Everything went great - showed up on time, dropped off on time, everything as promised. Aaron Bacon was my rep and handled everything perfectly. Definitely recommend them.
Thank you for the kind review. At National Van Lines, we take what we do very seriously and work very hard to ensure the expectations of our valued customers are met or exceeded. We're glad to see that all went well with your move. Best of luck in your new home.
We moved from FL to VA Dec 15th. We had several months to prepare, this was our first ever move more then 10 miles from where we grew up. Aaron Bacon was our sales Rep and was absolutely top notch, he answered the tons of questions we had all hours of the day and night.
A few days prior to moving day Sal our driver contacted us. He walked us through the day of process and gave us his cell so we could call him with any questions. Once he got on site on time as he told us things went better then expected. Sal managed both crews like well oiled machines. He arrived right on time in VA and the unloading went great as well. Both move teams were great. Sal stay engaged with us the entire time making sure we were happy with everything going on. As well as calling us on the days In transit to make sure our travels we're going well. And keeping us posted on his location. Mike running the loading team in FL was excellent, as Well as Curtis's team in VA. They treated our stuff like it was theirs.
Thanks to Sal, Aaron & National van lines for making a nerve wracking life event into a stress free event for my family.
We had a terrible experience with a very well-known, large moving company. We switched our move over to National, and they were absolutely amazing. From the booking agent, to the movers that came to our home and delivered our stuff across country. Would absolutely recommend them!
Thank you for the great review, Heather. As a nearly 90yr old moving company, it is our desire to have each of our valued customers feel like family moved them. So glad to hear everything went well. Best of luck in your new place.
After a sudden life change, I found myself needing to move from Georgia to central Texas within a week to start a new job. Obviously, the move was way too sudden to attempt to try and move myself (I drive a Prius, so not a lot could go with me and Uhaul said it'd take several days to order a hitch for my car and then a day to install it, and I just didn't have that amount of time). I thought about having a family member drive or fly down to drive a uhaul truck with my stuff, but after figuring in his costs for transportation and a hotel (the drive would've been 14 hours depending on traffic), it just didn't seem worth it. I read several reviews online, and many were bad (as most reviews for anything are usually critical), and I was a little hesitant. But after National Van Lines quoted me a price that was relatively close (app. $600 more) to what it'd take to move myself, those several hundred dollars seemed worth it. Since it's a national company, the salesperson coordinates with local moving companies to arrange your move. While this may result in requiring a little flexibility (my movers came a couple of days earlier than what the salesperson had originally thought they'd be able to arrive), I felt it was much better for them to be early rather than late. Also, they arrived within the time frame quoted on the contract. I'm just a procrastinator so I didn't prepare for them to be able to come for the first day quoted, even though I had known it to be a slim possibility. The arrival day to the final destination was on time and the movers were able to unload my stuff rather quickly. The guys put large furniture and boxes in the locations I requested and worked efficiently. They unloaded app. 4,700 lbs. in a little under two hours! Unloading it myself would've taken much longer. Since any national moving company will require coordinating among different companies (especially due to moving across several states), I was impressed that my stuff made it to the end location on exactly the day I was quoted. Additionally, even though I had almost twice as much stuff as what my initial estimate was (through no fault of the company, I just underestimated the amount of boxes I would have), I was pleasantly surprised with the final bill. In fact, another popular national moving company had quoted me $2000 more than National Van Lines, so I can only imagine how outrageous the final bill for that company would've been! Overall, I am VERY pleased with my experience with National Van Lines. They made my move so much easier than what it would have been had I tried to move myself or tried to coordinate with several loading/unloading companies in two different states on my own. Additionally, I called them on very short notice, yet they were able to pick up my stuff within the week and have my belongings to me just a few days after I moved to Texas! .
I have moved three different times with National Van Lines. Each move was well coordinated with the help of Aaron Bacon. The movers were friendly, professional, and did a great job each time. I would recommend their services to a friend. The driver remained in contact with me to provide delivery updates. With moving, it is difficult to pin down an exact date for delivery. Therefore, it is nice to receive updates to schedule accordingly. .
From start to finish, everything went well. If we ever move long distance again, would use. Would also refer to others who may be moving. Communication is good, questions all answered quickly and efficiently. Workers were friendly and diligent. Movers were also flexible in working with myself and spouse in placing the furniture. Payment method very easy and convenient.

