Long-distance move from Richmond, VA to Henderson, NV

Virginia to Nevada.

I moved from VA to NV and decided to used Budget Van Lines. This is my first time to contact a moving company bcoz I have never moved this far. I spoked with agent Ryan and told him all the stuff I needed to move and he said I would only need 4 feet of space. Ryan explained to me that the truck will come to my apartment and I have 3 business days to load my stuff and 3 business days to unload. The truck came and Budget carrier was Estes SureMove. This carrier was so reliable bcoz they came on time and left on time. The agent said that it will take 6-8 business days to arrive in NV. The Budget customer service agent Dolores McBride was the most helpful person bcoz not only she explained the details on how to load my stuff, she even sent me pictures on how to properly measure the space i'm using. Thank you so much Dolores. Another Budget customer service agent Nate Kenny was also helpful in making the shedule so I can unload my stuff from the truck. The truck arrived in 7 business days. All my stuff came without any damage and I was so pleased. I will definitely recommend Budget Van Lines if you're thinking of moving.

Long-distance move from Keedysville, MD to Yukon, OK

Weight vs. Cubic footage.

We contracted with Budget Van Lines in January 2018 to move some household goods from Maryland to Oklahoma. Vikki at Budget made it clear that they would subcontract the job, and also explained that the cost would be determined by weight. She told us the movers would weigh their truck and then weigh it again after loading. We sent Vikki a list of the goods, and she gave us an estimate of the weight. She explained the estimate was high, and that we would get a refund if the actual weight turned out to be less than the estimate.
Based on this advice we packed the load, mostly boxes of clothing and household goods, in a lot of boxes, keeping the box weights low, to facilitate easy handling. A local moving company, contracted by Puma, arrived on January 17 to load the goods. The driver assured me they had just weighed the truck. After loading the goods the driver and helpers commented that the boxes were light and load was light, and we would likely get a refund. The driver also assured us they were going to weigh the truck again on their way back to Laurel MD where the load would be transferred to a large truck. They had me sign a sheaf of papers, without explaining any of it. I asked for copies and they said they would be sent to us.
Between the 17th and the 25th I called Puma Van Lines twice to ask about the load weight. Both times I was told the person I needed to speak with was busy, but would call me back soon. To date they have never done so. We told the person receiving the goods in Oklahoma to be sure to check the load upon arrival, and to be sure to get the load weight from the driver. When she asked for it the driver told her he did not have the weight, and he told her the charge was based on cubic footage, not weight. And of course the amount we were charged was the maximum weight estimate from Vikki at Budget, no refund, or even discussion of one.
Quite obviously, this whole thing was a scam. I spoke with Kelsie at Budget, who told me that I must have signed a paper changing the load from weight-based to cubic footage. Since I never was told what I was signing, nor received the paper copies, I cannot confirm this. Kelsie at Budget told me she would check with Puma about the switch in computing the charge, and call me back. She never has done so, and it has been more than 2 weeks now.
There probably is no legal recourse to the well-played scam by Puma and abetted by Budget. All that I can do now is tell our experiences to everyone we know, and to never contract with either company again. Vikki at Budget touted their reputation for honesty and had me look on-line for verification. That may be true, as far as it goes, but they didn’t support us when we told them about how this scam was played out by Puma. “We just contract with them” I was told, and there was nothing they could do about. If you are considering contracting with either company, we urge you to exercise extreme caution. While their behavior may be technically legal, it is most definitely unethical and a scam.

Do Not Book!

Be warned do not book. You may think you are saving just a few hundred but this company is unprofessional and should be shut down. The day before my move they cancelled! Without any help or suggestions on how I was Going to get from New Orleans to Washington DC. I wish I would have never went with them and used a professional trusted mover for a few hundred more.

Stay away from this broker.

On a whim, I decided to try Budget Van Lines. I input my information based on a promise of an immediate quote. As they say, if the service is free, then I'm the product, so I reasonably expected them to re-sell my information. Here is the catch - after giving them my information, the immediate quote may as well have been zero to infinity. Then, predictably, the first of many calls and text messages starting hitting my phone. Each company wanted detailed information, and each request an on-site visit by an estimator. Ask yourself - are you going to let some random company load up the contents of your house, and just drive off? Obviously not - you are going to have to vet each of these companies - check reviews, reputation, BBB, etc. I could easily spend time on Google finding these small movers, vetting them, and soliciting quotes for 2-3 of them. I don't need a broker selling leads for $3 to every mover in the country. Waste of time for me, and a waste of money for their clients (the movers). Avoid these people, just do your own search.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Florida

Budget Van Lines.

