We moved on August 30, 2013 from Jersey City, NJ to Cambridge, MA. Cross country moving provided packaging of our kitchen items, various decorative pieces, paintings and furniture, as well as furniture disassembly and assembly.
I paid exactly what was on my quote (plus tips for the moving crew). The moving crew of Angelo, Carlos and a third gentleman were polite, hardworking and tireless. Everything arrived intact and they placed the furniture in our new apartment where we requested them to, and reassembled it all. It took them until 10PM to get it all done - great job!
The only complaint I would have is that they arrived an hour late on both days of our packing and the management team was not completely responsive to my calls/emails. This left us nervous about not arriving in MA on time. We were lucky that the new apartment management allowed us to use the elevators until late. I would recommend leaving plenty of buffer time for delays.
Cross country moving's quote was the lowest of all the quotes I requested in Jersey City. I highly recommend them, especially Angelo and his crew. .
The job went really well for my move in early July 2014. The movers were all very professional and helpful. The new place we moved to did not have their paperworks in place which caused unexpected delay of obtaining the keys that was out of our control. However, the movers waited patiently while the building management sorted things out. John, the leader of the movers, also the only English speaker, was very understanding and worked with us. In retrospect I'm glad that I'd requested at least one English speaking mover prior to the move. I have to give all of the movers on that day a perfect score on their professionalism and character. I'd also like to thank Carlos at Cross country moving for keeping the promise of charging the fixed rate that was agreed upon before the move. There were absolutely no hidden fees, charges or gimmicks with Cross country moving. I would definitely hire Cross country moving in the future as well as recommending it to people I know. Thank you again for your excellent service!
I must admit that this move was one of my best move. It was a true flat rate move. I gave my invenotry on the phone and got a quote in few minutes. Movers came on-time, no questions asked. My move had 1 stop for drop-off and pick-up of furniture. The plan worked 100% as expected. Megann and Dean both are very professional. I highly recomment Cross Country Moving.
My moving experience with Cross Country Moving really was incredible. Their service, both from a customer service and actual move standpoint far exceeded my expectations. My husband David was a bit worried at first reading some of the negative reviews. The were very accommodating, friendly and flexible. Our salesperson was Kerry who was very professional and helpful. He even helped us locate a suitable storage facility. Since our place was fairly large they set up an in home estimate. KC, they young fellow who came by was very well spoken and patient. He inventoried everything diligently. On moving day the movers showed up 30 minutes early. Josh, the crew lead, took his time to survey the property and fully undertstand our needs. We had a fair amount of antique furniture and, to our relief, everything was handled extremely well. The only small hickup was that a small end table got scratched. Luckily it wasn't a big deal. Compared to previous moving experiences we had this was far more pleasant. All in all we highly recommend Cross Country Moving. They really did make our move a lot more pleasant than we expected.
Liars and Thieves!!
First of all, they gave us a price of $1800 or so, it became $2600, they promised us our stuff will get to us with in 5 days, it got to us in 22 days. My husband went to his army base without his uniforms. The mover that came to give us our stuff, told me I have to pay him before I can get my stuff and if not he wouldn't give me my furniture. So I payed him, he unloaded the stuff and started to tell me I owe him more money for 2 stairs(like $300) When I didn't want to give him the money, he took my tv and left my couch out in the rain. He pulled a knife on my brother, things were very very wrong with him!
Read everything before singing anything with them they are liars. Don't believe anything they say. Must tell you I think all of the reviews are not real because there's no way it didn't happen to anyone before, it looks like they handle their business with understanding they are ripping people off.
I did extensive research trying to find a reliable company that is a carrier and not a broker to complete my move from Miami to Chicago. They all had some problems, but Cross Country Moving had a ton of good reviews, so I decided to go with them. I wanted to be moved the day after Memorial day, but the agent really insisted on Memorial day and even gave a great deal. He (Micheal Anderson) affirmed that even though it’s a holiday they work 7 days out of 7. A few days before the move he called me claiming the owner raised the prices because it’s high demand season. My price from $1200 went up to over $1500. Even though I already signed a contract, I agreed to the changes out of fear of not being able to find another company for a reasonable price. He also promised that I won’t pay more than the new contract. Of course because of the holiday they didn’t pick up my furniture until the next day. When the movers showed up they were from a different company. I was quoted 310 sf and even though my boxes were large and medium compared to the extra large ones quoted on the contract, but because my 3 piece sectional, my mattress, and the spring boxes were larger than the estimate, I had close to 400 sf and my total jumped to almost $2,200. I have tried to contact the Cross Country, but they are avoiding my calls. They sold my move to another company (even though they claimed they don’t broker off the move), and the new company says they can’t do much because my deal was with Cross Country. They suggested to wait until my move is completed to try to get any refund. I highly doubt I’ll get any refund. As a lesson, beware that even 5 star companies can scam people.
