They definitely lied when I was getting quote and when they showed up, they said I'd need to pay like $2000 more, we were able to leave things behind to fit in there and then they said their storage service is $1/sq.ft even though they told me it was 0.45/sq.ft during quoting, had to miss my work just to be on the phone and escalate with them, finally agreed at $0.5/sq.ft, thought the worst was over. But nope, we're now trying to get our stuffs delivered and it's been a month and half and still nothing. No one knows when it will get there until like 24 hours before a driver arrive, am I supposed to never go anywhere and do anything for the next year to wait for the drivers? Horrible, do not use them

My wife and I moved from the Iowa City area to Gulf Shores, Alabama. We actually hired a mover in Florida, but they subcontracted to these "movers". First off, they kept saying they needed more money. THREE times they called and said it was going to cost more money. You have to pay it, or you get NONE of your items back. Our stuff sat in a warehouse in Iowa for a week and a half before they even started moving anything. Either during the move TO the warehouse or while IN the warehouse, half of our items were destroyed, including all of my wife's crystal glassware, which was very carefully packed. Boxes were crushed (including wardrobe boxes). It seriously looked like the tines of a forklift went through them. Boxes were opened. Totes were rifled through, including one that held dirty clothes. Two collectible stuffed dogs that belonged to our young daughter were STOLEN from a completely sealed tote. Stealing toys from children! Tools were stolen. Brand new car mats from two cars were stolen. And to top it off, Carefree Mover's insurance company requires documentation that WE NEVER RECEIVED, so now they won't pay damages. STAY AWAY! Pay more if you have to upfront, but STAY AWAY from these jerks. ZERO STARS!

Worst company ever! The driver's assistant stood in my yard calling me a liar because I said he did not call me 24 hours in advance and tell me what time they were going to arrive (as per the contract) and remind me about payment. He says he did, I know he did not. He just kept calling me a liar and was screaming at me.

Then I supposedly talked to the vice president of the company who told me that he would talk to his employee (yeah, right. Like he would talk to him and I doubt he was the vp). I asked to speak to someone higher than him and he claimed that the owner/president did not talk to customers.

To pay this company I either had to give them over 1600.00 in cash or a postal money order. No other form of payment was accepted. They did not let me write out their name on the MO - they said that the company will do it. I did not get a receipt. I took pics of every single piece of paper that they handed me and that I signed.

On to my items - every single tub was broken and looked like it had been through a war! All the cardboard boxes were broken. I had a trunk that was made by some students of mine about 20 years ago that was completely broken (made of wood) and some of the things inside were broken. This trunk was packed and a blanket was taped around it by the movers. I am missing a huge canvas painting that was made for me by another student a few years ago and is irreplaceable. That was something I was waiting for more than anything else.

It is a good thing I did not have any of my furniture moved here. I imagine it would have been in pieces.

This company should not be called Carefree because they caused a ton of stress for me. There is no reason that it should have been this way. I carefully packed and had all new storage totes and boxes that should not have looked like they were thrown around.

Please do not use them if you possible. They are the worst. They only get a star so that I can post this review.

Oh and I never did get a receipt.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $3000

I hired CareFree Movers through a broker to move my furniture from Ohio To Michigan. They first quoted me $1700 after reviewing all items over the phone. On the day of the pick-up, They said they under estimated and now it cost $6400 for pick-up, storage and delivery. I had to choice but to accept since I had to be out of the apartment on the same day. several weeks later, they called me to schedule a delivery. When the driver arrived, I asked him for a final bill showing all the charges, which he refused to do!!! He demanded the money in cash and told me company policy doesn't allow them to give a final bill. When I refused to pay unless I get a bill, the driver started shouting and screaming at me and making raciest comments then he took off and left. I called the company and the broker to solve the issue, they kept insisting that I am the one to blame for refusing delivery and they will charge me a redelivery fee. I explained to them that I have no issue paying the full amount but I need a final bill, which is my right, they sent the driver back after 45 minutes He opened his truck and told me he will start unloading the furniture. He then asked me to sign the form that I am about to receive the items, which I told him I will sign it but I will not pay until I receive a final bill!!! After signing the form, he said he was told by his supervisor to leave and he took off. No furniture was delivered!!!

This is the worst experience in my life. I've tried to call them multiple times with no answer. I've reported the incident to the police, and I still don't have my furniture.

People be aware. Don't use this company and the broker "US Moving and Storage"....