I contacted Budget Van Lines In August of 2012. I never dreamed I would end up moving in January of 2013. Closing of my house was delayed. Budget was very understanding of me postponing my move and worked with me all the way. Once my belongings were picked up after a cold Cleveland snow storm I was delighted to know I would be in Tampa in no time. From the Office representative's to the actual move I was in contact with anyone at anytime. Great team of people.

Customer Service and Sales.

Terry in Sales and Mark (Mike?) in Customer Service at Budget Van Lines could not have been more helpful, courteous, and professional.  I have not had such a wonderful experience with Customer Service and Sales people IN YEARS.  They worked with me efficiently and patiently. I am grateful and thankful to them both for providing exceptional service.  They were a breath of fresh air!

Long-distance move from Illinois to Washington

Excellent Experience.

Our son was moving across country and we found Budget Van Lines online when we were looking for options to renting and driving a U-Haul ourselves. From start to finish things went very smoothly. We had great communication with Budget and with the carrier they contracted for our move. The quoted price of approx. $2,000 (basically enough furniture for a one bedroom apartment) was exactly what we had to pay. They did a great job of estimating what we were sending.
The only slight issue we had came with final billing, but was rectified easily and quickly. If you are uncomfortable with paying in cash as we were, it would benefit you to buy a POSTAL money order for payment rather than a bank money order. Because we used a bank money order from a local bank, apparantly the moving company held it until it cleared which made it appear that we hadn't paid yet.
Regardless the problem was easily solved.
Our mover, Ray, was great. He was careful and professional both with pick up and delivery. He wrapped large pieces like the mattress, love seat and Lazy Boy, and all our son's items arrived with no problems well within the time limit set by the moving company.
Based on our experience, I could definitely recomment Budget Van Lines to others. We saved both time and money, elimated the stress of loading, unloading and driving.

Long-distance move from California to Florida

I like to move it, move it!

I never had to move my stuff cross-country before, so I didn't know what to expect. I read reviews about many different relocation/moving companies beforehand, and Budget Van-lines seemed to have the better ones. Movers: Keep in mind that you won't really know which contractor Budget Van-lines will go with until the actual move, because they have to coordinate the days and times with another company. The actual movers were fast, and loaded their truck in a timely matter. (One of them was smoking though when they first arrived, which I didn't think was very professional.) They did make sure that everything was wrapped in blankets. Some boxes were a little crushed, but nothing was damaged inside. Price: The overall price was fair. It was a little higher than I was quoted at first, but I realize that was because I decided to load more things into the truck. The final price does depend on the weight of the load you are shipping. Customer service: I kept in contact with the customer service, which helped relieve my mind a little. They kept me up-to-date about the timeline. Overall: I would probably use them again if I moved cross-country (that won't happen for a very long time though). I would recommend Budget Van-lines for your next move.

Excellent, Would recommend.

They were very cooperative, friendly and professional.  I would recommend them to anyone who is moving.  All of our stuff arrived in good condition with no damage.  They carefully wrapped and protected all of our furniture and handled it all with care.   They told us they would pick our stuff up between Monday and Wednesday and they were their on Monday and the delivery only took 4 days.

Would definitely recommend.

Everyone I was in contact with during the process was polite and professional in every way.  Calls were returned promptly with information I had requested.  The movers were very poliet and quick.  They seemed to take a lot of care with my belongings.  They were stuck in traffic but called well in advance to let me know the situation and were very accurate with the new pick-up time.

Professional and courteous.

The Budget rep I worked with was very professional, he provided me with good information and was prompt to return several of the calls I made regarding questions about our move. I under estimated our inventory by a substantial amount but the movers still loaded our belongings and did an awesome job unloading our belongings into a tight storage unit. The cost was higher than I would have liked but the service was good.

Smooth experience.

I had a very smooth move recently with Budget Van Lines. They are a mover broker so your actual experience will depend on who they partner with. My movers were on-time, professional, and seemed to take very good care of my stuff.

The budget van lines folks provided a very close estimate to the final cost of the move and were available for any questions I had. The price was very fair and much better than plenty of other companies I had called.

One minor point of clarification: You will receive guidance on when your stuff will arrive, but the final date you will not know until the day before. This is a bit painful for long distance moves and you should expect to sleep on an air mattress for a few days without knowing when your bed will arrive.

Long-distance move from New York to New Mexico

Budget Van Lines.

