BEWARE!! this company destroyed almost $30'000 worth of items, and took over a week past the delivery date to deliver. They were very nice and seemed great until they had all my things. As soon as they had my belongings I received nothing but attitude, disrespect and threats to hold my belongings hostage. They over charged me by over $3000, they demanded $11'000 to deliver a . When they finally did arrive, my things were DESTROYED. I took before and after photos and have video evidence that I wish I could post here. $30'000 worth of damage, furniture destroyed and disassembled with no screws or hardware to be put back together, Children devastated as their personal belongings are mangled and mistreated. 100000% would run from this company, they have not responded to the legal action I have taken against them.
This company is very well named! I called to arrange a last minute move, I spoke with Joan who was friendly, capable and professional and quickly arranged my pickup within two days. Her estimate of my moving weight was better than mine ( I over estimated) and all fees were fully disclosed. The day of the move the movers were on time, quickly assessed and moved my belongings taking care to wrap my furniture and bag the mattresses; they even helped carry out a desk that was being left behind! Within an hours of the movers leaving Joan called to provide the total weight of my move and my balance owing (due on delivery) I was pleasantly surprised at the price and it was a relief know in advance exactly how much would be collected at the other end. I requested my belongings take as long as possible to be delivered so that I could try and locate an apt to deliver to. Only a minor hiccup at the end when they showed up a few days early and I had to scramble to rent storage but they were extremely accommodating and we met in the middle. Both on pickup and delivery I dealt with Shane. He was friendly professional and kept me in the loop all the way through. Careful and efficient, he was very thorough in ensuring every piece was wrapped to prevent damage. As long as you are realistic about the weight you are planning to move you should have no unpleasant surprises or hidden costs, at least I didn't. The quote was one of the lowest I received, and total cost even lower than quoted. Would highly reccommend Reasonable Trucking for your move!
Anything but reasonable trucking! Wouldn't recommend unless you need a stress test. I needed to move from Halifax to Toronto. I contacted the company and spoke to Joan. She seemed nice and friendly and gave me reasonable quotes and a pickup date (2 weeks before my flight) and delivery date (1 day after I arrive in Toronto). Mind you I booked my flight according to the delivery date agreed. All these seemed fine and dandy.
On the pickup date, 2 guys showed up to move our stuff into the truck. One of the guys (Jim) came up, numbered our boxes and started loading them onto a dolly. He did the loading and unloading by himself while the other guy, who was the owner, Gordon, just stood in the truck to receive the items and organize in the truck. We felt terrible for Jim that he was doing most of the work himself and helped him carry and move the items to the truck. The items placed in the truck were not wrapped in blankets or any sort of protective padding at this point.
Fast forward to the day before my flight, I received a call from Gordon saying they're here and ready to deliver my items. Exasperated, I stated I couldn't receive the items as I was still in Halifax and had no one to open the door or even book the elevator in the condo. I told him the agreed date between Joan and I and as per the contract. I asked him if I could still expect my belongings on the agreed date and he said it is absolutely impossible as they have a large home pickup that was booked before me. Therefore, I believed they had double booked on that day or somehow missed the house booking when I called to book. He could not give me a sure date for delivery. He said maybe tomorrow or I'll let you know later. This went on for 5 days where either I'll call Gordon wondering when my items will be delivered and be rejected for the time being and left on edge with a "maybe this evening I'll let you know later" or him calling out of the blue saying he can deliver now. Mind you I need to book the condo service elevator in advance and provide a deposit to book it. So whenever he calls, I would frantically try to coordinate that and to have a family member be home to receive the items. Finally, on Saturday evening, I received a call from Gordon saying he can deliver on Sunday morning.
Sunday morning rolls around and he shows up an hour before the agreed time. To make matters worse, they showed up with the massive 75ft truck and could not get anywhere close to the loading dock. As the condo did not allow moving items be brought in through the lobby, the truck ended up being parked round the corner of the street to the condo and we (Jim, my family member and I) had to haul the boxes and furniture down the street and up the elevator to the condo ourselves. Gordon had the audacity to just sit in the truck and did not step foot outside at all. Honestly, if you would like to pay for a workout just go with reasonable trucking. This was finally the end of my week long nightmare.
