Long-distance move from Washington, DC to Denver, CO

Buyer beware

This company is not an actual moving company- they outsource their moves. Their quotes will be much lower than other companies, and it seems great and professional and above board. But I got a call- the DAY before my cross country move- that the movers had cancelled- leaving me no choice but to pay an additional $800 for the replacement movers if I were to stick with Budget. This seems to be their gig. Everyone I spoke to, from the quote specialist to the one calling the day before my move charging me more were kind and professional- seemingly so very helpful- but this company is so very deceiving when taking your money. I did not trust them to move my things and not charge me yet again more to deliver them. I ended up paying more than twice (for a last minute move-since I had tone out of my apartment) with a reputable company. Do not get scammed like I was. Do not pay a deposit. It's not needed with movers I was told by the more reputable companies.

Long-distance move from Cleveland, OH to Canyon Country, CA

Eli

I used budget van lines who used Southwest Movers out of Las Vegas to move my household effects from Cleveland Ohio to Valencia California. Eli and his moving partner did an amazing job. They packed everything professionally and there were no damaged items when they were delivered to California. They were fast and efficient and I would highly recommend Southwest movers to anybody.

Long-distance move from San Francisco, CA to Seattle, WA

Overall great experience

I am leaving a good review as I find most people don't do that.

I booked my move 1 month out for the month of December from SF, CA to Seattle, WA. I was concerned using a broker because I read many bad reviews. I even tried to get a quote with Allied Van Lines but they were unorganized with the inventory list, tried to schedule a virtual tour, slow to respond and never picked up their phone.  With Budget Van Lines, I just went on their website and very easily added inventory. The updating part was a bit harder as I has to call or email, but it was easy enough.

From what I learned, Budget Van Lines is like Uber but for trucks. They hire drivers and then hire local movers. I got third party extra insurance in case the items were lost or stolen but tbh it was necessary and a waste of $1500 since most of our stuff was old junk except for some expensive items. I had to pay a booking fee to Budget Van Lines and put down a deposit get the name of the carrier, Southwest Van Lines. I submitted a very detailed inventory list and was on the phone with the company several times and their customer service was easy to deal with.

I didn't hear anything for a few weeks after the booking. The day before the movers arrived, I received both a call from the broker and carrier to confirm the time. On the day of the move, they both called again to confirm. The carrier arrived within the window provided. They took about 3 hours to load everything. We were charged an extra $2K on top of the quote because of items not on the inventory or carrier packing list, which I thought was fair. It seems the other bad reviews were that people underestimated their own inventory like we did. People have more stuff than they realize.

For tje delivery, the driver was optimistic about the delivery date and said it would be delivered 1.5 days later at 9am. Road conditions were bad as it had just snowed across all states, but we got lucky and the roads were clear when we were driving up. The driver did call us a few times to say he was stuck at chain control but ended up getting through. The delivery came pretty much on time. All of our stuff was delivered in good condition. Some stuff got dinged up a bit but it's expected with a move.. Only 1 small item was missing. Nothing else was damaged. Overall, we were happy everything went smoothly given it was an interstate move.

Cancellation Policy and Payment terms are different

So before I even begin, I should've read the reviews of this company before I even dealt with them. I read their contract loud and clear and when I cancel the move due to unexpected events, I was told I will not get the deposit back but will be hold for credit for one year. Let me tell you, I went in there and looked for that because I did not see it first time. And behold, there was not but they directed me to payment terms but I was focus on the cancellation policy "3 days prior but none says credit for one year". Alan then direct me to his manager who sounded like she can not speak English Nancy Moore as the Operation Coordinator. I could smell lies and lies. If I saw anything in there about credit for one year I would have apologized but no I refused to unless I am being corrected otherwise "evidence". None whatsoever. I regretted it doing business with them. I learned my lesson, read reviews before I even talk business. I also am concerned why the company is based in California but have a Nevada address and area code ? Just wondering

Long-distance move from Portland, OR to Denver, CO

Run Away, Run Away!

What ever you do don't hit the free quote button. This is a broker not a mover. You will be bombarded with calls and texts from the sleeziest third party movers out there. Don't believe the reviews, I think most of them are fake. If you try to do business with any of these third party movers you will regret it. They low ball you on the price to get you to sign the contract, then jack up the price at every step of the move. Service is non existent. Expect your move to take weeks, not days. Run Away, Run Away!

