Huge disappointment

Complete disaster. They arrived an hour and a half early and bullied me into rushing. Then Starving students again believe me into paying $80 for materials when I had already taped and wrapped everything. They ruined two of my fabric shoeboxes and they won’t return my phone call asking for a Credit. And by the way none of them were students!

Happy Customer !

We had an unbelievably great experience with Starving Students Movers. They were very professional and work amazingly hard. They were careful with our belongings, moved them efficiently and were extremely careful with our old house and our new home. Thank you Angel, Ron, Tyrone and Jimmy for your hard work and effort to get us moved! I would recommend this company to everyone. Hands down the best and easiest moving experience we’ve ever had.

Negligent.

Unless your hiring the Starving Students Moving Company to hall your furniture to the dump, don't call them.  I hired this company on April 1, 2013, to move my furniture 11 miles.  They were grossly negligent and 6 pieces arrived severely damaged and that was with unlimited wrapping.  When I filled a complaint, I was told "if you really cared about your furniture, you would have bought full replacement valuation".  I suggest you just drag your furniture down the street.  It will arrive in better condition then if you trust the Starving Students Moving  with it.

Biggest Mistake.

Biggest mistake of our lives. We hired them to move some large things we couldn't move ourselves, a newer stainless steel washer and dryer and very large rolling toolbox. When the movers walked in they had already checked the spots for us to initial and told us nothing of any protection plans. Hindsight being 20/20 we should've looked closer but what they had us initial said that if they damaged anything, we'd be reimbursed .60 for each lb the item weighed. I contacted other moving companies, no one has anything likes this. They guarantee the quality of the move, obviously not starving students. Our washer and dryer were dropped when being carried up the exterior basement stairwell and scraped all over the railing. When they were in the truck I asked what we should do since they obviously damaged our appliances. I was told there was a "teeny tiny" scratch on the dryer door. When we arrived at the new house, they opened the door to the truck and we immediately saw all the blankets that they were supposed to use to protect the appliances, folded neatly in the truck, not used at all. As they brought the appliances in, it was much more than a teeny tiny scratch. Both appliances have deep scratches and even gouges and dents all over. The clear doors are all scratched and the toolbox has a big scratch that looks like someone keyed it in some type of abstract design. I was furious. I contacted the manager AND the claims department, told them I'd be contacting the BBB and they said they deal with that all time and a contract is a contract. Obviously, .60/lb will do nothing for these appliances. To make matters worse, when we returned to the old house the next day, the railing in the stairwell was left broken and in pieces, they never bothered to tell us. Also, having paid hourly, pretty irritated that one of the workers had to go #2 while on the clock. When we came to the house the following weekend and used the bathroom, he seriously didn't even flush. It had sat there for a week. I have been contacting the company now for over a week and no returned calls.  Do NOT use them. They are careless idiots.

LAIRS - CHEATERS - Going to hell!

This pathetic operation is so dishonest till it is pathetic. They showed up 2 hours late with two kids (Not professional movers)and a person who was so scared of his boss till he was simply a punk. They tried to cushion the start time. They lied about giving information about the $250.00 deposit. I was ONLY informed of that when they got there. Then the punk took his precious time to move my things. Started arguing with the boys stopping progress. Loud in the hall of my building. They put my mattress on the ground in the stairwell up against the wall. The head person (punk) yelled at me, and used porfanity. They didn't wrap a sinlge piece of furniture but put on the invoice Shrink wrap.. They tried to charge me for 5 men and that wasn't about to happen. I had to move ALL of my clothes and many other items BY MYSELF up 5 flights of steps since my building does not have an elevator. That menas I had to load my car several times, travel to my new place unload and go back for more. It took me two more days to get everything done and I got sick. They lied about "No Surprises" and then cushioned the time after they finished..(they workd 3 1/2 hours they put on the invoice 4.5hours) I wouldn't pay him no more than the deposit. I am going to sue for all of my money back. I have more evidence of wrong doing and if you want to see it and hear it, you can e-mail me at tonjalpalmer@gmail.com. Everything is legal and everything is true. check out the picture I posted. SAVE YOUR MONEY! CALL A REAL MOVING COMPANY! LYING SCHEMING PEOPLE>.. God is going to get you! Worst movers I've ever used.