The only good thing I can say from this whole experience is at least my items were not damaged and none missing. Which is surprising as I noticed none of my items were wrapped in blankets/padding in the truck. One of the boxes containing liquids was wet, presumably they had the box on the side/upside down although I had clearly written this side up only on every surface.
Please be aware, they will also ask you to pay before they arrive which I had strongly refused as I needed to be sure my items arrived. This was not in the contract as the contract said to be paid upon arrival before unloading. Joan said this is the first time she had a client refuse to pay before arrival. So be careful, they will gaslight you if you do not know your rights and what's in the contract and what you're entitled to.
Hi Ms. Park - We are very sorry you felt you had to put in such a negative review of your move with us. At the time your belongings were loaded in Halifax, Gordon could not leave the truck as he was parked in a no parking area and had to stay with it. His job is very important so to ensure your belongings are properly packed into the truck to avoid any damage (and there was none). I am advised by Jim that you only carried one box to the truck in Halifax. Your move was a small one and you received a very, very low price for your move. The price was only $1,427, not the $1,500 you mentioned below your review. I do not normally book a delivery date that far in advance and the first sentence in your contract is that pickup and delivery dates are estimated and not guaranteed. While we were in the process of preparing for your move with you, we asked you to confirm whether or not there was adequate access for the tractor trailer for delivery in Toronto. You assured us there was. When Gordon tried to deliver the day before the day you wanted delivery, you told us that deliveries could not be made on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we were already booked on Friday and that deliveries could not be made on Saturday's. When Gordon arranged for your delivery on the Sunday, they discovered there was absolutely no access for the tractor trailer to get into the loading area. Gordon offered to do a shuttle for you and you refused. (This would have meant renting a small truck, transferring your belongings to it and delivering them to the proper loading area. (This is also outlined in the contract). You refused to pay for a shuttle so Gordon had no choice but to park in a fire lane and was unable to leave the tractor trailer. Because you refused a shuttle, you decided to help Jim take your belongings up to the apartment. We did not ask you to do this. It is clearly stated in the contract that liquids of any type cannot be moved due to the fact that they can leak and get into other people's belongings. We do not ask you to pay for your move before they arrived to deliver. It is clearly stated in the contract that payment is to be made when the men arrive to deliver. On that Sunday morning, I merely reminded you to pay for the move when they arrived. If you have any questions about your move, please let me know. Otherwise, a more positive review would be appreciated because your review contains many false statements. Thank you.
I would absolutely stay far far away from Reasonable Trucking. There is nothing reasonable about them – from their rates, to their service.
SHORT VERSION – Reasonable Trucking…
- -Has appalling customer service
- - will give you a low quote to look competitive but you will end up paying for more than you expected
- -doesn’t have proper equipment and will break your items without taking responsibility
- - will play with your move date without proper communication
- -will illegally refuse to give you your proper documentation
- -will check off items from itemized list that were not accounted for
LONG VERSION:
I went with the company for my move from Toronto to Halifax on the recommendation of a friend. I should have checked the Better Business Bureau before booking them.
After arranging the details of my move, I received an email saying their truck broke down and they would be coming at the end of the week instead of at the beginning. I received a phone call 5 days before I expected them there asking if they could come right over since they were in the neighbourhood. I said I wasn't ready, and that I wasn't expecting them until the end of the week (I received a call Sunday - I wasn't expecting them until Friday). They said that was no problem, but that they would come the next day or the day after. You can imagine my panic being told I had less days than I thought to pack and get ready for a huge move across provinces.
Since I still had no idea from that phone call when I could expect them, or if they would just surprise me again by saying they were 'in the area' I emailed the office. Joan, the wife of the owner, kept reassuring me that "everything would be fine" even though I expressed my concerns about them coming early, how much extra this would cost me, that I didn't know when to expect them, and that this changed my entire schedule for the week.
