Long-distance move from Tomball, TX to Denver, CO

Zero stars - they lost 1/3 of my stuff.

Do NOT use this company! Moved from TX to CO. They charged me more than agreed upon, lost 1/3 of my stuff, would not return my calls, the claims dept is a joke, they won’t pay replacement costs. Broken items, lied to. The driver hires guys from Craigslist to pick up and deliver with them - completely unsafe. I moved a month ago and still haven’t gotten all of my belongings .. still dealing with this company. Horrible customer service - the quality assurance dept doesn’t know anything and can’t even get ahold of dispatch themselves. Don’t be fooled by the slick sales guy. If you want a stress free move, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Long-distance move from California to North Carolina

Total crooks.

This company is also known as All State Moving Service. Turns out these guys lost their license between the time we made contact with them and the time we made the move - a little detail they failed to share with us. When our possessions finally arrived 3 weeks late - on a Sunday, the driver told us they would not take a cashiers check payable to the company that we had prepared prior to their arrival - only cash. They refused to take our stuff off the truck without cash - a direction they received directly from the company during a phone call at our house. And, if we don't find $1700 cash on a Sunday, they will drive away and add $600 cash to the price every time they come back. There are only a couple of reasons that a company would refuse a certified check made payable to them. Add your own inference here. Because the delivery did not arrive on the date promised, we kept calling the company about our belongings. They refused to tell us where they were and finally just ignored our calls. The driver that finally showed up told us that he is a contractor, not employed by the company, because the company is not licensed to transport anything interstate!! They also refused to weigh our possessions and provide us with the information - a DOT requirement. The price they charged us was greatly inflated from the quote despite the fact we reduced the items we were shipping. All the while they refused to tell us where our items were. Turns out they picked them up and just dumped them in a warehouse in Sacramento which had no climate control. That alone cased irreparable warping to many wooden items. If you have anything of value and no desire to waste your money, spring for the seemingly more expensive, certified movers because it will cost you more in the end to use these guys.

Long-distance move from Clovis, CA to Barboursville, VA

Easy to work with.

Began my saga having never used a mover. The salesperson seemed direct with me and quoted an excellent price per cf. I called other movers to verify and ended up sticking with Old Country.
They showed up on time and were very efficient with wrapping up my furniture in moving blankets. Based on other reviews (this company and other companies), I was a little nervous that they would challenge me and claim that I had more cf therefore I need to pay more on the spot, but nothing like that happened.
I had them store it for a month in CA before giving them an address in VA. Later, I got a call from customer service that they wanted to get my stuff on the next truck. Gave them the address and it arrived only 6 days later. The driver was responsive to texts and alerted me with timing. I just had them unload to mini-storage. They came on a Sunday. I was going to try to have it come Monday but said that would be $650 more.
My experience: Good sales guys and be flexible with your schedule, especially with drop off. Discuss any and every need you have up front because once the process is started, they aren't as flexible. They'll treat you right.

Long-distance move from Groton, MA to Ballwin, MO

Worst ever, sooo much damage.

I hired them in good faith, they bumped the price twice, demanded cash only before unloading. When they unloaded I understood why, crushed boxes, damaged and broken furniture, missing mirror for bedroom set, dresser had gouge in top, cherry table gouged, coffee table corner gone, pieces missing. When I asked for driver to note damage he said not his problem, when I insisted he tore up invoice. Would not unload truck until cash was in hand .and my wife signed.. all before unloading. They are crooked and the number to file a claim is disconnected, Anthony did not return numerous phone calls and emails. Hence the one star, it should be zero. Do not believe reviews you see, they can’t possibly accurate.

Long-distance move from San Jose, CA to Billings, MT

Avoid Old Country Van Lines at all costs.

