Long-distance move from Dallas, TX to Chapel Hill, NC

Misleading - Costing Me Hundreds Extra.

I'm just going to post my email to ZippyShell and their response:

My Email:

Again I want to express and put on record my frustration with ZippyShell. After my front end experience I had hoped the unloading process would be easier however this was not the case. Two weeks before my Shell was to be delivered I called ZippyShell to start the delivery process. I asked for unloading to be added to my bill no questions asked I was quoted an unloading cost of $350. When I received an email about my Shell arriving at the final destination I called ZippyShell to schedule delivery. I was given a priority date of July 6th and an alternative date of July 10th. I was told I would be notified if my first date was not honored. Only July 5th I was driving from Michigan to Chapel Hill, NC in preparation for a July 6th delivery date. I called late morning of July 5th to confirm the delivery- only to learn my stuff would not be delivered until July 10th- resulting in unnecessarily losing time with family over the July 4th holidays. On July 10th when my Shell arrived I was immediately given an invoice from Tom (unloading captain) for an additional $300 charge because the 28 stairs, which were not inquired about, were not included in my unloading quote. He relayed to me that ZippyShell charges by the stair- meaning each stair cost me an additional $10.71. Feeling like I had no other option to get to sleep in my own bed that night I signed the invoice to accept the charge. Throughout the unloading process one of the movers complained to me directly about the two flights of stairs to get to the third floor “This is why you will never find a mover living on the 3rd floor” and about the shrink wrapping of the furniture which I explained to him was done by ZippyShell movers on the front end of this process. I understand it was a hot day- I provided water and a significant tip to each mover.

Overall I was happy to use ZippyShell- it was an economical moving choice- each phone call was pleasant- my movers in Dallas were strong and efficient- and Tom and Jaylen in Chapel Hill were a pleasure to work with. However, I do feel like I was mislead or there were significant lapses in communication on multiple occasions resulting in unexpected costs to me. I would like this to be remedied with a refund of my additional $300 unloading costs.

Their Response:

Thank you for writing in about your compliment and concerns regarding your move with Zippy Shell. We very much appreciate the feedback and we apologize to hear that the unloader complained regarding the steps as that is not the professional behavior we strive for. I do apologize that a representative did not inquire as to whether there were steps or elevators that the movers would need to use in order to unload your shell.

Unfortunately, we are unable to void that fee as it is listed in the contract that was signed.

Thank you very much for your time in this matter and we hope you are enjoying your new home.

Kind rgards.

Stay Far away from Zippy Shell.

Stay far away for this company - if you value your items and need a smooth move - do not go with Zippy shell. They are unreliable, will run your credit card without your authorization for charges, pack the cages so badly that everything was damaged, do not read labels on your boxes - so no need to label things fragile as they won't take any notice, and they do not pick up or deliver when you want to schedule them. Pretty much every thing about this company is terrible.

Long-distance move from Ventura, CA to Lebanon, NH

Poor service, very poor customer service.

Zippy Movers is a living nightmare. They do not live up to their contract and hire convicted felons to pack the shell which they had no experience doing. I had to leave behind furniture due to their incompetence. Now I am dealing with non-delivery of my goods. I was promised my goods will arrive in NH by the 15th of July nearly a month after being picked up in California. To date, they cannot give me a status on my goods. I am to begin a new job soon and am a single mother of a 6 year old. What are we to do, sleep on the floor? Their Customer Service is totally useless. I have been calling and all they tell me is that they must discontinue the call. Someone PLEASE help me. I am so stressed out over this matter.

Worst customer experience ever.

Zippy Shell Moving and Storage
This has been the WORST customer experience of my life. I was (wrongly) assured and reassured of how simple and convenient this process would be for me..

2 months of arguing about being double charged, with employees refusing to let me speak to a manager. Being told that they didn't know where my property was. Being told that the time I requested was unavailable because "it's a weekend and peak moving season" (umm.. You are a moving company and don't make the necessary adjustments in staff for peak moving season??). Having to explain 5 times that I need to have the trailer delivered as late in the day as possible, only to be told the warehouse isn't open after 5pm, and that my things would be delivered between 9am-1pm on a Monday. FINALLY being told they could "escalate" my case to manager, but not for 2 business days. NEVER being contacted by any manager. I asked how I was supposed to even hire someone to come help if they don't know exactly when my possessions are arriving. They offered to have me hire their workers come unload for $300 extra. Found people who were able to help unload at 10am- all strangers to us from our new church- (since you told us repeatedly that the truck would be here as close to 10am as possible)- onle to have 10am come and go. Being called at 1:30 by the driver to tell us they are 45min out. Hmm, warehouse must be open after 5 or how does the driver return? Guess who's still not here (3:00pm)?

