Long-distance move from Strongsville, OH to Cedar Creek, TX

DON"T USE THIS COMPANY

I would like to recount the unbelievably bad experience and bad service that I had with AME. It started out well with Kyle Lavelle, whom I had 3 – 4 conversations with. We talked about the move, and about insurance - if there was a need- he didn’t think so. I was concerned about expensive dishes we had (which came out OK in the delivery).

We talked about the need to have the move done on a certain time frame. We agreed that the move from Strongville, OH to Cedar Creek, TX would start with the loading of furniture on April 1. We also agreed, that if needed, April 2 could be used as the alternate move-out day as long as the movers would finish at 2PM so that I could catch a flight around 4:30. I would be there when they loaded the truck.

All seemed to be going well. I got a call from the moving help desk that the move would take place on Sat, Apr 2, so I had to wait in the hotel I was at the extra day. I reiterated to the AME rep on the phone that the inventory and loading needed to be done in the morning and the AME rep said that was clear and was documented with the shipper.

In the morning of Apr 2, I got a call from Mark (216 258-6963) from American Knights Shipping, who said they were not able to come to perform the inventory and load my goods. I immediately emailed, called, and texted AME. Mark wanted to do the inventory and loading of goods early the next week? (Mon? Tue?...) (It was Tues when they finally loaded the truck).

I dialed Kyle Lavelle’s direct phone because I told him I would be calling him if there were problems as he agreed to that in our earlier discussions. THIS SITUATION WAS A PROBLEM. Now I was faced with staying two extra days in a hotel, and missing a family get-together that evening. In my communications with AME, I asked for emergency help (leaving a message). I had already checked out of the hotel and had to make a decision whether to check back in, but I was not giving up on getting the problem solved.

After several calls, leaving voice mails, text, and email, etc with AME, and calls back and forth with Mark from American Knights, Mark said he would come at noon. I changed my flight to accommodate a few hours later. I was able to leave my luggage at the hotel so I took a taxi to the storage place. There I waited two hours. I texted and left a phone mail for AME during that time with the concern that Mark had not shown up. I adjusted my flight again. Finally I was able to contact Mark by phone who “readjusted” his time to be 2:30pm. Not so, after a few more calls with Mark, he showed up at a little before 4pm and causing me to have to reschedule a new airline ticked in the late evening (I believe leaving at 9pm).

Mark was very regretful and apologetic to me for being so late and not being able to load anything. He came in a car to do inventory only - and then said they would pick up the shipment on Monday (?). So I would not be on hand to watch the truck being loaded. He hurriedly made out an inventory list, which was mostly unreadable, especially through the carbon copies. We also talked about the 55” Samsung TV which was lightly wrapped in a blanked in the storage unit. He assured me that he would have it wrapped properly for transport since the wrapping was inadequate.

The inventory was “completed” according to Mark, though exceedingly hurried. I did not have a chance to go over it thoroughly – it was hard to read. (The lock and key was supposed to be sent to me in Texas but I did not receive). Mark had the goods picked upon Tues morning, which is specified on one of the documents.

Upon receipt the unloaders had a clear space from the garage door into the house I was watching and saw the TV laying in the truck laying on one of its corners. It was not wrapped the way Mark said it would be. I notice the screen was busted.

I caught the last flight out that evening missing a significant family gathering- very unpleasant, full of anxiety. No opportunity to view the loading.

Therefore, I hold AME responsible.

I also hold AME responsible, because of the delay and rush, causing the TV to not be adequately prepare for travel. I was not able to be at the storage facility for loading the truck.

[some omitted due to length]

AME should compensate me for the loss of the TV ($650) and the loss due to changing flights multiple times (approx. $350) – due to the incompetence of not following the customer’s instructions and not providing service in the agreed upon time frame.

A few weeks later, I repeatedly tried to call Kyle from AME. I left phone messages, sent texts, emails, etc. I tried all the numbers he gave me. I got though a few times and someone answered and I asked for Mark; they said he was there and they would go get him – but then it was diverted to someone else or I was asked to call back. THEY COULD AT LEAST LISTEN TO MY STORY!

I should be compensated with the reimbursement of the $991.99 payment I made to AME.

Regards, Richard Breitling

Long-distance move from Strongsville, OH to Cedar Creek, TX

Ohio to TX move - AMR will not take responsibility

I used them for a move from Ohio to Texas. The sales pitch by Kyle was convincing and I he agreed if I had problems that I would call him directly. I was delayed one day on pickup, kind of routine as they went to the next "alternate" day. I was told in the morning they could not pick up my belongings from the storage area. I texted AME, called and left messages.

