Long-distance move from Delaware to Florida

Zippy Shell Is the biggest Rip off Company.

This has been the worst nightmare anyone could ever ask for. I was told all of my belonging's (4 bedroom House) could fit in one container. I even told the sales rep that my belongings filled a 26 foot truck from front to the back and from the floor to the roof. One they arrived the container was so small it couldn't of even fitted half of my belongings. Then the container was so damaged that it would of been unsafe to even put anything in it. It took about 20 call's and ten days later to finally speak with a manager. The manager only offered a little over half of what I had already paid back. When I had asked to speak to someone in corp. to help me that was above him, he said that there was no one who was above him. Wrong there is always someone above a manager. I would never use them again or refer them to anyone. It is bad when the driver also said Zippy Shell is one of the worst container companies he had ever delivered for. Zippy Shell will do what ever they can to steal as much of your money as possible. They are a rip off company. and the worst customer service I have ever seen.

Long-distance move from Columbia, MD to Tampa, FL

Absolutely terrible.

Hugely unprofessional. Their support team takes hours to reach, were late in dropping off our shell, and the WORST part is that I called them on the day our shell was supposed to arrive and IT HADN'T EVEN LEFT THE ORIGINATION CITY YET. And we wouldn't have even known had I not reached out to them!! They were unable to give us ANY details on when it might arrive or to let us know when it leaves. I'm considering a lawsuit if they don't handle this properly - we're paying rent on a house we can't move into! Disgusting company - do not use them!

Never Got my Zippy Shell!!

WORST COMPANY, DO NOT USE! We are moving cross-country and booked our zippy shell well in advance. We were supposed to get our zippy shell delivered to us yesterday. We got a the day before confirming they would be here between 10:30-11:30am. 11:30am rolls around, no one is here. We try calling zippy shell, we are on hold for an hr and finally put our number in the "call back list" for them to call back. While we wait, we find out they use HireAHelper so we call them. We sit on hold for another 30 min..finally get someone on the phone who is able to get a hold of our driver. We find out there was a "problem" with the moving truck and he wont be here until 2pm. Ok, 2pm rolls around, still no Zippy Shell. We call the driver (bc I had made sure to get his number) and he says he doesn't know who told us 2pm but he wont be here until at least 4-5pm AND WITHOUT OUR ZIPPY SHELL! He says that he is in a regular moving truck with another customer right now loading their stuff. He says he couldn't fit the zippy shell in the truck so now they want us to inventory all of our stuff (3 bedroom house w/ basement), load it onto this moving truck (with other customers belongings on the same truck!), he would drive it to some location, unload our stuff and then reload it onto a zippy shell. This is NOT what we were told we were getting. We were supposed to get our OWN shell, load it ourselves, make sure everything was packed appropriately and lock it OURSELVES. We FINALLY got a call back from Zippy Shell after calling a second time at 2:15pm. Shaniqua told us they have no way to resolve this for us and they did not have a reason as to why this was occurring just stating that "loose loads" sometimes occurred and there was nothing they could do about it. We told them this is unacceptable and asked if they could deliver our OWN shell tomorrow. We were put on hold for another 45min and then told they would call us back. We got a call from our driver an hour later saying that the move had been cancelled on his end..at this point we STILL had not heard anything from Zippy Shell. WE ARE MOVING CROSS-COUNTRY AND HAVE A HOUSE FULL OF BOXES!! We now have to rent a 26 ft moving truck, tow one of our cars behind it and then drive our other car separately cross country.. thanks Zippy Shell for royally screwing us over! We DO NOT recommend using Zippy Shell as they are completely unreliable and do not deliver the services advertised!

Long-distance move from Greensburg, PA to Naples, FL

Avoid at ALL costs!

They market their long-distance service as being the solution to the associated stress of your move, however they've proven the complete opposite. As it stands, Zippy Shell is the ONLY source of stress involving my move, as I will have waited over a week for them to deliver the storage pod from the local warehouse (after promising an instant turnaround). Oh, and not to mention the fact that the pod I ordered was not what was delivered, and was partnered through a third party. Mind you, I was not informed of ANY of this. The communication with this company is the only thing worse than the service itself. Completely worthless. The icing on the cake though? After their sales team made countless guarantees about immediate delivery, I coordinated this move with 4 other people who drove from different parts of the country to help with the move, and they'll all be gone by the time the pod arrives! Amazing! Stay FAR away from Zippy Shell, and happily pay the extra 20% to go with a real POD if you have the chance. I fully intend to pursue this matter with the ICC and the BBB, and to spread the word as far and wide as I can. AVOID ZIPPY SHELL AT ALL COSTS!