Zippy Shell Moving & Storage.

I strongly encourage you NOT to choose Zippy Shell for your move. By far the WORST customer service I have ever dealt with - I still have not spoken to a manager or supervisor after multiple attempts since my belongings were picked up - and it took from 6/15 to 7/18 to have my belongings delivered and absolutely NO refund or discount was offered.

My belongings were picked up on June 15th to be shipped across country from PA to CA. I scheduled a cross country move with zippy shell on 4/21/18 to be picked up on 6/15 for a 7/1 delivery at the latest. Called customer service rep on 6/8 to confirm and schedule an immediate shipment, no storage needed and was told that wouldn't be a problem and it was confirmed. I then also confirmed with the movers when they packed up the truck, - they said it would be 3 days max to ship, as it was a Friday and they had to load 2 other storage cages into the freight before it could depart. Thinking everything was on schedule, 10 days later I called on 6/25 to confirm the location of the freight and provide the delivery address in CA. Much to my shock, I was informed it hadn't even shipped from PA yet. They apologized for error and the customer service rep assured me they would handle it - she said she spoke with her supervisor who would "expedite the shipment" to arrive by the end of the week 6/29 and I should call back in the morning to get accurate date when freight would arrive. I called back the next day and spoke with another customer rep who said unfortunately it wouldn't be able to make it until Monday 7/3. I didn't have any other choice so I said that was okay. I was told I'd get an email the next day confirming. The next day I got an email that said it was "expedited" for delivery between 7/6-7/9. Again different dates and info than the last two customer service reps said. Although extremely frustrated, I again was calm and waited until 7/9. Still no email or call to let me know my unit had arrived. I called in the afternoon on 7/9 and was told "they don't have GPS to know where the truck is, but she spoke with freight and it would be there that night. I'd get a confirmation/delivery email late that night or early in the morning and I'd then be able to schedule my delivery to my house from the storage facility."
By 5pm on 7/10, no email. I once again called the only number the company provides and was told by customer service rep Sabel that "oh I'm sorry the rep you spoke with yesterday provided you inaccurate info. It's not there yet and would arrive sometime this week". I asked to speak with a manager or supervisor and was told I couldn't, that someone would call me in 2 business days and in the meantime again was told they'd expedite my shipment." I said I was already told that my shipment was expedited for 7/6 - that response made no sense whatsoever. I asked again to speak with a supervisor and she informed me "she's on the other line so she can't talk right now." I asked to be put through and would wait on hold until I could speak to someone. She said "ma'am I can't do that and I have other calls to take so I need to get off the line with you now."
Again, no date or accurate information given and no one has contacted me from the company to rectify the situation. I filed a complaint with BBB and the company simply stated they didn't have a reason for the late delivery and acknowledged nothing else about the horrible customer service and shortcomings of the complaint.
I did not ask for a refund or a discount for any of this up to this point, and no discount was offered for the error with shipment. I simply wanted to know where my belongings were and I get a straight answer from management. It was over a month since I shipped with this company and my belongings were finally delivered on 6/18. Mind you also, the warehouse was over an hour from my place and only did deliveries between 8-12pm. By this point I had started my new job and had no extra time off, but the company would not make any exceptions (nor was I ever told this when I called to get information and a quote back in April).

Again - I thought choosing this company would be okay and I read the bad reviews and prepared accordingly, but I was very wrong. Please do not use this company if you value your time, money and sanity.

Zippy Shell - West Houston
We moved to Houston and while my 2 bedroom apartment stuff arrived we decided to go with Zippy Shell of West Houston/Harry Briers looking at their pricing and convenience.
I was very impressed with the professional service I got. All my stuff was in good condition and I was very happy with the timely response.
I would highly recommend this based on my experience.

Military move.