After begging the shipper they hired, he said he would come at 12 noon. I waited for 2 hours. He adjusted his time to 2:30, and finally got there at just before 4. This multiple "adjustments" caused me to delay a flight I had 3 times and cost me $350. When the shipper came he did so without a truck and said he would inventory everything and then ship it next week. I would not be there when loading the truck. I mention that a large screened TV needed better wrapping, and he said he would do it. So I gave the key to the storage area to him after he hurriedly filled out an inventory sheet which you can barely read.

Upon receiving the goods in Texas, I notice the TV was NOT wrapped properly and the screen was busted. If I had been there, it would have been properly wrapped but apparently the shipping rep, Mark, did not remember to wrap it.

I tried numerous time over several weeks to contact Kyle, the original contact from AME and I was always redirected or told to call back. He did not keep his word. After the sale, he was null and void.

This get my ire up when they don't keep their word. This whole move cost me a $650 TV plus another $350 of rescheduled flights. It was agreed that they would finish before my original flight took off. No schedule was met, I could not call for help, they wouldn't help me afterwards, and it cost me another $1K. People who will not follow through are also not honest.

I will escalate this issue as it is not right for people to get a chance to present their side - hidden behind legaleze. I contested the charge on my credit card, but you almost have to have a legal document and details of everything that went on.

If you venture to use this company, record every conversation, track every detail. I will be active in spreading the word about this company until they reimburse me the $1K I lost.

Official company response

First, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that the customer may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. We are a licensed interstate broker with the Department of Transportation (DOT) as stated in our binding estimate and on our website. We partner with carriers across the United States that are also licensed and insured to facilitate your move.

We apologize that you were not able to speak with your representative after booking and discuss the matters of your move with him directly. But to ensure that everything is handled appropriately, our customer service team is your point of contact after booking your move. You were in constant contact with them from booking to delivery. I have reviewed your file and see that our customer service team spoke with you on Saturday 4/2/22 at 10 AM when you received the information that the truck still had a delay and would not be arriving. After speaking with both you and the foreman, both parties agreed to have the foreman come and inventory the storage unit, provide the Bill of Lading, and collect the key so they have access to the unit on Monday for loading.

We are sorry to hear about your TV being broken. I do see in the notes that you had expressed to our quality assurance team that you already had a box for the TV, and that is the reason the driver did not arrive with one. All TVs have to go into boxes to be protected during the move. Unfortunately, a couple of blankets would not be enough protection due to the vibrations on the trucks, and the possibility of the load shifting during transit.

After reviewing your paperwork I see that there were no additional charges added to your estimate and everything had been loaded. We did offer compensation for the loss of your TV but in turn, you disputed the charges and we were not able to process that reimbursement. We are sorry that we couldn’t come to a happy agreement on the outcome of your move. We do appreciate your feedback whether it’s positive or negative, and the insight we need to move forward and provide a better service. And we wish you the best in your new destination.

I will recommend to all of my friends.

Even though I loved living in New Jersey, I was looking forward to moving back to Ohio to be near my family. I thought I had a mover lined up and ready to go. Unfortunately, when I called to confirm, the mover had no notice of my reservation. That’s when American Moving Experts came to the rescue. They were able to meet my timeline for moving on short notice at a very competitive price of $2500. Not only were their employees very professional and careful with all of my belongings, but they also worked quickly and my move went off without a hitch. American Moving Experts is definitely a company I would use again and I will recommend to all of my friends.

American Moving Experts is the worst in every Categories.

I don't want to consider them as a moving company. Their name is American moving Experts. Sometimes they use other name to keep their fake business running. In my cases they didn't do nothing besides very obvious cheating and lying. I found out them as a scammer. Because, they didn't do nothing for me at all as they promised. They took big deposit from me by blatantly lying. They didn't tell me at all that they are only broker not the actual mover. They are extremely dishonest and not having any business ethics. They are very sweet talker until they get your deposit. As soon as the got your money, they will be the worst people in the planet. They customer service knows very well how to misbehave with their customer after getting your deposit.

They took $1630 from me but kept all of my money without giving me any service. They promised me to complete my entire move for $5215.82 but at pick up time they demanded $7916 which was extra $ 2701. They normally take big deposit from you and make you hostage. Their paid agent write good reviews for them to keep the reviews looks good. That's the part of their scam to attract innocent new customers. I don't believe anyone got any good service form them at all. I don't understand at all how they can continue their cheating business without any business morality for long time. So please be aware of them and save your hard earn money.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $7916

Official company response

First, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that the customer may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. We are a fully licensed and bonded moving broker and that is stated in our binding estimate and on our website and we never promised to be the actual mover of your belongings. But we do handle all the advertising, bookings, and customer service for certain carriers within our network across the country. All companies in this industry are all partnered up (carriers and brokers) to make these long distance moves possible.

