My wife and I recently had to relocate to a new state due to a job change and I went online to recieve quotes from moving companies. I received numerous phone calls from different companies, and then got a call from Garret with United Movers Group. From our first conversation, he was very thorough in answering all my questions and explaining the process from start to finish. The estimate he provided me was competitive, even though he over estimated the space in case we forgot an item or two. The movers showed up when they said they would and packed all our items with care, and took their time to make sure nothing was damaged. From the sales associate to the moving crew, their level of professionalism from start to finish was top notch. I would reccomend United to any family or friends looking to move and get it done right the first time around.
NEVER use this company - STOLEN and DAMAGED items.
Our experience with United Movers Group has been nothing short of a scam. We urge everyone to NEVER use this company. We’ve had an extremely negative experience with this company: their sales technique baits you in until you’re stuck with them and then the company basically goes rogue and completely ignores any calls/requests, nor can you ever track where your items are once they leave your location. The company also has a large chunk of your money at this point. Further, this company “lost” a giant portion of our goods (we believe our items were stolen) and has not provided any assistance in recouping them nor have they reached out for any sort of follow-up. Their business practices are extremely poor and we highly question the legitimacy of this company. DO NOT hire United Movers Group!
We normally don’t write reviews but we feel the need to share this negative experience with as many people we can.
We moved across the country from Wisconsin to North Carolina. After doing plenty of research on moving companies, we decided to hire United Movers Group because of their initial willingness to deliver our items in a timely manner and at our agreed-upon quoted cubic footage rate; additionally we were told that all trucks have GPS tracking on them as well and this was a huge plus for us. According to Marcia, the sales representative we booked with, a truck would be able to deliver our items within four days because they “already have a truck going to North Carolina.” These promises and this quote were the “bait” to United Movers Group’s “bait-and-switch” sales technique.
When our moving truck arrived to pick up our items, the “switch” in their business practices was apparent. Suddenly our quote was WAY off: the truck was now requiring 700 more cubic feet of space than quoted which cost us double our quoted amount and the delivery window increased to at least ten days. Further we learned that the trucks do not in fact have any GPS tracking on them. We were stuck at this point – we’d already paid our down payment with United Movers Group, we’d solidified responsibilities for the sale of our home, we’d already packed up our entire lives to move across the country, and had travel, lodging, and new-home responsibilities to take care of. We felt forced to continue our moving process with this company. We paid the loading portion of our balance in cash on the spot to “magically” again have our items delivered to our new home in four days. This delivery timeframe was confirmed with a three-way phone call between my husband, the driver of the truck Ovin, and United Movers Group’s “dispatch” employee. To be clear, this was an extreme hassle and hit to our finances - we had to pull money from our savings account, and thankfully our bank branch happened to be open at 4:00pm on a Saturday night so we could actually withdraw cash. No one told us at any point during the process that paying by check (one of the payment options) would delay delivery by at least five days while the check cleared; This is why we opted for a cash payment, so we didn’t have to wait an additional five days for delivery. In the end, our items did not arrive in the four-day timeframe, nor the ten-day timeframe, (and some big items didn’t arrive AT ALL) so paying via cash or check didn’t matter.
Once the unmarked truck left our home with our goods in tow, we figured we’d see our items again in a few days, as we figured United Movers Group was a professional moving company. THEY ARE NOT!
When the moving truck didn’t show up on our scheduled delivery date, we attempted to contact United Movers Group to find out where our items were, and after several call attempts and voicemails asking for return calls (that we never received), we finally got a hold of “dispatch,” who said our items were somewhere in Indiana. When we asked again for the GPS tracking information on the truck (How did “dispatch” know where our truck was?), we were told there wasn’t any. We were extremely frustrated because we were feeling lied to and because our family, including two young children, had literally been sleeping in sleeping bags on the floor waiting for our beds and items to arrive. EVERY DAY thereafter we followed-up by attempting to contact United Movers Group and were completely ignored, calls were not returned, and no one from the company EVER called us to advise us on the status of the truck or to check-in or offer any advice or assistance.
Days after our original delivery date passed, we finally got a hold of Walter, who now said our items were in a warehouse in Chicago! We did not know who or what to believe at this point – we didn’t have our items, United Movers Group was uncommunicative and extremely unhelpful and they had thousands of our dollars, and we were getting the runaround about where our items were and when they’d be delivered. No one EVER mentioned the possibility of our items being stored in some warehouse.
Finally, 11 days later, our truck arrived. It was at this point that we were told (by our delivery drivers Casey and Steve, with a completely different company called East Coast Movers) that our items had been loaded and unloaded onto several different trucks over the previous two weeks.
We were baited by being told our items were on their way to North Carolina right away because the truck had two North Carolina deliveries to make. Had we known about any storage warehouse, the lack of GPS tracking, a non-direct drive to our destination, or any switching of trucks, we most definitely would NOT have chosen United Movers Group. All this was in combination with the ridiculously poor to practically non-existent communication and being given the runaround about where our items were or when they were going to be delivered.