This was by far the worst experience I have ever had using paid movers.

When the movers arrived, the foreman immediately started complaining that I had too much stuff and that it was a 3 man job. Eventually he told me to call “his boss” and ask for a third person. I spoke to her and authorized it, and she spoke to the foreman, but then nothing actually happened with it. He did continually complain throughout the day that it should have been a 3 man job, and seemed to blame me for there only being 2 people, as if I was supposed to estimate how many people were needed.

Once they started working, we noticed that the foreman was limping, and wearing one sandal. He mentioned to us that 2 weeks ago, his lift gate dropped on his toe. I think it’s incredibly unprofessional to be doing such a demanding physical job when you’re not in good medical condition, and it’s very unsafe to not be wearing closed-toe shoes.

Early in the loading process, the foreman asked me if I had boxes for the two televisions (which I indicated as part of the move both in the initial contact and showed to him when he arrived). I said I did not, and he said we should’ve had boxes for them, but nothing more. I was unaware I needed boxes for the TVs, as I have hired movers multiple times in the past and they never had any problem wrapping TVs in blankets and loading them into the truck.

About midway through the loading process, the foreman again asked me if I had boxes for the TVs. I again said I didn’t, and he said he would not move them without boxes. I ended up speaking this boss about this, and she said if I signed a waiver stating that I accepted all risk of damage to the TVs, the movers could wrap them in blankets and load them. The foreman refused to do that, then changed course, and said he would, if I threw in an additional $25 for him. I told him no, and spoke to hisboss about this, because I do not appreciate being shaken down like that. She agreed that he shouldn’t have done that, and told me her boss would be giving me a call in a few minutes.

While waiting for that call, the foreman began yelling at me that I should not have talked to her about it, because she can’t tell him what to do. He said he wouldn’t wrap and load the TVs because he would not “do something for free.” That doesn’t make sense to me because I’m paying by the hour, so he’s already being compensated. Eventually, I was sick of being yelled at and told him to drop it – the TVs would not be moved, and please get on with the loading. This conflict clearly upset him a great deal, as he would barely make eye contact with me or say another word the rest of the move.

I did receive a call from his boss’s boss, wherein I discussed some of these issues. He agreed that the foreman shouldn’t have asked me for more money to move the TVs, and said he’d talk to him and then get back to me. I never heard back.

Close to the end of the move, the foreman said something along the lines of, “just the couch and we’re done.” At that point, there were still about 10-15 boxes in the garage, my workbench, and a few other items, such as a ladder and some lamps. I pointed those out and he took the workbench and boxes, but refused to take the ladder. He said something along the lines of, “can’t you put it in your car?” I have a Honda Accord, and this is a large ladder. No, I can’t put it in the car – that’s why I hired movers in the first place.

The lamps never made it in the truck, nor did a variety of other small things such as a shovel, brooms, a stand mixer, and very small air compressor.

Finally, they finished loading everything, and left without even telling us they were leaving.

The unloading went mostly smoothly, although I am not happy that my workbench was left on it’s side instead of upright as it should be. Also, my (small) filing cabinet was broken – I saw it drop off the lift gate of the truck, smashing into the road (see attached). I don’t know if this was an accident or some petty revenge for the conflict we’d had. I understand I signed a waiver about damage to my stuff, so this is the risk I take.

My mattress now has filthy handprints in multiple spots, and there is what looks like wood shavings and dirt on the side of it, as well as my couch. I assume this is from the floor of the truck. I don’t think it’s acceptable – there should be pads underneath the furniture or it should be completely wrapped or something.

There was enough stuff that the foreman either refused to move, or simply ignored and left behind that I had to rent a U-Haul today, go back to the old house, and move it all myself.

All in all, this experience was an absolute nightmare, and far and away the worst “professional” movers I’ve ever hired. I intend to warn off all friends and family from Starving Students.

This company don't care.