We did a military "do it yourself move" from MD to KS with zippy shell Maryland location. The salesperson was good at selling their service. I was excited at first. They came on time to drop off my container. Sadly it took them 25 days to have my stuff at my destination. My family (*5 month old baby) and I were sleeping on the floor inside empty house for 25 days. They stored my stuff without my permission at the origin. Which I didn't request. When I try to call them, they will say they will call back but never will. My experience has been beyond frustrating. Im very disappointed. My advice to you is..I don't think they are reliable for long distance move! I regret for not using other moving companies.

Long-distance move from Illinois to North Carolina

Move from Chicago to Chapel Hill.

My wife and I relocated from Chicago to Chapel Hill, NC because she accepted a new job. The job provided us with temporary housing while we sold our condo in Chicago and tried to find a home in Chapel Hill. We decided we would use Zippy Shell as they would not only move, but could store our belongings while we transitioned from our condo to our new home. They were an absolute disaster!
While getting a quote from Zippy, my wife worked with a moving specialist who went through a checklist of our items and the size of our condo. He told us we would need one 15' shell. She asked for two to be safe. Twice. Each time she was told only one was needed. A moving company would be subcontracted to load our belongings into the shell. We set the date for the loading.
The day of the loading the shell arrived 30 minutes early. We live in the city and were lucky enough to have space on the street in front of our condo to park the truck and shell. The driver would wait with the shell in case it needed to be moved. The movers called to say they would be there early, which was 45 minutes AFTER our scheduled start time. Part of the agreement with Zippy Shell is you have a 3hr window to pack the shell. The movers said their paperwork from Zippy said a 10am start time. I spoke with the driver who indicated his paperwork said 9am. We called Zippy because we were worried we would go past our window with the movers arriving late. They said the movers were running late and they would try to help us if we ran over our window. The movers arrived with paperwork from Zippy that showed 10am. My wife called Zippy while I talked to the driver. Zippy was adamant the movers were late. The driver showed me a text message from his boss saying he forgot to tell him the move got pushed back an hour. Zippy lied to us and blamed the movers. Great start. The movers walked through our unit and indicated one shell will not be enough for our items. We called Zippy, and here's where things go off the rails. They said they couldn't get us a shell that day. They wouldn't be able to get us a shell until the following Monday (the move was on a Friday). We had made travel arrangements to leave Chicago later that day. I talked to driver and explained the issue. His response was that Zippy could get another shell to us but won't because they don't want to pay overtime to a driver to bring one. We pleaded with the customer service rep. The response was this was our fault, that we filled out the checklist incorrectly. The same checklist that their moving specialist filled out over the phone. No one came to our home to see what we had. We asked for two shells and were told twice we only needed one. The rep did offer one solution..we rent a Uhaul, pack the remainder of our belongings, drive them to their warehouse and then pack them ourselves into a shell there. So we would pay them while we moved our own stuff. Got it. At no point did they offer any sympathy or a willingness to help us. We were told it was our fault and they couldn't do anything. At their mercy, we had to schedule a second move. They were a room and a half short by the way, not just slightly off in their estimate. We would have to pay for this second move. And I would have to take time out of work and purchase a plane ticket to fly back to Chicago to be there. We set the move up for the following Saturday morning. The driver arrived with the pod. The street was now full so I told him we would just have to load in the alleyway. He said the shell was set up as a drop and not for him to stay with it. You can't drop a shell in the city. It's a fire hazard in the alleyway. The last move was not set as a drop. Why would they set the second one as a drop? He said he would call his boss and see what they wanted to do but that they might have to cancel the move because he had another drop to make in the morning. I flew back to Chicago to complete this move and I was being told it might need to be cancelled. I couldn't believe it. After a few unsuccessful calls he decided on his own he would take the shell to his next stop. He would then grab another and drive back with it and stay with it. This was a life saver. However, I now had movers at my condo waiting for two hours for a shell to arrive. Loading of the second shell was completed and I was able to make my flight back to NC.
Once we closed on our new home we set the delivery of our two pods. They showed up late of course. And with only one pod! We asked about the second pod. The driver wasn't aware of a second pod. We reached out to Zippy but our moving coordinator was not in the office yet. We spoke to someone else who said they would look into it. We heard back from our move coordinator 2 hours after the unloading started. The subcontracted movers were done with the first pod. We were told the second pod was running a little bit behind but would be there in 30 minutes. An hour later, still no pod. We were told it was common that they staggered pods for unloading and it would be there within the hour. I found this interesting that they would hire a moving company to sit at my house waiting for the pod. Clearly another lie. Another hour, no pod. Finally, 6 hours after the first pod arrived our second one made it to our door.
To be fair, both moving companies that were subcontracted did a good job. We had minimal damage and both were courteous and diligent.
Overall, this was the worst moving experience I have ever had. They were unorganized, they lied, they blamed us for their mistakes, and in the end we ended up paying almost double their original quote, not to mention having to take time out of work and pay for flights. Do not use this company. It will be a decision you will regret.

