Stress free move? Nothing about it was stress free. The Roscoe branch might be the worst company I have ever worked with, ever. I would have been better moving by myself. Worst experience ever. The company was supposed to show up between 8-9 am. We get a call at 8:05 saying they were late and just leaving the warehouse. 10 o'clock came and still no truck. Called the company and they said they would track the truck and call us back. 10:30 still not word on the truck or call from the company. I called them back and they said they would look in to it. 11 still no word from anyone. I finally call and ask for management, but the phone operators can't actually get you in contact with anyone. They can only "leave notes." I was told my note would be marked urgent, sent up the chain and someone would contact me soon. Finally at 11:15 the truck driver calls me and tells me they are now just leaving the warehouse. No one had a clue about the 8:05 phone call. The truck finally arrives an hour and a half later and they didn't bring the right size. The driver went to get the large 26' truck but it wasn't clean. He went to the office to ask and they told him the paperwork wasn't done yet so he should take the 16' truck. Still no phone calls from management or anyone at the company. Luckily the driver was nice enough to give me his managers number. Called the manager who then called the owner, Victor. The driver said everything probably wasn't going to fit because of the smaller truck. I told Victor his company screwed up and didn't send the right truck. He told me if we needed an extra truck he would send one free of charge. He said he would talk to his driver and call me back. 2 hours later the truck is filled and there are still things in my house. The driver finally came to tell me, his manager called and said they would not send another truck because it was too late in the day. Victor made yet another promise for his company that he failed to follow through on and he was too much of a coward to call me directly to say it. He had to demand his driver to do it. I was told 4 times by 4 different people, one being the owner, I would receive a call back. No one ever called. Don't ever use this company now that they have a new owner. Even the drivers said Victor keeps screwing things up, has no idea what he is doing and only bought it to make a quick buck. Oh by the way the manager said he would try to get me a discount, the owner Victor refused to give any discount back and charged me the full price. I wish I could give them 0 stars. Also, the movers didn't wear gloves and kept taking off their masks. That's awesome when they are sweating and spitting on all of your property and you have a 2 month old daughter.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $900

My experience with College Hunks suggests that deception is part of their business model. I called the main number to arrange to have a large desk moved from my office to Goodwill. I was quoted a price of $129. Okay. When the guys show up, they say that the desk is large (extra charge) and the desk is heavy (another extra charge)--now a total cost of $380.00 -- triple the estimate. The problem here is this: I told the dispatcher (I believe in Tampa) that the desk was large and gave the dimensions; and I told him the desk was heavy. I had no reasonable choice at the time, so I paid the 380, and I gave the guys a tip (the deception isn't their fault). When I contacted the main office and talked to "sales manager" he rationalized, deflected and put me off. Said he'd call back but never did.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $417

I made the mistake of using these movers because the highly rated ones in my area were booked up at the time I needed to move. They worked by the hour, but the "manager" left early in the afternoon, and the others just stood around and smoked and talked. Here's the bottom line. Most of my furniture and household items were just DUMPED in the two car garage, filling it. Pictures and mirrors were just dumped in one big wardrobe box,

with some broken and others scratched or damaged. They charged me $4,500 to move from S. Durham, NC to N. Durham, and I had to pay an additional $1,000 to two moving companies to move things back College Hunks Movers should not have moved, bring things they forgot, and move items upstairs they agreed to move but did not move. After I discovered the condition of my furniture with scratches, broken, etc. (a sofa has 2 broken legs) I called the movers repeatedly. Not once did they return any of my calls. The manager asked my age, and when I told him 82, I really think he took advantage of me. This was one of the most horrible experiences in my life.