My experience with this "company" was horrendous from beginning to end. This isn't an actual company; it's a phone line to a residential house in New Jersey. The same phone number can be traced to several other moving companies that have gone out of business. They claim to be accredited by the BBB but that is not accurate. The people who load, drive and unload are not employed or vetted by Old Country Van Lines. They are sub contractors who work for cash only. I had to learn all of this information the hard way and hope to save others from this predatory, dishonest and unprofessional individuals.
3/4-Movers scheduled to pick up at my house in CA. They are two hours late. The paperwork they show up with has different units of measure, different charge amounts than the binding estimate and they tried to upcharge me $200 for a "long carry" because they parked across the street. I got out my tape measure and had to prove to them it was less than 65 feet.
3/5, 3/6 and 3/7-Emailed and called the "moving consultant" identified on my estimate about the contract and measurement discrepancies for which I was owed a $256 credit. No return call or email.
3/9-Dispatch person calls and says my items will be delivered 3/12 or 3/13 and that the driver would call me 24 hours in advance with a time window.
3/12-Hear nothing so I call and leave a message with "Dispatch"
3/13-Dispatch calls me back and says driver has been trying to reach me..wrong. She says they will be there late afternoon on 3/13. Driver finally calls me and says they are 6 hours away but will be there around 4 pm. I call him at 4:30 and he tells me he hasn't left North Dakota but that he will arrive the next morning between 8 and 10 am. I have left work early on 3/13 and now will need to miss more work the following morning.
3/14-I sit at my new empty house from 8-11:30 am with no delivery, no phone calls and no emails. I called and left messages and emails with the driver, Old Country, Dispatch and Sales. None of my messages are returned.
Finally at 3 pm a person from Illinois who I have never dealt with calls me and says that the driver is stuck in South Dakota due to either a broken truck or inclement weather but they will be at my house between 5 and 9 pm the next night. The driver told me North Dakota and in looking at the weather map, nothing but sunshine and rainbows in all of the Dakotas.
3/15-Dispatch person calls in the morning to tell me that the drivers attempted delivery but couldn't complete it because I tried to pay in Canadian money..was I being punked? Wrong again. Then she said that the drivers are on their way from Idaho and will reach me later that night. Keep in mind that I am in MT. These folks must be using a map from 1860 or prior to the Louisiana Purchase being made.
I called the driver directly and he actually picked up only because I blocked my phone number. He said they were still in either North or South Dakota and were scheduled to get into my town at midnight. I'm a single mother and my youngest is a toddler so that didn't really work for me.
3/16-Miracle upon miracles they actually arrive at 8:30 in the morning; but I was so relieved that I didn't mind having to miss yet another day of work.
Piece of advice-pay the slightly higher amount to reputable nation wide movers such as North American, Bekins or Mayflower. The few dollars are well worth it to avoid these shysters. I would say they need to be put out of business but I'm sure they will be soon and then will just start a new one with a different name ; but same dirty playbook.

Local move within New York

Move from New York to California.

This move started out okay, they gave me an estimate for a two bedroom apartment and it seemed to be in line with others and after being assured that there wouldn't be any "surprise" charges, that they were a "family-owned business" with all their own drivers and movers who were "all professionals" I signed the contract. The people who showed up to move me were efficient and packed and wrapped everything well. Surprise #1-an additional '$1500 for underestimated cubic footage. Once the truck was loaded, the mover gave me a delivery date range and was off.
Then I flew to California in order to be here for the delivery - Surprise #2- the truck didn't leave New York until the delivery date so it could be another 10-14 days to get there, necessitating the extra expense of a hotel in San Francisco, which is not inexpensive. Finally, the driver calls and says he will be arriving at 10:00 the next morning (which happened to be Easter Sunday) so I canceled a brunch with family to await my delivery. Surprise #3 - the delivery didn't arrive until after 4;00 pm. When it did arrive, Surprise #4 he charged me an additional $800 because they moved it from the big truck to a smaller truck.
Already $2300 over the original estimate, they brought my stuff into the house and tried to charge me for the steps outside as well as the interior stairs which I showed him on the contract had been paid for. As the movers brought in my things, it was clear they were anything but professional movers. They carried my wardrobe boxes in upside down, which of course left all my clothing in a pile at the bottom of the box. Many things were broken or damaged and then after they had randomly put boxes around the house without regard to what rooms they belonged in, he refused to put any furniture together, and when I showed him on the contract that they were obligated to do so, he had no tools and told me I had to furnish him with tools, He refused to do an inventory with me and when I asked his "professional movers" how long they had been with the company, it turned out they were day laborers that he had picked up that morning outsude Home Depot and they didn't even speak English, which explained why they didn't know what rooms the boxes went in . When I told him how dissatisfied I was he told me it's good that I left New York because California needs more [EDIT]. I am a 65-year-old woman who is left trying to move packing boxes from room to room, I am sleeping on a mattress on the floor since even if I could put the bed together, not all the parts got here, so I have to buy a new bed, and then to top it all off, when I called the company to obtain a claim form, 3 calls, and 3 emails, I have still not heard from them. After paying all this money for an absolutely disastrous move and abysmal customer service, I feel I might be entitled to be a little [EDIT].