Unmatched Moving and Storage Service.

As a millennial who is always on the go, I truly appreciate the uniqueness that Zippy Shell brings when it comes to making a move.

I grew up with a father in the military and spent my entire life moving every couple of years. However, I have never had a better moving experience than with Zippy Shell! Everything from the price to the customer service is outstanding and incomparable!

The storage options really helped free up some space at my new apartment and give me some time to sort things out and decide what I wanted them to haul back to the warehouse for me.

Moving can be stressful. It's easy for people to get frustrated with little things and small mistakes companies like this can make. But I can assure you that Zippy Shell is truly unmatched when looking at other storage and moving options. I can't say enough good things about them!

Best Relocation Experience.

Where do I begin? I have relocated and lived in 8 different states so that means I have experiene with van lines, direct, and contract broker movers (don't use brokers) No move has compared to Zippy Shell and I am now a loyal customer. The owner, John, made the whole process so easy! We had an amazing team of gentleman that treated our items with genuine care. They were careful with all the furniture and they listened to all our concerns.. but after a few minutes of watching them work, our concerns melted away because it was evident these guys knew what they were doing. We had a long distance move that required a next day meet for unloading. Timothy and Montreal called us 10 minutes before our meet time to confirm we were still on schedule. (They did that for loading too)
Thank you Zippy Shell for making this move so stress free! Thank you Timothy and Montreal for being rock stars and going the extra mile with a smile!!

Failure at every step.

Zippy Shell's only value proposition to customers is that they coordinate the moving and storage of your goods with local franchisees and/or 3rd parties in the origin and destination markets, but they failed me at every point in the process. Before pickup, I called my moving coordinator (they moved from a dedicated coordinator to a pool of coordinators during our move) to let her know that we would likely need some items moved through our 2nd floor window because of narrow stairs. They were providing free loading help since they didn't have enough shells to drop one off with us and I wanted to make sure the movers could handle this. The rep assured me this would be fine but on moving day the movers were shocked and refused to help us. I had to scramble to find and pay handymen to move our things and was told by ZS I'd be reimbursed for this since their rep noted my call but never acted on it. At our destination, the day before our move the local warehouse called to confirm delivery but told me he had no idea what time they'd arrive. I had called the moving coordinators a few days prior and they'd said the shell would be delivered from 8-12 and I'd hired movers to help unload starting at noon. When I told the guy on the phone his response was that "they're in Florida and we're in California" as if that makes it ok. I ended up having to reschedule the movers; thank goodness they were actual professionals and very accommodating. Finally, once the shell was dropped off, it was locked with a lock that could only be opened with bolt cutters and yet the guy who dropped it off had no bolt cutters. I was once again promised by ZS that I'd be reimbursed for buying my own bolt cutters.

So far, I've not received a dime of reimbursement and I've been promised that a manager would contact me for almost 2 weeks now with no attempt to reach me despite multiple follow-up emails and phone calls on my part. No one in this company communicates with anyone else even though that's their entire role. If I wanted to contract with a mover, loading help, a storage company, etc. I could have done that. So what the heck did I pay for?

This company talks a big talk but they fail to deliver. Don't trust them with your money. It's a ripoff.

Not So Zippy Shell.

Not So Zippy Shell is great about calling to get your business. Once you sign up, that's when the communication ends. We moved from Utah to Florida. They contracted out the delivery service to a mover in Miami. Not So Zippy Shell could not confirm if and when our belongings would arrive. Our stuff arrived and they could not get their act together to schedule a delivery time. Forget about talking to a supervisor, they have no concept about customer service. Stay on top of them if you do decide to contract with them. Their concept of delivery is wait until you are furious and then they'll make your delivery a priority. At that, the delivery crew showed up almost 4 hours later then the latest time they said they'd arrive. It was nice that the delivery movers helped unload. That said, there largest container is too small. Go with PODS! It's the same price per sq ft for the larger container albeit there's no unloading assistant. While I can't speak to PODS customer service, it wouldn't take much to exceed Not So Zippy Shell.