I received a call a day before my move to tell me that they couldn't move me! One person stated that my order came in too late another person said they had too many trucks that were broken down. So which one was the truth. They didn't care about the position they put me in, only I'm sorry. No your company is SORRY & very unprofessional. All I can say is be aware & careful when dealing with this company!

Poor service, lies and poor claim service.

9 am 7/1/12 was the appointment date for pick-up and delivery.  The move is about 8 miles awy.  I told the salesman we have some heavy stuff and want to book priority pickup with extra pay.  they did not show up until 5pm in the evening.  I had made numerous calls, to the moving manager, customer service, even reginal manager.  I got a lot of lies, like"Our truck broke down." " there is a flat tire.'  Or they did not pick up anything or "We are coming.  when we finish this move.."  Not until 5pm. I spoke with the reginal manager, she said, "We over booked and we had tofinish moving the others before you."  The move was just 8 or 9 miles away, we did not "get"it done until almost 3am.  Our son fell asleep on top of a pile of stuff.  My husband was helping moving funiture..  the movers told us it was their 12th move of the day.  They were tired out, nothing left.  As a result, we have massive damages.  I requested the mover send someone to inspect the damages, the woman told me No,just send in pictures and claim forms and they only give out a little cash compansation, no repairs.    We have moved to many states including Europe, all movers sent inspectors and repairmen to repair damages, paid cash for the item beyound repair.  We use Mayflower, United Van Lines and a couple other movers. Movers did not use mats on the stairs and our runner and part of the hard wood floor  got damage too.   .

Long-distance move from California to Wyoming

30 days after pick up no delivery.

I have moved 1000 miles from my home. The moving company did not show up to move me on time. Wrong day. A tiny couple rolled out of a rental truck at 5 pm. 5 hours later the truck was too full to fit everything by ten at night I had no choice but to pay a junker to take the rest of my things. I'm still waiting since may 16 for my belongings. No one returns calls today they say I might get my things Monday or Tuesday next week, but they can't promise. That's June I am sick. Sleeping on a floor. Still. The starving student Vice President did not tell me they subcontract the jobs out. I feel lied to, disregarded and treated by starving students like I was a pest. Today I called every 30 minutes till they just went home.

Worst In the Nation.

Sadly, we discovered this page with mover reviews AFTER mistakenly hiring Staving Student Movers.  There's a reason they're starving.  They have no idea how to move anything without damaging it, getting it wet, nor damaging the home that it's coming out of.   Their truck should have been our first clue.  Old, derelict, with broken windshield, broken fibergalss fender, and a large gapping hole in the roof where some (obviously) inexperienced driver attempted to go someplace he shouldn't have.  The clutch was on its last mile.   The guys didn't look anything like movers.  They were dressed with their pants falling off and their shoes untied.  Were they recruited from a gang?  They argued the entire time with each other.  They had no clue how to protect anything.  If you have a bunch of junk you could use them, but if you value your stuff you absolutely would be nuts to use them.  And their prices are completely out of line for what they do.  You're getting no bargain with these guys.     It's clear that training is not the order of business for this company.  They don't waste the time.  These guys dragged stuff across the ground, and then tossed it into the truck, without really securing it.     I'm sure we'll have all sorts of issues from them when it comes to the claims process.  I'm retired military and have nearly 60 years of moving behind me, including a DITY Move (do it yourself) and these guys range lower than any scale available.    .

Starving Students.

This was the worst experience of my life. I have moved mulitple times and have never been treated with such disrespect. They picked up in a beat up truck wearing dirty t shirts and then told me it would be no problem to change arrival date in California. They then asked me to tip them before leaving. I did not hear from then again until I called one day before delivery was due. I was then advised it would be another two weeks before I received my belongings with no specific date. After mulitple phone calls and another week I finally received a due date, which was then delayed another two days. My boxes were severely damaged and at least six were wet with unknown liquid. They forgot a bed frame which took another two weeks to receive-damaged. Starving Students had stopped taking my calls and told me to talk to Able Moving. They were rude and blamed me for using "bad" boxes. Extremely unprofessional.

Unprofessional and Uncaring.