Unbelievably Horrible.

Boy, wish I had read these reviews before choosing them. Been 4 months since they took my stuff and I still don’t have it. Plus they are charging me storage for every month even though the delays are their screw ups. Just try to get someone on the phone. The last call took me 2 hours and 33 minutes on hold. Don’t be fooled by the auto message that they will call you back. They won’t. They hold your stuff hostage and you will pay much more than the original contract to get it back.

Long-distance move from Houston, TX to Salt Lake City, UT

This company doesn't even deserve a 1 star rating.

This review does not apply to the local branches, as they are simply storage facilities and do not schedule or deal with customer service. This applies to Zippy Shell on a national level. This company is HORRIFIC! Terrible service, terrible business model. Before you book with zippy shell you need to understand how the model works. A local branch is scheduled to drop you off a shell, you pack it and they pick it up. Next Zippy Shell starts to "bid" out a price to 18-wheeler freight drivers at a low price to have your stuff relocated. If no one takes the bid they increase the price until its picked up. Lastly once your stuff arrives at the destination they must schedule it to be delivered. The guaranteed delivery date is NOT guaranteed. They do not care about your stuff or when it gets there. They bid for drivers at the lowest possible amount, which takes more time than they estimate. It took our things over a month to get to our location (over 20 days after the guaranteed date). Every time we called for an update no one could tell us where our stuff was or when we would receive it. Once our stuff actually made it to the destination, Zippy Shell didn't even inform us, we had to drive to the warehouse to confirm our stuff made it because no one would answer the phone. They then proceeded to tell us we had to schedule a delivery date and hey were "slammed" at the moment. So tired of waiting we ended up renting a truck and moving our stuff out of the shell ourselves. We were told by management we would receive a Per Diem refund for each day it was late which did not happen. They also proceeded to charge us extra for storage because of how late they were. We've recommended to all of our friends and family that they use a different moving company. This company is an absolute nightmare.

Long-distance move from Des Moines, IA to Phoenix, AZ

Horribly company.

Zippy Shell is the worst company to choose for moving! Do not choose this company!

We have recently moved from Des Moines, IA to Phoenix, AZ and decided to choose Zippy Shell as the company to help us with this long distance move. We packed all of our belongings into a pod and it was picked up on 6/12/20. We were told that 6/26/20 would be the latest it would arrive in Phoenix. At that point, we thought that waiting until the 26th to have our things delivered was too long of a wait.

Unfortunately, we were wrong and our belongings did not arrive at the Phoenix destination facility until 6/30. Zippy Shell never told us that our stuff made it to Phoenix. Instead, we had to call to figure this out. During that call, we were given the opportunity to request delivery days for our pod to be brought to our house. However, we had to give the destination facility a 48hr notice (for unclear reasons). So it seemed that we would be without our belongings for another 2 days. Wrong again! We received an email shortly after that stating that the earliest availability to have our belongings delivered from the Phoenix facility to our house (Also in Phoenix) was July 14-16th. Another two weeks away! We were told we could rent a UHaul and go to the warehouse and pick up our things instead (again giving the warehouse a 48hr notice). Despite all of this, Zippy Shell has refused to offer any sort of adequate compensation (such as paying for the UHaul, etc.)

When it comes time for a move, DO NOT choose this company.

Worst experience ever!

If I could leave no stars I would. Do not give them your business! Apathetic, rude, unprofessional, this company is just pathetic. Never have I had such poor service. Made a cross country move, paid for expedited shipping for delivery on our move in date. Was promised it would be delivered on our move in date. Move in day comes no pod. Call to find out where it is, nobody knows and they don’t know when it will be delivered all of a sudden. Please if you read this review take your business somewhere else. Nothing is worse then having all your belongings lost in transit without a delivery date known of when or if it will be delivered as promised. And then have to deal with unhelpful rude customer service reps awhen you are just trying to find your stuff. Oh yeah and they overcharged me and I still do not have my stuff! Worst company ever! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCREWED OVER!