Our estimates are all based on the inventory that you provide during your booking and quality assurance (QA) appointments. Everything that can take up space on the truck has to be accounted for, down to a broom, small box, vacuum cleaner, or shoe rack. I do understand that during your quality assurance call you wanted to add on additional items but you were not happy about the price increase. So you then removed them to help cut the cost.

On the day of pick up the driver arrived and noticed that there were additional items that would need to be on the truck, and then provided you with a written revised estimate from 669 cubic feet to 1400 cubic feet as a worst case scenario. That is standard in our industry if there are additional items not listed on your binding estimate, or items that are larger in size per the Department of Transportation. At that time you sent the driver away instead of contacting our office for assistance during your pick up. Regardless of it being Sunday we have certain steps in place to still assist you during Sundays and Major Holidays when our office is closed. That was confirmed with you directly over the phone, and you were sent a pick up email with all the information listed as well.

You went ahead and emailed your representative at 8:02pm on Sunday, instead of customer service, and demanded a full refund of your deposit.

On 8/9/21 our customer service manager reached out to you and offered to send another carrier to pick you up, but you declined. She let you know that per our written agreement you had the choice to move forward with the original estimate and load to the 669cf or pay for the additional space needed for the additional items not listed on your original estimate. But since you refused both, that is considered refusal of services, and per our binding estimate which you signed states that “if you refuse services at the pick up location your deposit is nonrefundable”. But she then let you know that she was going to speak with finance and see if there was any way to compensate you. At that time she went ahead and offered you a 50% refund, which you told her that you wanted full reimbursement or nothing at all. And at that time you had mentioned to her that you would just dispute the charges.

On 8/10/21- you sent an email to our customer service and stated that no services were provided and that you wanted a full refund of your deposit.

However services were rendered on 8/8/21- when the carrier arrived for pick up, 8/5/21- during your QA appointment, 7/27/21- your booking appointment that took two days of working with you till you went into booked status, 8/7/21 customer service doing your pick up call.

So again we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you and your family however we were not used as your liaison during the pick up process which we were hired to do. Sincerely American Moving Experts

STAY AWAY IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR POSSESSIONS

STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN MOVING EXPERTS! Their sales agents will email you saying that they have a truck in the area and that it works out for both parties. NOT TRUE, THIS IS A SALES PLOY.

We moved from Colorado to Michigan. The sales team will tell you want you want to hear to get you to sign the contract. They are a broker and not an actually moving company. They did not explicitly tell us that until the 11th hour. They selected a company that was picking up orders and not delivering them. The sales team said we would have our items 7-9 days after pick-up but it ended up being more like 45 days. Their customer service is horrible, as all they do is act as a middle person not caring that you are living without the possessions you work so hard in life to obtain. They record your conversations without your consent

FYI, once you contract with the moving company, your contract with AME is essentially null and void, and they wipe their hands of you.

These people have the lowest prices for a reason, they take what they from you and move onto the next customer. KEEP SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER COMPANY THAT ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT YOUR MOVE.

In the end we asked for a refund, and their communication went silent. Let's see if this company has any moral compass and actually provides a refund, or even a partial refund for the mental damages this company put us through.

FYI, if you read closely into the reviews, they all seem to read the same. I think they are manufactured and fake. Read the one-star reviews for the true colors of this company.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2300

Official company response

First, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that the customer may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. We are a licensed interstate broker with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and that is listed in our binding estimate and on our website. We partner with carriers across the United States that are also licensed and insured to facilitate your move. Carriers are truck drivers, and they depend on brokers to help with advertising, marketing, booking, and customer service.

We thank you for the feedback about your move, and we will use it to make the necessary changes in our booking department, and dispatch department. To start we have taken actions against the carrier so that he can not do this to other clients. We do apologize that you were at the mercy of this experience. We have not had problems with them in the past. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

I reviewed your file and paperwork and found that your representative went above and beyond to give you a good move. She worked with you and your wife for four days before you were put into booked status. She set up additional coverage for your move, but you were able to secure that between two different policies that you currently hold. Then during quality assurance, you added on an additional 128 cubic feet to your previous inventory. But she made it very clear that it is a space reservation, and that if you add anything to the inventory that the price would be adjusted appropriately.

