Long-distance move from Frisco, TX to Phoenix, AZ

Look for other solutions.

Unfortunately one star is the lowest rating possible, my move from Frisco Texas to Phoenix Arizona was complicated by miss information and extremely poor customer service from Zippy, hidden costs that ultimately made them a much less cost effective solution, I would never use their service again nor could I recommend it to others (Ive moved a lot, long distance moves) and my Zippy experience was by far the least successful, enjoyable).

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Vermont

Worst experience.

Where do I start?

Let's start by saying that I firmly believe that no one in the corporate offices have ever moved themselves and have no idea how to even remotely provide services. Beyond this general complaint, I experienced the following:

(1) Expensive - While I can't hold this against them since most moves are expensive, they beyond the 3k they charged me for a long distance move, they charged an additional $220 after the move because the move was "long haul" (wasn't that already established in the moving cost??) and it was "heavy" (come on..).

(2) Unorganized which led to 12 hour delay from original arrive time - Corporate automatically gives you an estimated arrival window of 8am-12pm. For my shell drop off and loading, my movers arrived at NINE PM. That is TWELVE HOURS LATE. I had to cancel all my own personal travel plans which resulted in an additional $500 to pay for a hotel and flight.

(3) Zero customer service - I tried to call the office to get a sense of when the movers would arrive for my shell drop off and unloading. They said they couldn't provide that nor could they provide me with the local moving company's information so I could call them directly. They said I had to wait until the date of the move to get details on the move such as expected arrival time. When I said that just wasn't going to work, the woman responded with "moving is an all day event. I suggest you pack a lunch and wait." Seriously? All I was looking for was a realistic timeline beyond the generic "8-12" so I could determine if I needed to wake up at 5am to drive to my new home or 7am.

Do NOT use Zippy Shell.

Long-distance move from Oregon to Oklahoma

Unresponsive. No communication. So Angry.

If I could give this company Zero stars, I would!

Where to even start?!
First off, our shell was delivered to us to pack on August 5th.. It's now the 18th, the 10th business day. Our contract says, "ship ASAP/ no storage." What did this company do? They stored it! For over a week!! My husband, myself and our 8 month old moved halfway across the country and we've been living on the floor for over a week. Do you know how hard it is to get any quality rest when you're sleeping on the floor and you have an infant??

WE have had to contact their "Customer care team" multiple times now. WE had to get the ball rolling on getting our stuff shipped on the 6th business day. WE had to check in on them two days later to make sure our stuff was shipped. WE had to call on the 10th business day to see if our stuff had arrived in the destination location.

When WE contacted them on business day 10, 20 minutes before the end of the business day, we were told that our container had arrived. Had they notified us? NOPE! Called them back 30 minutes later to recheck the status of our stuff. OH wait.. our stuff is NOT at the destination location like someone just told us it was. And no one can contact us until MONDAY to give us an update.

So, recap. They don't communicate with their customers. At this point all of my family's earthly possessions are lost. This company is in breach of their own contract. No one that has any power can help us (i.e. Managers.) and there's no phone number for their corporate offices..

I'm more than appalled at this company's lack of service, communication, and response for their customer. No one seems to know anything about what is going on with people's possessions.

DO NOT USE ZIPPY SHELL! They'll screw you and your family over. They might even lose your stuff. BBB will be hearing from me and I expect a FULL investigation into this company to happen.

Local move within California

No need to read, just don't use them.

Container picked up on 7/14. Did not get our stuff until 8/8. Moving from SF to Seattle.

1. When I ordered the container, they said it would fit on my street. Then once the order was placed and contract signed they called me back saying oh the space is too narrow therefore they would be picking the container SAME DAY instead of the agreed 3 day windows for loading..

2. On day they were supposed to drop off container. Supposed to show up 10am. No show and no phone call nothing. I gave them some buffer but finally starting calling their "delivery coordination team" (all of them are complete useless and unhelpful) at 2pm. I called and they tell me to call their warehouse for status. I'm like XXX? Isn't it their job? Anyways, their move coordination team is the most useless bunch of waste of space I have ever had to deal with, PERIOD. They are completely unable to provide any status. The only thing they could do is promise to call you back, which they don't. Finally I looked reviews on yelp and found the contact info for the owner of zippyshell SF region. Basically zippyshell just subcontract the pickup/dropoff to this local moving company. Of the entire moving experience, he's the only one that's been remotely helpful. Anyways, in the end I rescheduled the container to be dropped off the next day because it had delayed to after 6pm.