Moved from Montana to Texas. Have used Allied & Mayflower before with no problem, but in Kalispell, MT, your choices are very limited so went with National. The agent told us many things that turned out to be untrue, such as "these shelves will ride fine like they are" & even if the driver can't get his truck in your driveway, there won't be a shuttle charge at destination." Driver was obnoxious, combative, argumentative with ZERO people skills. He took apart everything, little thing, some things he disassembled took up more space than if left assembled. Now I have piles of stuff I am supposed to put together with missing parts & screws. Was charged $1,000.00 shuttle charge (a UHaul) at origin, then driver said he "might run over some grass" if he brought his truck in to destination, so was charged ANOTHER $1,000.00 shuttle charge at destination, which Allied does not do. In Montana, he took boxes of canned food he wasn't supposed to take, it is now dented & ruined. A brand new desk arrived with 2 broken feet, 2 gouges on the front & a 4 inch strip of granite broken off the top! We were so ready for him to be out of our home, seeing all our stuff come in damaged. He bullied me into signing all the forms, saying he left a couple of $40.00 blankets wrapped around my washer & dryer, in exchange for not telling National he broke an antique butter churn, damaged a table & dented, scratched, gouged every thing he took. got 2 grease spots on new carpet, said "those were there" when I pointed them out. If we tried to give him any direction or suggestions, he got loud, talked over us & did exactly as HE wanted. Neither the rude agent or the rude driver have any business dealing with the public. If you want to spend close to $10,000.00 for someone to destroy your things, by all means, hire National Van Lines, or pay me & I'll come break it for you! Nightmare from start to finish. Things they put in storage are still wrapped, so I know when I see my new washer & dryer & curio cabinet in a few months, they will be damaged as well.
We downsized and relocated from Roswell, Georgia to Jenison, Michigan in August 2015. We selected National Van Lines as our mover. National is an excellent company and it's because of employees, such as Lisa Varzino of the Broadview office. Lisa is the primary reason for our five star review. We have moved many times during our 61 years of marriage and Lisa was the best of all moving coordinators we experienced. Lisa was tops in guiding us through the technical maize of moving and the icing on the cake was her personality. We are very grateful for having had Lisa Varzino as our guiding light.Thank you so much, Lisa.Amy and Bob S.
We moved from MA to FL with very short notice. Lisa Varzino at National Van Lines was awesome! She not only was able organize our move in the timeframe we needed, but her constant communication with us went a long way in easing the stress of moving. I have moved many times and I would say that the movers were on par with other quality companies. The driver was very good at keeping us informed as well, and of course, the most important thing. Our belongings made it safely to our new home. Overall, I would have rated the company a 4, but Lisa's service earned them a 5-star rating. Way to go Lisa!
These movers promise to be with you through and whole move and promise the moon but they deliver NOTHING! We got passed off to several people and finally were only in contact with the sub-contractors they hired to pack and move us. Please if you are reading this DO NOT hire this company or trust me you will regret it. The sub-contracted group traveled 8 states with our stuff on their truck when it would only have taken a day to deliver to us. It came down to the fact I had medical equipment on board and had to beg to get our items delivered. Never again.
Recently moved from WA to IN and used National VanLines to ship all my stuff. Just took a little longer than the expected date for my shipment to arrive. But otherwise, great service and everyone from the company were very helpful and accommodating, especially Lisa Varzino! Will surely consider National VanLines during my next move in the future .
National Van Lines is awesome! I was working with a broker for another company which turned out to be such a bad experience that I switched to National less than two weeks before my move. I was very worried about the timing and Aaron Bacon was great in helping ease my anxiety and keep me informed about what was happening along the way. The driver, Carl Smith, was also very professional and helpful. I highly recommend National Van Lines and would definitely use them again. .
National Van Lines was terrific. I have used them twice and I would use them again in a heartbeat. Everyone I dealt with, from the office staff to the movers were professional and courteous. Quite frankly, on the second time I used them, we ran into a small snag and it took a little longer to deliver than expected. The staff was right on top of it, called and kept me updated, and even compensated me for the inconvenience. I am extremely impressed with the professionalism of all involved. My things were well taken care of and delivered with care. I honestly cannot say enough about National. They run their business like I run mine, with pride in what they do, and respect for the customer. I don't normally write reviews nor would I give praise where none was due. They definitely deserve this review.
National Van Lines had my stuff for over a half a month. They told me my stuff would arrive on Monday but than they said the truck broke down and I wouldn't get it till Friday. Supposedly the driver was suppose to lmk but he never did. I mean if you are carrying $4000 worth of ppls stuff don't you think they should have more reliable trucks. They aren't low on funds can tell you that much. We had to sleep on an air matress for way too long. As I am sitting here writing this I am still waiting for my stuff which was suppose to already be here this morning. I already paid them so I hope they bring my stuff. The only reason I gave them a 1.5 is bc the guys that picked up my stuff where nice. All in all there should be better options out there.