Let me start out with saying that I read all the nasty reviews on Moving Brokers.  I can tell you that this was NOT my experience with Budget Van Lines.
IT WAS THE BEST MOVING EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD!
I have moved from TX to NM, NM to MN, MN to NY, NY to NY and NY to NM  using moving companies.  I have alot of experience with moving companies!
Everything that Budget said would happen did and on time.  I always had a contact during the process and even the drivers cell phone.  The quote I received is what I paid and most important everything was delivered on time and in one piece.  They took care to wrap everything and also took care not to damage the house as everything was being put on the truck.  They were very friendly and professional.  I would use them again and again.

Diasppointing.

A bad experience is a understatement for my experience. I used the shipping company for two previous moves and they were great. The agents were rude and did not properly code my order. The sales rep Heather had a very disrepectful tone as though she did me a favor. I would never suggest anyone to use such a company with all of your belongings. I am still waiting and its been a constent battle to learn about my delivery status from the compnay and the drivers.

Long-distance move from Iowa to California

Shuttle.

I was initially dismayed by the service.  My move cost $500 more than the estimate ($1650).  I was responsible for around $200 of that, for overage in weight and long carry charges.  But the extra $300 was for a shuttle because the semi couldn't make it to my house.  I live on a hill, and there weren't any roads large and straight enough; I spent my morning driving the driver around to try to figure it out.  My complaint was that this is something I never would have foeseen, as I'm not a mover; and I wasn't informed of the risk, as I was of the Long Carry (it was in the fine print, but who reads that?).  The reason I've given 3 stars is because Budget made a good faith effort in compensating me for half of the $300, and I appreciate that very much.  John Matthews was extremely responsive to my calls and did his very best to mediate a difficult situation.  Thank you, John, and thank you, Budget, for this effort.

Buget and sub contracter.

They gave me a quote by weight and when a company came it looked like a fly by night company, the boss tells me that they were not going to fit everything on the truck and that he would ship it right away, well that was almost three weeks ago!  And that he was charging me by the cubic foot. Well, the price went up 2000.00$. Not only that all the broken things are to be covered by budget and for two weeks I have been calling for the forms to be e-mail to me and still nothing! There is a lot of moving company out there don't use them!

Long-distance move from Illinois to Missouri

My move on February 12, 2014.

To: Whom It May ConcernBudget VanLines My name is Victoria Smith and I am writing a review concerning my packing and move from Illinois to Missouri on February 12-16, 2014.During a conversation with a man who was asked to come and pack my house in Illinois, I became very concerned about my items as he proceeded to inform me that they would pack them in the truck, be driven to a warehouse, unloaded, remain there for a few days until a larger truck would reload them and then be driven to the final destination in Missouri.I was unaware of this procedure and didn't want my furniture to be handled in this fashion. So I called your head office( thinking that I would have to cancel and find another company) and spoke with Mr Mark Baker who assured me that he would look into it and get right back with me,,,and he did.He was so helpful and reassuring over the phone and it really did settle a lot of stress I was experiencing. Also, he has been consistant in his contact with me throughout the move, making sure that things were going well, and offering help if I had any more questions or issues.Mr Baker has done a great job in assisting me, and truly was the sole reason I did not seek to cancel my contract. He delivered as he said he would and I wanted your company to know. Sincerely,Mrs Victoria Smith .

Long-distance move from Michigan to Texas

Excellent easy professional move.

I googled economical move and found Budget Van Lines. From my first phone call I was impressed and the complete experience was economical and professional. I was already in Texas when I requested the move in Battle Creek. From the initial inventory conversation with Terry to the final delivery I was very pleased. It was -12 the day the movers arrived , but through the frozen outdoor furniture to bitter cold the movers were very competent and wrapped the furniture better than a larger mover I had previously used. We had some fragile pieces and all arrived in perfect condition. As my husband and I drove to Austin we were not concerned about all of our possessions because of the professionalism of the crew especially the driver. The off loading crew couldn't have been better.  They were patient and worked very hard . I was also very impressed by politeness.  Finally, the cost.. I have moved from state to state before and I knew what to expect pricewise  so I I was pleased that the quote was lower and the payment schedule was explained clearly and completely.   There were no changes or unexpected expenses which I appreciated.. All in all I would recommend Budget Mover .. They were 5 stars!!

Moving.

We moved some boxes and a couch from Michigan to California.  We had a few issues with understanding the quote when our stuff was picked up and had some issues with our carpet getting dirty from the movers.  Budget customer service was quick to respond and offered to have our carpets cleaned.  Very impressed with the quality of customer service from the back office at Budget. We had some confusion at delivery in regards to a long haul fee.  I reluctantly made the payment, but let customer service know I was not pleased.  They again, rectified the situation and I was very impressed with the manner in which the handled it. Thanks so much for taking care of this.  .