Long-distance move from Illinois to California

Move from Chicago to California - Bad Experience.

Like many, budget van lines subcontracts the actual driving to truck companies. in this case, they used Moving Central. the delivery arrived late. two bikes were bent (broken). the movers broke a baluster in the stairwell of the home we moved into; they insisted on moving in the front (instead of the back stairwell), and they marked-up the front walls heavily. when filing a claim, Moving Central required us to mail in papers to its claim agent. the agent said they would not cover the broken baluster even after we provided the $150 repair receipt. Budget said it was surprised that Moving Central would not cover damage to the home but would not help much. the claim was ongoing from september 2012 to january 2013. during discussions with Moving Central, they said they changed claim agents, so we had to start the  process over again with a 120 day possible resolution period. the bottom line  is that Budget Van Lines' network of partners is poor with poor service, lack of professinalism and lack of responsiveness. beware. . . .

Comments.

John Matthew was very easy to work with. He stayed in constant contact with me, made requests for specific delivery dates for me, was always very professional and very pleasant to speak with! We had never moved this way before and the people at Budget made the process easy, which was nice as moving is very stressful. Thanks John for all your help!

Booking and follow up.

I was disappointed with G&G shipping because they severely damaged 3 of the 19 pieces of furniture shipped -but budget remained involved till the issues related to this we're settled.  I would recommend getting budget to provide more than one shipping company to choose from.

Long-distance move from Iowa to Alaska

Exactly as described.

This move went without a hitch. I contacted budget who set me up for around a thousand dollars less than other companies. The movers arrived in the given window, were courteous and moved my things quickly. All my items ended up where they were meant, undamaged, dry, and in perfect condition. I would absolutely recommend.

Scam.

They did not offer me a quote but forwarded me to a multitude of different companies. I'm receiving calls from +10 different moving companies unexpectedly over the course of 3-4 days. Each one has my information as if I went to their website.

Budget Van Lines sold my information out to these companies.

Good service and quickly loaded and unloaded my belongings.  Wrapped everything to protect it.  A little unhappy about the price.  I was quoted one price, but after loading belongings, we were off in weight which increased the cost to move substantially.

Dishonest Broker and mover.

I selected this company from a number of choices. It was a bad choice. The salesman was not truthful nor was the management. The contracts are written so that the poor performing movers can over charge and hold your belonging until they receive payment.

Disquesting.

Sorry to say I will neer ever on God's green earth use this company or any broker or moving company again. Dalthom made everything sound so good and assured me all was well..was I setup for a rude and reality awakening..They set with up with a non caring company named Walla. no 24hr call to pcik my belongings. I waited 6hrs in the cold. budget called and ask how was the move ..I said what move no one came and i'm in the cold waiting. Walla sent a box truck with packers drinking guiness beer the driver told me I owed them 13% gratuity I had to give them 100.00. that's all I had left. What do I know I never had done this before. I was leaving an abusive marriage. The moving company charge me 500-600 above quote had me signigning blan documents.. I informed Marc baker at budget and fax documentation..he did nothing really. driver told me I had over estimate weight ..so out of fear I began to give away alot of my household items to packers..they left the beer bottle and trash and broken glass all on the geound for me to clean up at storage facility. they were suppose to give me an onsite estimate and never didd just blank forms to sign under deress because they had my furnishing. I aske the packers to allow me to finsh taping my boxers because I had expense purses and coats and they didn't allow me.. I ask for empty weight tickets of the box truck they sent to get my furninshing because the oroginal driver never came. and he never would and say he couldnt. I called Mr. Baker at budget and said this wasn't fair..to my avail..nothing happened..I never recieved the onsite estimate addendum and Marc knows it. they picked up my belongings on nov. 8th didn't weigh until nov 110th in jersey. from ny. my goods were handled a total estimate of 4-5 times before gettting to me. I rcv on nov 23rd. broken tiffany lamp missing container containing multi tri colored genuine fox jacket. red leather pant suit. black leather coat. ralph lauren suit. black leather boots. ful length brown mink coat..and many toher things..and no one can tell me where my belongings are. nor is anyone of these companies affering me a partial refund out of good faith..offring me 60cents a pound for my lost..this isn't compensation or value of my lost..Dont ever use any of these two companies if you don't want find yourself crying for you lost or feeling you've worked all your life in vain..
