If 0 stars was an option, I would have made that choice. It all started with Dave the salesman was very rude and pushy. Bear in mind that you have to pay for all of your services IN FULL before the day they show up. I was uncomfortable but they're like the Russian mob and they strong armed me. I told Dave that I needed items moved from one storage unit to another(in the same building) and he charged me extra for it but the guys picked up the stuff on my list and took off. I explained to Dave that I am pregnant and I cannot life anything heavy and I was shocked to see that the guys pulled all my things out of the storage unit(couches, entertainment centers, etc) and left me with all that stuff to move on my own. I got "lucky" and found someone else that I could pay to move my things into the storage unit. They are the WORST company to use. The 3 guys showed up and two of the younger guys spent most of their time on the phones(on social media..) They were supposed to set up my bed at the new location-of course you know they didn't. I had to get neighbors to set up my bed for me(remember, I can't lift anything heavy smh) Cheaper is not always better. I'd rather pay a few dollars more for less stress than deal with them again. My mistake was that I checked the reviews after I made my deposit. Dave pressured me to make the deposit right away as the quote was getting ready to expire(so he says..) if you read this review before they attempt to pay to have it removed.. RUN!! I promise you, they are nothing but deceitful people. And they weren't willing to refund the money for moving my items from one unit to the other. They are low down dirty crooks. Walk right on by them..

This is probably the worst company I have dealt with . They did not show up and on calling the person said that I booked for saturday and not friday. On sending him the mails stating the change of date and also pointing out the coi and payment links highlighting the correct date. The person on call continued to be extremely rude. They immediately refunded the money. but its not about the cost, especially for working professionals who leave work to be available and many move on their last day.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! We were paying by the hour and the movers deliberately took advantage and were extremely inefficient. They wasted so much time- it was so painful to watch. They didn't use a dolly and literally moved one box at a time down the hallway to the elevator. My husband and I did a ton of the moving ourselves just to keep things going- it was an exhausting day and what should have taken 3 hours (and it really could have!) ended up taking 7. What should have been a 3 hour drive to our new home took 1.5 hours because the truck driver didn't know that he couldn't go a certain route, then he realized too late that he couldn't fit under an overpass and had to backtrack. When we got there, the couch did not fit through the door initially and the two movers just stood around scratching their heads for too long (like 20 minutes, not even trying other options) until I directed them as to how to maneuver (not that complicated and I'm not the professional! The company sent me a link to pay the additional fee and the movers wouldn't open the truck at our new place until I had paid it- I felt very pressured into paying it. Then I got another link to pay an additional $100, which I didn't pay immediately. When I called two days later to contest this, Alex, the person I spoke to, was extremely difficult about it and told me to take it up with my bank.

 DO NOT USE DUMBOI used Dumbo Movers for a short move from Manhattan to Jersey City in September 2011 with storage for one day in the middle of the pick-up and delivery. 1. Movers showed up 1 hour late2. One experienced guy, 2 semi-new and one who had never moved anything in his life3. Despite their policy for newbies not touching and packing a customer's items, the new guy packed my things and did a horrible job4. Took twice the time to pack because the new people didn't know what they were doing5. When my items were dropped off, almost every single furniture item was broken - bed headboard was smashed in 5 places, two dining table chairs legs were broken, remaining chairs and the table were badle scratched, broken china and so on.6. So so so unprofessional - their delivery crew, upon seeing all the damage, openly spoke about how the packing crew were low-quality and careless!! Their own people bad-mouthing each other7. Didn't help me one bit to file a claim and despite sending their claim company 25 photos of all the damage and very detailed letter about how things were handled, I got NOTHING in compensation because they were not liable and I didn't have insurance!!When you see so many 5 star reviews - please think about it for a second and recognize that they are fake! Do not use Dumbo ever..PLEASE.

I hired Dumbo for a long distance move. Dumbo picked up my stuff and seemed to wrap everything up nicely. Then Dumbo insisted that I pay a 2% surcharge for using a Visa card or 4% for American Express. I complained but Dumbo refused to move my stuff if I didn't pay the surcharge and I was not in a position to argue. I later found out that this is against both Visa's and American Express' policies.

But the trouble did not end there. When my stuff was delivered it was damaged. All of the furniture was banged up, scratched and nicked. The glass in my picture frames was broken. Dumbo failed to deliver some of my stuff and they sent me someone else's stuff!