"Our move with National Van Lines overall was pretty smooth. Things were complicated by NY's floating closing date policy and our mortgage application getting screwed up by the bank.
So we had packers on a sunday afternoon, which was helpful for my work schedule and travelling. They loaded the truck without issue a few days later, we had a delivery date within two days of loading. National had no trouble meeting these dates.
And then our closing was cancelled and had to be rescheduled while the bank fixed their underwriting errors. That took about two weeks. And we couldn't prepossess.
So our stuff had to go into local storage, which was handled without a hitch by Lisa Varzino. Unfortunately, the local movers were tied up once we did finally close, and we waited about another week to get our stuff.
Delivery went smoothly. We're still unpacking. So far, a few things had dirty handprints, a few glass items were broken, and there's a few things we still can't find. I don't think any of the breakage was a result of handling but rather poor packing, some of which was packaged properly earlier but then had heavy things placed in the same box (marked fragile!) by the packers.
This could have been an even bigger nightmare, but National did a pretty good job overall, and Lisa Varzino was a pleasure to work with- she was kind, responsive, and is a real credit to National.
The company has been unresponsive to the complaints summarized by our cover letter when filing a damage claim August 31:
This document serves as a background documentation of our experience with our move with your company in January 2016. This was by far the most stressful and disruptive move we have experienced compared to four previous moves with other carriers. We were pleased with the estimation process, the two drivers and the loaders who packed the trucks at the origin. The loaders involved with the unloading became progressively less interested in distributing boxes to their labeled destinations as the unload progressed.
Worst, by far, were the packers. Their packing was capricious, inconsistent and in some cases laughably inappropriate, resulting in loss and breakage that was unnecessary and preventable. They were not responsive to requests by either the shipper (us) or the drivers. When told specifically pack to or not pack contents of furniture (e.g., drawer contents), the opposite would occur. It became progressively more apparent that their primary purpose was to increase the number of boxes and volume of materials used: boxes were consistently closed incompletely filled, non-breakable items double boxed and extra materials used. In one box, 19” of crushed paper were found in the base of the box – a box containing unbreakable items from the garage. The driver estimated that the box count was inflated by roughly 1/3 and during the packing/loading process contacted the company to reduce the number we were to be charged for (see also below). (This was done without our knowledge until after the fact and reflects the degree to which the abuses were observable and flagrant.) When requests were made, they were met by hostility or ignored. So that you can appreciate the degree to which the dysfunction was pervasive, we offer the following examples. They are listed in no particular order and are by no means complete.
Examples:
An antique (family heirloom) brass lamp was packed unpadded in the base of a wardrobe box. (photographed by the driver)
My wife’s cosmetics were lost for a time until they were discovered packed in mislabeled box along with a toilet brush and plunger. (Retribution for requests made?)
The shipment contained a large collection of antique gumball machines and the packers were instructed that these must be packed upright and could not be placed on their sides. Despite this request, several machines show signs of having been flat or inverted (product weights or other parts found loose inside the machine, which could only happen with inversion). In one case, an unwrapped machine was actually packed inside of a box upside down. It was also requested that wooden machines not be lifted by their tops, but in 3 cases the top have been lifted and partially separated from the body of the machine, in one case stripping the screws used to hold it in place, adversely impacting their collectable (market) value.
Materials that logically should be packed together were often separated. For example, the power cord for a printer was packed in another, unrelated, box (opened days later). In some cases, items from more than one room or source were combined, making it difficult to find dispersed items when trying to reconstruct our home at our destination. For example, food stuffs (from the kitchen) were found packed with antiques from the basement.
Furniture and other items were unnecessarily disassembled. For example, an interior shelf from an antique (heirloom) chest was removed (likely with some effort) and has never been found. Display boxes, that in past moves have been moved with contents intact, were emptied, sometimes damaged, and frequently dispersed. (See representative images of damage and further explanation on “Patent Medicine packages” claim page.) Ironically, there were instances where loose items should have been removed or secured. An example of a tobacco tin obviously containing patent medicines is shown in Figure 1, below. When furniture was disassembled, parts were frequently separated making reassembly at the time of delivery impossible. In the case of two display shelves, reassembly several days after delivery was hampered by the fact that we had not been present at the time of deconstruction, making the reassembly process long and difficult as we attempted to discern the correct sequence, parts and orientations. In the instance of a butler’s serving cart, parts were sufficiently separated that even the origin was uncertain for over a day while the trucks were being unloaded.
