A1A Moving and Storage

This was the worst move I have ever seen, they quoted me 1500 just to get them to show up, they then showed up 4 hours early, they quoted me around 600 to 900 cubic feet. When they picked it up they changed my contract and charged me 7200 dollars….. and then held my items for ransom. I paid my original 50% down, with the new cost they threaten me over 4 phone calls saying they will take my stuff and take me to court. We asked them to be patient with us as we did not originally budget for $7200. They charged me for storage and sent me emails saying I never paid. The staff was awful and threatening you as well as never respond to emails as well as phone calls. I was promised that the storage was climate controlled it was not. Movers showed up 5 months later and took us 40 days for some one just to pick up a phone to schedule a deliver. Furniture was complete broken upon arrival, and some items didn’t even show up. This mover stole my stuff as well as cause over 20,000 in damage to furniture damage and missing items. They will miss quote you a cheap deal and when they load your items and then charge you 5x and the amount. I filed an insurance claim but that takes about 90 days and I have no hope that they will even cover 99% of the damage or missing items. If you want to burn your money, and ruin your entire furniture, well look no further .

I would avoid these movers, the sales team is awful. Now to the move, they showed up very professional immediately surveyed everything to be moved. We did sign up for white glove service which for packing they didn’t pack anything, We did make a few changes as to what we were moving but did not think it wa s that much. The quote based on the phone inventory was for 541cf. The actual movers said it was 1500 cf. as you can imagine this was a huge change in price. What do you say at the point, we already gave notice and were driving to Texas the next day, we had to move forward. They got everything with no issues We closed on our house a 4 months later. I called dispatch and asked for our stuff to get on the road. 40 days later I called to follow up and nothing had happened. Finally a week after that call our stuff was on the road. The driver showed up and was very polite full with no labor to help so I had to jump in and help with the move There is other misc damage. I emailed the company and the response was to file a claim via a this party. As items were coming in I measured them, the total cf was under 500cf. Not very happy! So, if you want to take a risk with this company, be warned.

Do not use this company. It was the worst experience ever. They made promises and all was a lie. I had my moved scheduled months for a date and at the last minute they tried to come a day later. Gave me a quote and David the guy running the job came in and gave me a new quote after accessing everything for $1000 more. After loading all my stuff bumped it up another $500. He argued with me the entire time with every question I asked him. At the end told me they would only accept cash. I have never had a mover only take cash. They refused a credit card or check. He used one of my 5x7 rugs to wrap glass in and ruined it. They do not care about you one bit. Do not use this company or you will be sorry. A one bedroom should not cost $4500. David not only ripped me off but told me I complained about him when I callled the company to find out why I could not use my credit card. I never complained and it turned into another arguement. He treated me with disrespect the entire day. I finally had to tell him to leave me alone and stop fighting with me. After I signed all the paperwork he walked away and tried not giving me any copies until I asked. He would not provide the address of the company and told me he didn't know it? Really? You work for them? I have never experience since bad treatment and disrespect from a company. They lie and rip you off. They don't care or replace anything that gets broken or ruined. All I can say is do not use this company.

I had an initial move estimate completed over the phone for 716 Cubic feet. Per their rules, I was allowed to update the the cubic feet at any time up to 72 hours prior. I did so and the new estimate was for 830 cu feet. The storage fee for both estimates remained the same at $150-$200 per month.

They packed and moved my stuff into their truck. After everything was inside they told me they only had the original estimate and refused to honor my line haul discount since the cubic feet went up. What could I do at this point? Lease is up and stuff is on the truck. They claim I shouldn't have let them take the stuff if I didn't like the loss of the discount.

Further they tripled the storage fee to $600 p/mo. They claim the DOT will not allow them to charge the original storage fee and they must charge me more and this conveniently occurred right after my my move which is why I was quoted a lower price by Ian O'Reilly. Are we supposed to believe the DOT is in the business of mandating what private companies charge and that A1A was charging too little?

Their CS agent Steve Goldberg told me "I wasn't a priority" and never returned my calls thereafter. I finally got in touch with Stephanie who told me she was a CS manager who works with Steve apparently basically said "tough luck" after saying "Adios Mio" when I tried to explain why this is unfair.

