Long-distance move from Benicia, CA to Montgomery, TX

Terrible experience

Nation wide along with Next moving and storage made this the worst experience I have ever had, As a former Military person I have moved many times, If I had not gone through this myself I would not believe it. Spent hours on the phone with Nation Wide going over every item, However when the driver showed up they asked for another 12K or they would not move us, Saying Nation wide considered the dimentions of the item, not the boxes they Use, Having no other choice I paid it. 2/3 of items lost enroute. After complaing they found some of our items. I filed a complaint for lost items, and over a thousand dollars of damage, Including destroring a TV' that was put in a "special box" they made me pay for, They offered me a settlement of 109$. I recommend looking elsewhere.

Zach, Brock, Kaden

From the first initial phone call to the last. Nationwide Moving is one of the best companies I have came across that will go above and beyond to satisfy their customers. I look forward to using this service again in the future. I will definitely recommend this company to lots of friends and family. All around great customer service, rates, and excellent staff. I want to thank Zach, Brock, and Kaden for taking care of all my needs and wants.

AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT

So, my experience with Nationwide has been an up and down experience but there were two people who helped me the most. The first was Zach, who I booked my truck with. He was there for me in the beginning and then he connected me with Kyla. She was fabulous. She was with me every step of my stressful move. Calling me after hours to make sure I knew she had my back and was with me. She is a fabulous person to work with. She truly cares about you more than is expected of her. She's the 5 star person at Nationwide.

Long-distance move from Springfield, OR to Berea, KY

Would give zero starts if that was an option

If I could give zero stars, I would. Please do not even consider this moving company. They are an absolute nightmare to deal with. It is a bait and switch situation. One person signs you up for the move, promising ease and convenience. Then they don't allow you to communicate with anyone until a "quality assurance call", which is supposed to be 3-5 days before the move. It doesn't actually happen until the day before, and then they tell you all of the hidden charges the first person didn't tell you about - when it is too late to change your plan. THEN they contract the actual company who will move your things. Some random people show up from a different company, put your things in a truck and THEN STORE THEM IN A WAREHOUSE for weeks! They wait until they feel like it to actually move your things to the new location - and if you call them they take no accountability at all. We moved two weeks ago and our things are still sitting in a warehouse in Seattle - nowhere near where I moved from or where I moved to! AVOID THEM.

Long-distance move from Lyons Falls, NY to Columbus, GA

Worst experience

Placed order on 5/25/23 after Nathan confirmed truck could do the pick up on 5/26/23 between 8 and noon. Truck didn't show. The truck came to move my elderly parents at 11:30 at night on 5/26 and left at 3:30am 5/27. This is not acceptable. They didn't have enough supplies and used $150 of my boxes that I had purchased. The driver said they would let me know the delivery date the next day. I never received any call. I called the company everyday asking for status and relayed what happened. Taylor said that we would get a discount and she would call me back. I haven't received any call back from Taylor. I got a call on a Friday 6/2/23 from the driver that it would be delivered on Saturday 6/3/23. They didn't come or call until Sunday. The truck didn't fit through the driveway so they charged an additional $75. They never asked about the width of the driveway or say anything about additional charges. We received 15 boxes, which was the correct count. However one of the boxes isn't ours.

Long-distance move from Ontario, CA to Houston, TX

Horrible experience

The service that I was initially sold is NOT the service that I received. When booking, I asked when my things would need to be picked up in order to arrive in TX on or around June 5. While there were no guarantees made, I was advised that in order for my things to arrive around my earliest available delivery date (June 5), they would need to be picked up 9-10 days earlier (May 26). On that initial call, I was also told that I would be able to track the truck and see where my things were for added security. I felt comfortable with that and went ahead and booked. The week of my move, I was scheduled to have a final inventory review call. When the call finally happened, I wanted to verify that I would be able to track the truck so that I could inquire about tracking information. I was told that they do not offer tracking and suggested that I place an air tag with my belongings so I could track them myself. The agent was apologetic and said that my initial sales call (which was recorded) would be reviewed and if I was told incorrect information about tracking, then I would receive some sort of monetary compensation. I purchased an air tag to place with my belongings, but I never received a call back about the misinformation. On the inventory call, I was also told that the driver would show me how much space my things are taking up on the truck to verify the amount that I would need to pay upon pickup. That did not happen and the driver told me that he couldn’t show me because my things were going to a warehouse where they would be transferred to a larger truck for the delivery.