3. Container pickup. I am supposed to be given 3 day window for loading. Sure enough I get a call on day 2 they want to pick it up. Again, WTH.

4. Contain transport. I was told our container would arrive within 7-10 business days after it is picked up. Well after we got to Washington to our new home and one week goes by and I haven't heard anything I emailed the local dude in cali zippyshell and he got my container was still sitting in his warehouse waiting to be picked up. Our stuff had been just sitting there in SF waiting to be picked up, just sitting there for over 10 days.. according to what I was told when I signed the contract, our stuff would have already arrived but instead it didn't even get pick up by transport.. again what THE f!?

5. Container delivery. Finally our stuff was ready to be delivered 8/8. But once again, they continue to exceed my expectations in over promises and under delivering. They said because they are so busy, they have to pick up the container the same day instead of the promised 3-day unloading window.

6. And finally, the container was NOT wrapped like I was promised. As a result, alot of our stuff were covered in black dust including our baby's stuff. We had to spend a long time wiping clean everything and washing everything else.

Yeah overall this is a very poor experience. By far the worse moving experience. When I moved across country using conventional movers. I did not encounter any of these problems. In hindsight, I would have just haul everything myself renting a truck rather paying this scummy company $2000 to do a terrible job.

Long-distance move from Charlotte, NC to Albuquerque, NM

Cross-country move.

I used Zippy Shell because they could provide a 15' container for my move while competitors couldn't. Overall, I like their system and I think it's a model that is easy to use. My shell was delivered by pickup and the operator was very nice and courteous. The container was picked up the same day, and I had stipulate that I didn’t need storage, I wanted the container sent from Charlotte NC to Albuquerque as soon as possible. Close to the end of the 7-10 business days I hadn’t heard anything so I contacted Zippy by email to find out the status of my shipment, and received a generic reply stating that I would get an email when it arrived at destination. On that 10th business day, I called the support number and was left on hold while the rep tried to figure out where my container was, and apparently could not; I was told to call back in a couple of days, but I started worrying about my belongings being lost. When I called back, again after a hold period, I was told that the shipment still hadn’t left Charlotte, but they would try to get it out as soon as possible. I finally received an email that it had arrived in Albuquerque a full week after the latest date it had originally been scheduled, and because I had to leave for a business trip, I received my goods 35 days after I had sent them.
I understand that delays can occur, and I don’t have too much of a problem with that, but I think that the Zippy staff and operations need to be much much better at communicating what it happening to their clients. It shouldn’t be up to me to contact them repeatedly to get information on the status of my move. I won’t be using them again, but if they had been more proactive about letting me know what was happening, I probably would.

Long-distance move from Washington to Michigan

DO NOT EVER USE ZIPPY SHELL!! HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE COMPANY!! I set up p/u date for Jun 28th, with 3 days to load the shell. After calling several times, I was advised that they did not have a truck to deliver the shell, so my only option was to rent a truck load it and go to warehouse and unload the truck to the shell with a 3-hr. window. The nightmare begins. The warehouse was literally a quarter of a mile down the street. I begged the manager at the warehouse to please bring the shell to my house down the street. When he realized how close my house was, he agreed to drive the shell with his personal truck. He was the only accommodating person in the entire operation. He dropped the shell off at 8am and picked it up at 4:30p the same day, on June 28, 2017. I was grateful for his help (Tom), hoping that the rest of this journey would be a breeze. But the nightmare continued. No communication what so ever. I was advised that my personal belongings would arrive on July 14th, but they did not. I had called several times before and insisted on speaking to a supervisor because no one had called me. Rod finally called me back, insisting that I will receive them on the target date, the 14th. He also said that he would call me every day to keep me aware of what was going on with my shell. He did not! The 14th came and went and no call from Rod. The following weekend I flew back to Seattle and saw my shell still sitting in the warehouse. Tom said he had never received an order date. When I called ZippyShell customer service, they informed me that my shell was in route to Michigan. They weren't aware that I was at the warehouse looking at my shell. I was furious. Needless to say, that call ended in advising me that Rod would call me back. I called Rod several times as well as customer service, and was told a different story every time. Their only response was that I would get a credit of $150.00 if they did not deliver it by the original delivery date. When I returned back to Michigan, I called Tom (manager of warehouse) and asked him to please call me when he gets an order for pickup. By the July 20th, the fone calls were consisted with conflicting stories. I was advised that my shell was here in Michigan, but I had to now call them and set up a delivery date. None of this made since, especially when I had been talking to "Rod" the supervisor, who insisted on personally handling my shell delivery. When I finally talked to him a week later, he informed me that I did in fact need to call and schedule a delivery date. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. When I asked him why didn't he tell me that during our last call, he said he thought I knew about it. That was their normal procedures. After several long conversations and arguments with general customer service and Rod, I had to hang up because I was about to explode. My shell arrived on the July 24, 2017. It took nearly a month. NO APPLOGIES !!

