I was moving from NYC to LA and these people assured me an easy move. The minute they get to LA it’s two guys that came to deliver. One named James and the other was unknown. The unknown broke into the truck, stole James’s money and personal items. Turns out James hired him off of craigslist when North Vans specifically said they don’t hire people outside of the company. When i called Marion thorpe to get a partial refund he BLOCKED ME. As well as the company. I hope to sue the hell out of theae people one day. I’m even going to therapy for the anxiety of that incident

I hired this company after getting about 8 quotes from other movers. I spoke with Matthew in the beginning and he went over everything in full detail. Although his price wasn't the lowest by any means. He was the most strait forward in how the industry worked so I trusted that. I saw a few negative reviews, but realizing nobody is perfect I trusted this company moving my 3 bedroom home from New Brunswick,NJ to Miami,FL . On pickup everything went smooth the guys we're great even though it was truly a lot of stuff we had. Delivery took about 5 days and upon arrival they put all my furniture where it belonged. Put everything back together and very minimal damage. I truly couldn't have asked for a better move and total cost was under my budget so that made me even happier. I would refer this company to all my friends and family.

My family used North Van Lines for a move from NY to NC with fulling packing service. We were scheduled to be packed up on June 15th between 6am-8am and had to call the company ourselves after no one showed up only to find out that they were coming the following morning instead, which they stated they "we going to call us." I provided a very accurate inventory of all of my furniture and large items in the original estimate and even stated that my 2 bedroom apartment should be considered more as a 3 bedroom because we had a room put in storage. We had to talk to the owner of the company at pickup when we were informed that our 4,400 estimate was now 10,750 and it was only through our complaining that we got it reduced to 9,375, which was still 150% over the expected amount. I paid for professional packing service and when goods arrived I discovered how poorly all the boxes were packed which I believe resulted in the majority of the damage. Although we did witness the movers actually drop a large China box from about 10 feet high off the truck because it was the first box they were trying to pull out of the middle. There were vintage China plates stacked 5-6 high with 1 sheet of packing paper around them!! The China was also loaded starting at the bottom of the box with no padding on the bottom. Our large diploma frames that cost between $160-$200 a piece were shoved in the side of wardrobe boxes with no paper or anything around them. They were all scratched up. We found a box full of smaller frames all shoved in together with a few random T-shirts thrown in for padding, but all the edges were damaged. We had some empty large plastic storage containers that we got for packing and didn’t end up using, and they were loaded empty on truck (we were charged by cubic feet of truck space not by the pound the way we were supposed to be billed). There was even an empty plastic egg crate that was full of balled up moving paper taped together with nothing inside it. Original painted artwork canvasses were randomly shoved in boxes with other things with no paper wrapping around them. My husband provided the original box and Styrofoam packaging for his 46” TV and it arrived upside down inside the box with the foam thrown on top. Many items were not put in boxes at all, they were simply just taped together which caused damage to all of them. Terrible experience with the company. We feel it is a complete scam. .

Out of all the companies I called for a state to state move estimate North Van Lines offered the best one. The staff was kind and answered all my question curtiously no matter how many times I called. Matthew was very kind and helpful and took into consideration how stressful moving is. I appreciate the kindness an consideration that I was show. To Matthew an staff thank u for everything. I would recommend North Van Lines to anyone if they needed moving or other services.

Just had my move today from NYC to ATl .My original charged was suppose to be $1200 plus $302 deposit based on 343 cubic space. Until the driver charged me for an extra 257 cubic .Because I had a furniture with glass ,He claimed that it would take more spaced.He charged me for 600 cubic space instead of 343. And charged $225 dollars for each stair case which were only 2 because the first was free.Then another $27.45 for a small boxes extra. Which brought my total to $3,445 plus I gave them $200 gratuity. Worst company ever make sure you double checked be agree.

I would give it a zero star if I could. Deceitful business practices! My estimate for a long distance move was grossly under estimated so I got suckered in and after they loaded the truck and they had me, the price almost doubled. I had no choice but to proceed because I had to vacate the premise that day and now I have to sue. I kid you not, literally caught with my pants down. And when my stuff got to Florida, every box was damaged and many damaged items. Might have been done on purpose. Consumer Beware.

In April 2013 I contacted several movers. North Van Lines had the best rate, so I chose them. I submitted a precise list of items and their exact sizes to avoid any surprises or extra charges. But the day of the move the driver handed me a bill that was $479.16 higher than the original quote! When I complained to my North Van Lines sales rep I was told they calculate cubic feet based on length markers inside the truck. This means that empty space above the items is included. But they had previously assured me that empty space in the truck is not charged. Of course, measuring cubic feet based on length and width alone is mathematically impossible. I was prepared for the final price to be 5 or possibly 10 percent higher than the quote due to various factors. But this was almost 30 percent higher. The North Van Lines office manager told me that my sales rep is a long-time employee, so there’s no excuse for such a large miscalculation. I believe they intentionally low-balled the price to get the job, then they held the items hostage until I paid in full. This promise from the home page of their web site belies my actual experience:"We guarantee our pricing, the rate will NEVER increase. Our method eliminates the questionable pricing practices that many moving companies impose on customers, while at the same time providing quality service at competitive prices.".

I really appreciate their awesome effort the way Customer Rep MIKE explained in detail and clarifying all my queries during my first call with him relates to my movement and expenses.

The company picked up the packages on schedule from Newark, Delaware and delivered the packages ahead of schedule in Charlotte, NC.

