Dumbo Moving and Storage

Our tenants moved out of the rental unit and used Dumbo Moving & Storage for their move. The crew from Dumbo Moving & Storage caused $16,000 in damages to the newly stained floors of the building entry and the apartment, the walls - including a custom tile wall. It's been 2 months since we initiated the claim with their insurance company and we just keep getting the run around.

Dumbo Moving & Storage is unprofessional, unresponsive, and avoids accountability for their errors. Do yourself a favor and book a different company.

NIGHTMARE of a move with Dumbo.

If I could give zero stars I would!

DO NOT USE THEM!

They are more expensive then any other movers i chose them thinking at least I would get good service....

Boy was I WRONG!

1. They kept adding hidden fees that added to well over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. (All after my stuff was already on the truck).

2. The movers scratched and damaged my furniture. (They told me it was the movers first week on the job)

Why would Dumbo hire inexperienced movers???

3. THEY LEFT WITHOUT FINISHING THE JOB!

My children had to sleep on the FLOOR.

Dumbo decided to leave before setting up the beds and children cribs. (They are supposed to set it up according to the contract).

4. I WAS BULLIED VIA HARRASMENT TEXTS AND CALLS from Matt and Vlad from management and the driver any time i brought up a concern.

5. They delivered on my Friday night (my sabbath) when we agreed in contract not to.

6. I had a very small move and it took them over 13 hours to complete since the movers didn't want to work!

6. THEY LEFT MY STUFF IN THE STREET UNATTENDED! They apparently had somewhere more important to be during the move!

Maybe some of my stuff were stolen!

7. They left after the move with their moving equipment in my house making a huge inconvenience for me and my family. It's all still in my house.

8. When I tried calling for customer service they didn't care and simply told me to deal with it.

9. When packing my furniture they put tape directly on all my things now I have duct tape glued to all my furniture!

I WOULD NEVER ADVISE SOMEONE TO USE DUMBO.

DO NOT USE THEM.

BETTER USE ANYONE ELSE.

TRUST ME.

IT IS SIMPLY NOT WORTH IT IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG THEY WILL THROW YOU DIRECTLY UNDER THE BUS!

I have video documentation of all the above.

I never want someone to have the experience my family went through.

DO NOT HIRE. I never write reviews but I wish someone had given me this warning before I hired Dumbo. They refused to wrap my furniture, breaking thousands of dollars worth of my items. When I tried to wrap them myself, their movers yelled at me and unwrapped my items. When my items came back to me broken, their customer service could not have cared less or been ruder. They offered me a few hundred dollars to resolve over $7,000 in destroyed furniture. Not to mention they didn't offer me insurance until after my items were moved. Because my items had been stored for several months between moves, Dumbo's own movers who moved my furniture into my new apartment said they were shocked at how poorly Dumbo treated my items. Terrible service, even worse customer service. Some of the rudest individuals I have ever come into contact with, and that's saying A LOT. Spare yourself having your personal items destroyed and months of arguing with despicable people, hire literally ANYONE else.

As I write this review, I'm shocked and upset that it's come to this. Dumbo movers used to be the absolute best, but I recently moved with them in Sept of '21 and the experience from the boxes to the actual move was horrendous. I assumed I was going to receive bins to move, and after calling to check on that, the rep accused me of "putting words in his mouth" and said "well at this point you need to find and pack boxes for your move tomorrow and you can't cancel or we will have to charge you". After much scouring, I was able to pull it together and find boxes to pack but then on moving day, the movers showed up, demanded a 20% cash tip before starting work on anything and broke a 1 year old $2,000 West End Table. The move was a 10 block move, so no bridges or tunnels were crossed, so I'm really confused how this could happen. When reaching out to the movers, I was told that I didn't select insurance and the best they could do was to provide $200 which was 1/10 of the table's value. What's the point of paying over $500 to move 10 blocks if you're not going to be liable for the damage your movers make?! I followed up with the company and have since been ghosted by the customer service representative handling my "case". Super unprofessional and hire at your own risk! If they break anything, they'll not be liable for it.

Hired this Company to move me from Philly to North Carolina. These ppl came to pick up my stuff never provided a list of what they took. Original quote was $1235 to pick up my beds, TV’s boxes and 20 storage bins. When I returned to my storage unit, it was still full. They quoted me an additional $2790 to pick up the rest. I do not even have furniture all clothes & minor items. If I could give zero stars I would!! They stole stuff, broke stuff etc PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Our rate changed a few times as well, the 1st movers sat my belongings in a pit of garbage…YES you read that correctly. All FRAGILE STUFF arrived damaged or in pieces, some boxes were opened and resealed, my Dad’s memorabilia yankee bat was stolen as well as a pair of brand new sneakers (who knows what else as I’m still going through things) Then they harassed us for a tip after charging us extra last minute drastic fees (I feel as if that’s why the stuff was stolen) I work to hard and we as customers put our trust in people of service to actually service us and not take advantage….please take your money elsewhere because DUMBO MOVING SEEMS TO BE RAN BY PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST PLAIN DUMB!

