Modest Moving

My son and girlfriend hiredthem to move them from Omaha to Connecticut. they paid $1,100 down and then $1,100 was to be paid after the move. The company called the kids the day before the move telling them that they would not be able to be there the day that they told them they would but that they would be there the next day, and they did not show up! so these poor young kids were screwed out of $1,100 and we're two days late getting to their destination, College starting soon, very stressful situation ! I would highly not recommend this company!

I had the worst experience with modest movers. They quoted me thousands less than what I was charged by their "sister company" pack masters movers. I tried to file a claim but they would not let me (after I was promised when this was all over I could file a claim and get some of the money back). I refuted the deposit I pad to them of $900 with my bank and they just called me threatening me saying I would get arrested. Clearly, that is not how the law works.

The services promised to me did not happen. They told me I had to take it up with the other company. They have straight up lied to my face over the phone on so many occasions. The place they told me to place a claim through said they did not even work with them and that they were lying. This is an awful company. The woman who I booked the move with, Danielle, said she would be there for me every step of the way if I had any problems. The day the movers came, I could not get ahold of her and every call I have placed to her and message has been ignored.

I was asked what day I wanted my items delivered through the telephone consultation where services were coordinated. I gave them my move in date, expecting my items to be there around the date I chose. I was assured that this is the day my items would be at my new home. When my items were picked up, I heard nothing from anyone until I called to follow up. When I followed up, I was told that my items would be delivered within 15-21 days after my delivery date. That’s completely dishonest and I wish I would have just moved my things myself. Please, just hire the company yourself instead of these brokers, or contact the third-party they have assigned to you so you can find out their actual delivery eta. I wish I never heard of this company.

Worst moving experience of my life. They seem legit and seem like they care about making your move easier, when in reality, they simply are looking to get paid and then wash their hands of you.

We are a military family, and have moved 4 times now, doing it ourselves twice. This is absolutely the worst experience we've ever had and has cost us so much money, that we don't have, on top of the stress of moving. These people contacted us, had us believing they were the ones moving us at no point alluding to them being brokers, and proceeded to hire out the shadiest moving company they could find and refused to work with us through the process.

A few phone calls, when I pressed the issue when we started having problems, but nothing more than that.

That is not my major concern with these people, however. The "manager" outright lied to our lawyer on the phone (speaker, we were listening in), and was downright rude and refusing to hear what the problem was. They took our money and washed their hands of us while the moving company they set us up with tried to rob us blind and refused to finish the job they were hired for.

Not only that, but when the salesperson that spoke to me from this company was told to consider our home as a 5 bedroom house with furnishings and average amount of boxes associated with such, he somehow calculated that out to be 900 cubic feet.... How?!

How are they even still in business?!

0 Stars! I wish I could go back in time and do it all myself!! Reading through all these previous reviews I 100% am experiencing the same thing as all of the people writing the reviews. Initially talked the company down to a reasonable price, and they said they were in the area and could pick up my belongs within 2 days. Everything seemed good from the get-go, they said they don't outsource & that they are family owned. Until the day of pick-up they were supposed to come between 12-4pm and they came at 9pm. I found out that they outsourced their moving, so they lied! One of the most frustrating thing was that I was VERY clear/specific on all of the items that needed to be moved, and somehow a few pieces of furniture didn't fit! PLUS they tried to charge me for going over the allotted square footage amount. When I set up the move, they acted like I had extra room on the truck. So I was extremely disappointed that all the stuff didn't fit. I was also told things would get delivered between 3-21 days. It's been a month +2 days and still haven't received my belongs. I call at least a couple times a week and never get the answers I am promised. They will tell me they'll call back with updates and they never do! It's extremely disappointed and I feel cheated of my money.

I could go on and on... please save yourself of the company.

I cant understand how this company has any positive reviews, unless they are fake. They engage in deceptive tactics. Their sales people will promise the world (ie telling you your items will arrive in a limited amount of time, quoting a low price, etc.). A day or two before your move they will call you and tell you that your rate has changed to almost double the original quoted price, when you signed a contract. I spoke with Anna who was very rude on the phone. Florida has a number of these deceptive moving companies, yet the government is so pro-business that they dont do anything about it and allow them to continue to operate in this manner. Stay away from this company!

We believe Modest Moving uses deceptive business practices to capture business. Once the business is secured, changes in the services promised occur at a time when the customers’ options to change course are severely limited due to lack of available alternatives, causing loss of time, and/or requiring additional steep costs.

The estimate provided by Modest Moving was purposely underpriced, ignoring the original requirements provided, solely to capture our business.

Three days prior to pick-up, amid a heavy summer moving season where our options were severely limited, we were told that our move would cost $14K. Almost 5x more than quoted.

The service as described included pick up from our home by a truck that would then be driven straight to our destination for delivery on 06/28/21. This was reinforced by James via text that items would be delivered on 06/28/21. In reality, our items were picked up and then additionally handled four separate times, resulting in loss, delivery delays, and damage, and finally delivered almost 4 weeks later on 07/21/21.

Due to the above-mentioned handling and damages, we need to file a claim within 12 weeks of delivery. Modest Moving provided incorrect instructions for filing a claim, resulting in loss of time to file within the required deadline. To date, we are still awaiting proper instruction on how to file a claim.

I was lied to throughout the entire process and charged another $800 upon pickup of my items. The sales guy Johnny Westin told me I could call or text at any time and when I did that the phone number was disconnected. They were nowhere to be found upon my redelivery date and I was told I'd have a couple days notice before they came. I got a text from a driver 2 hours before he wanted to come and then a call at 9:30pm from the mover. They will say they aren't a broker but they absolutely are. My advice: stay away from brokers and work directly with a moving company.
