Weststar Relocation

This is my first time writing a review, but I must. I have moved several times over the past few years, and although moving is always awful, and things are likely to go through a little wear and tear en route, this was by far the worst experience of moving I have ever had. Originally quoted 6.5K, I was ultimately charged 10k. The movers smashed my piano, dining chairs, and coffee table. There were shards of broken wood from my kids bunkbed piercing my mattress, and many things didn't get packed at all. Sticky soda or something like it was covering all of my boxes and half of my dishes were smashed to pieces. There was at least 3 thousand dollars worth of damage, but if I through the exhausting process required to claim it all with their insurance, I might be entitled to a $300 reimbursement. It is incredibly violating to watch movers throw your belongings out of a truck and onto your floor without a care, knowing that there really is no consequence. Please never use this company. They should be shut down. Truly.

After waiting four days from the original contracted date for pickup, the story kept changing, and the pick up date kept changing.  No one was communicating, no one was returning phone calls.  No one seemed to know what was going on, where the truck was or when the truck would finally arrive. Originally scheduled pickup for Wed. But I was called on Monday and told it could be late Wed. or possibly Thursday morning. Then I was called Tuesday and told it would definitely not be Wed. but definitely would be Thursday. Then called on Wed. and told the truck had broken down and needed a part. The part had to be ordered, but would be received/repaired on Thursday and the pickup had been rescheduled for Friday or --at the very latest--Saturday morning. Someone was to call me on Thursday with specific time. No one called on Thursday.  I called, left several messages and never received a call back.  I started calling again early friday morning. Each time I had called over the last three days, I was told 'our computer shows the job was picked up on Wed'?? NO IT WAS NOT!!  Then I was told the truck was stopped at a weigh station and had a violation? But, The truck would definitely be there early Saturday morning.  They would call me when they were 45 minutes away to allow me time to meet them at the pick up location. Saturday morning, no one called!  I kept calling until someone finally at 11am told me the truck was in AZ, unloading, about 150 miles away, and would be there before 2pm, and would be calling me when they were 45 minutes away.  At 2pm no one had called.  I started calling every number I had, no one answered,or returned my calls at all.  The salesman for Continental Van lines finally told me the name of the carrier and gave me their dispatch phone number for Julie.  But, it was not an actual number and I couldn't even leave a voice mail.  Then the salesman stopped taking his calls. It is now 3pm, no one at either company is taking calls, returning calls, or seems to have a clue what is going on. Having read the other reviews, obviously my next call will be to an attorney on Monday morning.

PLEASE do not use this company. They were actually hired by Colonial Van Lines Relocation that I hired (not knowing that at the time)
My pickup in Los Angeles was 11/14 and they had a delivery window of up until the 24th. They came on time but started adding packing charges right and left to the quotes I was given. When they found out I had items insured, they told me they needed to be shrink wrapped at an additional fee. Should have been a red flag, but no, and now it is December 2nd and they are telling me that the delivery window is now Dec 6-10th. This is the 4th delivery date I have been given, and meanwhile I am sleeping on a borrowed futon on the floor of an empty house. I called them today to say I was sending someone else to get the load, but they tell me ' it's on the trailer in the middle of a load and will be $1100 to unload' Can they prove it's on there with a picture? Of course not.

Avoid them or you may NEVER get your belongings, I have not.

Weststar was contracted by Colonial Van Lines, another unethical company, and to date can not tell us where our entire life is at.
They over charged, brought shuttle vehicles without contacting us to let us know that that there would be an additional charge.
Very difficult to deal with the driver in charge and no straight answers after over 20 days of having our effects in their possession.
no one seems to know where anything is or when it will arrive.

We have been trying to find out anything thru Colonial, and this has been completely useless, plus called directly to Weststar and have not received any helpful information. Only that the driver should know and Allie can not get a hold of the driver, so knows nothing.

We selectd Weststar because they promised to handle all disassembly and reassembly required, and to have one truck and one crew pick up and deliver end to end. Neither of these turned out to be true. They showed up late with already partially filled trucks when we expressly agreed on one full truck. In preparation, we inventoried our load, brought in an on-side estimator, and filled in Weststar's on-line estimator. Each came up with about 20,000 lbs. When the driver finally arrived, they walked around for about 30 seconds, and announced that thier load estimate was now 28,000 lbs, four TONS heavier than estimated. They refused to load until it was settled. After several panic phone calls, the sales agent offered us a "Flat Rate fee $5000 higher than our original estimate." I agreed, little choice, and work started. We had to get on a plane, so we did not see the end of the process. It was only later I realized that the flat rate removed the requirement that they weigh the load, so no one will ever know what the actual weight was. This seems like a classic bait and switch ploy. 21 days later another truck and another crew showed up with our furniture. Crates clearly marked "THIS END UP" were visible from the door upside down. The crew virtually extorted up front tips, food, etc. by claiming that their contract ended at the driveway. If we wanted it in the house, we'd have to take care of them. They never reassembled anything. Our Adirondack chairs were so disassembled they were nothing but kindling. LOTS of breakage, lots of missing items, items that were not ours were mixed in. I complained, and was given the link to the insurance company. Their take was that A) the paperwork was never completed, B) they're only liable for .60 per lb, C) they're not liable for anything packed by the owner. So the total insruance offer for almost $8000 in damage was $272.30. Brian, the agent (see the BBB rebuttal to this complaint) said after the insurance was done they'd "do right" by us to make up for the damage, the failure to reassemble, and not living up to their agreement. Their final offer was $400. A whopping $128 more for their participation in this disaster. IF we sign a confidentiality agreement and remove our BBB complaint. They even had the gall to tell us that it cost them money to answer a BBB complaint, that could have been more money in our pocket if we hand't complaineed. DO NOT use this compoany, there are plenty of honest ones, just move on.