The two delivery men unloaded our items and at this point we noticed MANY of our large and valuable items were completely MISSING. This is in addition to the many damaged items that arrived. Items that were NEVER DELIVERED (and are all listed on our inventory sheets and so are contractually-bound to be delivered) include: a king-sized mattress, a mountain bike, a push lawn mower, a child’s train table, 2 garden hose reels with hoses, a child’s Powerwheels ride-on toy, a folding card table, an end table, a child’s sandbox, a hunter’s archery target, a box filled with children’s books for a classroom, a box of kitchen items, and a box of undetermined contents because the handwriting on the inventory sheet is illegible.
We immediately requested claims paperwork from Walter with United Movers Group. Walter was extremely unhelpful, unapologetic, and “didn’t understand the problem” of why we were so upset. A claims form was emailed to my husband from Walter but it had ZERO identifiable information on it – no company name, no phone number, no address, no contact information – NOTHING! This was yet another scam-like maneuver, so my husband demanded a new form with this information on it for legitimacy.
It has been over 30 days since we’ve moved. We still do not have any of our missing items. We have filed claims with United Movers Group and with our homeowner’s insurance company. We have also filed a police report for the theft of our missing items.
We regret hiring United Movers Group and discourage anyone from using them in the future. Our experience has been HORRIBLE. It has been the most frustrating, irresponsible, and untrustworthy experience. We believe this company is operating a scam business.
We chose to provide this review so no one else has to go through the turmoil and headaches we’ve endured using United Movers Group.
*We wanted to give United Movers Group 0/5 stars, but were only allowed to choose 1 star.*
*We had multiple stolen/missing items and many damaged items but could not find where to change the answers to these prompts when filling out the review form.*.
I won't even bother even bother explaining the absolute absurdity of my actual move. Long story short, I booked them with a specific delivery date 7 weeks in advance. Told them they could pick up my items whenever (most were in a storage unit) but I needed them delivered by a certain date. They were over a week late delivering my items which meant my parents and I, who came with me to Philadelphia, were sleeping on air mattresses we had to go buy at Walmart.
Anyways, during this whole ordeal, I was charged an extra $545.25 by "mistake". I spoke directly with customer service "manager" Walter on June 14th. He realized the mistake and said I was lucky because they send on checks on the 1st and 15th of each month. Lucky Me, right? WRONG.
As I write this review, I have sent 6-7 emails to their cs@unitedmoversgroup.com account regarding the whereabouts of my check. I have spoken to the accounting dept twice, a customer service rep 8 times and even Walter himself twice.
Worst part, on June 28 I was told by the rep that he actually went to the accounting dept and saw MY CHECK. HE PHYSICALLY SAW MY CHECK THAT WAS TO BE MAILED OUT. Guess what? It was not.
I was told by Walter on July 22 that he sees my check on the desk and assured me that it would be mailed out on August 1st.
Throughout this whole ordeal. I have left over 10 voice mails on Walter's direct line. Numerous emails. and many more voice mails on the general customer service voicemail box. AND LITERALLY HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A SINGLE CALL BACK OR AN EMAIL BACK.
Totally unprofessional, took our deposit and ran away with it. Absurd.
This just happened today, and now I'm sitting here writing this review still wondering how in the world, could any people in the service industry, do something so bad to the customers. If I could give a 0 instead of 1 as my rating, I would do it.
I got in touch with United Movers Group on 8/1/2017, they sounded really excited about the opportunity - answered my calls very fast, got back to me within minutes when they missed the call. After getting my description (number of boxes, types of furniture, etc), they gave me a quote, and mentioned several times that the final bill would only be LOWER than the estimation. Total cost was estimated as $2200 and 35% of it was due as deposit. I paid the deposit, then things started to change - they'd often miss my calls, they never called me back unless I called over and over again.
Yesterday, which was the day before moving day, I had to call them twice to confirm the moving would be today, and the dispatch center told me to wait at home between 9AM to 11AM. I was pretty happy about the time window, since after the moving we'll be heading our way to the new home as well.
Then there comes today, we waited from 9AM to 12PM, there was no one. I was frustrated so I called the manager, and he said "let me check, get back to you very soon". Waited from 12PM to 1PM, had to call again, this time the manager said "I was just talking to the truck driver, and they will be at your home in 1.5 hrs.". Better late than never, we waited till 2:30PM. And no one showed up. Finally at 3:30PM, the truck was here. - NOTE, it's already 4.5 hours LATE than the time they specifically promised (9AM to 11AM).
Those guys came into my house, took a look around and went back to the truck to call the Chicago dispatch center. The dispatch center soon called me saying based on their visual estimation, my $2200 estimate (20 boxes) is no longer the case, they said it would be at least double the price - $4400, and worst case would be $5000 (we have 22 boxes). I was totally stunned, and said I need to discuss it with my wife. The person from the Chicago dispatch center then became impatient: "How much time would you need?" I said 10 to 20 minutes. He started yelling: "We also have other customers after this. We can't wait!" I said: "What? You guys were late for 4.5 hours but we waited all the way. And your manager said the truck will be exclusive to us."