When I first decided to hire movers I requested quotes from several companies online. CCM was the first to get back to me although I do not remember visiting their website. Nikki was extremely courteous and seemingly professional when reviewing my quote. I went over all of the belongings I had. I was already all boxed up. I am a single 30 year old living in a 1-bedroom apartment. I did not have a couch, boxspring, bed frame, tv, and had gotten rid of many of my belongings. She told me I would be charged by the cubic foot of items moved. She assured me that I was well below the cubic foot limit for my price range and could have even more items without going over. I was quoted at $1,183. She told me the only way I could go over was if the movers had to park far away I would be charged an extra $75, or if I had something huge and unreported like a piano. At this time I emailed her a picture of a check for $236.77 and was told I would owe $662.96 at pick up.
The movers arrived on August 21 at 6:30pm. I had packed my belongings well but the movers were slamming boxes on the ground that I had marked as “fragile” and turning them upside down. I heard glassware crashing. The movers were spitting inside my house. They told me I “looked like I was 22 years old” and kept asking where my boyfriend was. They kept asking if I lived alone because it looked like “something else lived there.” That is none of their business but honestly I don’t know what they meant as it is a small apartment and I barely had any furniture. Maybe it was because they thought I looked too young too live there alone, or they were planning to scam me.They were upset with me that I did not have water to give them. My entire house was packed up as I am moving states. I offered them my faucet and they would not look me in the eye. They then became upset that I did not have tools out to take apart furniture. Again, everything was packed, as I am moving. I was also told this was a full-service move and they would be able to disassemble furniture. They demanded that I ask my neighbors for tools. Luckily my neighbors were home.
The movers discouraged me from having them take a family heirloom mirror, implying that it would be broken. Luckily I am driving to my new home, I hope it will fit in my car.
The movers were in my house until almost 10pm. Once everything was loaded except my $2000 mattress, they came to me and told me I “had too much stuff.” They told me they had put smaller boxes inside of larger boxes to save space, which makes not sense. They told me I had over “70 items” which is impossible. He could not explain how he had calculated the cubic feet. Also this should have been able to be discerned before loading my belongings into the truck. He came up with a number about $1,900 and could not explain how he got it. Was totally insulting saying I was just not listening.
I took a picture of the packed truck which I have attached. It was definitely not packed in order to conserve space. Nothing was secured. My mattress was laying askew. I still do not know how the cubic feet could have been calculated especially with them adding larger boxes and just insisting that I had too many number of items. The number of items should not factor into the cubic feet. It is about space and not number of things. Putting things into larger boxes would have cut down on items, but not conserved space.
I was then pressured into signing a packing list that did not make sense after the truck was closed. I could not possibly have had chance to verify the numbers after it was packed. A friend of mine arrived at this time and the movers kept asking if this was my boyfriend.
#37 & 38 listed as “Stair”. I had 1 2ft wooden stair
#41 & 47 listed as “dishpack” I do not know what “dishpack” is.
#44 is “part”, I do not know what that is
#50 is “tv stand.” I do not have a tv or tv stand
#51 & 64 are “piece.” What are those?
#53 & 54 are “table.” #58 is “base of table” and #59 is “desk of table.” I only had one table.
I was told at this time I could give the original check I had made out for $662.96 and call CCM 8/22 to figure out the rest of the payment. The movers assured me this would not delay my delivery date if I worked this out 8/22 and I would receive an eta for delivery 24 hours ahead of time.
After they left I looked up reviews online for CCM and unfortunately realized that all are 1-star reviews. I have attached screenshots of these reviews. It seems it is common place for CCM to double the quote after loading, hold belongings for ransom, and deliver things months late and broken. This is classic bait and switch which is illegal. It is not my fault if CCM gives inaccurate quotes over the phone if I report everything correctly. At the least this should be corrected before loading.
The tools that the movers demanded I borrow from the neighbors were left strewn all over my floor. They also knocked a huge chunk of my wall out which they did not mention and I have enclosed a picture of.
At 9:30am on Aug 22 CCM called me for feedback on the pick up. I told them all of these things. They told me they would be reporting to the supervisor. They told me to call customer service which I did 1 800 755 6581 ext 3. I was told I was speaking to the Customer Service Supervisor. She had the report I had given earlier. I was told it would take 24-48 hours for them to receive the report from the movers and then they would call me. At 4:30pm I received an email quote for $1,938.35. I do not know where this amount came from.