Nightmare.

Do NOT trust this company! They lie from the very first time you speak to them! I walked through every room in my house, they give you a great quote..soon as they get there give you another..randomly leave high dollar items behind and claim it won’t fit on their truck..say they will come back..then want to charge you a ton. Then tell you when they leave they are on their way to deliver. Never show..when you finally reach them..they won’t a ton of cash! Still waiting on my delivery and it’s been 17 days! This has been a nightmare!! If my things are still not here in 4 more days..I’m getting a lawyer!! Run from this company!!

Official company response

No one lied to you. You were quoted for the volume of furniture you relayed to us. Upon arrival, you had a fair amount of additional volume. The increase of price was explained, and you were given options. We told you we would happily move what was on the original quote at the original price. We have not shown up on delivery because you refused to pay your remaining balance. The police you contacted agreed with you being in the wrong. The DOT inspector you contacted, also agreed. We have given you the options to pay your balance to have your furniture delivered numerous times. Please reach out if you need further clarification.

Amazing Movie Experience.

I recently relocated and was looking for a professional and ethical company to help me with the move. After doing a lot of research, I finally decided on Old Country Van Lines and I can say that I am extremely pleased with the results. I have a lot of sentimental and fragile items that needed to be handled with care. Everyone I interacted with at the company was very nice and professional and helped me with all of my needs. I would highly recommend.

Long-distance move from Lunenburg, MA to Mooresville, NC

HORRIBLE Service.

I paid $1100 extra to reserve an entire van to ensure we weren’t dependent on a full truck to receive our belongings. The pickup ETA was 8-11, at 12:45 received a call that the truck broke down and pickup would be first thing the following morning. 12:45 they finally arrive and filled entire van, charging me an extra $1800. I was actually okay with that because we had more items than estimated andnit ensired morenlikely delivery.
A week after planned delivery we are still waiting for an ETA. Calls roll to voicemail, no one returns calls, original sales rep blocked number. Stay away from this company - TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS and customer service is HORRIBLE!

Horrible service, still have not received my stuff or return calls!

When I decided to move from Texas to Florida the customer service was great! UNTIL. They got my money and my stuff!!
Then no one will return your calls or let you know where your things are! At this point the deadline is Wednesday the 20th! If my things are not in my possession I will call the police and report them for theft! Thank goodness I used my credit cards to purchase my things so I have receipts for all of it!! I finally got thru to someone today by going in the review page and acting like I needed a quote for a move! He assured me he was contacting the owner and would call me right back!! He said give home a few min! We will see how this goes!
But for those who have not received your things maybe you can call him too!
[EDIT]
Hopefully I get some things resolved!

Moving Cross Country.

This is absolutely the worst moving company I have ever experienced. When we contacted the company, we were assured that we would have our furniture delivered within 10 days of pickup, they would be informing us every step of the way where our stuff is and when exactly we would receive it. When the movers arrived, we were immediately told we had much more than our quote and we would owe an additional $3K and asked if we would pay him in cash. What the..? We are now over 4 weeks since our furniture was loaded and we still don't know where our furniture is. All this company could say was "You need to be patient". Patience only lasts so long. It is ridiculous that we will have to wait 6 weeks until our furniture arrives. I would strongly advise anyone that wants to use this company to forget it. Worst customer service ever. And I'm betting they are going to charge us more once our stuff arrives in Virginia. HORRIBLE!!