I was amazed the way they packed my furniture , TV with their material.

Also the person who delivered the package is highly trained experts and he make sure all the package are received and there was no damage.

I would like to thank and appreciate all the resources with North Van Lines Inc, Hackensack, NJ 07601 who worked on this movement.

The real reviews for North Van Lines are on Yelp. Do not use. Matthew completely lied about delivery date when I booked it, they tell you the date you want to hear with absolutely no intentions of meeting this deadline. Acts like your best friend yet wouldn't even answer my emails when I had follow up questions. Meme, head woman in charge is nasty, condescending and won't let you get a word in. I called to check in on my delivery date and got screamed at and nasty emails/voicemails from her. Decent human beings wouldn't lie about delivery dates, moving is stressful and we need an idea of when our stuff is going to arrive. My items were "Next on the truck" for two weeks. Beware, I made the mistake of reading these fake Google reviews that they clearly submit themselves (read the names of the people who wrote their reviews - fake). You have to do more research and look at Yelp. I never even write reviews but I feel so passionately about spreading the word.

Update: posted this original review but am now adding that the "Coo" meme sent me an email minutes after I posted this. If you ask me she has this email saved and ready to send to people who post bad reviews. She's threatening to sue me for posting an honest review.

Also, I did research. Google merit van lines reviews. Same names of the people I dealt with and they have awful reviews. Looks to me like they had tanked their reputation with that company name so they switched to north van lines to continue bad business practices.

I have actually already booked my next move with them because my mother is also relocating close to me. I hired them to move me from philly to winter park FL. I am in FL and my pick up was in Storage in PA. They did such a great job and I didn't feel cheated. I did have a few items that I forgot to mention to them. they called me to tell me about the additional before doing anything. I felt like I had control and I'm THE BOSS and it felt good. I recommend them based on my great experience.

Never ever use this company. They will give you a low estimate and then almost double your cost after they have all of your stuff on a truck. They will lie to you every chance they get just to get you to sign the papers. They picked up our stuff on 5/25/15. In the process they dropped our refrigerator down the last three steps of our porch and broke the bottom one. At this time they looked around to see if anyone saw and three of us did. Instead of unwrapping it to look for damage they just kept loading. They told us we would NEVER fit all of our stuff on a 26' truck. They used a 26' truck to load our stuff. They left stuff behind that was supposed to be pack and left garbage throughout my house. After this bad experience a review was posted and they asked for it to be removed because it was bad publicity for them. They tried to hold our stuff until it was taken down. They stalled as long as they could. Now I plan to make it a quest of mine to make everyone aware of how bad this company is and what they will do to you. Our estimate was for $8897 and after they truck was loaded they told me my total was $14678. I went into shock. As soon as they had their payment they ran out as fast as they could. There are many more things that I could say about this company but I'm trying to keep this legal.

Do not use these people. especially Tomas. These people are just a gang of thugs. I had the contract with them based on item numbers. They came and refused to take anything even when no item was added saying that it does not match the cubic feet they have. First, I made the contract based on item numbers not cubic feet. Second, Tomas who made the calculation of cubic feet not me. The sales manager calls me to yell at me telling me to pay extra $1000 to get my stuff delivered otherwise they will not. Trying to take advantage of my time of need. I refused of course. I would sue them if I had time   Dont eve use them.

My family had one of the worst experiences of our lives yesterday. The mover refused to unload our belongings unless we paid him $200 cash above the amount on the contract. He was rude and intimidating.

At the time, I was happy to pay $200 so we could have our things, but I now realize that this was basically extortion.

The mover also compelled us to get a second storage unit because he did not feel like arranging things to fit in the amply sized unit we had rented.

Finally, he was careless with our boxes damaging items and left boxes and packing material behind for us to clean up.

I have not been able to reach anyone at corporate to try to address the situation.

None of this is an exaggeration.

I worked with Cheryl on coordinating a long-distance move across country. She worked tirelessly to get me the best deal she could and researched all avenues for finding me discounts that applied to my situation. During the moving process, when I was unable to talk because I was busy with other work, Cheryl was diligent and respectful about finding a time to talk that worked for me and followed up just as promised. I highly recommend their services to anyone looking to move long-distance or otherwise. Having a knowledgeable, professional contact that responded to my personal situation and paid attention to my moving needs and concerns really made a difference to me!

Nitureas the worst experience EVER !!

I could have rented a dumpster and just trashed all my own stuff.

They literally ROLLED our furniture and boxes across the lawn and into the house !

EVERYTHING was broken.

Our Mom had just passed and I wanted to move my Sister her andmy Mom's belongings to Texas.

I'm 68, my Sister 63 and we had to move our own furniture and boxes into the house ourselves to keep the "movers" from ROLLING our belongings.

No money can replace the damage they did.

All my Sisters belongings and our Mothers memories SMASHED !

Boxes of broken dishes and memories, broken furnature is what we got for $7600 !

They ROLLED, end over end a desk, hutch, island, dressers and all the boxes.

My Sister hasn't stopped crying. Every memory of our Mother destroyed !! All her belongings destroyed and for this we had to pay $ 7600.

They tell you everythings included on the sales call and then nickle and dime you, completely against their word. These people tried charging me a covid19 cleaning fee, yet their drivers show up with no masks, getting right up on me, and touching stuff in my house with no regard. Then they scratched my floors and claimed it was my responsibility to tell them to use caution. Didn’t know I gave them license to damage my floors. One and done for me. Good luck to whomever chooses to use these slimeballs.