Long-distance move from Texas to Washington

Spend more for bettee.

My experience with Zippy has been less than great. When you first call they're very attentive and helpful and call back quickly until it's all said and done. They charge you half before they even show up which is odd and then the other half before you even get your container delivered. The experience in Texas was good. They showed up at 7am without calling ahead though so we were woken by them but the local movers they hired were extremely professional and quick. Once we headed to Seattle is when it started to get bad. On the drive up there we got an email saying it has already arrived to the terminal a couple days after it was picked, great!

We then cannot get anyone on the phone to schedule the delivery. We called over 5 times and left messages every time with no response. We would call and ask to talk to our moving coordinator who actually must have gotten fired or quit as her extension didn't even work a few days after we talked first. Everytime we would call they would have an auto message saying they have high call volume and some 3rd party would answer and "take a message" (yeah right) and offer no help at all. I finally sent like 4 emails in a row saying how horrible the service has been and FINALLY we get a response back, and it happens to be from the VP of operations, Great! Finally some hope.

The next day we get a call saying they're going to reach out to the local warehouse to setup delivery.. uh okay but we have requested a day since the beginning.. and about 3 days later we get a call back saying it'll be setup. Great, by this point they already charged us the full amount for the delivery so you are at the mercy of whenever they want to deliver it.

So delivery day comes and they shell arrives on time, but the movers are going to be an hour late. No biggie, the delivery shell driver was extremely nice and friendly. The movers finally show up and it's clearly not a professional company as they show up in a civic and are stoned out of their minds. They have one crappy little dolly and basically move at a snails pace to the point that I am doing more work than them! What the heck are we even paying them for? Oh and our TV broke as the shell clearly went through some kind of massive trauma during transport even though everything was pad wrapped and packed by a professional moving crew in Texas. All and all this move is cheap but not worth the hassle. Spend a bit more and not deal with these clowns.

Never Ever Use This Company.

This company is UNBELIEVABLE.

FIRST, 1ST July we call them, they are nice enough. Make the reservation, they ASSURE US someone will call, confirm and charge CC on the 3rd for a move date of the 5th. they tell us in the CT area, we must use their movers. fine. We sign a contract for the 5th July

3rd July - NO COMMUNICATIONS. They charge the CC half the amount. We assume they will be here on the 5th.

5th July - NOBODY SHOWS UP. NO COMMUNICATIONS AT ALL. NO EMAIL. NO PHONE CALL. We call them, 30 min waiting, we leave a message. Unbeknownst to us, they refund the money. NO RETURN PHONE CALLS or EMAILS.

3 DAYS LATER, we finally get them after NUMEROUS CALLS. they say "the truck already left CT, you will have to call & reschedule.

4 DAYS later - We finally get them again, after several calls, THIS TIME, they say "our facility is full, we can't accommodate you. We refunded the money". First time we know that.

LATER THAT DAY.. they now say "We DON'T SERVICE CT, sorry" and hang up. Send the receipt that shows the refund.

We have no movers 10 days from moving 2000 miles. What a LYING LITTLE COMPANY.

LESSON HERE: DO NOT USE UNLESS you are PREPARED to get SCREWED and LIED TO.

DO NOT use this company.