Long-distance move from Charlotte, NC to Los Angeles, CA

Customer No-Service from Zippy Shell.

I hired Zippy Shell for a cross country move from North Carolina to California. The two 15' containers were dropped off and picked up without any issues and I began my drive to Los Angeles. I was given a transit time of 7-10 business days after the pickup on 7/29. I called on 8/4 to make sure they had the delivery address correct and ensure there were no problems. I was told by the customer service rep that my units would be delivered on 8/8. When I didn't hear from them or receive delivery by noon that day I called and was told delivery would be on 8/10 between 8-10am. Again..nothing. I called customer service and was told they weren't even in Los Angeles yet but were "in transit". As of 8/11 no one at Zippy Shell can tell me where my things are or when they'll arrive. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told I would be called back. I reached out to the person who booked my move and he sympathized with me then transferred me to his supervisor..it went straight to voicemail. I don't know when, or if, I'll receive delivery but I sincerely regret hiring this company to move me. U-Pack is just a little more but guarantees the delivery date or refunds the cost of transit.

Don't use zippyshell.

We had a horrible experience with zippyshell. They underestimated the amount of storage we would need even after us giving them all that we needed moved. We had to pay for a larger container on the day of the move because the movers we hired through zippy said all our things will not fil in the 15' and 10' containers. Even after the larger container was brought the movers were still not able to fit all of our things and left a lot behind. I had a week to sell my things because they couldn't fill it in the two containers that they said would be enough. On top of that they charged me for heavy lifting and an extra staircase climb! I lost so much money in having to sell my stuff that didn't fit and then having to repurchase in CA. on top of all that I bought a one way ticket so we could fit the essential things we needed in our van so my husband and sons could drive it to CA. I flew with my toddler daughter and arrived here the morning of the delivery. I called them and was told the containers were not there yet. My family drove three days and arrived by Sunday and had to sleep on floors. We are still waiting and sleeping on floors, spent over $700 on things we need that we already posses but don't have yet. Having to eat out because I have nothing to cook in. Kids start school tomorrow and don't have most of their belongings. Our containers were packed and taken on July 25th, its Aug 15th and we still don't have our things! Of course the manager still hasn't called us back. We asked to be compensated by them providing the unloaders but of course the customer service can't authorize that without the manager who never calls. We have been on the phone with them daily with no results. Our things have finally arrived at the warehouse but where have they been all this time and what condition am I going to get my things in? The loaders that we hired through zippy didn't even wrap my furniture in the clear film I bought for them even after me reminding them to do so, we are all so frustrated. Save yourself the headache. The long move was hard enough but these guys have made it harder for us!

Awful in every way.

Absolutely horrific company from top to bottom. Charged us $4000 to move from Minnesota to New Jersey. They said our stuff would be arriving in NYC within 10 business days. On the 9th day, it hadn't even left Minnesota. But they wouldn't let me speak to a manager because it was still in their contracted time frame. Apparently they have particle accelerators at Zippy Shell!

Needless to say, my items didn't arrive in New Jersey for another 6 days, at which point they had had my stuff for 18 calendar days. Throughout this experience, I had been trying to get a hold of their customer service manager, Rod. Rod is a hard man to get a hold of. I made the grievous mistake of missing his first call and calling him back minutes later, only to be told that I had now dropped to the bottom of his call list and had to wait 48 hours for another call. Well, 3 days later he finally called. And on that lovely call, he lied and told me that he had tried to call me multiple times, so this whole situation was essentially my fault for not answering. He also told me that his company had done well because my stuff was "only 3 business days late in reaching the warehouse". Meanwhile, I still don't have my stuff delivered, and we're on day 19, and it still won't be here for 2 more days. Don't ever, ever, ever use Zippy Shell.

It's clearly the worst.

It's clearly the worst, and so are it's employees.
I have been in contact with Roderick Bethune, the customer service manager for over three weeks demanding a refund.
He continues to say how valuable my time is and how much he appreciates my business yet will do nothing to show it. He said in one of many emails..
"I would be more than happy to discuss any other ideas in regards to compensation with you to come to a resolution. We hope you understand how valued you are and how much we appreciate your business. Please let me know how you would like to proceed."
I let him know how I would like to proceed. I want my money back.