On the day of pick-up, we received no notification that there was a problem at pick-up. We confirm your pick-up with you the day before with a call and a follow-up email with all the pick-up information. Including if there is a problem to please reach out to us before signing any paperwork either by phone or email. We offer 24-hour customer service, it may take us a few minutes to reach back out after hours, but we always do.

Then you called customer service for an update for delivery, and at that time she informed you there was not an update. At that time you informed us that you told our representative you wanted delivery on 9/10, and she did note that on your file and put the request in as well. But on your paperwork, you stated to the driver that you wanted delivery ASAP, not the date that you had provided to our representative. Delivery is a request and referred to as your first available delivery date (FADD). That is the first day that you may accept your belongings, and based on that date the movers can coordinate the delivery. If there is a truck loading and heading on that route then your belongings may get loaded onto that truck and be dispatched for delivery.

Then we continued to answer your phone calls and email in customer service, and reach out to the carrier to get the updates for delivery. But during that timeframe, COVID hit that office and the drivers, which put a hold on all loads coming out of that facility. You spoke with one of the owners at the carrier facility as well and he informed you that it would be another week or two before delivery. And then the next conversation with the carrier he was still having a family emergency. COVID is not to be taken lightly, and they did the right thing by protecting the general public and not facilitating moves during that time.

Overall, we did the job that we were hired to do as your moving broker. We provided you with a detailed inventory list, a binding estimate, a licensed and authorized household goods carrier with the DOT, and we provided you with customer service through the course of your move. Unfortunately, there were additional items that were picked up which cause the price increase, you did not provide the same FADD to the carrier that you provided to our representative, and COVID hit that facility. Those are situations outside of our control. The owner stated that he apologized, and provided a refund to you for his unfortunate actions during your move. He did state to us that it was not our doing, but it is his and he apologized to us as well.

That carrier will remain “out of service” with our company because of this outcome. We are a family-owned and operated business and greatly appreciate your feedback about this. Again we truly apologize for the inconvenience this put you and your family through.

Move from Chicago to Florida

Worse experience ever! Total nightmare. Once they get you signed on a contract it’s all down hill from there. Very unprofessional, Late on delivery. Items just thrown on truck and delivery was dropped of on sidewalk because truck driver refused to pull into complex that big trucks pull into everyday. Would never, ever recommend American Moving Experts

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $3500

Official company response

First, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that the customer may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. I have listened to the recordings from your booking call, and your quality assurance calls. I understand that you wished to have everything delivered to your new residence the next day after pick up, and that is just not possible based on the 1239 miles give or take that your belongings would have to travel, and your quality assurance representative explained that to you in detail. She also let you know the drivers can only drive up to 500 mile a day then they have to rest for 8 hours. Now as far as the carrier “throwing your belongings on the truck” is hard to believe because they are an A class carrier with an A+ on the BBB. And in reference to the “delivery being left on the sidewalk” sounds like you refused to pay for additional fees that may come into play such as stairs fees or long carry fees. So for example, if the guys have to walk up more than a flight of stairs which is included with your estimate, or more than 75 ft. from the back of the truck into your front door carrying your heavy belongings there would be an additional cost for that labor. But all of that is also stated in your estimate under the section called “Accessorial post contract services not included in your estimate” highlighted in red. Overall, your belongings have been delivered within 15 business days from the day of pick up, and based on your first available delivery date you provided to the driver at the time of pick up. Again we do apologise for any inconvenience this has caused your family. And we appreciate the feedback you have provided us so that we can better explain the process in the future.

This was an enjoyable experience although moving usually is anything but enjoyable! From my initial contact until the finish, I was nothing but pleased. The estimator was prompt and actually interested in my move; the scheduler was so in tune with my needs; and, the personnel who did the job were polite, clean, knowledgeable, prompt, and thorough. What a great company! I am going to share their name with anyone who is interested in moving without all of the fuss and fear. THANK YOU American moving experts!

We considered all our options when selecting who to move with. We have a toddler and lots of stuff, and we were moving during a very hectic period in our lives where we could not handle one extra ounce of stress. Detail and attentiveness from the very first day, communication throughout, and a kind, caring and fast moving team on the day of! I cannot say enough good things about the moving team - they worked efficiently, interacted with our family members, provided direction and advice, and were an absolutely delightful addition to the moving team. Our final invoice came out to be less than our original quote, and nothing was damaged or even dinged throughout the entire day. THANK YOU American moving experts!