Zero Stars.

I'm not even sure this is a real business. They dropped off our pod late, which is an error that we had to bring up to them. I shouldn't have to explain why this is a problem, but the biggest problem was that our movers were no longer available because the pod would not be there on the prescribed date. Now our pod is here in the new city. It took them two weeks to get back to us and schedule a date for drop off. During which time THEY CHARGED US FOR TAKING SO LONG. I REPEAT THEY CHARGED US a storage fee because they took over two weeks to schedule the pod.

Local move from Orlando, FL to Pensacola, FL

Terrible company.

Should have seen reviews on here instead of other moving websites(somehow you can't write reviews on them), I can't believe I missed the >100 1 star reviews. In this context it becomes completely my fault but regardless they get a 1 star anyways.

Pushy salesman to try and lock-in the sale promised 10 days with unloading. The contract I signed did have 6-8 transit days and ASAP(no storage) but the delivery date written as TBD but I didn't think anything of it.No issues with the pickup. I call 2 days before the delivery date because I hadn't received any update and get told "it's showing to be at destination warehouse on "xday" (14 transit days) but we'll need 24-48 hours to get movers" after you pick a date. They put a note to schedule the unloading ASAP. I get billed 1 month storage at some point that week (stuff isn't even in storage as far as I know).

1 week after the supposed arrival estimate (21 transit days) I get an email that they were arrived at destination warehouse. Of course I'm not trusting them about delivery so I call the next day and nobody has scheduled anything yet or started the process. The next day I get a confirmed delivery date 1 week in the future (28 days total). I'm not one of those "bring me the manager" people that complain the problem is that at every point they've been the ones promising things and not following through. I still haven't gotten my stuff but I assume the local movers can do an okay job in a couple of days.

Long-distance move from San Francisco, CA to Royal Oak, MI

Worst Moving Company Ever.

Absolutely terrible experience with Zippy Shell. Terms of contract were completely ignored. 9-11 business day arrival of container turned into 24 business days. I asked for 1 overnight storage at destination for unloading - they gave me 5 days, unless I wanted to wait another 2 weeks. Had to deal with the police to keep the bulky container on the street for that long. Their support line is terrible - after being on hold forever, Kyle the "resolution manager" was completely unhelpful and said the waiting was our only option, because in a tiny link to the company's policies on the contract, all scheduling and timelines were "subject to availability". It doesn't even matter what the terms of your contract are, they just do what they want with your stuff. Absolute nightmare - have never dealt with a company worse. Please do not use them.

Long-distance move from West Chester, PA to Asheville, NC

I only WISH I could give zero stars!

Where to even start..

1) I was told by two different people that they would bring a lock (something promised by the company) when they picked up my container, as they failed to do it when they dropped it off for packing. Guess what, they didn't bring it, which means my container was sitting at a storage facility completely unprotected..that's just a little appetizer.

2) The customer service is appalling! Don't expect to speak with a live human for DAYS after you try to reach out to them.

3) I hope you're ready to waste a lot of your time with ZippyShell. My container was scheduled to be delivered on 7/9 between 8-noon. No one ever showed up, and no one called me. I had to hunt down the Charlotte location's phone number and I had to call and ask where my unit was. The man on the other line said he "forgot to schedule my delivery" and had some workers come in to drive my unit from Charlotte to Asheville. When I asked why I hadn't been called, the only answer he gave me was "it's his second week as manager." This obviously significantly delayed the delivery (again..a simple phone call wouldn't have been so hard, would it?) So, I am now missing an entire day of work waiting on delivery that was supposed to happen before noon. I spoke with a saccharin-sweet (ever so annoying) customer service rep who told me "oh no, they don't actually have to be there until 5, and we can't reimburse you any money." If they have ALL DAMN DAY to drop off the container, then schedule for 8-noon (also, no where on my confirmation email did it say they had until 5. I'm calling bullshit. I'm glad Zippy Shell can make money off of my while I'm missing work and not getting paid.

I'm appalled by the way ZippyShell handles their customers and their commitments. I cannot understand how this company is still in business.

Long-distance move from Marysville, CA to San Antonio, TX

Horrible Company.