Dumbo then directed me to their "insurance" adjuster who informed me that it's not really insurance and he would pay pennies on the dollar. Overall, there was several thousands of dollars of damage and Dumbo offered me $120!

Dumbo never did come and pick up the stuff that didn't belong to me and according to them it contained someone's wedding photos and sentimental jewelry. They actually expected me to send it to them at my expense and threatened to send the police to my home if I didn't!.

Overall Dumbo is a very bad company. Moving is a stressful experience. Dumbo made it 10 time worse. Don't be fooled by their overly friendly salesman Danny.

I hired Dumbo to move me from NYC to Philadelphia June 2014 early summer ($915.00). The apartment I moved into had one full set of stairs to my apt. The movers started complaining right away about the heat and the stairs. Before even trying to move my things in to the apt- they said my 84 inch Macys' Remo couch ($778.00) would not fit up the stairs nor would it fit through the door. I even signed a waiver (per Dumbo's management) and an $75.00 additional charge if  they would attempt to move the couch up the back yard stairs up to my deck through my bedroom. The movers refused to try. Ultimately, they left my couch in the basement of the apt building filled with garbage and mice. And after they left my couch in the basement the movers ask me for gratuity ($100.00). Spoke with Dan (manager) and their claims dept. , regarding insurance claim options the next day. Claims dpt gave me the run around about submitting a claim. I am now fighting with Dumbo, and Visa to get my money back for the move.Dumbo even had the nerve to submit a FRAUDULENTLY SIGNED FORM BY MYSELF to Visa stating I waived any claims and liability for the couch!! Do NOT use these people!!Kyra S.

I highly recommend against anyone using Dumbo. While their staff seemed nice and the process was fine to get the move arranged - as soon as there is any problem they will screw you over. In the process of my move the movers disassembled a number of my items of furniture because they were going into storage for a short time,. But when they completed the move, they had managed to lose the pieces for reassembling my bed. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, mistakes happen, and asked them to simply get replacement pieces and finish the job later in the week. Despite several promises to turn up, the staff never showed, and then stopped responding to. The headquarters staff didn't care about the problem and offered me a meager $50 for my bed which is still in pieces in my bedroom and cannot be reassembled. They failed to communicate or respond to my emails and return phone calls, and all in all I can say it was not worth the risk to give these cowboy movers any money or trust them with your moving job.

I'm usually not one to rate companies, but Lord do these guys deserve it.This is the worst company I have ever worked with. Period. If anyone thinks I am joking feel free to reach out directly and see firsthand how they treat their customers when they file for claims. I paid around $1K total for a move to a storage facility and then to my new apartment, and somehow these guys lost the back legs of my bed in the process. The moving crew had already asked for a 20% tip before they even began to set up a bed that is now unusable. When I explained my situation and filed for a claim, I was sent the same generic response three times in a row. They only offered to pay $50 for damages - if you look at other complaints this is what they offer for any type of damage- even though I have explained repeatedly that I just want to be able to sleep in my own bed and I just want help finding my spare pieces or a reimbursement for damages (by the way if you take them up on the offer, you are not allowed to take it to social media, so that explains their inflated score). I genuinely would not recommend this moving company to my worst enemy.

I've moved several times in my life.. and this was by far the worst. It was wrong from start to finish. The movers went to the wrong address to Brooklyn instead of Manhattan because the moving company gave them the wrong address! Unheard of. And when I called them out on it - he had the nerve to tell me - "may be I gave the wrong address, may be you did". Really? I hadn't even talked to the movers until they texted me.

And when they said flat rate, does not depend on the hours, I should have checked more. They were terribly slow and inefficient than other movers I've seen. Usually movers come with a lot of appropriate equipments to get the job done quickly - here they had regular screwdriver, not even an electronic screwdriver. They took almost 4 hours to just move out stuff from a 1 person 1 bedroom manhattan apartment. I have reasonable amount of stuff, definitely not a lot.

The mover started complaining about the bed having a headboard, sideboard, baseboard! and then about having stated 20 boxes and having 22 boxes! and I ended up paying more to just not have to deal with their constant complaining. Moving is hard and stressful - especially when doing it alone. The least they can do is not make it worse.

I couldn't move on the scheduled day because they were late and had to pay for another 2 days of overnight storage. And every time you've to deal with the moving company - it's a nightmare the way they talk / handle things. Ivan / Hugo could take lessons in customer service & how to talk to customers.

