Simple Moving Labor

Overall, I was very pleased with SML.  The pickup was in Indiana and the loaders were very professional and helpful with packing.  No problems with reference to damages.  Loaders were on time and I was charged the agreed upon price (no hidden charges).  The unloading was in North Carolina the next day.  Again, overall, I was pleased.  One mover tried moving too much at one time and resulted in some broken glassware.  Again, on time and charged what I had agreed to.  I would use SML again if the situation arose.

We had ProMovers load a 16 ft. truck. They were knowledgable, hardworking and polite.  Easy to communicate with.  They were very careful with our "stuff" They loaded in three hours which was the minimum period. We had workers unload the truck.  Again the workers were hardworking, polite and careful with our things.  They unloaded in the two-hour minimum. Our interactions to contract with SML were very easy.  SML representatives were very knowledgeable and courteous. On both ends of the move, a SML rep called soon after the movers arrived to assure that everything was going well. The alliance with Penske was a very convenient and less-expensive benefit. I will highly recommend SML to any of my friends who need this service.

This company is terrible. I used them for packing and unpacking 16’ truck. Got phone number trough Penske truck rental. They should arrive between 9 am and 10 am, showed up FOUR hours late, that ruined my whole day and plans I had for evening. I ordered movers helpers but because of late arrival I was promised to get professional movers. WHAT A JOKE!! They were just young guys with no idea of properly moving.  After loading truck and driving short distance (7 miles) I found everything being upside down.  They used my on wheels coffee table to move heavy boxes, and then damp them in the new place without total consideration for content or orientation (boxes where clearly marked). So far (and I’m still unpacking) I have furniture full of scratches, my clothes were thrown out of drawers and hastily put in (they all had to be washed), had to throw out some broken dishes and glass. I’m dreading to unpack more boxes with glass and art work for fear what to expect. I my moving several times (some of across the country) I never lost a single item, but then I packed trucks myself. Next time will do it again ALL by myself, that will guarantee that I won’t lose anything. I WILL NEVER AGAIN USE THIS COMPANY. DO YOURSELF A BIG FAVOR, DON’T EVEN THING ABOUT THIS COMPANY unless you don’t care about thinks you have.   .

I received moving helpers that did the job.  Nothing outstanding, not the fastest, but helped load and unload items I could not do myself and was one of the very few moving help options in my area. The helpers actually arrived before the scheduled time (they were waiting then I pulled up with my truck rental).  The helpers were not much to look at but the two were able to lift and move everything that was needed and fit it snugly into the truck.  The only casualty was the contents of a drawer that was my fault.  They were not the fastest movers, taking multiple short breaks while I continuously loaded and unloaded (I have a hard time sitting around).  So, they may have taken a little longer than needed.  They were nice to talk to and asked were things should go if it was not obvious. Not as good as other movers I have used before, but they were not in the area I currently live. Only complaint is the lack of a final invoice for what I would actually be charged with the additional time needed.

We had ProMovers load a 22' truck combining things from 2 separate apartments ~20 miles apart.  Both movers were very punctual, hardworking, polite, and very respectful of handling the furniture.  The move was originally slated for 3 hours but because of travel time between apartments it ended up taking 5 hours.  I was concerned this would be an issue but the movers stayed until the end without question. My only complaint is that the progress seemed to slow considerably over the last hour with more time spent discussing where the last pieces would go rather than actually putting them on the truck. Our interactions with SML were smooth and easy.  The representatives were very accommodating and a rep called us before, during, and after the move to assure everything went as planned. I will highly recommend SML to any of my friends who need this service.

I rented a U-Haul and hired SML forthe loading and unloading.  The loading was particularly difficult as it was a two-story house on the loading end with a couple of difficult twists at the bottom of the stairs, then a 12' climb up a driveway to a truck parked on a steep incline. The movers handled it beautifully.  It tooklonger than I expected, but I was unprepared for the extensive wrapping of the furniture to protect it.  They knew what were doing doing, and their main man, Napolean, was a master atlogistically placing the furniture for saving space and for protection. The unloading side went extremely fast.  I would certainly recommend these guys to anyone.

I hired SML helpers who I thought would be able to help with my move. One complained about knee injuries and was not physically able to move items so she carried the light items from the bottom of the stairwell to the truck (about 6 feet). The other showed up an hour late and then spent his time chatting and I had to ask him (twice) to help me move a futon. My friends and I moved the sofa, chairs and heavy boxes down the stairs and also loaded the truck. I complained SLB that it was false advertising to send "helpers" who could not or would not help and they gave me a $30 rebate. So I still spent $200 to haul my own furniture. I would never ever use them again.

We were hired for 3 separate jobs, and we were never paid, and they won't return our phone calls or emails. Do not use this company they are a fake. Poor customer service, rude, unprofessional, should be put out of business. Gives movers a bad name. They lie and say they don't sub out their labor, but they sub out all work, they employ no movers. Please do your research before hiring this company. There are plenty of professional services out there,unfortunately this isn't one of them.

  We were moving to Albany NY and found a link from the Penske rental site for SML -Simple Moving Labor.  The two "helpers" showed up seperately.  One early and the other right on time - this was not an easy feat considering the main entrance was closed so the only entrance was around the back of the building.  They took time to ask a few questions about how we wanted to proceed and did a great job of helping.  I had loaded the truck and able to move all times to the back of the truck where my helpers carried all items into the building, up the elevator, and into the apartment without any incidents at all.