I want to be 100% transparent. My issues with Zippy Shell/1-800-PACK-RAT are largely based off horrible Customer care and Customer Service. I got quotes from both PACK-RAT and Zippy Shell, and decided to go with Zippy because it was cheaper. The price was by far the best I found, and I did lots of research. I moved from Northern California to Texas in the middle of the summer (busy season). I looked at PODS, U-Pack, U-Box, and plenty of smaller-name companies. PACK-RAT ranged about average to barely below average, and Zippy was the cheapest. The day of container delivery PACK-RAT showed up, and so begin all the nightmares.

Now for the bad stuff which heavily outweighs the good:

- At first, I was glad I received PACK-RAT containers, since they looked to be much better quality and a tad bigger than expected. Little did I know it would be the beginning of a nightmare move. I received ZERO notice that I should expect PACK-RAT containers. So now I had to deal with Zippy Customer Service for PACK-RAT services. If I would've known how complicated it would all be then, I would've declined reception of the containers.

- Since I booked through Zippy, I was told that I could not schedule delivery until my containers had arrived at the destination warehouse. They told me that once I received such notification, that I could call and schedule the delivery and that it would take between 72 hrs and up to a week for delivery. Well since I had PACK-RAT containers, once I received notification they were at destination warehouse, I called to request 3 different dates ranging from 72 hrs to a week later and they submitted the "request" to the warehouse to see what they could do, to which I got a response that it would be 3 weeks out instead. This would put me over the 30 day mark that's included, meaning I would have to pay for another 30 day rental on the containers. I called what seems like a thousand times to see if there was something they could do. For the first few times, I was told that it was definitely fixable and that they would submit a "request" to expedite delivery. At the end of the day, I had to wait the full 3 weeks, BUT I ended up calling PACK-RAT Customer Service directly and found out that they actually set up delivery at destination at the same time as they set up pick up at origin location..which just added to my anger.

- I get partially reimbursed for my move, and as such, part of the quote I requested included weight tickets for both full and empty containers. I called twice before receiving the containers to make sure everything was on track for delivery and weight tickets, and was reassured it was. A few days after they picked up the containers I called again to make sure they were weighed, since I hadn't received the weight tickets, and I was told that they would put a "request" in to inquire the status, to which I received an email back stating that the weight tickets were NOT part of the services requested, and that they would have to be completed at the destination warehouse and charge me extra for. At this point I was already skeptical of their ability to do anything right, so I was calling every few days to check on the status of everything, which every rep, and even a resolution specialist supervisor, reassured me everything was great every time. Once my delivery was FINALLY scheduled, I had to visit the warehouse on the scheduled day of delivery because they were MIA, and they told me that the weight scale was not open on weekends and that they did not know why my containers were scheduled for that day since they needed weight tickets.

- As you noticed, I put "request" in quotations. Both Zippy and PACK-RAT only have one number you can call. No option for different departments, or information on HQ. Just Customer Service. Anytime you want anything done, these reps have to put in a "request" to the department in question and that's all they can do. One rep told me he was frustrated with the system because they have no way of contacting someone from those departments to follow up, they are just able to submit the request and hope that department gets the request and fulfills it in the time that the reps are trained to relay to us. Which, let me tell you, they never do. Anything you try to do (request delivery date, pick up date, get billing information, even requesting to talk to a freaking supervisor/manager) always takes at least 3 days due to their dumb request system. Which brings me to my next point; Customer Service.

- I am not saying that all customers are always right, but when you see the amount of mess-ups in my account made by the company, if I request to talk to a supervisor or manager who can do more than a phone rep, they should at least say they will forward my "request." Yet I had 2 reps who just kept repeating that "a manager will not be able to change the dates anyway" over and over to me.

Long-distance move from Charlotte, NC to Minneapolis, MN

Ridiculously long transit with no tracking.

TLDR: Zippy is cheaper than other moving services, but if you want a company that accurately keeps track of your stuff and delivers it in a timely manner, GO ELSEWHERE.