Their advertising is very misleading. They advertise free storage for up to 30 days, what they don't tell you is that they take 30 days to get your stuff moved. They say 10 -12 days, but it's really 30. Oh and if you want to contact some one at this company, good luck. They don't return emails or calls. I went all the way to the President for help and to provide feedback. Shockingly nothing changed. I would NOT recommend. I sent them 25 emails, not one response. Once my items were moved I was told to call their 800 number to get them delivered from storage to my home. Was transferred four times to be told they don't know where my "stuff" is and that they don't know what to do. VERY poor service, and absolutely zero execution what they say they will do. The trailer was delivered to my pick up home 6 hours after they said it would be there. They said it was because I did not answer my phone, this was after I called them that morning to confirm delivery of the trailer at 9am - it did not come till 3pm. By then I had to let the people go who I had paid to load the trailer, so lost money there. They said I had 3 days to load, when in reality I had one. The stress they added to my already hectic life of selling a home and moving was unacceptable. I will NEVER use them nor will I recommend them to anyone. Do yourself a favor and heed all these poor reviews, they are true.

Long-distance move from Seattle, WA to San Francisco, CA

Horrendous Customer Service.

If you're considering Zippyshell, turn the other way.

From the pushy sales person to the unresponsive customer care team, you're left with a sour taste in your mouth. Our shell was 7 hours late and if we did not reach out, we probably would not have received the shell at all. There is a HUGE disconnect between the customer care team and the actual warehouse.

When we received the email that our shell was delivered to our intended destination, we were ecstatic because we were expecting the worse. After scheduling the delivery to our new home, we were told that since we went with self-unloading that we only had 2 hours to unload before being charged an additional $100/hr. They suggested that if we hired their movers, we would get 3 hours to unload. Their logic did NOT make sense. Why would we need MORE time to unload if we had movers? It was apparent that their movers had a 3 hour minimum and that we would be required to pay for the full 3 hours when it would take no more than 30 minutes for them to unload. After rolling our eyes and biting our tongue, we went with the 2 hour self-unload in hopes of hiring our own helpers. On the day that our shell was scheduled to arrive, I called the customer care team in hopes of getting a better timeframe- no luck. BUT they did confirm that our shell would arrive in that specified timeframe. Once again, it got later and later and nothing. Instead I called the warehouse directly and was told that they had us scheduled for a later timeframe. Furious, I called the customer care team to ask if there was anything they could do to remedy the situation and as expected, nothing was offered.

Our shell arrived on the back of a trailer completely exposed (they DID NOT wrap the shell like the sales person described). Since the shell arrived later than expected, we had to unload with no help. The truck driver FORGOT the ramp making it difficult to quickly unload. Thankfully, he stepped in and helped, making him the most valuable person at Zippyshell.

If we were to do this again, I would NOT go with Zippyshell. I would NOT recommend them to anyone. Their customer service is atrocious and the disconnect between their customer care team and warehouse is too apparent to make the customer care team helpful whatsoever. If you do decide to go with Zippyshell, just ask for the warehouse number and contact them directly. Skip the care team and it might be a better overall experience.

Disgusting people.

The movers who loaded my things out laughed at my furniture, smoked on my property without my permission, stashed a half smoked cigarette on my porch to save for later and then complained about how many boxes I had. One of the same revolting people (named Steve, I think) was on the crew to move into my new place. This time I got to listen to profanity and tales of his love life. My things were damaged and the office people didn't care at all. I had no recourse. Never again. Just disgusting. Total white trash crew of losers.

Long-distance move from Atlanta, GA to Porter Corners, NY

Just another company that has chosen to fly by it's own unfair rules.

Once again a happy go lucky moving relocation and storage company with an overwhelmingly positive Web presence bares it's behind by being just another company that has chosen to fly by it's own unfair rules hiding behind a well hidden sentence in its contract with its victims that says that the cost of delivering the goods that you have entrusted to their delicate hands can change at any time for any reason.

When I first contacted Zippy Shell I received an initial quote that included delivery to my home. At the time I was told that the delivery charge would be considerably more expensive because of the distance my new residence was from the terminal in Syracuse, NY. Some time after after I packed up my shell and had it picked up, I thought that I would try to save a few bucks and I would rent a truck and pick my household items up my self, so I changed my delivery option to what is called a terminal pick up. Several weeks later I changed my mind back to having my shell delivered to my new home. I called and spoke to a reresentative and was told delivery would be an additional $850. This may seem like a lot but it is what I expected because it was what I was originally quoted back in the beginning.