Long-distance move from Chicago, IL to Marina Del Rey, CA

Glad we ignored negative reviews and moved with Zippy Shell.

After reading many of the negative reviews of Zippy Shell, we felt that it was mainly people with bad experiences that leave reviews and most people who were pleased did not bother to leave a review. My son was moving from a downtown Chicago apartment to Marina Del Rey, CA.

I called nearly every pod type moving company to get their rates. Pack-Rat and PODS were the most expensive coming in at around $3k. Also, a few of the companies could not come into the downtown area of Chicago due to some zoning/parking regulations. Zippy’s quote for a 10’ was a bit over $2100. Since we were only in the early stages of looking, our quote expired after a few days. About a week later, Michael G., my Zippy Moving Consultant, emailed me saying that due to reduced moving costs, my original quote dropped from ~$2115 to $1820. By now, I was ready to book. We decided that my son needed the larger, 15’ shell and booked that for $2088.

I called the local Chicago Zippy warehouse and explained that I was hiring movers and need to know exactly when the shell would arrive, as a 3 hour window would not work as I was paying the movers by the hour. He told me that if I took the first appointment of the day, he could get it to me at 8 AM, (+/- 30 minutes). We agreed on a day. At about 7:45, on the day of the move, the driver called saying he was stuck in heavy Chicago traffic and he’d be there about 8:30. I told him that was fine as the movers had not yet arrived.

The movers loaded my son’s stuff into the shell in about 90 minutes. The driver remained at the apartment with the shell in the truck. The move went very smoothly. The top of the caged shell was already covered in plastic wrap and they explained that the shell, when loaded, would be completely wrapped in plastic. We were contacted about 10 days later that the shell had arrived in L.A. We scheduled an 8 AM delivery in L.A. for about a week later.

L.A. traffic is brutal and on the day of the delivery, both my son’s movers and the shell arrived about 8:45, which worked out great.

Bottom line… Zippy Shell’s price, customer service and overall performance were excellent. I would definitely recommend them.

Nightmare Move -Should be Zero Stars.

Do NOT use Zippy Shell until you read the fine print in the contract that says they have up to 12 days AFTER your scheduled delivery date to get your belongings!! They erroneously sent my things from Los Angeles to Seattle, instead of my new home in Omaha!! Horrible communication from the "Escalation Manager" Rod..I'm sure he never wants to call people back because it's either no news or bad news! After I finally had my things delivered 10 days late, I expected some type of restitution. Nope, there was nothing..just "you're lucky you have your things now, aren't you? Who treats their customers this way? How can they continue to be in business? They need to be investigated!!

Long-distance move from San Antonio, TX to Denver, CO

Terrible Communicarion, Late Delivery.

The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is because the moving coordinators at the LOCAL level have been friendly enough.

HOWEVER, DO NOT believe the 7-10 business day estimate. We're on 15 business days (21 calendar days) and our shell hasn't even left the destination warehouse. We moved from San Antonio, TX to Denver, CO and we're currently sleeping on an air mattress because our zippy shell has not yet arrived. Communication has been absolutely terrible. First we got an email saying our shell would be late, but no estimate was provided about when it would arrive. Then we got a phone call saying that our shell would arrive on the scheduled date. Great! That was pleasant news. Come to find out that person was wrong. It hadn't even left the San Antonio warehouse (and still hasn't).

Eventually I asked to speak to a supervisor. This was 5 days ago. That day he said he would call me by the end of the day AND email me with updates, neither of which has happened. Also, when I told him that our shell was late, he said he wasn't really concerned about it until it's about 15 business days late. Is he for real? I called back every day this week asking to speak to a supervisor, but no manager ever got back to me. The customer care team on the phone is nice enough, but being nice doesn't get our shell delivered on time.

At this point we have no idea when we're going to get our stuff. We keep being told we're on a "hot list" or "priority list" but no one can give us an estimate about when it will be picked up or when it will get to Denver.

They say their service is "fast" and "hassle-free". Don't believe them. Zippy Shell has been the most stressful part of our long distance move. Do not go with Zippy Shell.

Long-distance move from Florida to Maryland

Worse experience of our lives.