BEWARE of Moving SCAM with multiple HIDDEN FEES.

BEWARE of this company! Upon pickup they will immediately charge you for use of their tape and packaging even though it was quoted earlier for an out-the-door price. They also charged me almost $1000 extra because they decided on using an 18 wheeler when I told them it was an apartment they are going to but they wanted me to pay for extra service and another truck to bring it in. They also set THEIR OWN DATE AND TIME to deliver REGARDLESS if you are ready to receive or not and will charge you a waiting fee and storage fee if you are not there!! They called me 24 hours before delivery to state a time and day they decided by themselves and I told I wont be available because I am at work but they didn't care and went ahead to deliver!! I never agreed on the date and time but they set it up that way anyways so they can charge extra.

Update on damage claims.

After months of fighting with Old Country Van Lines for thousands of dollars of damage to my possessions, I was finally sent paperwork for a $450 damage claim and I agreed to settle just to get something back. I just received a phone call that they went out of business - so if you have a damage claim and haven't received your money - you won't be getting it now. While I'm angry; at least they are out of business and can no longer rip customers off and damage all their earthly possessions.

Thieves.

The don't own their own trucks, they pay other's to move you. They broke most of our glass things that were packed very carefully. They took off the tape and stole things in our plastic containers like an Iron and Shower Head, I could replace that but what hurt the most, they opened all the Christmas Containers and selectively took the best of my Christmas Decorations (in other words, they stole years and years of memories that could have been passed down). If this is what you don't mind having done to you, then go ahead and hire them, otherwise, be warned.

Lost and Broken Items.

Had my belongings packed by their "expert" team. Not only was my coil matteress folded in half and ruined, but the boxes were filled haphazardly. All the pantry items were spilled into boxes which brought ants into my new house. Dishes and platters were shattered On top of all this the one box with higher value items is somehow lost. On top of all this my belongings took 5 weeks past my requested delivery date. Now I have been waiting 4 months to get a check that barely covers any damages. Avoid like the plague.

Long-distance move from Thomasville, PA to Blue Springs, MO

Interstate Move - Pennsylvania to Missouri.

My delivery took almost 5 weeks, beyond what was promised for the delivery date. When they arrived for the pick up on 7/20/18 the only English speaking person started telling me if I wanted to take "this item" or "that item" (which was on my inventory list) that I needed to pay more money up front (cash). I refused. I ended up giving so many things away to my neighbors. I was heartbroken and angry. On delivery day, the drivers refused to drive back my road 1/4 mile because it had a hill and a sharp turn - which I explained to the sales manager in the very beginning and was told don't worry, our drivers are "professional". These contracted movers showed up with a semi-trailer that sat so low to the ground, I was shocked they even made it to Missouri. I regret not taking a picture of the trailer. The drivers then asked for an additional $650 in cash to transfer my possessions from their truck to another truck that THEY would call for. I refused. The only way to get all my possessions away from them was to go rent a Budget-Rental Truck and have them transfer my stuff to the rental truck. My neighbor had to drive the rental truck to my house. I paid for this moving company to deliver to my house and bring my possessions INTO MY HOME. This did NOT HAPPEN. All my furniture was damaged/broken/scratched or had gouges. All my plastic bins/boxes were either busted open and damaged and some had water damage. I have so many damaged items. I'm missing items. My wash machine was damaged and wouldn't work. No one will call you back. Now the damaged claims unit is "too busy to talk to me right now". DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I wish I had done more investigation. Yes, the 1 star ratings are TRUE. Fight this company and don't give up as they want you to GIVE UP. I've also reported them to the BBB and am also reporting them to an investigator. I have so many pictures of damaged items, I am so angry. They truly are scammers and not a PROFESSIONAL MOVING COMPANY.

Old Country Van Lines.