I hate to be a Karen, but I have a LOT of complaints to get off my chest. I signed a moving agreement several months ago, from NC to MN. I told them I planned to move in the week of 7/1. We planned for my container to be picked up for transit on 6/24, and they gave me no reason to think that date wouldn't work with my arrival expectations, and gave me an estimate of 8-10 days for transit. Tbh, I can't recall if they said "business" days or not, but they definitely said 8-10. I will say my moving agreement listed "8-12 business days" as the transit time, so when it didn't arrive the first week of July like I'd hoped, I didn't complain. But it has now been almost THREE. WEEKS. and my things have yet to arrive. I would've been fine with scheduling pick-up earlier in June, but again, they gave me no reason to think 6/24 pick-up wouldn't get my things to MN by the time I got to my new apt.

Additionally, at NO POINT when scheduling my move did they tell me that the "transit time" is just from warehouse to warehouse- only during one of my calls for updates did they tell me there is an ADDITIONAL 3-4 days from when it arrives at the local warehouse to when it's brought to my apt in the "busy season"- I have no idea why it takes that long when I'm self-unloading, so all they'd need to do is drive it out and drop it off. They also made no mention of the fact that they do NO work over the weekend, so it can only be dropped off at my place M-F, AND of the fact that they don't provide tracking of your stuff!! What kind of moving company can't track your stuff, when darn near everything shipped these days can be tracked?? I called multiple times over the weeks to see if they could give me any updates, and they gave me no indication of where my container was at, or any idea of when within that 8-12 day range it might arrive. Finally when I called on 7/8, I was told it would arrive Friday, 7/10 at the warehouse (the 12th of the "8-12 business days"), but that they don't do same-day drop off, and even though I already knew that I absolutely needed it to arrive by Monday 7/13 and so wanted it dropped off then, she could only make a note in my account, and I would still have to call after getting email confirmation of its arrival on Friday to ask them to bring it to my apartment on Monday. Only, Friday rolled around and I didn't get an email. I called Friday afternoon with no response (not the first time, I've left messages before and they've literally taken up to two days to get back to me), and did not hear back again until I called and left another message today (Sunday). Then I was told that not only had my things not arrived yet (proving their "8-12" is a load of BS), but they STILL could give me no idea when it would arrive or where it's currently at, and the employee I spoke with again told me transit is “8-10 business days”.

So I've been living in my empty apartment for 2 weeks already, still have NO idea when I'll be getting my things, and my family who came from out of state to help me unload furniture tomorrow won't be able to help, so I'll have to figure out other arrangements for unloading heavy furniture that won’t cost hundreds. All of this is without going into detail about several other issues I've had with Zippy:

- Multiple agents have said 8-10 business days instead of 8-12 for transit, so clearly even they have no clue what's going on with their company.

- Charged $159 for "storage at the destination warehouse", even though I'd made it abundantly clear I didn't want storage, and it also said in my contract "Monthly storage charges will occur on the 31st day your items are in storage", not any time before then, and I had to call twice to get that charge refunded.

- Had to call multiple times to get my updated invoice with proof of insurance when I added that.

Plan to update my review when my things finally arrive.

Long-distance move from Houston, TX to Indianapolis, IN

Horrible Moving Experience!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! This company is a joke and the worst company I have ever dealt with in my entire life. When you are moving cross-country, the services you get promised and pay for should be delivered, especially when EVERYTHING you own is literally put into their hands.

I should have known there were going to be issues when any of the days I requested for the container to be dropped were not available. Oh, and not everything fit in the container either. Estimates on their containers are a bit small.

Initially received email confirmation that my container arrived to its destination on 7/5. Call on Monday to schedule container delivery..didn't hear anything for two days from them. I call on Wednesday and come to find out, it was coded wrong and it actually didn't leave its origin until 7/8, which was 10 business days (all info provided states typical transit time to arrive to its destination warehouse in 7-10 business days). Container didn't arrive to destination warehouse until the 12th (though ZS told me the 11th..called the receiving warehouse myself to find out accurate information). My container was picked up on June 23rd (technical first business day by them was the 24th..how is it acceptable for it to sit at its origin for almost two weeks? ZS tells me "limited truck availability." B.S..Houston is a hotbed for truck services (but the sales rep also told me when I scheduled service, trucks are easy to schedule in Houston; therefore, conflicting information within the company). When I finally get a confirmation email from the moving team of a delivery date, I was never told or updated on a delivery time. Again, had to call the receiving warehouse (their 3rd party contractor) myself to get any correct information.

