My mom just moved from our home that she lived in for 50+ years in Minnesota to a small apartment in a senior living community here in Georgia. It was a an emotional and stressful time for her, however upon talking to Gary she felt at ease and her gut told her to trust him. We all felt that way and are so glad we did! He was in contact with us throughout the entire process making sure everything was being done to the highest of standards. The team that came to pack my mom's belongings were incredible! Time was taken and items wrapped very carefully. They were hard workers and more importantly, very kind to my mom. The next week, the items were delivered to her new home in Georgia and the guys there worked very hard as well. I cannot thank Gary and MidAmerican Moving and Storage enough for helping to make this transition a smooth one! Highly recommended!!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2700

The entire process was outstanding. The initial phone call was excellent and very professional and the quote I received was very accurate as far as how long the move would take. The day of the move, my team showed up at the time promised (Nick and Thomas, I believe) and they were both extremely professional and polite. They treated my furniture as if it was their own, which I very much appreciate. Before they left they asked if there was anything else I could do. They were awesome!! This company was recommended to me by a co worker and I in turn will also highly recommend to anyone. Fantastic experience!! AAA++ THANK YOU!!

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3900

They provided a deeply discounted estimate to get our deposit. When our move date changed, that deposit was non-refundable. Once on site, the price astronomically changed (no longer honoring the discounts). They pushed for cash only (because they don't like credit card disputes).

Our experience:
We had a very lengthy over the phone estimate (several hours of me running around with a tape measure) and ended up with an extremely detailed inventory list. Imagine my surprise when the driver (Nicolai) nearly doubled the cost. That's from roughly $4,770 to $9,770. I could not afford to pay a penny more than the estimated amount, so they only moved HALF of our things.

Now imagine that you are the spouse of a disabled veteran who is undergoing open back surgery and moving your children from Iowa to Kansas. You're exhausted, they're breaking your things and making it sound like it's your fault. Within minutes in the door they lofted a heavy box to the far end of a Danish Modern dining table and I watched it crumble as the legs snapped. They put a beautiful blown glass (retro) lamp on a table by the door and then decided to move the chaise out. I watched the lamp break and they never even acknowledged it.

After I pointed out the breakage and called Kris, Nic refused to load the tvs, computers, the glass inserts for all tables and shelves and all lamps. He refused to load my daughter's loft bed, our couches, entertainment center and our piano. They moved some furniture outside to make room for what they would take and left it on the lawn. The left couches tipped on end and devastated my children by not bringing their things.

By the time we drove out to Kansas we felt like we were refugees. To date we have made several weekend trips with an SUV and utility trailer but have not been able to move anything large. We are accumulating costs of gas, time, wear and tear on the vehicles.. not to mention exhaustion and the cost of carrying two mortgages longer than necessary. The time we should be spending on getting the house in Boone ready for market, we are spending in the Groundhog Day version of the Move From H..

The only bright star was Aaron, the delivery driver who wrote up a form explaining that he was not given an inventory list when I signed for delivery. The only honest one in the bunch, but as you can imagine, that paperwork has gone missing thus making a credit card dispute more difficult.

After our experience and a little more digging it appears they are not based in the midwest. Kris is in Florida and the address in Des Moines appears to be a contractor doing business as (dba). I cannot find a license for them to do business in Iowa. Run away from this company and do not let Kris and Gary coerce and convince you to make a poor decision.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4770

My move seemed to go smooth until delivery of furniture. First the movers were practically throwing a few boxes off truck so not a lot of fragile items made it without breaking. Then I find damage to 2 large pieces (TV & desk). The delivery guys were nice and took pictures & made note of damage on paperwork. The biggest issue is getting someone to call me back with status of the claim. I understand damage might happen (moved across country) but that’s why there’s insurance. I moved in February, still waiting on status update of claim after many calls, texts & emails.
Frustrated!!

Don't trust this company at all.
They hyped me with promises they couldn't keep. Then when I canceled my move with them within the contract dates specified in the contract, they decided they would just keep my deposit. Almost $1000.00
I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they replied to them that my deposit was justified and that the check was in the mail. No.
They are attempting to just keep my money, counting on the hassle it will be to get it back after moving out of state.
Not the kind of people I like to have around. Pitiful. I'm not done.

ZERO Stars!

Do not use this company..it is not worth the hassle, lies, mediocre service and disrespectful attitudes. Use a reputable company which will end up costing much less or even just doing it yourself versus using this company.

My recent move was a nightmare. They estimated an equivalent size for 13,000 lbs at just under $10K. Upon arrival and loading 2/3 of my belongings, they demanded an additional $5K..basically 150% of estimate. The final weight was near 9,000 lbs.