Despite the packers being admonished about the age, rarity and fragility of many of the collectables that were a large part of this shipment, little respect was shown. In some instances (e.g., collectable gum or advertising), small items were found on the floor at the end of the day – unpacked and at risk for damage or loss. (A photo of some of those items collected at the end of the day is attached below – Figure 2.) A small glass and cardboard gum display (the only one known from the first commercial producer of chewing gum in the United States – Inventory #2809), was packed with other heavier items on top. Similarly, an early Colgan's Taffy Tolu glass display jar (Inventory #2885) was thinly padded, placed in the bottom of a box and heavier items packed above. In both cases, damage or loss occurred.
Items that should have been emptied (e.g., marbles in a glass vase, liquid soap in a dispenser) were packed ‘as is,’ resulting in damage. In one case, a kitchen deep fryer, the item was packed while full of cooking oil. Because of how it was packed in the box, the lid fractured, spilling the oil on the contents of the box and leaking from the box. The box was packed on top of a couch and furniture damage was only averted by the driver’s use of plastic wrapping on the couch when it was loaded on the truck.
At the close of the loading, it was discovered that an entire kitchen cabinet had not been packed. Further a small marble slab (part of an antique hall umbrella stand), that had been directly handed by the driver to a packer to be packed, was found hidden in a kitchen drawer.
Items to be left behind in the house (e.g., food for the Koi in the house’s pond) were shipped and had to be mailed back.
Having a Koi pond at our old home (origin of the move), we had a number of containers (pots, ice cream containers, etc.) with rocks, stones and pebbles for pond plants, etc. The mover and packers were repeatedly told to leave those behind and yet on arrival 7 containers with rocks were found packed inside other boxes or otherwise shipped. These containers varied in size from ice cream bucket to water pail. Total weight of these 7 was probably in excess of 75 pounds. (One was in the box with the 19 inches of crushed paper noted above.)
The contents of the basement workshop were, in some cases, dumped unwrapped and unpadded into boxes. Cases containing small drawers of screws, nails, nuts, bolts and washers were packed laying on their backs, resulting in the drawer’s contents spilling into an unusable amalgam of loose hardware.
In several instances, boxes containing inventory stickers were found packed inside other larger inventoried boxes – most certainly resulting in double billing for materials. In one box, a large sheaf of unused packing paper was found and estimated by the local representative (Joe Bonnie & Sons Moving) to have weighed 15 pounds.
Garbage generated by the packers was found in a number of boxes. This varied from used tape cores to empty drink cans (from brands not purchased by the shipper) to partially eaten candy from the shipper’s kitchen.
For our collections, we had an extensive number of shelving units used for display. While many were initially tagged for shipment intact (without disassembly), they were eventually dismantled and jumbled separating matching sets and comingling others, making matching up the appropriate legs to shelves difficult and a continuing irritant. None of the ‘furniture’ shelving units shipped were reassembled by the company at the delivery destination, as noted above.
Despite having seen everything removed from the trucks, 36 clear and milk glass antique barber bottles have yet to be found. These were displayed in a single location and should have been packed either in the same box or in boxes originating from the same room (dinning). The fate of these is unknown at this time. (Cobalt barber bottles from the same room have been located and unpacked.)
While the most flagrant or greatest dollar loss items have been documented separately, the depth, breadth and pervasiveness of the abuses and failings by the packing team have resulted in overcharges, damage, loss and aggravation that could be as much a 1/3 the cost of the move. The 33 items separately documented in the attached exhibits, had a pre-move value of $13,590. (Not all items have a value assigned in the database.) Some of these items may be salvageable or restorable, but between the loss of value, the cost of restoration and the other issues documented above, we believe that it is reasonable to estimate our preventable moving losses at roughly $7,500.
The claim filing was subsequently lost and it required multiple phone calls to obtain a response. Shipper supplied requested documentation of valuation claimed, but ignored by National Van Lines. The specific damage claim remains unresolved - there has been NO response to the larger concerns outlined above.
Our cross country move went smoothly and efficiently. Damon was very easy to communicate over the course of the move and gave us an updated eta along the way. Damon, Louis and Terry safely unloaded our possessions with no damage to our house or our furniture. There was no damage to anything! They put together anything they dissembled and were friendly and in good spirits the whole time ! All in all it was a great experience.
We decided to go with National Van Lines for our move from CA to FL in September 2016. We had quotes from 4 other companies and ultimately it was the service and price that made us choose National. Had we known Damon and his team would be our movers, we might have picked National right away with no need for other quotes. Damon was punctual, highly communicative, easy going yet professional, and delivered all of our property on time and in perfect condition. The team always had a smile and energy to spare. If you are looking to move, go with National, ask for Damon.