I booked my move with starving students almost a month before my move date. The Friday before my 8 AM Saturday move I received an EMAIL at 5:15 PM stating that they were sorry for the inconvenience but they would not be able to move me as scheduled. I called the gentleman (I use this word very very loosely) who sent the email to make sure it was right. I was understandably upset, I had to move as my house was closing escrow and I had planned it plenty far in advance. This guy, Maurice, was extremely rude and continued to cut me off when I was talking and telling me not to yell. I let him know I was not yet yelling but was getting close. He stated they were not able to find a contractor for my area but that they had been trying really hard.
What I want to know is, if they had been trying to find one then why didn't they let me know in advance there was a problem? Not after close of business day on the day before my weekend move when I would not be able to find another source for moving?
If you hire starving students to move you I advise you line up a uhaul and a bunch of friends as a back-up plan because you are going to need it! That company sucks!

Moving experience.

I am writing this 2.5 months after my experience with Starving Students, hoping that anyone that is considering them- reads this before hiring. When I first let them know of my experience- it wasn't the traditional response of "we are so sorry this happened, and let's talk about how to make this right." It was "please allow us 45 days to process your claim." That is never a good sign- when a company has so many complaints, that they need a month and a half to even read yours. When that magical time period passed- I wrote again. It looked like they finally read it and said oh well since yours is not specifically a damage claim- there is nothing we can do. I believe starving students uses the "please allow 45 days" tactic to stall angry customers in hopes that there fervor would die out- not this chick. Here are the details of our horrid moving experience with starving students:1) We hired an off brand company to do our moving on saturday 8/25, said company did not show up and so we scrambled to find someone to help us that day2) we called many other places who could do our move, but starving students had the most truck space and we knew they were a nationally recognized brand that was insured and bonded3) we called your corporate office to schedule the move..the gentleman we spoke with told us that they would send 2 guys (we originally wanted 3) and laughed at us when we said it would take around 6 hours, stating that he didn't believe it would be anywhere near that for such a small move (we relayed that our place was 850 sq ft and a 2 bedroom apt) but couldn't quote us directly4) we then spoke with bill j who was the head contact person for the south bay area, he stated they would be there "somewhere between 1 and 5," but couldn't guarantee when5) we found another company who could give us a definitive yes and called bill to cancel..he stated that he could also give us a definitive yes but couldn't say what exact time between 1 and 5 but that they would for sure be there between that time6) anxious to get our move underway, we called him back several hours later because we never heard an update as he told us he would provide, he mostly sounded annoyed, and said "i have no way of predicting when they are going to be done maam"7) the movers showed at 5:39, and took one look at the place and stated that they were not told this would be this big of a move (our apt was 850 sq ft) and that they did not have the proper materials (shrink wrap, packaging, padding, etc) so that if they moved us it would be "at your own risk," 8) I called bill j who proceeded to state "well maam what do you expect, you asked for a same day move and these guys have had much bigger jobs today, they ain't gonna have all the supplies. I responded that we paid the same price as everyone else, and if we had been told that we would be receiving lesser quality service, I could assure him we would have gone with another company. I also added that the reason we picked starving students was because they were bonded and insured. Otherwise we could have gone with any guy off the street. He responded with "who said that?" I told him I don't know what guy it is, but that these are your company's representatives. He stated "well maam you signed a contract stating that we're responsible for it, if you read the contract its in there." 9) Bill's overall demeanor and tone was incredibly rude, lax, and condescending10) We asked the men to proceed with our move and after they hemmed and hawed it was close to 7pm. As it progressed, they asked my husband to borrow his tools because they forgot theirs, tried to disassemble our bed with a screwdriver, although we were told all would be equipped with power tools11) the truck had no light in the back of it- so my husband had to use his iphone's flashlight app to help the movers load and unload12) the men then stopped mid way through the move (which was now midnight) and stated that they would be back first thing in the morning at 8am. We were hesitant to sign off but they put a tremendous amount of pressure on us to sign off, and bill j was unreachable. 13) 8:30 am the next day arrived and no one showed. We called corporate and had to go through the process of re-setting the move. They assured us someone would be at our place shortly. We called them and Bill J (who's phone was turned off) 3 times. Bill was, again, indifferent and unconcerned. They (2 different men) showed at 10:45am. 14) In addition to all this, our white carpet on our stairs was left unprotected, and thus black soot from their shoes is now all over it. Several of our items were also broke after we unpacked including a large dresser. At the end of the day- I can accept that everyone may have some bumps and scratches after a move, but the experience that I had with starving students being charged over $1000 was a nightmare.