The only good thing in the entire experience and the 1 star is for one boy who constantly was trying to make sure everything was smooth and easy and went above and beyond to make sure I didn't have to lift a finger.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! they are extortionists. They held my belongings hostage until I paid an extra large amount of money the day of the move or else they were going to leave all my belongings right there on the side of the road. Obviously I paid it, and when I looked through all of my things, about 25% of the breakable items, were broken. This company is full of crooks. If you end up using them, and risking it, make sure all correspondence is in writing because they are criminals.

I had an initially great experience with Dumbo! I moved out of my apt on 12/31, and they easily arranged storage and a move to my new place, since it wouldn't be ready till 1/4. I requested the same truck that moved me out (Truck 23) because they were great. A different truck arrived on 1/4 (Truck 21). When we were just about done with the move, I noticed a section of my closet wasn't right, and I asked the mover about it and he told me that I was correct and one of my wardrobe boxes (box 32) was missing, and that they would go to the storage unit and find it. I tipped both movers generously, and signed the paperwork, but noted prominently and multiple times that I was missing said wardrobe box. I spoke with the company and they assured they would look for it, and if they could not locate it, that I would be compensated. Fast forward and they say my box has not been found, and went back on their initial statement and now say that the box was delivered with my move and was never actually lost, and offered me $50 for the inconvenience. The knobs for my nightstand are also in that box, so I have an unusable nightstand and thousands of dollars worth of clothes missing. They have not contacted me and refuse to call, will only communicate through e-mail in broken English. This is completely unacceptable and they will be hearing from a professional on my behalf.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $400

While the booking process was very smooth, the estimate I was given was just a starting number. They told me they had to add a flight of stairs to the estimate, since the building ground floor is elevated. Random but fair I guess. The 40% increase in price came when they couldn’t park near my building but instead had to park a little further away, which to them justified increasing the quote from 340 to 640. The movers told me that I could either call the company and get a higher quote AND have to give them a much higher tip or just give the movers cash on the spot to make it all go away. Notice that by then we’re in front of my building and I’m at their mercy if I want to move that day. I called the company and eventually agreed for an increase of “only” $200. The movers on top of that were simply obsessed with their tip. Kept asking about them. Pointing out it should be 20% of the (now increased) price. Insisting they should be in cash.
I felt like I was a hostage. By the end I simply paid them to make it all go away.

You have better moving options than hiring this company. Do so.

June 26 - We waited for 3 hours for a crew to come pack our apartment. No one came. All of the paperwork I received confirmed June 26 as the packing date. When I called, I was told George entered the date wrong in the system and that the entire move would be done the next day. This was not what I paid for, but I was told nothing could be done.

June 27 - 7 am: the 3 person crew arrived on time; however, they seemed surprised to learn that they had to pack the entire apartment. We had to explain everything that was already spelled out in paperwork.

Later that afternoon, the crew said that George did not list several items on the inventory, even though none of these items were new and were present in the apartment during the original video call / quote process. George said he needed to charge us an extra $150, which I refused as it was his error, not ours. Marko took the charge off. The crew could not fit everything on the truck, even despite us removing the couch, a dresser, 2 bookshelves, and the twin bed frame from the move altogether. I was told the move could be completed in 1 trip, so I was very frustrated that the crew had to make 2 trips and extend the move even longer.

6:30 pm: Drop-off at the new apartment began. The crew unloaded all of our belongings on the street and sidewalk and blocked the neighbor’s driveway and steps by doing so. The neighbor complained to us. They littered water bottles and paper towels all over the sidewalk and did not clean up. (Our neighbors cleaned up after them, and what they did not pick up, I--8 months pregant--did.) The moving crew tore bedbug encasements on the king box spring, broke 2 picture frames, smashed an espresso maker, and broke an antique tumbler passed down from my grandmother. 3 boxes were labeled, but none of the others were, so we have no idea where anything is. Several perishable items from the fridge were packed in an unmarked box and we had to throw them out because they spoiled overnight. We are not done unpacking so I am not sure if that is the extent of the damage. I will send pictures when I know the full extent of the damage. (Update: At least 1 box with things from our young daughter's room never made it off the truck into our apartment.)

During this time, 1 of the crew had to return to the original apartment to get the rest of our belongings. My husband helped him complete the move since at that point it was 9:30. My husband should not have had to move anything since we paid the company for this service, but he felt he had no other choice given that 1 man was working on his own. This slowed everything down since that left only 2 men to carry up the all of our belongings to the new apartment.