Moving is always a stressful experience and I expect certain charges to be over the estimates. But this is egregious. Save yourself the hassle and learn from my experience. Choose someone other than A1A Movers for your move.

June 2021 Review.

This company is a waste of time and money. The final cost of my move was way beyond the estimate. If you use this company, you essentially need to keep another company on standby in case your price changes substantially. The movers come into your apartment and immediately start a game where they try to overcharge you. Before loading even started, the main mover remarked ‘this move will cost about $3000. It won’t be more than $3000, but it will be close to $3000.’ My move was on a Saturday and I needed to reach my final destination by Monday. Unfortunately, I could not book another moving company by this point.

My initial estimate was about $1900 but I ended up paying about $2900.

I was charged approximately $400 for labor and when I tried to dispute this with the company was told there was nothing they could do because the money goes ‘directly to the pockets of the movers.’ I was also told there was nothing the company could do about a fuel surcharge (approximately $200) which was tacked on to my final bill because the movers could not find parking. If I had known I needed to find parking beforehand, I would have arranged this. Because the movers could not find parking on the day of the move, I was charged another $150 ‘long carry’ fee. I was charged about $200 due to my belongings allegedly taking up more than my initially estimated cubic feet, and I wish I had taken a look at the truck to see how it was packed as opposed to believing what the movers claimed.

I called the company twice and left messages the Monday after the move and my call was not returned. When I finally reached them Wednesday, the alleged manager replied ‘there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this contract’ when I voiced my points, essentially being flippant when I was charged approximately $900 more than my estimate. I used the company two years ago and paid less money despite having more items. My experience two years ago was much better.

Even with inflation, my balance this time was too high.

Move from Irvine, CA to Austin, TX

I had horrible experience with the service this company had provided. Right from the start where Sales team contact you to the time when a team of movers arrive at your place. The first thing they try to do is to plan your move on the last day when you have to actually move to a new place. They put you on the spot where you are left with nothing but to only avail there service.

Problem with the Sales team: They will give you a quote based on the list of items which you are planning to move. They will provide you a quote accordingly. They never send anyone in physical to your place to take a look as what they have collected the information from you is actually the same for which the quote is prepared. In my case, they gave me a quote ~$3200 based on the list of items and the respective count. I confirmed everything over emails about the charges for extra stairs etc. and everything is considered and quote is provided to me then. The sales representative (Anne Mary) really had problem in speaking English, so that's why i was doing most of the conversation over emails, in writing.

Problem with Movers/Pickup&Delivery Team: This team is the real fraud. The guy name David is the one who's running the show. The last thing you want to experience is someone being rude, dis-respectful. He actually mis-behaved. If indeed that would not have been the last day, I would have simply thrown this guy out of my place. He's such a crap person. The problem starts when he arrived in the apartment, he looked at the things as said this quote is not correct. Well, i said this is what is shared by your company and not prepared by me. Then he said that he doesn't know, but this whole move will take ~$4500. Then I tried to contact the sales team and moving company but no one picked up my call or responded my emails. This proves this whole is a setup of this moving company to cheat the customers. Well, after much of arguments i had no choice but to move ahead. The other setup they do is to take signature on multiple papers without telling you much about them and will say this is part of the move. They never share those/copies of those documnets with you. What i have realized that if they break something or it's missing during the delivery they will just fill up those papers to match the delivery details and say this was either already damaged or was never there. Again a very nicely planned setup by this company.

The other problem is that the quality of service they provide. They not only broke couple of items in the move but also 3-4 large sizez boxes are missing. When i tried to contact them and check about them, the company said they will check in the storage unit and will let you know. They never come back with the details.

If you try to contact customer care, first they will not pickup the calls, if they pickup they put you on long holds and eventually drop your calls.

ALL IN ALL THIS IS A FRAUD THEY ARE DOING

A1A Moving company and his team did a wonderful job moving our 2 BR apartment with ~50 boxes and several large pieces of furniture. They were careful, thorough, and diligent. It was our first time using professional movers and it made our day so much easier and less stressful. We would definitely recommend A1A Moving company and use them again, the process was transparent and they were kind people to work with. It is clear they take their work seriously and do so with integrity.