Use ANYONE else.

I have used other movers in the past and had a reasonable experiences. To begin the movers showed up 4 hours late to a high rise apartment where there was only a 3 hour elevator reservation time. When they delivered the items, upon unpacking we noticed multiple items were damaged beyond repair during the move. Furthermore, they did not transport several of the items we asked they to move. Overall a low end experience. My advice is to avoid completely. If this isn't possible secondary to availability of another carrier, watch these guys like a hawk from beginning to end.

My Move.

I needed them to come early, and they were able to accommodate that for me. The guys were helpful with suggestions that I needed about moving. I was able to leave for an hour to get some errands done, and the guys let me know they would be fine and I could leave without worrying about them. The guys were very friendly, and I had a really good, less stessful, smooth move.

Items Stolen by movers.

These movers are slow and dishonest. The salesman misrepresented the value of having a 3rd mover because the movers are so slow that having a 3rd mover simply increased the overall cost of the mover rather than saving money. I moved a small 3 bedroom apartment with a sofa, one chair, a bed, a small number of kitchen items and some personal items about 8 miles or less. I stayed with the movers for about 2 hours while they moved most of the boxes I had packed and all the furniture. All they had to pack was a few dishes and some clothing. They were almost done according to their lead mover and would follow me to the home very shortly. 3 hours later I called the mover and asked where they were. He did not have a reasonable answer and stated they were on the way. When I went back to check the apartment I found they had gone into the refrigerator and drunk all the soda. They also had left all the coats in the hall closet. That turned out to be blessing because they stole a $2700 Dolce and Gabbana leather jacket and a $700 Valentino Red jacket. The move that should have cost about $700 cost almost $1000. It took me a while to recognize the theft. I am filing a police report and file an insurance claim so my insurance company will subrogate against Starving Students to hold the company responsible. If you have a reservation with Starving Students, please cancel. If you are looking for a mover, ask friends for a referral to a reputable company. Based on my experience and the other reviews posted on line, this company misrepresents the costs and some of their movers are apparently dishonest.

Beware..do Not Use This Mover.

We were quoted and hourly rate for our two bedroom single level condo. We estimated the total cost should be about $600 to move us seven miles. A previous move 200 miles only cost us $1100. The movers were so slow that my wife and myself kept telling them to move faster. One piece on furniture on average would take 10 minutes to wrap with plastic. On the way to the new place the truck would not go over 25MPH in a 55MPH zone. My wife kept honking at them and yelling to go 55MPH. When they arrived at the house they had already spent 80% of the day loading and driving to the new house, so they quickly unloaded the truck. They dropped boxes marked with the room (kitchen, office, master..etc.) in any room just to unload the truck. a lot of stuff was dumped in the garage and not even moved into the house, so they could get out of there in 8 hours of work. This mover is the the WORST we have ever used. DO NOT USE THIS MOVER or you will be very unhappy. Then the manager told us he would take $115 off of the bill. Weeks later there coporate office started calling us and telling us they will put us in collections if we do not pay the $115. I called the manager and he remembered telling us he would wave the $115. for the poor job the movers did, but he told corporate he never said that and we have to file a claim with them after we pay the $115. BUYER BEWARE THEY ALSO VERY ARE DISHONEST.

A bit pricy, but more than I ever expected!

These guys seriously exceeded all of my expectations. From the time they showed up to the time they left, I had zero complaints. Other than a few broken glasses that were packed my ME lol, noting else was damaged. Houston and his crew were able to literally take my tanning bed apart in less than 5 min. without even removing the glass and put it back together in a snap. Our fridge was too large to fit in the door of the new house so they knew exactly how to take one of the doors off to get it in, hooked up the water line, and put the door back on perfectly..this was NOT what you would expect movers to know how to do. Also, they put both beds together including mattresses, frams, etc.