Unfortunately, the biggest problem with them coming days early was the hundreds of extra pounds (and hundreds of extra dollars) this cost me. As a trucking service, they charge by weight. I had expected to be able to purge many pounds, but with the reduced timeline was forced to focus on packing.
*they charged me 42 cents/pound. They originally asked for 44 cents/pound but I asked for a student discount. Ask to see the weight ticket before you pay - moving companies charging by the pound are obliged to give you a copy. Speaking of the weight ticket, I was told I was only being charged what they were charged to weight the truck ($25). When I saw the receipt I saw that they had only been charged $18. Joan lied. I would also be aware that you probably have many more pounds than you are being quoted. A low quote looks like a cheap move, but you will be unpleasantly surprised when you receive your final bill – go with a company that will give you an honest estimate of what to expect.
But this wasn't all. When they got to my house (an hour and a half later than they said they would be there), they told me their truck wouldn't fit on my street, so they parked around the corner. Because they didn't have a dolly they made some kind of makeshift dolly with a wobbly board on wheels. I saw my boxes and bins tumble off this unsteady equipment least 3 times, including once where I happened to be standing beside it and was able to catch some of my boxes, and another time when I heard a crash and came out to find the contents of one of my bins spilled out into the street. The owner, Gordon, admitted that he has seen my things fall repeatedly from where he was at the truck, and didn’t step in and do anything about it.
When I emailed Joan to let her know that I was very concerned that I would find many items broken, she kept repeating that "everything would be fine." I asked about the lack of proper equipment (they ARE a moving company after all - a moving dolly is absolutely standard equipment), and she let me know that I should feel lucky; the guys had saved me $600 by using a makeshift dolly instead of having to rent equipment. After this fiasco I contacted several moving companies to find out if dollies are standard equipment or if I should have had to pay extra to rent equipment - they are standard and don't believe a moving company that tells you otherwise. I let Joan know by email that I was going to have to check every box/bin for broken items because of the unusual circumstances.
On the Halifax end, Reasonable Trucking showed up half an hour before they were scheduled to arrive. They wanted me to pay the full amount up front and I refused, stating that I would need to check for damage before I paid. After consulting with Gordon, the owner, who is also the driver, I was told that I could pay 2/3 of the bill and they would bring in my furniture. I said that my furniture only accounted for a small fraction of what was in the truck and that I wanted the amount that I was paying to reflect that. The owner was incredibly rude to me, so I called his wife, Joan. She vacillated back and forth between being rude, fake sweet, and trying to convince me that they were doing me a favour. Eventually she agreed that I would pay half up front and half after I had gone through every box. Again she reiterated that I should feel grateful (forgetting, I suppose, that they are a business, providing me, the customer, with a service, for which I was paying, not a favour). I asked what the company would do if I found many broken items as a result of their inadequate equipment, and she told me that she was certain I wouldn't find anything broken if I had done a good job packing, and that a half dozen broken dishes wasn't a big deal anyways (?!?!?). She refused to say how the company would be accountable in the event of broken items.
After a good amount of my items had been brought inside (with me by the door checking every single box and bin for damages), I was told I would have to finish the job in the truck under the supervision of Gordon the owner (who had stayed in the truck the entire time because he is afraid of dogs). So, while I was on my hands and knees checking my belongings for damage, Gordon stood over me, staring at me, and occasionally commenting on my packing job (which was excellent, every breakable was wrapped, with layers in between). It was incredibly humiliating, and completely unnecessary.
After I paid the balance of my bill, Shane, a relative of Gordon and Joan, was tasked with making sure that everything that had a number was checked off the list. When there were leftover items, he just checked them off, saying that he was sure they were inside as everything had been taken off the truck. I said that I couldn’t sign that everything was received on my end because he checked off a bunch (7-10) items that nobody saw enter the house. When he went out to check with Gordon about what he should do about me refusing to sign that my items were accounted for (when they weren’t) he was told he should just take the papers away and refuse to give me a copy. So I never received a copy of my items, and am left knowing that things weren’t accounted for but I don’t know which items.