What makes it worse is you can barely get the customer care team on the phone and they are unresponsive to emails. I am still waiting on my delivery time info from them (when the container actually unloaded this morning). And to boot, the customer care supervisor (Brandon) is one of the people that gave me inaccurate information on Monday and then dodged my calls the remainder of the week when I asked to speak directly to him.

Do yourself a favor, either rent your own moving truck you can drive yourself or go with a completely different company (not even 1-800-Pack-Rat..this is their parent company). Moving long-distance is already stressful enough and this company provided such a bad customer experience that is made it even worse.

Horrible experience.

Do not do business with them. They made my moving experience extremely stressful. They screwed up my delivery date multiple times, LIED to me about hiring movers to unload my pod at the warehouse, and then forced me to hire a UHaul and unload and move it myself. The things in my pod got filthy from dirt, debris, grime, and mice. This is in addition to all the issues I had with them on the front end regarding destination and pod drop off.

Long-distance move from Orem, UT to Paola, KS

Told two weeks, now it's 44 days.

Customer service reps: awesome.

My experience: ridiculous.

I was told over the phone that my pod would take 8-10 business days to move from the warehouse in my state of origin to the warehouse in my state of destination. It took 17 business days, and now the first day available for my pod to be dropped off from the local warehouse is 44 calendar days after the pod was picked up. I don't need to outline how frustrating it is to live without my property when I have kids to care for, a house to move into, and a job to work. My only options for getting my things earlier are to pay for movers to get my things out of the pod at the warehouse and transported to my house, or go to the warehouse with a rented truck and do it myself. The only reimbursement for this drastic inconvenience is $100 off of the fee for the movers, which is about a 25% discount on only the movers. I'm already $2200 out of pocket for a pod that fits a 2-3 bedroom apartment's worth of stuff, so I already had to rent an additional truck to transport larger, more awkward items. Now I have to buy kitchen equipment, clothes, bedding, and a large number of other basics to get by until my pod arrives, or I pay $300 for movers. Though I can go get my things and time I want, it still feels as if I'm in a very difficult situation.

Military families, only do this for a DItY move as a last resort. The Army was far more reliable and timely. I thought that this option would save me stress, time, and energy. Obviously, I was wrong. To be clear, this was a civilian move.

My husband is now a disabled vet and I need options that make my life a little easier. I'm sick with disappointment.

The customer service reps were unfailingly kind and patient. Hold time was between 10-25+ minutes before initial human contact.

1-800-packrat has joined with this company. My pod has 1-800-packrat on it. You'll get the same experience from both companies but calling the two different companies resulted in different price quotes for me, Zippy Shell being the less expensive option.

Local move within Minnesota

Zippy Shell has moved my stuff and won’t tell me where they move it to.

I have trying for 2 weeks to locate my stuff since Zippy Shell reorganized their warehouses. I want my things delivered to me. The 1-800 # is useless. They could not even locate my account that I have had them for over 18 months. The local number has had me on hold for over 2 hours. My only contact with Zippy Shell before Zippy Shell reorganized has texted me saying someone from the new location will get in touch with me. That was over a week ago. Stay away from this company. My move was approximately 30 miles. God is your only help if you move out of state.

Long-distance move from Clearwater, FL to Glenwood Springs, CO

Move from Florida to Colorado.

We moved from Florida to Colorado. Choice them because of price but was a mistake. The have terrible communication. The process that I was told would happen DID NOT! I had to call numerous of times to find out where my container is. Transit and arrival of container were never accurate. The "team" doesn't know what the left hand is doing from the right. We ended up finally getting out container 2 weeks passed the 2 weeks they said we would get it. The move out was the worst. The hired BellHop and they showed up two hours late and the lead guy rushed loading without already showing up with the items we were told they were going to have to protect our things. He said he had two hours now instead of four to complete the job. Because of this all of our stuff did not make it in the container and we were very upset because we saw and told them there was space and they didn't listen. Very difficult day. After a very difficult time without our things for two weeks we were reimbursed $75 a day including weekends (which they tried not to pay) which totaled $1100. However this was a very difficult process to get them to agree to and I still would not deal with the headache. Now unfortunately there is damage to a few of our pieces and the process to claim them is also a nightmare.

Long-distance move from Alabama to Washington DC

Zippy Shell is a TOTAL NIGHTMARE.

