Dumbo Moving and Storage

Alex and his team were great in helping me move my 1 BR from Boston to NYC! In and out within less than an hour, and they were able to accommodate my needs by picking up the furniture and boxes (including disassembling my storage bed) at the end of the month and delivering it to my new place 2 days later. Very professional, efficient and I felt safe. They also didn't collect gratuity until the complete job was done and it was the same team for both pickup and drop-off and that was appreciated. Reading reviews and hearing about moving scares in general worried me that because of the 2 day delay I wouldn't get all of my things the day that I moved, but luckily Alex's team communicated well and they were a bit late (~2/3 hours) beyond the moving window but given how busy this moving period is, I completely get it and it was not a problem because I was flexible. Would highly recommend, great job!

With summer time approaching I am sure many people out there are starting to look for moving companies. There are endless options, do yourself a favor and DONT USE DUMBO for any reason.

PLEASE do not put yourself in the cross hairs of Dumbo. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS. These people have no values, greed is all they know.

This company has no shame.

The crew that packed our goods was a very nice group, however they refused to wear masks due the heavy exertion they faced with moving. They said they were not mandated by their employer to wear them, a prime example of Dumbo's practices as a business.

Once they finished packing it would be almost 5 months until I saw my goods again as Dumbo was paid to store them on a pallet in a climate controlled unit. When they were delivered them they were caked in mold, almost all of my furniture was DESTROYED, almost $20,000 in damage. The crew told me when they showed up to get the goods at the "climate controlled warehouse" they were just sitting on the floor. Clearly they ran out of storage space and tossed my goods wherever they had room.

I am an understanding person, I realize the flood of business that resulted in the exodus from the city. Luckily, everything that was destroyed was replaceable. I was reassured by the claims manager, Anthony Callazo, that Dumbo "always does the right thing" in these unique situations. Unfortunately for me I believed him.

I was unable to move into my home for several weeks since we had no furniture, Since mold was involved I was instructed by Anthony to dry clean all of my cloths and that I would be reimbursed for this expense, almost $2k. Didnt happen. On moving day the crew crashed the truck into my walkway, I was told to get it fixed and that I would be immediately reimbursed, another $500 out of pocket, Guess what didnt happen?

The next 3.5 months were utter hell with being bounced from Anthony to their insurance broker to their insurance agency and back to good old Anthony. We had an accepted settlement, which was broken within the hour. Then I was offer a few hundred dollars on a $20k claim. I was told they paid the wrong claim, then I was told they didnt have any money to pay my claim (which was the move comical response of all time), then I was told the insurance company would pay me. Round and round we went.

They REFUSED to take responsibility and pay my claim. Mistakes happen, but Dumbo will not own up to them. They do not care about their customers, they know they can treat people this way because consumers have limited ways to fight back. They say this was a "one time thing" and move on. It is shocking to me that people like this exist in the world.

NOTE, if you end up filing an insurance claim I would do the exact opposite of anything they ask you to do. Their insurance broker intentionally mislead me a number of times, including advising me to not reply to offers to settle being made by Dumbo and that all offers needed to be made by the insurance company. The broker is shady and morally corrupt.

They are the worst company to use. Give you one price then hold your items until you pay more then the original price. Workers very nasty and rude. Had only one person unloading 3 rooms of furniture. Other man sat in the truck. They do not give full information upfront. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE SCAMMING PEOPLE. I CANNOT SAY IT ENOUGH DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. IEILL BE LOOKING AT LEGAL HELP WITH GETTING MY MONEY BACK. ALSO THIS WAS DONE TO MY DAUGHTER A SINGLE BLACK WOMAN

My grandma past from COVID-19 so I had to go to New York and clean her house. Not thinking cause I was stressed I pick this company and didnt read reviews it was a 4.3 then going down fast as it should . I paid 1800 first then it went up to 2100 I read the reviews cause they forgot my address wasn’t on time and I saw the same thing happening so I stopped everything. I called them and told them to cancel they started calling my phone texting me threatening me that I was not going to get my money back if I canceled. They had done no work yet cause the forgot my address twice so I figured getting my money back would be no problem. This happened in April they still fighting my bank not to give me back my money for work they didn’t do run it’s a scam scam scam

They were speedy and careful at the same time. Efficiency at its best. They used saran wrap and blankets to protect my things. They dismantled my bed and reassembled it perfectly. They didn't require anything of me while packing up my belongings. They quickly unloaded my belongings and asked me where I wanted each piece. They moved to a one-bed apartment in about three-hours. I would recommend them any day. Their matching t-shirts were the cherry on top. Awesome job!

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A SINGLE WOMAN!

I used this moving company in January and had the worst moving experience of life, compounded by horrible customer service and harassment when I asked for a refund. My move was scheduled from 9-11 am. They didn't show up until after 1pm, demanded an extra $450 cash to complete the move, didn't "complete" the move until almost 10 p.m. and I was only moving to a building 5 minutes away. I am reporting them for consumer fraud and working to have them banned from my building because I truly believe that once they realize you are a woman alone, they take advantage of the situation to price gauges, even when they are in violation of a signed contract and then don't have the decency to offer even a partial refund when you've been price gouged and should get a full refund (mind you, I was willing to let the movers keep the $50 cash that they demanded, I just wanted a refund of my contract price post-deposit.). Don't be fooled by how friendly and helpful they seem when convincing you to book with them, using Dumbo moving will be one of your greatest regrets both personally and financially.

I went back and forth with the supposed manager trying to reach a fair resolution and he didn't care at all, just wanted my money and even lied to my bank when I contested the charges. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