Moving with Budget Van Lines.

Contacted Budget Van lines to move my furniture. Bad Choice. Movers were late, damaged items and other items were soiled. Budget is not responsible for damages..you mmust contact the movers. Budget seems to be only interested in you paying them. They will explain this part of the process in great detail. In my humble opinion if you are moving contact a reputable mover so you only have to deal with one company.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Florida

John Matthews_Excellent Customer Service.

I recently started working with Budget Van Lines a week and half ago. I was organizing a reliable but afforable move for my better half. His one bedroom furniture and personal items needed to come from Ohio to Florida where we have our first home together. I had a great and informational talk with Oscare who set us up with our quote and approximate date of arrival. However, working with the carrier Budget found us has been anything but wonderful. On the up side, John Matthews has gone above and beyond the call of duty making sure both of us are informed on what is going on and trying to resolve all the issues. It really is a shame that a carrier can almost tarnish the great business Budget Van Lines is trying to maintain. We are still waiting on our items and John has made it clear to stay incontact with him even after the move to make sure we are fully satisfied. Thank you so much John for being a great professional and trustworthy man. And thank you Budget for trying to makeup for the carriers mistakes.

Long-distance move from Ohio to Florida

Ups and Downs.

Recently used Budget Van Lines for a move from Ohio to Florida. I would recommend anyone interested in using this company to be very weary and get EVERY detail in writing. My problems have not come from Budget as much as it has been from the carrier they hired (Precision Moving, Bronx, NY). I caught them trying to scam me on weight, price, etc and had to work very hard to get to higher management within Budget to fix the issue. Finally, I reached John Matthews and he has been a very professional & transparent person to work with in their customer service department. If I recommend Budget Van Lines to anyone, it will be solely based off of John and his efforts to get me a refund and negotiate with Precision Moving. His work has been great and I'm thankful for it. It's sad that a bad carrier can ruin the reputation of a company like Budget Van Lines.

Reviewing BUDGET!

My experience with Budget was overall very good! Using a broker means that one has to expect some issues.  And my issues are with the company they contracted with!  In my case it was with Platinum Van Lines!  The "Pick-Up" was "HOURS' late, just adding to the stress of a big move. Coupled with "Extra Charges" for additional "Cubic Feet Space" as well as charges for using a credit card.  I REFUSED these "extras" and threw my "Budget" contract in their face. Stating that there was nothing on the contract that gave them the right to charge extra.  They Gave In.

My next issue with Platinum was that I had additional weight.  Something I knew and accepted. The contract stated that 50% of the move was paid at pick-up.  No problem!  However, with the additional weight they had to recalculate the 1/2 price of the move AFTER the pick-up.  Again I knew and accepted this.  What made me angry was that on a 2-day drive to my new location I had a call from their office in Chicago.  The women insisted that I pay the additional weight costs immediately! And threw up the additional charges for the use of the credit card!  In no uncertain terms, I let her know that when I landed where I was going .. and at my discretion, I would THEN read her e-mails, and submit the added charges WITHOUT any "Extra Charge Card Charges".  She gave in!

During this period my contact with Budget (Ryan) was in touch with me just checking on the status of the move.  I made him aware of the previous issues and he told me to stand my ground. He also told me what my rights were, and to keep in touch with any other issues. Which I appreciated.

Delivery came about 3 days later then 1st discussed, and that was fine. The northeast was in the middle of the "Polar Vortex" and it was only -10 to -33 with the wind chill! I received a call from Platinum in Florida, saying that my stuff was loaded and left on Tuesday. She sent an e-mail confirming the departure and the remaining balance due. Hours later I received a call from the driver stating that delivery would be Wednesday. He needed the delivery address and gave me a "Balance Due" amount $600 higher then the previous call and e-mail!! Of course I told him of the discrepancy, and he said he would check it out.  The driver never raised the issue again.  However, Ryan from Budget was yet again checking in on the actual day of delivery (I wonder how he knew the day?) to get an update!  I expressed the "Balance Issue" and he immediately went on to contact Platinum. He confirmed the e-mail price was correct, and I later received a call from their Platinum's Florida office apologizing for not calling and clearing up the "Balance Issue" themselves. The 2 delivery guys were GREAT.  It was very cold and wet outside. My items were of course dirty and moist but not soaked in any way. So far, nothing appears to have been damaged, lost or stolen but it has only been a few days!

Regarding BUDGET, and Ryan specifically!  Overall a VERY POSITIVE experience. The kept in touch and were not hesitant to get involved when necessary!  I did appreciate their constant interaction regarding the move!