I wish I could put 0 stars. I think putting what went right would be easier. We were scheduled for a 1pm move but we’re given a window of 1-3pm. The movers did not show up until 5:20pm. They told us the other job was done around 3:15 and it was only around 35 minutes from our location. We were confused as to why it took them two hours to get to us. I was forced to take a day off work for this move and it ended up being completely wasted. In addition we had to kennel our dog overnight because the move went on till around 10pm. Due to them being so late we ran out of daylight and had to have them grab fewer items to speed things up. There were still things left in the apartment that we had to personally move once we found a larger vehicle. The movers did not work with urgency which made the move exceed our original 4 hour estimate. The movers seemed to switch roles periodically while the other stayed in the truck. The thought process behind that does not show professional levels in regards to moving. Additionally the movers wore no gloves or masks which seems reckless and unprofessional during the COVID pandemic. We are so disappointed because this moving company came highly recommended through a large philly based Facebook group. We called and complained during and after the move and we were promised a phone call from our areas regional manager. We have yet to receive that phone call.

Below are some of the issues we had:

After a third attempt to get ahold of a manager I’m told she’ll call me back when she gets her report done in 30 minutes 1 pm... yet again shown I’m not important. 1:45 still no call

Incredibly late, booked for 1 pm 7/24 gave us 1-3 window (???) showed up at 5:20

Moved slow

Broken glass table

Had to take day off work for nothing

Had to kennel dog

No masks or gloves

Put bags on mattresses without asking us or mentioning a fee

Professionalism severely lacking

Ended up having to leave things behind because we ran out of day light.

Previous job ended at 3:15 yet they did not arrive until 5:20. Previous job was 17 miles away.

No one alerted us they’d be late. Had to call customer service to find out why no one had shown up yet.

Not a professional job in any way whatsoever.

We were quoted at $350-400 and the total came out to $657.50.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $650

Please do not use them.

They quoted me $800, came late to the job, exaggerated everything, whereas the person taking information over the phone was given the exact number of pieces. This guy, said that it is not a 2 man job they need 2 more, and much more time. Kept increasing the price, while I had no choice, from 800 to 950 to 1100 finally they made me pay $1,300.00!!! They didn't have the correctAllenkey to open my sofa set so they were "improvising" this truth slipped out ofanother guys mouth. My sofas are literally falling apart. Since they did not screw it back properly. I had to finally tell them that now if he even thinks of increasing the price he might as well throw everything away. After 2 days they started harassing me with phone calls saying they dropped something of someone else at my place. I blocked the number and they kept harassing me using different numbers demanding I return whatever it is that they think they left at my place. It is only after I told this guy to stop harassing me and I will report them to authorities, they stopped. But my furniture is in real bad shape, I have to call someone to now screw it back properly.

They even made me sign forms saying everything was satisfactory and there is nothing I can do.

I have not been so stressed in my life as much as I have been on that day due to these people. Do yourself a favor and use some other company.

I'm not sure where these other reviews are coming from that give these guys bad reviews. Perhaps it is because these other movers are not part of the Rhode Island branch of the company. MAGNIFICENT! What a professional and friendly group of people! I called 2 other well known movers in the area and was skeptical when I got these folks because they are new. They were on-time. They were friendly. They listened to me. They were courteous.

I've never seen a crew work so hard. They were pouring off sweat during this move. My move was tough. I was moving from a 3rd floor to a 3rd floor. The second half of the move had tight corners, long stairs, and a few weird angles. It was very questionable as to whether one large heavy couch could make it at all given the dimensions (especially the last two doors at the top.) These folks made it work with only 1/2 inch clearance without any damage to that piece of furniture. Were there a few dings? Yes, but any realistic person would expect that given the difficulty of this move. One of the bosses even showed up at my move and asked how is was going because it was taking longer than expected due to the challenges getting into the new apartment. Mike, Isaiah and May were fabulous as was their boss Tom. I even got to know a bit about them and their lives outside the company but even while talking they kept working the entire time.

This isn't the first time I've used movers and I can be very picky since I have to be detailed in my profession.

I'd use the Rhode Island division again in a heartbeat so I will keep my review limited to them. They get a AAA+ rating from this lawyer!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $745

Good experience booking the job centrally , about 10 days before the required date, but execution locally is the issue. I got a call 24 hours before the job telling me they can't staff it and offered another day 5 days later. I asked if that would be guaranteed and of course it could not ! When one is moving/selling a house one cannot just cross your fingers and hope movers/trash folks just show up. Fortunately the 1-800 Junk guys could fit me in with less than 24 hours notice.