Stay far away from this company. I was originally quoted 2600.00 for my move from Arizona to Iowa. After they came and did a video of what I was moving the price went up to over 5000.00. Day of loading they said there wasn’t anymore room on the truck for the remainder of my belongings and they shut the door to their truck and acted like they were going to take off with my belongings….I informed if they tried that I would call the police and have them charged for stealing my belongings. They eventually agreed to put the remainder of my things on their truck. I have been given 2 delivery dates which went past. When I was finally lucky enough to reach someone they told me my stuff was still in a warehouse in Tempe Arizona….I arrived in Iowa on the 19th of August and each time I call they say they don’t have a driver assigned to my shipment (they’re based in Iowa)…I lost the job that was waiting on me due to the fact my clothes except for the few I brought with me are still in Arizona. I’m 68 years old with a heart condition and this added stress is taking a toll on me. I have filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I have also spoke with an attorney about filing a class action lawsuit….reading these reviews and others I’ve found about this company shows they are ripping people off and needs to be dealt with. The sad part is I’ve already paid them almost 4000.00 and still owe almost another 2000.00 if and when my belongings finally make it here. I have read reviews on other sites where these people had opened sealed boxes and stole things. I WILL NEVER PAY A MOVING COMPANY AGAIN AND I HIGHLY RECIMMEND THAT PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!

I don't even what to give one star. I agree with all of the reviews I have read here. When Carefree movers came to pick up my items, the load now is bigger than the estimate I was given by the broker. ALOT HIGHER!!! I have so many complaints. COMMUNICTION. My move was scheduled to be picked up on the 15th. No one showed up, when I called they told me it was scheduled for the 16th. I have to take ANOTHER day off work now. On the 16th another no show. This was a Friday so the man actually driving the truck contacted me and told me he could not pick my items up until Monday. Guess what happened on Monday. NO SHOW. So when they finally showed up, that is when they hit you with the extra charges. I had no choice but to pay. The deposit had already been put down. I was told I would have my items as soon as possible because of the delay. Well the day came and passed. I called a week later because I wanted to see just how long it would take them to get in touch with me. Now I am told another week. I was also told by Kristian to email my complaint and they would work on some type of compensation. You see I moved this exact same load last year. It has not been touched. It went straight into storage. I used Mission Moving. The cost was half the same distance. Many of my boxes were crushed. Items broken. Just a bad experience all the way around. Please do not waste your money.

To start off they tried doubling the original quote so I had them take half of the items and am paying for storage on the other half. Delivery was almost a full month from original scheduled date. They destroyed our new dresser, entertainment center, a high end floor lamp, dishes, and failed to deliver 3 items. One of the missing items had about $3500 in electrical components packed inside. I have already sent the contract to an attorney and am considering all options. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS

I can't rate this company on our move yet because we don't have our household goods. However, I can tell you they don't answer the phone, return calls or update you on where your belongings are. It has been 2.5 weeks and we don't have any idea what has happened to our load. I can also tell you they use day laborers to load your belongings and not professional movers. They were delightful young men, but had never loaded a truck, ran out of moving blankets and took forever to load. When a box marked fragile/dishes fell in the truck, they would not allow me to open it to make sure it was all right.

USA Preferred brokered our load to this company after they promised us lots of things, one was they were not brokers! The whole moving industry seems to be a sham. They all seem to be deceitful, liars and cheats. I would recommend you go with one of the top 10 rated and one that is nationally known. Perhaps that will get you a stress-free experience, or at least allow you to get your belongings in one piece.

Why can't these review sites have a negative rating symbol? These clowns at Carefree Movers would rate a -10 stars based upon my experience with them. The only thing missing is an Elephant Act otherwise this would be a 3-ring circus!

They showed up at my move site 2.5 hours late. Then proceeded to inventory my furnishings. The next surprise came when "representative" stated that I owed them an additional $4,500 for an extra 1,000 cubic feet. My options were to leave furnishings in a home that was closing escrow in 1.5 days or pay the extra shipping fees. August 1 was the load date in Arizona with a first delivery date of August 7, 2022. Actual delivery date was September 5, 2022 with only 1/2 my furnishings.

I can tell you they don't answer the phone, return calls or update you on where your belongings are. It has been 4 weeks since my delivery date and I have no idea what has happened to 1/2 my load. The large master bedroom set was missing a top mattress, headboard and nightstand. My son's bedrooom was missing a large chest of dreawers and headboard. The kitchen table was missing a massive leg setup so it is currently unusable. The list goes on and on. They even "stole" my Callaway Driver, 3W, 5W and Spider putter from my golf bag (I didn't have extra room in my car).

The whole moving industry seems to be a sham. They all seem to be deceitful, liars and cheats. I would recommend you go with one of the top 10 rated and one that is nationally known. Perhaps that will get you a stress-free experience, or at least allow you to get your belongings in one piece. These people at Carefree Movers are liars every step of the way.