However before I agreed to this charge I wanted to discuss us this charge with my wife as any good husband would. We decided that yes pay the $850, get the thing delivered and be done with it. After all it included our items being unloaded by the Zippy Shell people! So 48 hours later I called back and confirm with Zippy Shell that yes I want to change back to home delivery and yes we will pay the additional $850. I'm placed on a lengthy hold because they need to "make sure their numbers are correct", something I was familiar with because I just went through the same process 48 hours ago before discussing with the boss (my wife). They came cack on the line and asked if they could charge the credit card that we had on file and I agreed. We confirmed a date (Friday, 4/6/18) and a back up date (Tuesday, 4/10/18) incase or weather or some other emergency and I said good by.

That was Monday afternoon, 4/2/18 and aparantly they had extended to April Fools fetivities an additional 24 hours at Zippy Shell Corporate because I received a voice mail on Wednesday the 4th that in order to have my shell delivered and unloaded as we initially agreed and contracted to do on Friday that I needed to call them back and pay an additional $442. It seemed that because my delivery was greater than 100 miles away that the terminal was charging the fee and that they had no control over that situation. So after calling twice and getting the same quote, and after I accepted that quote and Zippy Shell charged my credit card placing a contract in force, Zippy Smell was playing by their own rules and was now holding my goods hostage for an additional $450. After speaking at length with Brittany, the customer service robot who said over and over how she could understand my anger and frustration with the situation that Crappy Smell had placed me in I was refereed to Lauren, an escalations manager who also told me that she understood my anger and frustration, but due to an incompatibility in their software with the Terminal company (not a Crappy Smell company) they were unaware or the excess charge- as if this was the first time they had a delivery more that 100 miles from the terminal. Lauren then referred me to the original contract that stated on page four that the cost of delivery can change at any time for any reason by any amount and that there was nothing she could do.

Thats right: First the Terminal people are not part of Zippy Shell and they make their own rules, rules that Zippy Shell is aparantly unaware of and that Zippy Shell tolerates or at the very least have not figured out how to communicate their policies to their customers, and that they have a glaring software incompatability that they refuse to fix or address. And second, tucked away in a 20,000 word contract is a clause that states your cost can change by any amount, for any reason, at any time!

So I will leave you with that. Beware the multicultural happy faces on their website. Beware the ease at which you think you can move with Crappy Smell. They are just another corporate entity designed by theives who will hold your personal belongings hostage and they will do it with a smile.

This is currently unresolved.

Long-distance move from Colorado Springs, CO to Melbourne, FL

So many issues.

Great service and friendly people on the front end. The customer service rep selling me their services was very friendly, responsive, helpful, and good at her job. It is clear they are paid on a commission based structure.

The transportation of our goods was relatively quick (from Colorado Springs to Melbourne Florida).

Where it got messed up and a headache was at the tail end. My destination address wasn’t plugged into their system properly and when I called to schedule the redelivery of my cube they said that since my address is 5 miles further than what they had in their system. This cost me an additional $157.

After we scheduled the redelivery for a Saturday. They emailed and said the warehouse could do it on Saturday but since it would put their guy in overtime there would be an additional $150 fee.

Finally, a small but annoying thing they’ll do, is 4/5 times I called their customer service team, they would immediately place me on hold after I’ve been waiting on hold for someone to pick up the phone. I’ll be in queue waiting for someone to answer and when it rings, the person on the other line would immediately say “zippy shell. I need to put you on a brief hold”. I’d understand if that happened once, but it happened 4 times to me. Seems like they don’t have food management or accountability. For all I know they’re chatting it up with their cube mate or checking their Facebook in between calls.

Again, small point, but speaks to their customer service. The contrast is so stark compared to their “sales” group.

I’ve used PODs twice. UPack once. Now Zippy Cube once. PODs is hands down the best, and you’ll pay for it. Zippy isn’t too much cheaper, so when I do this again I’ll likely pay the $200 extra and have a better more hassle free experience.

I thinks it’s ridiculous for a company to surprise you with over $200 in extra fees for something that isn’t my problem. If you’re open on Saturdays and by having someone there create an overtime issue, hire more people or do something differently but don’t pass that cost onto me after the fact.

Also a difference in 5 miles should not equal an additional 150+ dollars, they can get away with this because they know you want your stuff back, and 99% of the people are stressed out over a mo also a difference in 5 miles should not equal an additional 150+ dollars, they can get away with this because they know you want your stuff back, and 99% of the people are stressed out over having recently moved and my guess is most people just pay the money and get on with it.

Major let down.