11 pm. The move ended. We tipped the crew $200 each. The head of the crew claimed he saved us money and asked for $300 each. This turned into an argument on the street in front of neighbors’ houses. My husband eventually gave each crew member an extra $60 because he wanted to avoid a fight and conflict.

To say I am disappointed in the customer service of Dumbo Moving is an understatement. We paid for services we did not receive. Instead of making our move easy and hassle free, Dumbo moving caused me and my entire family an enormous amount of stress and chaos.

I chose this company because I thought it would be helpful, polite, and efficient experience. What I received was the opposite. 3 crew members simply were not enough people to do this job, and I found it rude and disrespectful that they tried to intimidate us into an extra tip. The truck was also not big enough to complete this job, yet another in a series of careless errors.

UPDATE: The company refunded us $550, which I do not feel began to make up for the horrible treatment by the crew, the terrible customer service, and the damages we incurred.

My moving experience with Dumbo Moving was disgraceful, and I would strongly discourage anyone from using them. Dumbo exhibited poor levels of communication and customer service from start to finish. In the early stages, my primary contact was unavailable most times I tried reaching out via phone or email. Upon moving out, the head mover was rude and uncommunicative. When reaching my new destination, the movers were 4 hours late from the time they originally communicated and there was a significant amount of damage done to 10+ of my items during the move, including expensive furniture. The insurance policy was not clearly explained -- during my initial phone call they confirmed that my items would be insured should any damage be Dumbo's fault, however it turns out the fine print is that they only reimburse for a small fraction of the damage (a few cents per pound). As a result, I received under 10% of the total value of estimated damage done to my possessions to which Dumbo was entirely to blame. When I tried to discuss with them they said that the agreements I signed specified this. The documents in question were signed day-off on a tiny device (like mail delivery people use to sign) so it was impossible to see this fine print.

My overall experience is a reflection of a poorly run organization that is dishonest and unconcerned for its customers. Look elsewhere.

Dumbo Moving and Storage were a god send during the day of the move. We were so stressed out with so much going on and they just took charge of everything and executed to perfection. The team was on time, very clear on how they were working and kept checking in with us from time to time if we needed anything else. They were very accommodating with our requests and so very courteous. Their pricing was competitive and it was their focus on customer service that won us over.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4200

They will provide a cheap quote so you will hire them then charge you hundreds of dollars on the day of the move knowing that you are stuck because you're in the middle of your moving day.

They broke several items, some irreplaceable.

They stole my Marshall speaker and then wouldn't return it until I threatened to call the police.

Management is a joke. They will defend their crew and tell you to be "kinder".

Moving is already stressful. Do yourself a favor and high a REAL moving company. It will be worth the money.

I got the best quote from This company base on my items . The crews came on time and did excellent job packing and loading my stuffs . I had few extra stuff by the end and I was willing to pay extra if the charged , the didn’t charge any penny more . The company had told me ,my stuffs would take 5-10 days to deliver to new address which was in another state . To my surprise they came way before the time frame , again the crews did amazing job . I don’t plan on moving anytime soon , but if I did , I will definitely use this company . I can’t name all of them , but the person I dealt with is called Danny , he was very easy to work with . If u need to move , ask them to talk to Danny , he is very polite , professional and flexible. Thank you Dumbo moving , for making my life less messy , my sincere thanks to all the crews who helped me .

I hired and paid this company over $2k to pack and move everything in my apartment to a new location. I live in a one bedroom apartment so they were instructed to pack up the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and one closet. These items were getting loaded into a POD to be shipped to Florida. They did not pack up anything from the bathroom, anything from the closet, most of the kitchen and much of the living room, and left a huge mess everywhere with drinks cans and gloves. When I called to report this issue, they tried to blame my super, who was on site during the move. I have texts from the super showing that he tried to contact the movers to let them know about the items they left behind and they would not respond to him. They also decided to charge me hundreds of dollars extra after the move for additional items, however, they clearly did not move these items. Some of the items I was charged extra for include a rug they left behind (which I sent them pictures of to prove they did not move it) and a headboard that I do not own. The company refuses to do anything to resolve this issue or refund me any portion and so now I am faced with having to hire another mover. Their entire customer support team instead of apologizing, refunding me or doing anything to help fix the issue, is rude, combative and tries to blame everyone else. This is a company that will lie to you to sell a product, trap you into paying for more once they have your belongings, and then will be rude to you once they have your money, regardless of the circumstance. Stay away.