NEVER, I MEAN NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. This company does nothing but lie to you and give you the run around. We were told our shell would be delivered on a certain date (twice), we waited and no shell. We called Zippy only to find out after several phone calls that shell was still in transit and no one know where it is, so here we are with hardly any of our belongings. We called several times asking to speak to a supervisor and were told one would call us back and it never happened. Our experience with ZIPPY has been horrible. One headache after another and it still going on. Don't ever use this company, you will regret it.

Long-distance move from Fairport, NY to Sun City Center, FL

Horrible.

Zippyshell.com Zippy Shell Moving and Storage is not where you want to plan for a move.. They were supposed to deliver a 15' container on 7/28/17 between 8-Noon..

I received a phone call at 10:00am telling me that there weren't any containers available for another 1-2 days. They offered to send a box truck to take contents that we wanted loaded back to the warehouse where they would load the container for us when the containers arrived. If all of the contents didn't fit, they would get us a second container at a slightly reduced charge (HA).
I spoke with a "Manager" that kept saying sorry, offering a small discount for the inconvenience, but did not have any solutions that would make sure we didn't get nailed by a second container charge.

Very poor communications, zero project management skills, inability to manage product pipelines.. Considering we booked this job on June 21, 2017 -- NO EXCUSE!

I ended up with PODS that delivered ahead of schedule with outstanding customer service.

Long-distance move from Miami, FL to Saint Helena, CA

Worst possible service and even worse customer service.

Setting up this service was wonderful Nice caring people. I should have gone with the POD people. They arrived on the day of the scheduled move 2 hours late. No phone calls. Moving my elderly mother across country from Florida to California. Scheduled delivery was for Monday july 10 between 8 - 10. COnfirmed wiht the customer service agent on July 6. Drove to N Cal to be available for the delivery. Monday morning no Zippy Shell arrived. I tried calling but just got through to an overflow customer service agent. no answers. No one called back on Monday. When I tried to call several times in the afternoon between 2 - 3 Pacific Time. I got a recording over and over that the offices were closed. They are supposed to be open til 8 pm eastern time. uuugh. I got up Tuesday morning and called at 5:30 since they opened at 8:30 eastern. I did get through to an agent who was sickly sweet but could not give me any information. I asked her to please schedule the delivery for the following Thursday. She said she would do her best. A few minutes later I receive a e-mail confirmation for the following Monday for deliver. between 10 - 12. I tried to call to follow up but only got through again to the overflow company. They do not know anything and can only take a message. By this time the CREDIT card was charged the full amount. No one called until Thursday when I spoke with a "Manager" Roderick. He apologised again over and over and promised to cut the total fee for the inconveninece. He stated he would call on Friday to confirm the Monday delivery. No call Friday. I tried calling and of course the overflow team UUUGH. Monday, No delivery. The POD and all the furniture was finally delivered on Tuesday now a full 22 days on what was supposed to be a 10 day delivery. Never heard back anything from this Roderick person. No discount No communication. Really poor service. Don't use these guys. RUN THE OTHER WAY!!

Local move within Washington

Seattle, WA to New haven, CT travel nightmare:.

Their customer service line speaks for itself. THE WORST moving company. They excel at getting you to sign that contract and tell you about all the bells and whistles that comes with said fare to transport your goods from point A to point B. Very attentive personnel to deliver empty container to your doorsteps to load your personal belongings and then pickup loaded container to begin its journey to Point B.
Once the container leaves your home, expect a month to receive your container at your final destination.

(1) Before signing the contract their sales rep. confirms: *that you should expect your container to arrive between 7-10 BUSINESS days (two weeks). Totally understandable. *Schedules you a drop off container date and gives you 3 business days to load your goods hassle-free. and then pick-up container to begin its journey to final destination.
(2) Days after signing contract and providing them your CC # for the first half of payment they send an email saying that your drop-off container scheduled date is being delayed 7 full days from originally scheduled. (I call their customer service line and they forward my call to the overflow crew and ask for my name and phone number and guarantee they would call me back the same day. and guess what? Never did. This happened many times.
(3) Container finally gets sent on its way back to their distribution center to begin its journey to the East Coast, and 7 business days later they aren't able to tell me the arrival time of my container. 10 business days later still no word. 11 business days later NOTHING. Not even a single call nor apology from their customer service team. I had to stay at a hotel nearby because none of my stuff had arrived for close to four weeks.
(4) But one thing they did great was to collect BOTH payments in full before I ever received my container. I had to speak to one of their managers and finally complaint about all this stress, lack of customer service and lack of integrity from their company. It is a shame when the customer has to micromanage a company for doing the services we supposedly paid for. Manager promised to call me back after my container was delivered to talk about compensation but never did. Disgusting company. Thankfully I took this to legal matters with my Credit Card Company and they refunded me 50% of the total payment.