I wish I was able to give them a negative 5 star rating- I contracted with Zippy Shell and had an absolutely horrible experience from the hard sell to book the contract on to the entire process throughout the move.

Zippy Shell’s customer service is pathetic and unprofessional. It is difficult to get a human on the line or to get a human to call you back. The people who do answer are unable to facilitate a response. I don’t know how many total hours I spent on the phone with them waiting for someone to help me.

My move was picked up & was to be moved immediately with 6- 8 days in transit. It was 20 total days getting to me and would have been longer if I hadn’t hounded them. My items did not leave the originating location as contracted. They did not give me a key to my Shell as promised. When it finally got to its destination Zippy Shell wanted 3 additional days to deliver it. I believe all the problematic issues are within the Zippy Shell corporate/billing customer service, and logistics arenas. Zippy Shell doesn’t care about their performance. Zippy Shell provided the absolute worst customer service that I have ever experienced. I hired moving labor for 3 hours at each end of my moves. The actual movers were good and efficient. Outside of the moving labor, NOTHING ELSE went as planned. DO NOT use this company, you will regret it if you do. It is all “I know you are frustrated or so sorry” but no resolution to their horribly mismanaged operations.

I picked this company because the salesperson told me my things would arrive on my move in day which was a Saturday. This is the only reason I went with them.Their inability to make this deadline costs me additional rent and several days away from my job.

I called the company all afternoon until 7:30-8pm on the day my move was finally to arrive. It didn’t arrive. I finally got my stuff when the local vendor interceded after the Zippy Shell Manager promised I would get my things that didn’t arrive. I really hate that the local movers associated with Zippy Shell get a bad rap. The issues all seem totally corporately driven & based on my experience Zippy Shell’s corporate could care less about anything. Using any other company will save you time, frustration, heartbreak and major anxiety.

Long-distance move from Southern Pines, NC to Granbury, TX

Horrible customer service.

No way to contact Raleigh Durham storage center once they take our belongings for almost a year had to call and leave a message and then he text back or maybe call. They have Double billed two different credit cards for 5 months. Corporate call center told me my box was sent to Houston vs Dallas Ft Worth as I requested . Dallas Ft Worth zippy shell number told me they no longer serviced zippy shell and had no idea where my stuff was

Houston location told me it was in DFW. (Houston guy was nice). Drivers are friendly and courteous and good at what they do. After 5 phone calls and being on hold for 20 - 45 minutes each call We have had to contact our credit card companies to dispute charges bevause 'customer service' number does not connect you to accounting dept. Horrible storage and moving experience.

Long-distance move from Brooklyn, NY to Atlanta, GA

Did not deliver - 0 stars - worst company I've ever dealt with.

I made the mistake of using ZippyShell for a move from NYC to GA.

The move was scheduled for Friday morning. The truck missed the agreed-upon time window, I had to call to find out what was happening, then I proceeded to get contradictory and misleading information from ZippyShell. At various points I was told by ZippyShell and their local subcontractor:

1) We have to reschedule for 1 week later.

2) We might be able to find something for Monday.

3) We might be able to find something for the next day.

They jerked us around all weekend, then on Monday they once again said a truck was on the way--when it didn't show up either, I called and they said the next available slot was on the following Friday.

I asked if they were delivering ZippyShells to other customers in NYC while I waited, and they said yes. I asked why I had to wait so long even though they had shells available, and they said they couldn't do anything about it.

Basically, they didn't deliver, then provided such bad information that we wasted days trying to work with them. Meanwhile, I missed work, overstayed my lease (and had to pay a penalty for that), and ended up having to book a different company anyway. Our entire move schedule and work schedules got completely disrupted, and we ended up having to pay a lot more to book a last-minute alternative moving service

ZippyShell did eventually refund my money (although I spent hours even getting that to happen) but when I tried to ask them to help me with the significant damages suffered because of their failure to deliver not only on the agreed day but even 4 days later, they hid behind some language in their contract saying they're not liable for delays. Note that that language isn't even in the contract that you sign; it's buried in a .pdf file that is linked in small print.

They are quite good at the whole "brick wall" approach to questions and complaints, never admitting anything and never providing any real help. It took me weeks to even get somebody to simply say "I'm sorry" (albeit without admitting they did anything wrong). They are never proactive; you have to call them to find out any information.