I used SML for our move from a townhouse in McLean VA to Orlando FL last October. I paid for "pro" movers to load our rental truck and basic labor to unload. The loaders did a horrible job that resulted in damage to many pieces of furniture but was not noticable until we unloaded. I followed the company directions for submitting a claim that involved 2-3 numbered pictures of each piece and description. Sent it in and have received no status as of March 2015. They did send me correspondence stating I owed them $200 due to a credit card error before they could address my claim. I paid it immediately and have heard nothing since. I will never use this company again and suggest that anyone considering them forget about any settlement for damages. Professional movers is a joke!! Don't waiste your money!!

Chose Simple Moving Labor through Penske rental for loading only in NC.  Used "pro" movers and pleased with work.  3 men showed up on time, were polite and professional and careful with our belongings. Did a very good job of packing our rental truck.  From phone contact, to email support to checking on arrival of labor, the SML folks did as promised.  Our only complaint was the cost.  We paid more than double to load using SML than to unload in Texas (different service but equally as good), and for the nearly $600 for 3.5 hours, we are appalled that the loaders received $10 per hour for their work.   That is shameful, and we would think twice before using this service until staff is paid better.   .

On 2/22/15 two young men arrived to unload my Penske rental. The movers were scheduled through SML. Prior to the scheduled move date I received courtesy reminders from SML which I found to be helpful. On the day of the unload the two movers arrived on time. Both young men were friendly and professional. They demonstrated great care in moving my belongings and respect for my home by laying protective covers on the entry as not to track in dirt, etc. This is the second time I have employed SML services and I would not hesitate to use them again.

I contracted SML to help load my moving truck in Maryland.  I then drove the truck and unloaded at the other end without their help.  The SMP movers showed up on time, moved everything very quickly, and were very curtious and professional.  My only non-positive comment is they did not come prepared to move a refrigerator and they were not ready for snow on the ground.  I had multiple communications with SML prior to the move and reminded them that we had a fridge that needed to be moved outside the house and it had just snowed.  (Moving up stairs would require removal of doors.) The movers ended up carrying the fridge around the house in the snow because they did not bring a dolly.  They also did not have boots, but the final result was they moved it and there was no damage.  I would strongly recommend SML in the future and I will use them for a future move if needed.
 
The other great thing is I rented with Penske and Penske paid for more than 1/2 of the total cost of the SML movers.  .

By no means are the men who unloaded the truck are part of my negative review. They were Great. The loaders are another matter. They took way to much time to load the truck & the space was not utilized. I had to rent a UHaul trailer to get the rest on. They spent the time having family come over with food While waiting for me to return. They also had others come over too during the day on several occasions. There was no room for my Plantation Shutters & offered to give me 30 minute off the bill for them. I asked about the breaks & lunch they took but was told that wouldn't constitute more break time. Those shutters cost me over $6,000 when purchased in 2008. I would think they probably made a lot more on them than 30 minute credit & their continual wasting of time. Jerry Miller.

This company is the worst moving company I have ever dealt with.  I had 2 movers pack my truck, they were on time and nice guys but they did not use the 24 moving pads I provided on the most important items.  I had many items damaged on arrival but the worst was a brand new refrigerator, the door was completely dented because they did not wrap a pad around it!! And they shoved it up so hard against the side of the truck, it dented the door.  When I filled out all the claim paperwork, pictures, etc. they denied my claim!! They probably never pay out claims, why would they, they can always say it happened during transit, how can anyone prove that!!  Horrible Company!!

We loaded the Penske truck ourselves in Mohawk, Tn.  We drove to Savannah, Ga to unload.  The crew to unload was on time and courteous.  They were immediately concerned because they were told it was a first floor apartment when I very specifically told the company it was on the third floor with no elevator.  They said that they usually bring another person to help on a third floor unload so as to minimize the risk of overworking the crew.  I would not authorize addition cost since I specifically told the company it was a three floor move.  The company even called back to confirm it was a three floor move without an elevator.   The movers said they understood and said they would take it up with the company.  They continued with the unload and did a fantastic job. Somebody really broke down the communication link at the workers expense. in summary, the local people were excellent but somebody in the office messed up. .

I would highly NOt recommend SML for moving. I hired Pro-movers instead of just muscle that needed supervision, for an upcharge  of course. that was a waste of money. I had 60 moving pads to pack, 15 of which that were not used. So there is no excuse for lack of use. Furniture was stacked against furniture with nothing between them. Pictures were taken and sent to claims dept. to verify. Concret yard ornament loaded against leather chair, chairs loaded against old barn door without padding. the list goes on. Expensive matress torn by mishandling. when pictures were sent to claims dept., I was told it happended in transit, which is not covered becase they did not drive the truck. I have been driving a truck for 40 yrs., and the Penske truck was like new. And it was my fault? I was denied ANY REIMBURSTMENT. I WILL BE REPORTING THEM THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU to file a complaint. Again, hire someone else that will accept responsibility when they are at fault. When I called to verify final amount owed, 2 days later $165.00 dollars was added on my charge card.