STAY AWAY! Theives and dishonest! Moved in May was quoted $3k! When all my stuff was loaded and gone they handed me a bill for $9k!! Then went back on their word with payment arrangements and threatened to keep my furniture, hung up on me ( sales manager)..then finally my stuff delivered! 14 pieces damaged! Scratched, chips dents, mattress folded in half, adjustable base sliced and motor broken! Gets worse - 21 missing boxes that padded my costs for cubes! And the extra care wrapping that they simply just added to my bill totaled another $700! But was WORTHLESS because they ruined all my furniture..after several emails and photos galore with no response and Charlie finally saying the owner offer me $500!! I said no less than $3k refunded to me- unacceptable! Now it’s October and still not settled!
I WANT MY MONEY YOU CROOKED COMPANY!! You ruined my antiques, my new furniture, my bed and adj base! Total value of bed and base alone is $6k!! To replace / repair would cost over $9k! This company is rude, nasty, hostile, the male employees ( sales manager and logistics mgr) treat females beyond disrespectfully and borderline abusively! My dad wants me to sue!! The owners need to know what kind of excrement works for them and that they are deliberately padding the manifests to charge you more - then holding your furniture hostage until you pay!
Worst experience ever & it’s still not resolved!! 1week goes by and no response - then 2 weeks, then phone tag, then zero response! Unprofessional, dishonest and terrible treatment of you and your possessions! (But, at lest the lead mover on the delivery - clued me in on the missing boxes and the overcharge and that I was cheated! He was disgusted with the amount I was charged and said I should get 1/2 of my money back on overcharges! ) maybe I should get him to testify if this ends up in court!

I would pick NO star if I could USER BEWARE.

If you get an answer to a moving company request and you read the name Old Country Van Lines, pass it by or suffer. They are unprofessional, do not return phone calls, don't even have moving vans. They rent Enterprise Rental Trucks. They don't have employees in your area. They're not on time. The broke some of my prescious belongings, then they screwed me out of over $600. I was moving to another state and had to stage and live in my house, but had not signed the house buying papers yet. They called me before that and left a message that they already had moved my belongings out of state. They will not tell you where they store your belongings. They want cash or USPS money order for delivery. Will not take original CC #. USPS doesn't make money orders in those large amounts.

These guys are under investigation by the FBI and DOT.

When I see that these guys have 3 stars, it makes me laugh. Anyone who gave them more than one star has clearly been paid to review them. These guys lost their interstate transit license in between the time we hired them and the time they picked up our stuff - a detail they failed to mention to us. Then, unbeknownst to us, they hired a bunch of contract truckers, some of whom spoke only Russian and had been in the country only 6 weeks, who lost things, broke about 30% of our furniture - huge dents in wood, table legs broken off, box damaged in a way that could only have been accomplished by throwing them off the truck, etc. - and when the truck showed up ONE MONTH LATE, the truckers turned out to be thugs who would only take cash, not the cashiers check we to the company that we had the bank prepare. They then threatened to leave with our stuff and come back the next day at an additional charge of $600 cash. When we filed a claim with the company, they only wanted to give us $250 when the damage and late delivery had cost us about $4,000. They also wanted us to sign a release preventing us from reviewing them poorly on sites such as this. Well, if we can prevent this happening to anyone else, its worth passing on their paltry $250. So, they picked up our furniture in California. Instead of driving it to North Carolina they threw - and I do mean threw - it into a non-climate controlled warehouse in California where it sat in about 120 degrees for over a month. No one at the company could (or would) tell us where our stuff was or when to expect it. When they finally showed up, they tried to give us things that weren't ours in exchange for our things that we're missing. The company, according to the records, also goes by the name of All State Movers. There are investigations into this company pending by the DOT and FBI. So, my recommendation is STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS.

We used this company to move from California 3 yrs ago. We had agreed they would pick up our stuff load it and deliver it. Not too hard to understand. They came loaded up the truck took it to a storage place and one guy showed up the next day to finish. They hired a guy from Craigslist to help. Delivered our furniture after paying 2 thousand dollars more of hostage money and broke most of the furniture and if it wasn’t broken it was damaged. 20 thousand dollars worth. Please do not use this company if you value your things. They destroy your things without thinking twice about. They should be out of business and in jail.