I don't know what crew was used in other states but in La. Houston and his guys were amazing. They went above and beyond what we have ever had to deal with before and I will recommend them to anyone!

Do Yourself a Favor And do Not Use These Guys!

These guys were scheduled to arrive at 8:30AM and showed up at 2:30PM and informed me that I had not packed enough and they would return the next day, since they claimed to be fast and didn't want to wait for me. The next day a different crew was scheduled for 9:30AM and showed up at 6:00 PM. We rescheduled for a third try. They arrived at 9:30 with a third guy and I was hit with extra fees for PUC, Workman's Comp., Double-Drive Time, etc., which would add an additional 25% to the bill I did not have time to get other movers at this point so we began. Every hour or two, the guys went for a "cigar" break. I would later find out that it was not really a cigar. Somewhere during the move, over $4000 worth of jewelry went missing, along with a prescription for Oxycontin from years earlier (and that's just what I know is missing so far). A few of the items are irreplaceable heirlooms. For example, one of the rings is (was) all I have left of my late father's possessions.

I emailed Melanie in claims who told me that it was "ridiculous" to think that employees would smoke pot right in front of a customer and that there was no "evidence" that a theft had occurred, despite a filed police report, which seems to be growing daily as I notice more missing property. You see, two of the three guys went with me to take a load to storage while a third stayed behind to pack up the cabinets and drawers. Four hours later, when we returned, he had only packed an eight-place set of dishes and some glasses. I paid $120 for him to pack up less than $30 worth of dishes! It appears that he was busy pilfering my property, rather than packing. I thought these guys were bonded and insured - I guess not.

The move appeared to be going in slow motion, I thought, as an attempt to pad the time but several furniture items were damaged along the way. I won't even know the full extent until I move out of storage. My solid oak dining room table was rolled from the truck to the storage room on its side across the asphalt. My dresser was turned on its side, with two of the top drawers full of items other than clothes. I don't even know what all might have fallen out. Certainly, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that you have to take the drawers out or unload them first. Surely, one could hear all of the property clanking around inside and falling out the bottom.
Although the Claims Department (there is only one person who seems to answer to no one) is looking into the extensive property damage, they are not even willing to investigate the theft and drug abuse, essentially calling me a liar. Not once did Melanie ever tell me that they would look into the matter but immediately went into "defensive mode." Not only was I grossly overcharged but also violated, insulted, disgusted and angered at how this operation conducts business. In our last email, I was patronized by the comment, "I believe you believe everything you're telling me. That doesn't make any of it true or correct." It certainly does not make any of it not true or correct either. In other words, I'm some sort of nut job making this all up. How in the #@%& do you know if you never investigate?!? No wonder these guys feel so free to get away with this. Perhaps, a few personnel changes should be in order.
I was told that this company makes 3000 moves a year and there are bound to be some complaints. Guess what Melanie, I'm only concerned with my move and the return of my property! How callous can one get?

Do not use Starving Students.

Horrible!I wish I would have read the reviews before I chose these guys. Not only did they illegally charge my card about $50 bucks extra(my credit card company is disputing because I still have the receipt that shows authorization for only $360, not $407) I can't get anyone to call me back to dispute the extra charges for stretch wrap and mattress pad cover. I was not told of anyone this by my quote and come moving day I was told, "ok just to let you know it's $35 for the stretch wrap and $10 for the mattress cover. These are all optional of course, but then you have to sign a form that says we are not responsible for your stuff getting dirty the truck is dirty so I would suggest it" do I really have a choice at this point? No. Would not recommend! I will be filing a claim with the better business bureau.

You get what you pay for?

Okay.. here's how the moving hilarity went down:

phone call at 7:45am on Monday telling me that since the moving truck is dispatched from the same town as me that it should arrive shortly.

I pull my fish out of the tank and we start dragging our 195 boxes onto the driveway, where they sit in the HOT sun for the next 4 hours.

Truck shows up at noon, one fish already dead and the others are looking wobbly..