Worst moving company!

Don’t use them! I was warned by a friend not to use them and I made a huge mistake by using them! Take my word.

The movers were extremely lazy and slow. It took them 5 hours to only halfway empty out a small apartment. I moved recently with a different company and it only took an hour and a half. The workers were lazy, dumb, obnoxious, and disrespectful.

They refused to figure out how to take my couch down the steps. I paid for the movers to do the job but instead I had to call friends last minute to help me compensate for the workers laziness. Myself, my wife and my young children had to help bring things out to the truck since the guys were so slow and obnoxious.

This company is full of sleezy, money hungry, obnoxious people. You have to literally specify every item as basic as a garbage can and laundry basket or they won’t allow it on the truck.

Since they refused to take all my items I had to pay for a second truck to come a couple days later to take the remaining items. And I had to pay for it! Obnoxious sick people in this company!

The truck arrived hours later than what we arranged.

When we finally got to the new house, the movers refused to bring the items passed the entryway of the house- all beds , mattresses, dressers, clothing were all dumped at the front door. They had no mercy when we begged them to bring the crying children’s beds upstairs and have them assembled so that the children can go to bed before midnight. All we got was attitude and a NO for an answer. Disgusting people!

We were on the phone with Dumbo Movers representatives the entire day but they all play the same sick game with their customers.

Their advertisement on their vans says “have babies and leave the move to us” wow are they the opposite of that! They made the move for our young family such a stressful experience.

Expect a move with Dumbo Movers to take double the amount of time, double the amount of money and double the amount of frustration.

Every step of the way with Dumbo movers has been a nightmare

Take my word and never use Dumbo Movers!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1600

The worst company I've ever dealt with. The quote will be excellent, but the price will be doubled once the movers arrive. There is deceit, unreliability, unprofessionalism, and conniving on their part. Their best strategy is to get the deal, but once they have your items, they double the price. No matter how much you paid for something, if they break it, they will offer you $100. That's why they're the worst. This company has these two guys, Jay and Dan; stay away from them.

Reasons I’ll never book with Dumbo again and you shouldn’t either:

1. My dad watched them literally throw a bunch of my stuff onto the truck (before they realized that he was with me).

2. The day before my move, they said it should be delivered by 3 pm to my storage unit upstate. The day of the move, they told me that they were going to do another move before delivering my stuff because someone else in the area was also moving upstate.

3. I got a call at 5 pm informing me that the truck broke down and they were waiting for a new one in the Bronx. Then they still had 2 apartment’s worth of stuff to load onto the other truck before making the 2 hour drive upstate.

4. A few minutes later, I got a call asking if I could take delivery the following day between 11-1 because they wouldn’t make it to my storage unit in time to finish by 10 pm, when they close.

5. I got a text message the next day saying that delivery would be between 8:30-9. I got a text at 9 letting me know they were 20 minutes away.

6. My boxes piled in the truck were crushing each other, including boxes marked FRAGILE at the bottom of piles.

I had 3 large boxes with arrows printed on them and fragile stickers indicating which way was up. They were all tipped on their sides in the truck.

7. I told them to put aside my computer chair and a box of furniture protectors I bought to protect items in storage. They both got buried.

8. Despite not holding up their end of the deal, and even though some of my moving fees were shared with another person (all fees associated with traveling upstate), the company only offered a 30% discount on my NEXT move, despite knowing that I’ve left the city. And as if I’d ever book them again.

Horrible experience with this moving company. Gave me a quote from NY to Texas, then when they came to pick up my items charged me double. After 14 days waiting for delivery the 18 wheeler couldn't drive in my complex and charged me extra $600 like it it was my fault for not being a professional driver because my apartment leasing agent said they never has issues with 18 wheelers driving in and out of this complex. Dumbo was extremely rude and threatening me they will leave my items on the street if I didn't pay right away. Well this was so inconvenient and I was frustrated after making the payment the drivers had to rent a uhaul just for few hours a very small one and at the truck stop they transferred my small one bedroom items and once it arrived I had a broken bookshelf, a broken bathroom Metro Shelving Unit and also a broken lamp. All had to be trashed. Dumbo was rude and did not make any payments. Costumer service on phone will not return your calls or email and you have to read all the fine small prints at bottom. That's how they get you. Please don't use these people you rather go with 2 men and a truk. Dumbo is only a company after your money with no concern for consumers.