It was full service packing, but the foreman Nick refused to condense and pack my plastic totes for which they destroyed a few in the parking lot..but still charged me for the sqft after stuffing the contents to other boxes, and for packing them since everything was based on sqft.

They used old trashed boxes from my trash bin rather than new boxes. They took a ripped up box and completely slapped tape around it to hold it together. They took my brand new moving blankets out of the plastic and used them rather than packing them. Again, this was suppose to be a full service packing.

After receiving my items, many things were damaged, missing, and many boxes has excessive empty space in them.

My furniture was missing many screws, and they refused to assemble. They tried to dump as many items into the garage rather than bring them inside which made it impossible to do inventory.

Very rude and lack of attention. Many damages occurred to my belongings and to the residential property on both ends.

My estimate was for full insurance, and upon arrival, they claimed it was 60 cents per lbs and changed the terms of the contract. The foreman Nick kept demanding I sign it, and kept threatening he was going to leave my remaining items.

I am still working through trying to file my claim as there were so many things to go through, and document..a real headache. The total damages to my belongings, damages to residential property, missing items and more are currently near $30,000s.

This company and especially the foreman Nick have intentionally committed fraud.

They only communicate through text. Once I did receive get a person, and his English was very hard to understand..sounded like a heavy Russian accent..not midamerican.

Again, it is not worth it using this company.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $15000

I hired them to move my stuff from Sioux Falls SD to Fort Myers FL. One box of kitchen stuff went missing and the price was around 2000 easily to replace the items inside. They claimed that they didn't lose anything and they will only reimburse the actual value of the items if I had the receipts. They showed up to pick up items about 4 hours later than the appointment time. All of the picture frames and many stuff were broken. At the end, the charged my credit card double of what they quoted me and when I called them, they claimed that it was about the weight. I asked them did they calculate the fuel that they put in and weight?? They claimed that they already calculated everything. Stay away from them. That's simple!!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3500

The move cost me more than twice what I was originally quoted, but that's not where the horror ends. A box of very valuable knives and collector pens somehow didn't make it to my apartment. Gee, I wonder where those went (the box was marked "knives/pens"), like I don't know. Boxes were crushed, damaging many valuable art pieces and frames. One tub chair was missing and my TV stand was broken. Add to that their attitude was "who effin' cares?" Even ZERO stars are too much for this company. Stay away!!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4000

Made the move so much more stressful than it should have been. Charged over double what the quote was (booked through International Van Lines) but once they have your non refundable deposit you are stuck with them and screwed. Had 3 pieces of large furniture broken and many small items broken as well as missing items. We also received 6 large boxes of someone else's stuff. Have not rec'd any insurance settlement and what they are supposed to pay was a joke anyway. To top it off they were extremely rude and threatening. Do yourself a favor and skip this company and a lot of headaches!

After talking with countless moving I decided to go with Mid American for my long distance move. I chose them because their move coordinators weren't pushy and didn't pressure me like all the other moving companies I talked to did.

I moved from Iowa to Oregon last month and to say I was worried and stressed is an under statement. The day of pick up they came a little bit late and my move ended up costing me a little more than what they originally estimated. ( I ended up bringing more items which is why my cost went a bit up). The moving guys were very nice and professional and explained why my estimate ended up costing more. My items did take a little longer to deliver but it ended up being alright because I wasn't heading straight to Oregon after they picked up my belongings anyway. BUT The absolute best part of the move and also my main concern was that none of my items were missing nor were they broken!! Hallelujah !! For my first time hiring a moving company my experience was overall pretty good . If you are looking for a moving company that takes care of your belongings like they are their own, I recommend going with Mid American.

We hired MidAmerican Movers to transport our belongings from Johnston to Minnesota. It was a professional transition from point A to B! The movers arrived on time, provided professional customer service, and ensured protection on all our merchandise. We also received an accurate ETA for our belongings, which was crucial since we were on a time sensitive deadline.

When it arrived, a group of gentleman hauled all our belongings inside our new home with carefulness and precision. They asked us where we wanted furniture placed and boxes. We even had some debris in our driveway that they offered to take back on their empty truck for no extra cost.

Overall, it was a smooth transition hiring MidAmerican Moving & Storage. My husband and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a long distance move!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1250

Very quick and accurate execution of my request. Booking and delivery happened within hours with appropriate regular contact between myself, MidAmerican Moving, and the driver in-between. The driver behaved as someone who cared for the business, not as an employee of a corporate- who tend to show too much of their displeasure regarding the job to customers, in my view. This company was highly recommended by my friend, and I will too recommend them to everyone I know in a heartbeat without any hesitation!