We hired Zippy Shell to move our home into storage while our new house was being built. We paid in advance for the loading and putting our stuff into storage for 3 months and for delivery to new house and unloading. The initial move was flawless and stress free. Just called for the delivery and was told they no longer offer unloading help. It appears that a contract has no meaning with them. They are refunding $400.00 and the company I've had to hire to unload the containers and is costing us $560.00 plus the added stress of trying to cordinate the container arrivals and the new helpers.
Recommend you get all your answers up front and be warned they may change the terms with no recourse.

Don't trust them - Horrible.

I used zippy shell to move from MD to TX, initially the sales person promised me that one container is sufficient, with loading and unloading, furniture assembly for a price and when then they came to load my items got a shocker saying that container is not enough and need one more so have to double the initial cost and even worse was they dint even care to confirm that is delivered, I have to follow up multiple times and when it came they added another amount for stairs my origin has more stairs then destination but still I have to pay and then they dint even do assembly of the furniture and I called them 3 days multiple times and never got a response from them too much hassle and it is worst.

Move from Georgia to indiana through zippy shell.

I would not advise anyone to use this company. They were very late loading. I caught one of the movers in my jewelry chest and one of my gold necklaces is now gone. The movers did not pack the furniture first and our bed did not get packed because they ran out of room. They say a container holds at least two rooms and we weren’t taking even that. When we called zippy, we were told we would have to pay for another container to hold about 10 boxes, our bed, and 3 bookcases. They told me to email them about my jewelry chest and that was it. Since we couldn’t afford another container, we had to work something out with a separate company. It was the worst nightmare of my life and frankly I am glad it is over. From now on, I will do U-Haul and friends.

Very Unorganized Company.

I was hoping to be able to write a great review for this company. Their prices were thousands of dollars less than others and we were very hopeful that they would be sufficient for what we needed for our cross country move. At the beginning they were helpful, communicated well and even delivered the empty containers on time for us to load. Thankfully we were cautioned by someone a week before the containers were delivered to re-evaluate how much storage we would actually need. Their online calculator is not accurate at all and even with us overestimating with two containers, we could of used three. So be aware that you may be stuck with having to order another container last minute at three times the price of the original one. Thankfully we were able to rent a Penske Truck and load it with the overflow and extra living items to hold us over for just "in case". Now we fast forward to 3 months later, our two containers have been in storage for those three months. Once we had settled on a closing date we notified Zippy by 2 phone calls at 30 minutes apart at the beginning of November hoping this would give them plenty of time to ship our containers from Utah to Maine by the middle of December. Two weeks later we called to find out if they were in transit only to find out they had no record of the phone calls or the request to have them shipped. So another request was made with a promise of a followup email (which was never received with each request). Two weeks later (yesterday) another phone call to Zippy to find out if they are on their way and this time we are notified that they received our request but that they have not initiated a delivery. They don't connect you to a manager, instead they pass along the information and tell you that a manager will be in touch by the following day. We did hear back today by email from an Escalation Manager Lead who informed us that they have not engaged a delivery and that they would be working on it. They couldn’t tell us why it hasn't been shipped.
It's so crazy to me that in one month from the initial request for delivery of the containers that nothing has happened. Nothing. With the lack of information of when our containers will be shipped or arrive and how long its taken them this far to communicate, we could possibly be in our new home for 1 month before our containers arrive.
This company is much cheaper than others and we knew in advance that this could cause some problems. For those interested in using them be aware that cheaper means ill-managed, major communication problems (unable to speak to someone who can give you answers), poor training of employees (can't facilitate a request of having your containers shipped, which is sort of important!), which means their Escalation Management Team is overwhelmed with problems that their staff have created. Some people have given great reviews, which on hindsight causes me to wonder if they are real reviews, but unfortunately many like us have had a bad experience and gotten caught in their web of mismanagement. We are hoping that their intent is not to hold our belongings hostage so that they can keep charging us storage fees.

Long-distance move from Santa Monica, CA to Charleston, SC

Do Not Use Under Any Circumnstances!!

Used this 'service' to move from Los Angeles to Charleston, SC. First, their largest container cannot even hold the contents of a 1 bedroom 600 sq ft apartment, so I had to get a second container which doubled the price of the move. I am paying for the storage of 2 containers and cannot get them to commit to a delivery date. Customer Care does not respond. The 'Supervisor' recites the mantra that I will receive an email confirming the date. The fact that I have sent 3 emails and there has been no response to ANY of them, doesn't lead me to believe I will ever hear from them. On top of this, they now say that per their 'policy' which is not stated ANYWHERE in the documents, they do not pro-rate storage so I have paid for a full month of storage when I only needed 9 days. Unless of course, they continue to hold my goods hostage. I asked if I could have the address of the location of my goods, and of course, the answer is NO. Makes me wonder if they have sold off my things.. What kind of recourse is there?