I need this resolved asap as I begin work at my new job in Pittsburgh 8/27 and need my belongings.
On Aug 23 at 9am Ashley from CCM called me and said I needed to transfer a quickpay amount of $538 or the delivery would not be scheduled. I did this immediately. She said she would talk to her managers about my case and get back to me before the close of business.
At 12:45 I was called back. CCM said that the movers are “moving professionals” and know what they are doing and know how to calculate the cubic feet. She said they used a lot of extra packing materials that they didn't even charge me for to keep things safe?? So I should be happy I wasn't charged for that. She was extremely rude on the phone said I could file a claim later. Said I would be emailed within 24 hours of the delivery and that I would owe the remainder balance in cash. She could not account for the itemized discrepancies and just repeated that they are professionals and that I had “too many things.”
If their movers are professionals and able to eyeball cubic feet, why did they not inform me before loading? Why does CCM give quotes over the phone if they aren't accurate?
I'm sure my belongings will be broken on arrival. This is a company taking advantage of individuals in a stressful and compromised situation. I will be adding to the plethora of terrible reviews, reporting to the Better Business Bureau, and the Attorney General.
On Aug 24 I called to ask what the delivery eta would be. I was told that no truck had been routed yet and they had 21 days to deliver even though Nikki told me during tghe first call it woud be delivered Aug 24/25 and I have emails stating as such. I wired over another $250 today hoping it would expedite things.even though my initial call with Nikki she said Aug 24/25.
Why would I pay $2k to live without my stuff for a month? The move is only a 4 hour drive. Right now I'm panicking because I don't want to have to buy a new wardrobe to start my new job. I'd pay just to get my stuff back. This is preying on people in vulnerable situations. I never ever ever would have booked with ccm if I knew they were going to steal my stuff for a month and leave me broke. What's the point? What's the service? I could have rented a truck and paid 2 people to move and had my stuff next day. The excuses of “this is a professional moving company we have 21 days” is unreal. The reviews online - no one knew this was going to happen.
8/24 unable to get anyone on the phone all day. Voicemailbox full.
Beware this fraudulent company!! After a terrible experience with the them, I finally received my items after 50 days for much more than the quoted price and damaged. I have filed claims against them with the BBB. In the last three months this company has changed their address from Maryland to Minnesota and now to Arkansas to avoid bad reviews. Do not use this company!! Search Cross Country Moving and Storage Rockville, Maryland to read real reviews of his horrible company.
This company, and I use that term loosely, is nothing but a bunch of con artists. First they purposefully underquote how much the move will cost and how much space your stuff will take up. They do this because if they go over the allotted space estimated then they can charge double per square foot which the movers freely admit is done on purpose to get business and to make more money. This will nearly double your initial estimate. They also will promise that they can be there within a 2 day window and then fail to do so. Once it is time for delivery however, they will hold your items ransom until you agree to pay whatever it is they want. They won't even schedule the delivery until you wire them an additional $1000 just to schedule a drop off. Then they will charge you with a "shuttle" fee because they say their driver can't park a semi near my apartment due to an inability to do so however, I had written permission from the complex and a large spot on the side of the road marked off for them that was easily parkable. Refused to come despite having no idea what the parking was like. Once I finally complained long enough and got a minor discounted fee, the workers state that they were told they have to do the shuttle fee. State that they easily could have parked a semi in the designated spot but were told only to pick up a shuttle vehicle. Then they will charge you a walking fee because it is more than 50 feet. All of this is in their contract which is extensive and full of fine print that they do not explain to you and is very misleading. Finally, after having to pay more than double what I was initially quoted I had my things. Only to find out that multiple boxes had gone missing, over half the plates and glasses were smashed, a bookshelf destroyed, and multiple pieces of furniture with new dents, cuts and scrapes. Informed the company who refuses to address your complaints and end up in a never ending call that leads to no where.
This company is fraudulent in everything that they do. They purposefully mislead consumers about pricing, availability, and customer service. Will ultimately hold your items as ransom until you give in to their payment demands. They also do an extremely poor job of moving and damaged and lost multiple items. This is by far the worst experience that I have ever had with a company. Do not under any circumstances, book this moving company. They will take you for everything they can and you will regret it immediately.
Do not trust their estimates - I paid almost triple in the end. The customer service is horrible and the managers are so rude. They are out to squeeze all the money that they can out of you while offering terrible service. Calling them is a nightmare. You get hung up on and spend forever on hold. They broke my chair and are not replying to me about getting it fixed. It was an absolute nightmare and cost a fortune.