When I got to Houston on June 5, I could see that the truck was still sitting in a warehouse in Los Angeles. When I called Nationwide to inquire about when my things would arrive, they advised me to contact the trucking company that they contracted with. The trucking company informed me that they don’t start making arrangements for the delivery until the first available delivery date. At that point, they didn’t even have a driver scheduled and told me that I could expect my things to arrive by the following week. I called Nationwide back and told them the discrepancy from my first call. It was my initial understanding that I would receive my belongings within 5-14 business days from pickup. The customer service agent was unable to help, so I requested to speak to a manager but none were available. When I finally spoke to a manager the next day, I was told that I would receive my belongings within 5-14 business days from my first available delivery date, not from pickup. The manager, Taylor, gaslit me to make it seem like I simply misunderstood even though I specifically asked when to schedule pickup in order to receive my belongings around a certain time. Again, I was told that the initial recorded call would be reviewed and she would call me back. At this point, I understood that there was nothing I could do to make my things come quicker, I was just upset that I had been misled and was hoping for some sort of accountability or accommodation. I even told her about the tracking situation hoping that she would be able to address it as well. Taylor never called me back, but I received an email from the trucking company that my things would arrive by the weekend. I called again the next day and was told that Taylor was busy, but she reviewed the call and I was never promised a specific delivery date. I wasn’t able to listen to the call myself or even review a transcript, so I have no way of knowing if she even really listened to it to see if I was misled.

When the truck finally arrived, I was told that since it was on an 18 wheeler it couldn’t fit into my apartment complex, so I would need to pay an additional $650 shuttle fee for them to transfer everything into a smaller truck. I expected some hidden fees, but this was absolutely ridiculous. The driver even said “the moving company should have told you” so I wouldn’t be blindsided. I know that the company can’t make any guarantees, and I realize now that I didn’t do enough research ahead of time. I felt completely misled, deceived, and gaslit throughout the process of dealing with Nationwide.

Overall, I felt completely disrespected and disregarded by Nationwide. I have yet to receive a call back from anyone at the company in regards to my concerns and there were no attempts at addressing them.

Long-distance move from Houston, TX to Toledo, OH

Dishonest Business Practices

I had just retired last June and called to get an estimate to move from Texas to Ohio. I let them know upfront that I had not reached a final decision. I was told that I would need to actually hire them and pay the deposit to find out what the cost would be. If I decided to stay in Texas, I wouldn’t have a problem getting a refund, since they only service moves changing states. I paid the $840 deposit, trusting what Alan said. Three days later, I decided to cancel the service and get a refund since I was leaning towards remaining in Texas. I called and then sent an email to their support team as directed. Instead of giving me my money back, I was sent an email to contact them about their “Floating Reservation Program”. They then put my account on hold. After researching all options in Ohio and a few other states, a door opened for me to move to a different city in Texas. I called to cancel their service a second time and get a refund. I sent another email to the support team. They said they received my email and would get back with me. I waited a week and heard nothing. I sent another email. No response. I called and waited several minutes and finally gave up. I gave this company $840 for them to do nothing. I am retired and on a limited income and feel like I have been totally taken advantage of. I feel completely foolish for giving this company my trust and time.

Worst experience

Not only does this company farm out to others moving carrier (Next Stop Moving also an F rating), their employee Taylor Moore conveniently states we never phoned to complain. Our cell phone records don’t lie. She does! Complete extortion play by Next Stop movers to gain more $ that unless we Zelle to his personal account-they would not lift a finger. So they argued with us & sat in our driveway for 3 hours. I Zelle the $-they now claim was a tip?! So BEWARE and go elsewhere! If Nationwide management is reading this-Taylor Moore needs to be reprimanded for lying to customer. They say all calls are recorded-well my cell records dispute her lie.

Long-distance move from Macon, MO to Juneau, AK

ABSOLUTE FRAUD!!!

Missouri to Alaska relocation for work 6/29/23. The day of the move the price more than doubled from what they ‘helped’ us estimate what the move would cost. They subcontracted the move, and we weren’t aware of that company until 2 men who barely spoke English showed up in aUHaul truck. They rushed me into signing a contract and paying. We’ve now been notified a stolen Penske rental truck was impounded by US Customs with our belongings in Montana. No one at either company or the Penske office will speak with us. We have no belongings and have paid them almost $12,000. If I could have given a 0 star rating, I would. Please DO NOT USE NATIONWIDE MOVING AND STORAGE!!!

Hit and miss communication. Also Kyla sucks

Absolutely worst decision to hire this company for my move. Wish I read the reviews before hiring. They were extremely on top of everything up until the days leading up to my pick up date. After the movers came they expressed payment policies that were not in explained prior. They then explained the delivery process to me and told me dates they suggest I put for the delivery dates. I spoke to multiple people at nation wide to get updates on our delivery dates, and I would get the run around every phone call. I finally spoke to someone without was helpful and gave us an update in a timely manner. However the contracted movers haven’t been communicating well. I called back and spoke to Klya. Whatever you do DO NOT work with Kyla. She was extremely unprofessional, she spread misinformation, was argumentative, and honestly was the worst person I’ve had to interact with in this whole company. Nationwide has a FEW good employees but from my experience, they are not worth the headache they serve. Hiring movers should make the moving process easier but renting a crusty dusty uhaul to drive cross country would have been better than this nightmare.

Long-distance move from Gilbert, AZ to Marion, IA

Moving from Arizona to Iowa...thank God for air tags.