Local move from Potomac, MD to Rockville, MD

Won't give me my stuff.

They won't deliver my Zippyshells!! I've been calling for two weeks trying to get them to deliver my two Zippyshells to my new home but they won't call me back and there seems to be ONLY ONE PERSON to deal with. This is insane. Customer service can't help me. All they can do is transfer me to the same guy over and over. His voice mail is almost always full and, when I can leave a message, he doesn't call me back. And they even had the nerve to charge me for next month's storage fees already!

Long-distance move from Chandler, AZ to Huntersville, NC

Don't waste your money for long distance move.

Moved from AZ to NC their largest container CAN NOT hold enough space for a 2 bedroom apartment, informed them on the 1st and 2nd phone calls prior to pick up my items needed to go to my house then to the storage unit around the corner. it wasn't until the when they were about to drop off my items I was informed of an extra $200 charge to the storage unit. I could have saved more money with PODS then getting a rental truck.
Never again! I'm just glad its over and pissed I use my money for their services.. do not us them for long distance moving.

Long-distance move from Philadelphia, PA to Houston, TX

Moving and storage.

I moved from Pa to Texas. Contacted zippy shell and they assured me that once I had a shell delivered I would have two or three days to load up. That was a load of crap. They give you one day and pick up early the next morning.
So I arrive in Texas and stored in one of the warehouses for 5 months and asked to have it delivered. Delivery was supposed to be included in price I had paid. Over 2700 and 160 a month for storage. Well now they want to charge me an additional 390.00 for delivery and they would wait at house for us to unload. They gave me 3 hours to unload??!! In their website it claims that u can have a few days to load up and unload. This is misleading as the reality is u only have a couple hours.
Customer service is the worst. I have five different numbers to contact and not one of them are helpful. They are rude and give false information. Cannot troubleshoot or fix any problems that arise. There were many.
Beware. They wanted a zip code to area was moving to. I did not have an address yet and gave them an address in Houston where my daughter lived because I didn’t have a definite place yet to live. Now I finally buy a house that is 30 miles from the zip code I gave they are charging me extra for delivery. It was supposed to be included. I’ve called numerous times to get this settled to no avail. They have your belongings, either pay or you don’t get your stuff.
These people are rip offs. They don’t follow through in anything they first promised me.
Beware of this company. If you r moving cross country. Do not use. Local moving may be ok.
Call another company. It’s not worth the aggravation.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to Washington

Holding my Belongings Hostage.

Called Zippy Shell on January 3, 2019 to have my belongings, which were being stored in their Raleigh, NC warehouse, moved across country to my new home in Spokane Valley, WA. When no one called or emailed to let me know that my shell had been shipped, I called the Customer Service line on January 17th to confirm shipment. The Customer Service rep I spoke with told me that my belongings would be arriving at their Kent, WA warehouse in the "next couple days or so." When I hadn't heard anything regarding delivery by January 24th, I called Customer Service again. The rep I spoke to that time told me that he didn't have any notes about my shipment or delivery, but that he would put a "note in my account" asking the Logistics team for confirmation. I called every business day for a week asking, "Where are my belongings and when can I expect delivery? None of the Customer Service reps I spoke to had any answers for me and there requests for more information were being ignored. I asked repeatedly to have this situation escalated only to be told that the CR reps were "not allowed to escalate an customer complaint to their superiors until the company was in breach of contract." So, after doing the math, the CR rep I spoke to determined that it had indeed been longer than the 10-14 business days that they promise to deliver within, so he could escalate the issue. On February 1st, I get an email from an "Escalation Lead" stating that my "freight" had shipped and would arrive at the destination warehouse by Feb. 6th. I was flabbergasted. They had ignored my shipment request on January 3rd, and despite my calls requesting information, were not spurred to action until they realized they were in breach of contract. The "Escalation Lead" did not apologize for my inconvenience nor did she accept any responsibility for the tardiness of my shipment. I also learned that the "destination warehouse" was 5 hours away from my home. That said, once the container reached that warehouse, Zippy Shell charged my credit card for the 2nd half of the move. (They say they will do this in their contract, but the contract never states WHERE the "destination" warehouse is located. It only lists my address 5 hours away. Since Feb. 6th, the company has cancelled 2 delivery appointments and have given no indication of when they will be delivering my shipment. They keep blaming the weather, but this is winter in Washington, if they are only able to move in warm, sunny weather they should have never accepted my contract. In the meantime, they have offered me $50 per day in compensation for "transit delays," but they stopped counting the days when my shipment arrived at the destination warehouse. So, even though I've gone without my belongings for over a week, none of those days count toward my compensation. Since they have already been paid, they are not motivated to make delivery. So, my belongings sit in a warehouse while I wait to hear when they will decide to deliver them. The Customer Service reps are not empowered to solve problems and are given zero information. The Escalation Lead is rude and condescending and actually told me there was "no one else I could speak to about this matter." Talk about breaking the cardinal rule of customer service! I urge you to choose another moving company. I've had great experiences with PODS and Door to Door. Good luck!