THIS COMPANY SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS, as a business owner myself, this is NOT right. ZippyShell gives a bad reputation to its industry and its a shame.

I will be sure to use PODS from now on, I'd rather spend $500 more and avoid all this nightmare.

Long-distance move from Tampa, FL to South Bend, IN

Do not use.

While the local staff in the Tampa Bay office were friendly, nothing about that local office, the customer service experience, or our cross-country move went smoothly. They were both inept and unethical, and I would never use this company again or recommend them to anyone.

Some things that went wrong for us:

1) Neither of our 2 shells was delivered on time to our home for us to pack. One was missing a lock.
2) The local office was late to pick up our first shell, and completely forgot to pick up our 2nd shell. I had to call to remind them.
3) For cross-country moves, Zippy shell schedules their deliveries on a first-come, first-served basis with their warehouses. They didn't call to schedule our delivery with the warehouse until two weeks after the first one was picked up, which resulted in them missing their promised ten-day turnaround window by well over a week. That meant no stuff in our new house for over a week.
3) The customer service manager in the corporate office outright lied to me on one occasion (which he admitted to after I pressed him). The customer service staff repeatedly explained to me policies that differed from those offered to me by the manager in that same office.
4). They charged us the balance of our contract amount before our shells were delivered, even after I confirmed with the customer service office that our contract specified otherwise. (We were on their old billing system, which has since changed)
5). Although nothing in our contract specified a surcharge for a piano, the third party delivery company they used charged us an extra $200 for delivering the piano with no notice.
6). We didn't get confirmation of our delivery date/time until 9PM the evening before it was scheduled to arrive.
7). The delivery to our new house was late by over two hours, and when I went outside to greet the truck, both guys had fallen asleep in the cab of the truck.
8.) After we received our final invoice for $4804, we received an additional $300 charge from Zippy Shell two weeks later with no notice whatsoever. That charge was contested through our credit card company.

Long-distance move from Arizona to Ohio

Run the other way!

In the beginning, everything seemed great. The company was in contact with us, talked us through everything and even delivered the shell a day early for packing. We thought we had hit the jackpot with this company.
In the contractual agreement they state it will take 7-10 business days from warehouse to warehouse. We are a small family and we're about to embark on a cross country move, and already stressed out! We arrive in Ohio ( moved from Arizona) and give it the 10 business days. On that 10 th day, we call zippy shell and learn that they have no idea where our shell is, no update to give us and to just call back another time. That was not acceptable. My husband called back and was told they had nothing to tell him . He asked to speak to a manager and they tell him it will take 48 hours for a manager to contact him ! That is unacceptable!! Meanwhile, we find out from another source that our shell has not even left the warehouse in Phoenix. Cool! So what exactly are we paying for?
Finally, today the manager Rod calls my husband and tells him the same exact thing. We have no idea when it will go out, I'll just let you know when we have some information. We advised him that they now are in breach of contract as we were promised our items in 7-10 business days, and now we are at 11. After a heated conversation with Rod ( and being hung up on atleast 4 times) we still have no answers. We explained to him that we will be expecting some type of discount or compensation because they have not followed through with their end of the deal. He told my husband that once the items are delivered, they will discuss if we will or will not be compensated. This is total bull. They are quick to take your money yet they cannot provide An ounce of customer service whatsoever. So we are without all of our belongings, including my husbands motorcycle which is his mode
Of transportation. We are stuck sleeping on the floor and have no items to cook.. our baby it without his crib, toys and more. We are utterly disgusted with how this company has handled this. If we had seen these terrible reviews before hiring them, we would have never used them. Unfortunately we were in a hurry and the price was right. I'll never make that mistake again!
We have now disputed our initial payment with Wells Fargo and I'm pretty sure this is headed into being a lawsuit. Do not use his company unless you never want to receive your items.