This was the exact moment when I knew they were professional liars - the person said "My manager might said that to you. But hey, was it in the contract you signed? You should have read more carefully about the contract. What we said, if it was not there, then it's not there." I became so frustrated so I asked him: "You are doubling the price you gave me. We waited 4.5 hours for you so isn't it fair to let us at least discuss for 10 minutes whether we'd like to continue with it or not?" AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED? THIS DISPATCH CENTER GUY, HUNG UP MY CALL!
Then those guys in the truck started driving away. I went out quickly and talked to the driver. He told me: "My dispatch center person said you have too many questions. We don't want to do business with you anymore." At this moment, we didn't have much choice. So I called the dispatch center again, but they never picked up the call. I quickly left two voice messages saying we'd like to continue with the moving, even if the price may double. But after the truck stopped there for 2 minutes, they drove away anyway. YES, they came, they left, they drove away with my deposit paid, they drove away with me saying we'd like to continue with the moving.
TL;DR: They change price at any minute. But taking our deposit and running away? First time knowing a company could be so absurd. We'll file our complaint and go with legal ways for sure. Stay away from United Movers Group if you don't want to be ripped off.
I am very Pleased to say I am a customer for life of United Movers Group!! Theze guys rock!! I had only moved one time before it was with what is with mayflower when I called me for for this move I hadn't realized how expensive moving was my previous company I worked for had pay for the move. So I figured I would go with a private company that was in a franchise I did research over the Internet and the DOT say directed me to go to Mum company that had trucks in their moving fleet and not just a brokerage license. After seeing that the department of transportation site for United movers group had over 20 trucks registered to them I felt comfortable knowing they were going to actually perform a move. I spoke with Steve or United and he gave me a detailed quote based off of all the furniture in my home and we did do it over estimation on the box account just to play it safe. I'm very happy with the service and the movers are very professional thank you a lot United.
I have to say these guys are very good. This is my first what they call long distance move. I almost booked with a company until my wife look them up and saw that they were not that great!! So are we did then was call the moving company and ask them the things that we could look out for a booking all of this is will they said make sure the company was open multiple years and her trucks. So are we did then was call the moving company and ask them the things that we could look out for a booking all of this is will they said make sure the company was open multiple years and her truck center. We put our "side-by-side United was not the cheapest quote or the most expensive they were right actually in the middle of light seems like a lot better choice with them are very very expensive out of our budget so we figured we give united the shot. Even in bringing some additional items they were very reasonable and right in there binding ballpark quote that they had originally Gave us.. thanks united.
Moved from Seattle to Tennessee they brokered moving our belongings to other movers who were basically day labors who didn't give a sh$# about our stuff they were 3 days late for pickup and 2 weeks late delivering wouldn't answer my calls or emails and they said they were sorry about all this and would take $500 off the $9000 I paid at the end but when I went to pay final bill I ask about the $500 for all the trouble and nobody knew anything and held my stuff hostage till I paid everything! Stay away from this company!! We had a lot of missing and broke stuff when I ask the driver he told me sh@# happens good luck. Screw this company!!
When my father observed that our family business would fetch more profits in Montgomery than we ever achieved in Virginia, we knew it was time to move. My job was to search for a good mover and I landed on the National Moving Group from my searches online. We contacted them and they promised to do all the work for us. We were living in a two family full furnished apartment and we were worried we might not be able to move everything expediently. The manager at Nation Moving Group gave us plenty of reassurance and a friendly quote. After smooth preliminary planning, the crew arrived with all the right tools and embarked on the task right away. There was a lot to be done, but there were no complaints from the crew. They treated all members of my family with respect and by the end of the move - we all expressed our graditude for their professionalism and affordability.
After reading the reviews before posting, there isn't anything I can add. This is the biggest scammer in the business: bait and switch, a "binding estimate" that binds the customer but not the business, assurances of DOT registration and ownership of their trucks, incompetent movers, lost furniture, refusal to respond to communications - the list goes on. I managed to get out with most of my stuff a month later and only spending $4,600 because I chose to move some stuff myself and I had friends who rescued me from add-on charges on delivery by actually unloading and delivering my stuff themselves. All this while missing an important antique cabinet and one leg of a grand piano followed by no efforts to recover them or make things right. Fraud, misrepresentation, extortion beyond belief.
Had to put at least one star to do this review, but the company only deserves negative stars. It is the absolute worse moving company that is open. In the beginning, they will quote you on all your items, give you cheap prices, call it a binding contract, and as soon as they pick up your items they charge more than $2,000 than you signed up for. Then, when you try to call the specialist who assisted you, they no longer are at that direct line nor does the person at that line respond to voicemails or emails. The only time you can actually reach customer service, coincidentally enough, is when your items arrive and the manager says "I can no longer do anything about the issue." Interesting how the manager doesn't even try to make an attempt to help. And talk about the subcontractors they use to pick-up and deliver your items.. refused to do door to door service, brought a 53' truck with only maybe a 20' truck worth of items in it, and tried to charge us more money even though their own supervisor said we didn't have to pay extra as they cornered us in our garage. Then, as they left, they threatened us saying "Next time we'll charge you $2,000 extra again." Harassment is an understatement to say the least.