TLDR; Do NOT use Zippy Shell--they don't deliver, they don't communicate, and after dealing with them for countless hours I can confidently say that they don't really care. Moving sucks, but it doesn't have to suck this much.

Local move from Boynton Beach, FL to Clearwater, FL

Took 14 days to deliver, I only moved 250 miles.

For those who are looking to move and thinking about who to use for a mover, I strongly do not, repeat, DO NOT recommend Zippy Shell. I used them back in 2017 when we moved from San Diego and it was great. I had an assigned customer service guy who shepherd me through the process and gave me step by step update. This time no such customer service. They merged with 1 800 Pack Rat in 2018 and the customer service went down the tubes. First of all, they don’t work on weekends. What moving company doesn’t work on weekends? Very inconvenient. They seem to have very limited resources and it took 14 calendar days to move 250 miles.

Our first bad experience was when we moved out, they hired a third party mover in West Palm Beach to help load the container. These movers were typical stereotype that kept upselling and intimidate you if you don’t listen to them. They said do you want to buy our moving blankets. I said we have some already and asked them to use those. Did they? Nope. They convinced me to buy their rope to tie things down. We told them to load the furniture and the big-ticket items only. They ignored and started packing boxes until they said, we can’t fit all your furniture. Well no kidding. I told them to unload the boxes and load my furniture. The foreman argues saying that it’ll create void in the container and the furniture will shift. I said, okay I will take that risk, unload the boxes and load the furniture. He lost it. Started cursing, shrugging his shoulders, saying “I don’t care, I don’t care” and treating my stuff like garbage. When I got my stuff delivered it had so many scratches.

When I ordered the container, Zippy Shell said it’ll take 4 to 6 days to deliver. After the container left, the customer service said, it’s 4 to 6 business days for transit. Once it arrives the destination warehouse then we can schedule to deliver the container. So, we moved within state line about 250 miles. It took 14 calendar days to deliver my stuff. They must have pulled my container via oxen across Florida.

Good news throughout this process was their third-party mover they used to deliver our stuff. Actually, if I have known this company existed, I may have just used them instead (https://www.hireahelper.com/moving-companies/long-distance/). They assigned to me a dedicated support person. Unfortunately, they didn’t open till 10 am so when they said my container will deliver between 9 to 10 am, I had to wait till after they opened to get an ETA. They showed up at 10:15am, unloaded in 45 minutes with care.

We had too much stuff and didn’t move far enough to justify the long transit period to use Zippy Shell. If you are moving out of an 1-2 bedroom apartment/condo, crossing multiple state lines, and you don’t mind a LONG delivery timeline, Zippy Shell is an affordable solution. I suggest you hire your own loaders/unloaders. Don’t expect customer service to give you an ETA of delivery. It’ll show up when it shows up.

Long-distance move from Salt Lake City, UT to San Francisco, CA

Worst experience, do NOT use them.

To whoever needs to hear this, the price may be comparable, but it is 100% not worth it. DO NOT USE THEM.

They don't communicate with you during the move at all, I called multiple times to check where my unit was and they said they don't have tracking on them. Also, I specifically asked them to provide a lock (which it says on their website that they will), they forgot to give me the key when they picked up our stuff, so I called to have it sent to our new place. They mailed me a key, and when I went to my storage unit, there was no lock. They literally just mailed me a random key.

Also, the storage pods are just big cages, which I didn't realize. I thought they would be actual pods that you can't see in to and that were more protected.

They have now charged me for two months of storage when they shouldn't have. I literally don't have anything in storage with them and they are still charging me. I have called 4 times asking for a refund, they say they issued it and that I will see a credit in 3-5 business days, then I don't see anything come through and end up calling back and going through the same process again and again..still waiting for two refunds now.

Honestly, I will never use Zippy Shell again.

Long-distance move from Little Elm, TX to Key Largo, FL

Worst company I have ever dealt with!

Do not use this company. We had 2 containers scheduled for over a month. On the day they were supposed to arrive we received emails tellings us they would be here. As the day went on I started to get concerned because I did not hear from anyone. I called as was told they will be there. They never showed up and the movers came the next day to load. I had to pay the 2 1/2 hour min and find another company
