Long-distance move from Texas to Florida

Scam.

I was originally quoted for around $1600. The estimated weight seemed really low so I called to tell them it would be more weight. I also realized I had forgotten to include a few items so I then called again to add items to my list of inventory. They made it seem like it was no big deal and it would be an easy fix at the end. When I got my actual bill it was $4700! A HUGE difference from my original $1600 quote. I was told it was because I had a more than expected weight.. which I completely understand and is why I called to add things to my inventory. A difference of $3,100 is absurd. They gave me a great sticker price, had me sign a contract, and then screwed me over by an obscene final bill. This move was unexpected as my father passed away and I was having to move out his apartment to a storage unit. I wish I had done my homework beforehand a $4700 moving bill is not something I can afford.. but if you can't afford it they charge you $75 a WEEK to keep your items in their storage. I was not pleased with the customer service either as they seemed very annoyed that I found this final bill a ridiculous cost. Be very careful if you choose to use shipsmart and expect a major difference in your final bill. Complete scam and very disappointed.

Long-distance move from Berkeley, CA to Carmel, IN

They claim to move fine art.. No way..

My move was a 1 bedroom work apartment from California to the Midwest. I had purchased all furniture in the apartment new 2 years ago, and 99% of the time I was the only one in the apartment —-so everything was in brand new condition. I went with Shipsmart based on their initial low (scam) quote and the fact that when you were on hold with them they touted the fact that they specialize in small moves, and had moved art museums, fine art, and even NASA. Clearly that was a load of marketing BS, as your items will not be treated like fine art in any way. They contract everything out to partner companies, so to my knowledge the only Shipsmart employees I dealt with were people on the phone who provided the “estimate“. ultimately, nearly everything I moved had scratches, dings or dirt on it. I was upset and shocked, as I really thought they might be a quality alternative. The biggest scam is the insurance. Be sure and read the fine print, because there is a $1000 deductible. and of course on move-in, you’re so frantic that you don’t notice all of the damage… the dings, dents, scratches. And at that point it’s too late to claim that they did the damage when you one hundred percent know that they did, but with a $1000 deductible, if they did $1500 worth of damage you only get $500 , as an example— in my case I paid $150 for their worthless insurance. What really gets me is the obvious lack of care they took handling my furniture. The couch had been banged around and had dents in the frame and worn spots on the material, but not so much that I could claim it needed replaced.. one small ($300) end table I had was very damaged, and when I think of that end table I think “how in the world did this company move NASA or an art museum?”. my mattress, which I bought a heavy duty (not just standard) sealed mattress bag for was ripped, and the mattress soiled. An area rug which had been rolled up with a cinch strap, had been refolded by Shipsmart, and was crumpled and dirty, i’m still trying to get it to lay flat and hope it isn’t permanently damaged— which also means I’m still waiting—- five days later —-to put furniture on it. if I had it to do over again, I would have definitely gone with a bigger professional moving company— from the estimates I received the cost would’ve been about the same, but again, I trusted shipsmart‘s marketing nonsense on being a small-move professional.

Intentional Bait and Switch

Unfortunately, there is no way to get an accurate estimate of your move before they have your belongings. The estimate is, of course, much lower than the actual price but that price is only revealed once they have your items (for several days if not weeks) and have packaged them. You are still on the hook for some costs then even if you cancel. The weight is also only determined once they pack your items and includes the packaging they choose.

The items did arrive in good condition, packaged well. Curbside is the standard price package which means they put it in the driveway and you are responsible from there.

Bait and Switch

Even if you provide the weight of the items, they don't weigh it before packaging and then charge shipping costs for a weight that is way more than the items being shipped. Expect your real cost to be twice to 2.5x higher than their "estimate". They intentionally quote with an under weight in their initial quote. Then they package to ensure the highest weight.

DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY

You are lucky if you are reading this review.

I have moved multiple places within USA and i know how these moving companies try to play with customers.

While, i was having a discussion on quotes with this company they understood that i was asking them very specific questions and she was initially nervous while lying, and then she disconnected the call.

They said, they do not bother size or weight of the item, they just need quantity of the item to generate quote.

They have front desk executive, trained to cheat people.

Long-distance move from Santa Barbara, CA to Portland, OR

The worst moving company.

I have been trying to find out when my belongings will be delivered for over a week. When I call they keep telling me I will receive a call by end of the day. They never call! 5 times now and I have no idea where my things are or when I will receive them. Plus I had to pay $1000 more than the quote. All I can do not is fill a complaint with the start attorney's office and hire an attorney and sue them. Good luck if you have hired Ship Smart.

Horrible experience - AVOID AT ALL COSTS

The only reason I've given them two stars instead of one is because they refunded me for the amount I spent in an Airbnb because my stuff was well over 2 weeks late for the date promised. I called them daily for over a month down to the very day my items were to get dropped off because no one even confirmed the delivery the day of. Continuous long hold times and despite baby sitting the process the entire time, it took 1.5 months to receive my stuff from a STUDIO apartment. My computer chair and dishware also arrived broken. Additionally I was quoted 5000 and was told after they took everything that it would be 6300. The movers arrived late at the beginning of the move (3.5 hours) at at the destination (3 hours late) without any communication what so over from their side. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Slow, expensive, dishonest

$2000 over quote and over 5 weeks late for a small move. ShipSmart is not a moving company, it's just a middleman for shipping companies. So if you have a good move with them, you got lucky that they contracted a good mover. If you get unlucky, like I did, then not only is your move very delayed and misquoted, but also ShipSmart doesn't know what's going on with their contractors, and they put you in a horrible cycle of them saying "it will ship next week," next week passes, you call to see what happened, wait a cumulative 2 hours on hold, and get bullshitted again. It's hard to convey the amount of hold music I listened to because of ShipSmart, and I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy.

In the end they took so long that I flew back across the country to rescue my stuff from the warehouse with a UHaul. When I arrived I found the warehouse so full that pallets of people's belongings were spilling into the street. There were two guys(!!!) working there.

Save yourself and pick someone else.

I hired Ship Smart...Bad Decision

I hired Shipsmart, their office out of Santa Fe Springs, CA, in August 2021, to handle a small move from CA to TX of about 25 items for a client of my small concierge company. What a horrible experience! The company is poor at communicating, difficult to reach, inaccurate at estimating costs (the final shipping cost was more than double what they estimated), and very poor at prompt performance timelines. Service through them drags on and on. They also told MY client, the customer I referred to them, inaccuracies and outright misrepresentations about information communicated to me and then back to the customer...Making me look bad in my client's eyes. Tread lightly with this group. In my experience, they are disorganized, inefficient and practice poor business ethics. Thanks Shipsmart, you really screwed me over.

Professionalism, Responsiveness

Ignore my previous post - Shipsmart made this right. As part of my attempt to move a small number of items from one coast to the other, there was some confusion at the loading site regarding the contents of my contract. It resulted in far more items being moved then I had desired. In retrospect, I strongly recommend that individuals be present at the loading site when possible. It will help alleviate confusion and clarify any questions. That said, Ship Smart was able to reimburse me for the amount that was in question. Greatly appreciate their professionalism and responsiveness!