Long-distance move from Murfreesboro, NC to Kansas City, MO

Never again.

I needed a storage container company that came to the middle of nowhere. I only had 2 choices, and had already been burned by my other choice. Do not trust these idiots with your belongings. Almost every piece of furniture I own it either broken or seriously damaged. I want to file a claim but they refuse to send me the forms, and now they have blocked my phone number. Beware that they force a hefty "deductible" on you so that claims are pointless anyway.

The 3 hour load/unload window should have been enough for me to walk away, but I was desperate and needed the storage aspect at my destination. I was assured that the "help" they provided (@$1000 PER 3 hour block PER container - I needed 3 blocks for 2 containers) would be professional. One out of the 3 men had a clue how to pack. The others refused to properly use the furniture blankets that I had provided. Consequently all exposed surfaces are deeply scratched. Plus, he was using tape to hold the moving blankets in place. Thankfully I have been able to remove the tape without incurring any additional damage - so far.. My dining room table was also somehow deeply gauged through the moving blanket.

So far of all the boxes I personally packed have arrived with intact contents. I am still unpacking, and have yet to get to the "problem" ones (see below).

Storage and scheduling delivery went smoothly, no complaints there. They did mess up the timing of the billing, so that the larger half of my bill (because of the extra packing block) couldn't take advantage of a credit card promotion that I had.

The dropoff was contracted out to a real moving company. The men looked at me like I was crazy when I met them with fear in my eyes. I was also surprised that the container was only shrink-wrapped around the edges and NOT on the top and bottom. I was under the impression that it was to be fully wrapped to protect the contents from dirt and debris. It is not. So, my belongings are not only damaged, but filthy - even worse dirt-wise than any other moving company I have ever used. Moreover, upon opening the first container everyone was shocked to see what looked like a bomb had gone off inside. Furniture and boxes were shattered with their contents strewn randomly. I thankfully had enough trash bags on hand to have my entire cabinet of yarn stash picked up off the floor and repacked. I just uncovered the physical cabinet to see if I could repair it, and the handles are cracked in the middle! The movers slung all my IRREPLACEABLE work papers back into their crushed boxes. I am hoping I haven't lost too much through the OPEN bottom of the cage.. Also in the "explosion" was my guest sheets dresser - which is mangled so completely I haven't even been able to unwrap it yet. My master bedroom dressers we're jostled so much that the backer nails were pulled out and multiple drawers were bounced off their tracks (most likely causing the crack in one side panel). I still haven't worked up the courage to turn on the electronics that were "explosion-adjacent". I suspect they dropped that container.

No explosion in the second container, but it wasn't full either. I had to leave prior to the third loading session. After the movers left my neighbors sent me pictures of what was left behind. Since I couldn't replace all my cat furniture for my disabled cat or specially futon, I paid someone an additional $1000 to bring my "leftovers." Why?

Additionally, when you call the 1-800 customer service number, neither you nor the representative on the other end has the ability to contact the local movers directly. If this communication was possible, many problems would be solved. No one benefits from this policy!

Also, you have NO option to provide negative feedback to Zippy Shell directly.

Finally, I also discovered that Zippy Shell is merging with 1-800-packrat. Figures, as that was the company who I was avoiding over my bad experience moving out to the middle of nowhere..