The moving truck is the most hoopty looking vehicle I've ever seen.. parts of the top were duct-taped together where it had obviously smashed into a low overpass.

The three slacker dudes then take 4 hours to load the thing.. dropping boxes, spilling an entire Gatorade on a tv and other boxes, getting bike chain grease all over a mattress and other cushions because they are just piling [EDIT] up as high as it will go with no attempt at organization.. busted lamp, dinged up furniture, crushed boxes.. etc.

We're hauling out stuff as fast as we can and there isn't a moment during the move that at least one guy isn't just chilling and talking on his cell phone or standing in the truck and staring into space.

Nobody knows how to get to my new address so I explain the directions 495 to tysons, 7 west.. THAT'S IT! I tell them to follow me in my ORANGE car and yet they take the wrong exits TWICE and we drive around for a half hour trying to get back on course (all on my dime, of course)

We get the joint at 5 and things slow to a crawl.. these guys are moving one box every 5 minutes.. I'm moving 3 boxes for every one that they haul.. then they spend 45 minutes trying to get a box spring up a stairwell.. totally baffled by the geometry of the event.. I throw a tantrum at this point and FINALLY things starts moving along.. at about 7pm I get a call from some guy who says "I'm checking on my crew" I tell him that things are going poorly and that I can't talk now because I am carrying my own furniture up the stairs so that I can be done before midnight.

Anyway.. finally tally: 9.5 hours of moving at $115 an hour plus a gas fee, plus other fees (and an attempt to retroactively ding me for insurance options that I didn't choose)

All this in an attempt to save a few bucks by not going with a bigger name mover. Next time I'll rent a truck, hire a few movers and do this myself since I'm sure it'll go smoother that way.

Get a Professional Moving Company Instead.

I recently used Starving Students Moving. I selected Starving Students based on price and the expectations set with me by their scheduling representatives. My experience with Starving Students was different than the expectations I was led to believe. Their pricing was significantly higher both by how they represented when they start charging per hour and when they stop. Also, they added in additional fees. The overall price ended up being about 30% higher than it should have been based on the original expectations. By the way, my expectations were set and verified by 4 different scheduling representatives. I was surprised unfortunately.
Also, they took little care in tracking dirt-mud into my two houses. At the destination house, I personally had to run around trying to cover floors and steps as they didn.

Con Artists.

These guys from Tempe Starving Students were supposed to move us between 8:00 and noon, and didn't even call until after noon. The guys showed up with a 32(?) foot truck for our nice little 1474 sq. foot house. We had already moved our arts, mirrors, computers, and musicals instruments. They knew we were only moving two miles away and loaded all the small stuff into the truck first, not having room for our two bikes and our three ladders (6, 8, and 10 ft). When we complained that they should have enough room for things, they made room for the 6- and 8-foot ladders (the ones we could have moved with our Camry), not the 10-footer. They were bucking for extra time and trip all along. NEVER AGAIN.

Stay Away.

This company is awful in every way I can imagine. First, they mislead you with pricing, they showed up late, they were S-L-O-W, did not give inventory until move was completed, which took an extraordianry amount of time. The inventory list was written illegible and indicated that every item I had was already damaged! They didn't know what they were doing, how to pack the truck, how to efficiently and effectively move items without damage. I have seen my stuff moved professionally, quick, and safe, so I can compare! Every single thing ended up scratched or broken. They put wholes in walls and gouged wood floors. I moved all of the boxes myself. I am a small woman and was faster than the 3 guys were! I only moved 3 blocks and it took them 10 hours, plus wanted to charge nearly $300 in fuel costs and other charges (never disclosed up front)on top of hourly rate.

The comapny then bullied me by threats of collection, etc and did not want to hear about my issues. They also said I could not make claims when I did not pay my bill in full. I soon relaized that I needed to end this misery and settle. I am eating all of the damage that they did and paid them the hourly rate quoted. The only reason I went with them was out of desperation when my original movers did not show up over July 4th weekend. They were the only company that we could find that was open. I had no idea what an awful reputation that they had. They could have been the heros of the story..but instead added to my misery!

Let these guys starve..they deserve to.
