Dumbo Moving and Storage

This company gave us a low estimate, around $600 ~ $700 at the end of July 2000. Then on the moving day, they asked for an additional $700 because "the bed is too difficult to take apart". They said if we refused to pay, they would just leave. We had lease contracts and service elevator reservations with the place we are moving to and moving from. Thus, we had no choice but to pay the ransom fee. The bed is just a regular West Elm bed. Beware, do not use this company!

Move size: Studio Service cost: $1400

TLDR: They broke one of only 5 pieces of furniture I was moving and refused to compensate me more than 1/3 of the value of the item (which seems to be a trend looking at some other reviews).

I moved many of my belongings myself for this move, hiring Dumbo Moving to move only my largest pieces of furniture, as I had many fragile items that I wanted to ensure did not get broken in a large moving operation. In the end, along with a few miscellaneous boxes the movers only had to move 5 pieces of furniture. The entire cost of the move itself was only $345 before tip and the piece itself was worth $300, meaning that the piece that was broken was worth almost as much as the entire cost of the move. The movers also informed me that the company insists on a 20% tip ($70 for my move) after they had broken my item.

When I contacted their claims department I was told that I had not purchased the premium insurance and so my piece would be valued at 60 cents a pound. I informed them that I had attempted to contact the insurance company and had been unable to because the number listed did not work. They ignored this and refused to budge on their offer.

The saddest detail is that I had moved this piece before using a TaskRabbit and there were no issues and not a mark on the piece. I believed I was hiring professional movers to do a task that I had seen executed smoothly by an amateur.

All in all I will not be using Dumbo Moving again and will encourage people I know to avoid them.

A very unprofessional company that clearly has no idea how to do a good job since giving a completely different quote when first contacted and later on added hundreds of dollars to the total. And the person I communicated was definitely not an experienced representative and stated when i asked why the charge changed "this is not a bazaar in Bangladesh" ?? I was hoping they were a professional moving company in NYC but with that kind of answer I am convinced they are far from professional and I would not ever use or recommend them,

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1045

We paid DUMBO thousands of dollars to pack, move, and unpack our home during a renovation, plus monthly fees for storage. The company did not deliver thousands of dollars worth of goods when they finally returned with our things - fine china, a desk chair for a home office, a high-end vacuum, costly kitchen appliances. Not only did the company have complete responsibility for our things, but they charged us for every step of the way. When we reached out about the loss - with a police report - they didn't even bother to file an insurance claim. They offered us $100. Insulting, irresponsible, negligent, dishonest. Disgusting.

Note that we tipped the movers highly for their hard work, bought them food, water, etc.

STAY AWAY. I would NOT wish using this company to move on my worst enemy. Booking them for your move will make your move stressful.

1. Their Google Ad says they charge $250 for 2 Movers, 3 Hours. When I got on the phone with them, they said they didn’t know what I was talking about and it’s actually $400. Then, when they arrived to my house they tried to tell me I have too much stuff and it’s going to be an extra $700. They wanted literally $1,100 from me to move from a 1 bedroom apt to another 1 bedroom apt. When I tried to discuss this issue with them, they were disrespectful - screaming at me and speaking down to me. This company is run by the evilest of evil people on the planet.

2. Their movers are dirty and smell awful upon arrival. They stink, are wearing clothes they look like they rolled out of bed in, and are just gross. On top of that their rude and nasty. A true representation of what this company stands for. You will feel so gross when they leave and your home will stink.

3. They were careless with my furniture. Kicking stuff around with their feet and hitting stuff against walls.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO MOVE. I had to use another company to move the stuff this ridiculous company did not take. Imagine having to leave half of your stuff at your old apartment and booking a 2nd company to come get it because the first company wants $700 additional dollars for a few shopping bags.

INSTEAD of use DUMBO Moving, Use: SIMPLY MOVING OR ROADWAY MOVERS. I ended up using Simply Moving and a friend of mine used Roadway recently. Much better experiences than the outright scam Peter and his co-conspirators are running at Dumbo Moving. Save yourself the headache and filthy experience.

We hired Dumbo moving and storage to move furniture from our home in Westchester, NY to a local storage unit at a very competitive price.

Dusan Jelic (Van 68), our assigned mover, was timely, courteous and very professional. He worked efficiently but carefully, and the transportation of our items to the storage unit was seamless. Dusan went above and beyond to make sure we were completely satisfied with all aspects of the move. He took photographs and kept us updated regularly. I highly recommend this moving company, and if you are lucky to get Dusan you will be guaranteed an amazing moving experience!

Okay let’s get into this review:

First and foremost DO NOT USE DUMBOOOO NOOOOO!!!!

Hired them to move a 4 bedroom home from Queens, NY to Central Florida. They quoted a decent price and were supposed to come out a few days before the move date to see everything we had to be precise of the price. That’s where the scam starts because on the day of the move you’re stuck with them right?

Okay so when we called and set everything they NEVER told us that every single item except furniture HAS to be in a box. We have lived in that home for almost 20 years. Every single item in a box would have been nice to know prior to moving day.

So the movers themselves, had such a bad attitude, very rude was complaining so bad in another language I believe Syria or Russian not sure. They were complaining about how much stuff it was and things are not on the list so forth and so on.

So Katherine handled our contract and we paid for an ADDITIONAL move. So the second move they didn’t want to take everything again! They complained too many boxes not enough room in the truck and they had another pickup. I have a 4 bedroom house!!! I get a truck to myself for all my stuff!! Once again with Katherine we had to set up a THIRD move.

The third move was set on the closing day of my house. Those movers didn’t want to go in the basement and retrieve the rest of the boxes and they LEFT IT!

Katherine swore up and down she would arrange another pickup have an invoice with the pickup day. NO ONE SHOWED UP!!! Now her and Matt are ducking my mothers calls and messages so we had to hire another company for 30boxes.

To top of the horrible experience IN THE CONTRACT IT STATES THEY WILL DISASSEMBLE AND REASSEMBLE THE FURNITURE!!! Out of all these moves all of movers REFUSED to assemble the furniture!!!

They are a scam. We were quoted almost 4 thousand dollars. We wind up paying double that amount.

The condition of some of my items were AWFUL! Stuff broken, boxes upside they don’t care they throwing your stuff around without a care. They are worst than USPS!!!!

DO NOT HIRE THEM DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! They are unprofessional to the upmost!!!!