I'm extremely pleased with our moving experience with National Van Lines. This is the second time my family has moved cross-country with them and I'd choose them again. Aaron Bacon answered my phone calls and emails on time and in a clear, professional and concise manner. Everything went as he explained. And the cost was as he quoted. My shipment arrived within the timeframe quoted. The driver, Lavelle, was such a pleasure to work with. He did a great job communicating the pick up and delivery times and was there when he said he'd be. He was careful, considerate and very helpful. He was also a fun person to be around. We did all of the packing ourselves and everything was ready to go when the driver arrived for pick up. This made for a very efficient move. There was damage to one piece of furniture. I filed a claim on-line and had an immediate response from the claims department. There was a mix up over the insurance I purchased, but that appears to have been resolved in a fair manner. I am still awaiting the resolution of my damage claim, but, at this point, I believe it will be quickly settled.
Definitely a "no worries" move. Damon Clark is our driver and organized the inventory and loading of the truck. He was exceptional in every way and made me feel completely at ease. He was polite, courteous and made a somewhat hectic experience more than bearable.
Thank you for your kind review. National Van Lines takes pride in treating each move like family & Damon is one of our top-notch drivers. Best of luck in your new home.
We moved across town in Monroe, Michigan with a crew from National Van Lines' office in Romulus, Michigan on October 15, 2016. Everyone at National with whom we came into contact was friendly, professional, courteous, and seemed eager to served the needs of the customer. Jim Simpson, the salesman who helped us plan the move in advance, knew his job well, provided pertinent information, and answered all questions. Our crew consisted of Craig, Jeremy, and Jim, and we've never seen anyone work so hard! These men were obviously well-trained in every aspect of their job. They treated all of our belongings with great care as if they were their own, and sought input from us throughout the day in how to do their job in a completely satisfactory way. They moved us quickly and efficiently. I will have no hesitation in using this company again, and I will give them my highest recommendation to others planning a move.
After my mother's death and emptying of her property, I moved family items from her place in Wilmette, IL to Albuquerque, NM where I live. Aaron Bacon was my contact person from the start, and he went above and beyond to keep in constant contact, answering all of my questions, address my concerns, and assure me of pick up and delivery dates (since I had to be in IL, then back in NM for loading then delivery). The moving crew (led by Dan) was kind, thorough, careful, and polite. They were a hardworking group and even managed to deliver my items to NM TWO DAYS after loading in IL. Amazing. Honestly, the move could not have been much easier. Talk about easing my mind. On top of it, only one lamp shade was damaged (due to my poor boxing and a heavy box having been set on top of that one). Additionally, when I emailed Aaron to point out a discrepancy between the quote and bill (originally we thought we'd need some help packing), he immediately addressed it and followed up on the refund. Couldn't ask for me. Thank you Aaron, Dan, and Crew, and thank you National Van Lines!
National was a great company to work with. Aaron Bacon in particular was excellent. I needed last minute arrangements and he was able to accommodate and make all arrangements in less than 24 hours. Before that I was planning to use a different company that kept messing up p the details. The crew that loaded was good. The crew that unloaded, Mike and Dan, were very efficient and were done quickly. I would highly recommend them.
I have nothing but good things to say about National Van Lines. Aaron Bacon was caring and made me feel as important as family. He emailed me almost daily with great advice and updates. He was kind and always available by email or phone for even the most trivial questions. Lori was also kind and helpful with my delivery questions. Victor and Eduardo who picked up our furniture were friendly, caring and professional. They treated our belongings with care and carefully wrapped everything. The delivery was made on time as promised and unfortunately I have forgotten the names of those who delivered. They were also caring and professional. I have heard horror stories about movers but nothing of the kind happened here. All belongings were numbered and categorized as to content. When they were delivered I was given a check off sheet to ensure that everything was accounted for. The delivery men also seemed to have a comprehensive knowledge of what was on the truck and to whom it belonged. I have only one word to say. AWESOME!
The Tucson crew of National Moving Van Lines, Desert Sun moving company are stellar!! From start to finish, from Samantha Sedrick giving me the quote and helping me finish the packing, bringing me boxes needed, to Noelle my driver and his labor crew, the packing of my treasures, and taking care of everything.. top rate. Courteous, friendly and efficient! I will recommend this company to anyone I know who is moving!! Thank you! The customer care was more important than the $ and I got a bargain!!