*I should mention that Shane was actually one of the bright spots in the move. He was kind and understanding even when his relatives were completely unprofessional.
I would use extreme caution when considering Reasonable Trucking. There are many movers out there who are honest and hardworking. This company isn’t among them.
I used Reasonable Trucking to move my 2-bedroom condo furniture and belongings from Markham, Ontario to Sussex, New Brunswick in early September, 2016 - in spite of one extremely negative review posted on the Internet. I did this because I felt no company could be that bad and still remain in business, and the courteous and knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices quoted and transparency of the information seemed to belie the rating.
I'm glad I did. Pick-up and delivery were as stated, cost was right on quote, service was excellent, and Shane and helper, who did the actual wrapping and moving of my furniture and belongings, seemed to treat them as though they were their own. I didn't even take out extra insurance on my antique furniture (not that I would recommend that to others) and have no regrets. Bed, tables, etc were reassembled upon delivery at no extra cost.
Fantastic service, Careful movers, Great experience.
We are so thankful we used Reasonable Trucking after our recent move from Nova Scotia to Kitchener. We had received quite a range of quotes from other companies, and Reasonable Trucking was kind enough to come to offer an in-person quote and were honest in doing so. I had read horror stories about moving companies under-quoting - this was not the case! Our quote was quite accurate and we came in under budget.
On the day of our move, our items were diligently cared for. Furniture wrapped. Even small details like wrapping the electrical cords were not overlooked.
Despite meeting some unforeseeable and completely unavoidable delays en-route, our goods were still delivered on time and in excellent condition. Communication was excellent while our goods were in-transit and delivery was seamless. The movers clearly are experienced. No detail was overlooked.
We cannot recommend Reasonable Trucking more highly. Honest, reliable, hardworking, with great attention to detail. The movers were professional, office staff (Joan) personable. Personalized service was unparalleled.
Very competitive rates and great customer service.
We would like to thank Reasonable Trucking for helping us complete our move from Ontario to Nova Scotia.
We moved all our contents from a 3 level home in Meaford, Ontario to Meaghers Grant, Nova Scotia. Not a little move by any stretch.
The end cost was very close to quote and everyone should remember that estimated costs are based on weight. If you have large pieces of furniture (in our case dining room and some family heirloom pieces) then you should be prepared for more weight and take this into account Still the estimate/quote was very close.
Shane and his team were very professional and a pleasure to work with on both sides of the move.
Joan and Shane did an amazing job to take away one moving stress with their professional approach, reasonable rates and the care of all our personal belongings.
We would highly recommend Reasonable Trucking for all your moving or transportation needs between Nova Scotia and Ontario.
I would highly recommend Reasonable Trucking Ltd! Not only was the price very competitive, Joan and Shane responded professionally and promptly to any questions I had. Every aspect of the move from start to finish was seamless. All my items were carefully packed, loaded, and unloaded with zero damage being done. For a reasonable extra fee, they even accommodated a last-minute request to drop off some of my items at a second location in the city. I will definitely use this company again for a future move.
We could not have asked for better movers to move us from Halifax NS to Toronto ON. Shane and his team were courteous, careful, and supportive. When one of our building elevators broke the day of the move in our new building, Shane supported me in problem solving with the building manager to avoid possible storage costs. Shane, Jimmy, and Wesley were efficient and delivered all of our belongings to us in great condition.
I used this company to move my things from Halifax to Kingston and let me say they are amazing! They did door to door service. Really good customer service and people with great personalities. They took really good care of our things and packed everything with care and organized everything for us. Please if you are moving you have to try them out. Even our most fragile things like glassware were untouched.
Trust me you will not regret letting them move your things. Shane is great guy and he will take awesome care of your things. Really punctual and a true gentleman.
