terrell and Bojan were excellent. They were punctual, professional, and quick! They really made a stressful day much better. Thanks guys for keeping me smiling, and for getting my stuff to my new home in PERFECT condition!

Great company for moving.

Flatrate movers have continuously helped me with my moves over the last 8 years.. from New York to colorado and back.. and then several inner NYC moves.. now to new jersey.. flatrate has been so reliable and worth every penny. The movers are highly efficient and very careful with our things.. their attention to detail as well as their flexibility to do things like tossing out old furniture as part of the move.. it's just a great service.

When we arrived at my new apartment, we found that the floors were not ready and I would not be able t movie into my unit for several hours. The movers waited patiently for 4 hours as I tried to get access to my unit, and eventually moved my things into storage space that I secured. Then, they offered to come back the next day (the 4th of July) to help me move my things into my unit. This ended up not being necessary, but I greatly appreciated their professionalism and patience. At the end of the day, moving ended up being the least stressful part of this experience.

Outstanding Experience.

What an incredible moving experience. The movers at FlatRate took better care of my belongings than I could have possibly imagined (or done myself).

My wife and I moved from NYC to Philadelphia and booked FlatRate to move out of our two bedroom apartment. The whole experience was flawless, from the customer service before the move, to the extremely efficient and thoughtful movers. 10/10.

Worst moving company in all NY. DO not contract them.

Every once in a while you find unreliable service companies, but Flatrate probably wins the price in terms of incompetence and negligence. I contracted an all inclusive moving service (including dissembling and reassembling a sofa and a bed frame) to move a 1bdr apartment from the Upper West to Long Island City on August 28, 2019. Well, I will tell you something, my sofa never arrived to my new apartment!! Someone from the carpentry team broke my sofa (while trying to dissemble it) and decided that the sofa could no longer be of any use (and took advantage of the fact that we were already travelling with another Flatrate team to our new apartment) and unilaterally took the decision to dispatch it as garbage it at an unknown location. After 3 hours of having no news of the carpentry team, they finally showed up with our frame bed (which by the way was severally scratched and damaged) and this person had the nerve of telling us he decided to ditch our (which he broke) sofa somewhere unknown. Unfortunately, that is not even the worst part of dealing with Flatrate. Their sales team seems nice (at least on the surface..), but their claim team is the most unhelpful, incompetent and negligent team you can imagine. We submitted a claim form the first week of September and we still have not get an answer on our claim. They do not answer our emails or phone calls, and neither the sales team has helped at all. I sincerely hope you do not commit the same mistake I did when deciding to hire Flatrate. The experience was and continues to be a nightmare.

INCOMPETENCE from beginning to end.

To begin, Larry P. comes to give us an estimate by evaluating the items to be packed and moved into storage and then back home. We get 2 estimates from him (into & out of storage) and are quoted a FLATRATE price, to include full insurance coverage. The moving day arrives, as does the team and 3/4's of the way through were notified that Larry P. missed several items, so there would be a price adjustment, increaser. At this point I am thinking bait & switch, but we gotta go, so we proceed.
Our items get moved into storage for 2 weeks and thinking, this was not a bad experience. Then I am reviewing my American Express Bill and see that both moves were charged out at one time. I call and speak with Larry's boss, George. George apologizes, speaks to a woman near him and asks her to credit the account $ x amount, never happened. And then they charged us again for the move out of storage.
We move back in and notice that there are 3 individual items damaged or broken during the move, and here I think, this is annoying and we have full coverage. Then 2-3 weeks later I notice that there is another brand new piece of custom made furniture that is damaged in 3 places. Due to the fact that it is a lacquered custom table, I do not not know if it's salvageable or needs to be remade. Again, I think to myself, this is annoying and we have full coverage. Whew what a relief, it was worth the investment.
We submit the 2 claim forms and all the pics, not once, once twice..but at least 7 times. The geniuses in Claims, never thought to scroll down a bit and find the pictures. They kept telling me the e-mails did not contain any pictures. The Claims manager, Talisha does not return phone calls nor e-mails. So the Sales manager put me in touch with Customer Service, Bernadette. She started off very communicative and feel off the face of the earth, when the billing situation came up. Then I get a form letter stating that we are covered for .60 cents a pound. Needless to say I am a bit puzzled. So I go back to my e-mails and forward the e-mails indicating what level of coverage we wanted,( how else would I know the cost of full coverage).
I was told by Bernadette last week that the VP of FlatRate would be back from vacation on Monday, 10/28/2019. I called him this morning at approximately 10-10:15. Only to be told he was out of the office and she did not know when he'd be in. I asked for George and he was not available; Bernadette was also not available and I did not bother asking for Talisha. I called back about 10 minutes later to see if George was available, but he magically went into a meeting.
So when I returned home this afternoon I called American Express and disputed all charges associated with this move. The agent at AMX asked me if I had been in contact with FlatRate and I told her a very, very, very abbreviated version of the above, names only were given.
I will never use them again and only recommend them as a how not to run a business model.

Careless, rough, and unapologetic!

These guys have some of the worst customer service I've Ever experienced. Adam Robb handled my move and then as soon as things went wrong, he disappeared. I bought a new sofa from an outlet in Brooklyn and needed it moved to the city. The rate was $500 to move one sofa 4 miles. I didn't want to shop around so I agreed. I was reassured that it would be well wrapped and taken care of, and delivered to me in perfect condition. When the drivers showed up, I came downstairs and saw that they were dragging my brand new leather sofa on its side, the whole length of the truck. Furthermore, the sofa wasn't wrapped!! I couldn't believe my eyes. Its a $13k brand new leather sofa from Restoration Hardware and these guys are treating it like I bought it at a thrift store for 200 bucks. Of course there was a huge scratch in the leather. I tried dealing with FlatRate about this and after many calls I got nowhere. They offered me $180. The replacement of the piece that was damaged is about $3500, and they offered me $180!! Im just so disgusted by these guys..they have no sympathy and no remorse. Its all about dollars and cents. I called my account manager (Adam Robb) for help but it got me nowhere. Then I tried moving up the ladder and finally spoke to a manager Brittany Tovar and pleaded with her to do the right thing. She said that since I didn't insure the item, that's all they were required to give me by law, and that's all they would do. I asked her to at least reimburse me for my move and she made it seem like that was an insane request. Her assistant even told me to bring them to small claims court, which I thought was kind of funny. Anyway, you would think that a professional moving company would know that you need to wrap delicate furniture in blankets, and that if they didn't take all measures to protect your items, they would at least try to do the right thing and make it up to you. Instead these guys just really seemed to not care, and were only willing to do the bare minimum required by law.

Insurance a Scam.

I moved with Flat Rate and took out Insurance and they broke two items one of which is an antique and a family heirloom. They movers were kind, but the company has decided that they will offer an insulting amount. It seems that taking insurance with them is a scam and only adds to their revenue. I have asked for an appeal which I am sure they will come back with another insulting amount. When I called they said you should have read the policy. I asked the agent if the insurance was theirs or an outside and he assured me it is Chubb. So it is my fault in trusting them. I have learned and can not reccommend then on any basis. I am only happy they did not break any items of real value or I would really have an issue.