I was looking to move items from the sale of our Arizona home to our home in Iowa. I was trying to save money. I thought I had found just what I wanted when I talked to Nationwide. Nationwide asked about what items I would be having moved. I sent photos of all the items and a complete list of everything that was to be moved. Nationwide assessed what the cost would be and I signed a contract that would guarantee the price with no "up charges".

I was unaware that Nationwide was only a "Broker" and hired other companies to actually do the move when I contacted them. Nationwide did explain this to me, but since I hadn't moved cross country before, I didn't realize the mistake I was making.

The first moving company showed up on the designated moving day. A member of the crew walked around checking the items to be moved and taking photos. He soon informed me that he would need to charge me a significant amount over what I had contracted (remember the "no up charges" in the contract). To Nationwide's credit, when I contacted their customer service, I was told to tell the moving company "No" and they would find another company to complete the move.

The second company, named Figueroa, arrived a couple of weeks later. The man who appeared to be in charge of the crew and two other fellows loaded our belongings in their truck. I asked the driver approximately how long it would be before our belongings would arrive at our home in Iowa...he said, "7 to 10 days".

Not that I didn't trust the movers, but I placed air tags in several of our totes when I packed so I could see how close to delivery we were. I kept the "7 to 10 days" schedule In my mind. After a few days, I checked the location of the air tags...they were in Mesa, Arizona approximately 5 miles from the home where they were picked up.

Now you may be asking yourself, "What does this have to do with Nationwide?" Let me tell you...since our belongings were supposedly going to be delivered in "7 to 10 days", and they were still in Mesa, I called Nationwide. Nationwide told me that "That's completely normal. Your belongings are in a HUB and when one or two other jobs are combined with it, the moving company (Figueroa) would bring all of the items together to their destinations." I believed this assertion and patiently waited to see progress of our possessions from Arizona to Iowa.

After a week, I again checked the location of my air tags...they were in Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA. Again, I called Nationwide and wondered why our belongings were significantly farther from Iowa than when they were picked up. Nationwide told me that our possessions were taken to a LARGER HUB.

I patiently waited another few weeks and then I called Nationwide again. I was told that Figueroa was having difficulties finding a driver to bring our belongings to Iowa. In the meantime, I had the phone number from the driver Figueroa had employed for the move. He told me that Figueroa wouldn't pay him, so he left our possessions in Los Angeles (I knew where the items were...air tags). He placed our belongings in a storage unit...a Public Storage facility.

While Nationwide was trying to solve the problem with Figueroa, I had to pay $250 for three months for our possessions to be stored in Los Angeles. I didn't want to see them on "Storage Wars". Figueroa soon was out of the picture because they went out of business...go figure.

Nationwide sent a letter to me and approximately 30 other people that were in the same situation saying, "that since they didn't know where our belongings were, that we would have to find someone on our own to pick up and deliver our possessions." I quickly informed Nationwide that I knew exactly where our possessions were, and I expected them to complete our contract.

Nationwide said they would attempt to find another mover to pick up and deliver our possessions. Nationwide then informed me that they could not find anyone that would perform the move and they reimbursed me 1/3 of the contracted amount. The reason it was 1/3 of the contract is...When you sign the contract you pay 1/3 of the cost to Nationwide. You pay 1/3 of the cost to the mover at pick up and 1/3 of the cost to the mover at delivery. So I had only paid 1/3 of the money to Nationwide and 1/3 to Figueroa. I got nothing from Figueroa.

I ended up hiring a reputable moving company from our hometown in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Two Men and a Truck, and they drove to Los Angeles, picked up our belongings, and delivered them within a week. It was very expensive, but worth every penny to get our possessions where they belonged.

Bottom line:

DO NOT USE NATIONWIDE...DO NOT USE A BROKER, PERIOD.

PAY THE MONEY TO HAVE A REPUTABLE MOVING COMPANY MOVE YOUR POSSESSIONS.

THE BROKER REALLY DOESN'T KNOW THE MOVERS THEY ARE USING! NATIONWIDE DIDN'T.

ALWAYS USE AIR TAGS SO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR BELONGINGS ARE! IF I HADN'T USED THE AIR TAGS, I WOULD NEVER HAVE GOTTEN OUR POSSESSIONS BACK!

Long-distance move from Huntington Beach, CA to Colorado Springs, CO

Interstate move from CA to CO

The initial phone call went great, I told him about how many boxes and things i needed to move. I was giving an amount of approx. 286 cubic feet of space on the truck...what that means, no idea. I was told that what i described would fit perfectly and there would be room for a bit more. Turns out i had to leave stuff behind, only got 256 square feet, and it cost $500 more than the price quoted. They said i had 94 square feet more than allowed..how they figured it out, no idea. I will say the customer service from them was excellent, but the service of what i got was horrible. A tip to the company....please explain what 256 square feet means in a truck (its only one layer of stuff in the back of the truck...not very much for the price you pay really). And they are a broker....things will always go wrong when they say one thing, the the people who move say another thing. I can only hope that it will be delivered on the day they put down for me to deliver it. All in all a VERY disappointing experience.
