Long-distance move from California to Maryland

Moving my furniture.

I Would not Mayflower to move TRASH. Everything that was moved was not Covered or shrink wrapped like said by Mr Trout he told me that they would be professional movers with uniforms they look like a bunch out of rehab. I've called Mayflower all I got was the run around. After paying almost 12,000 the furniture is all messed up scratched and marked up. The furniture was from 1927 I have before an after pictures. Don't trust JD Powers for backing up Mayflower for being a trusted Company in Moving people are welcome to contact me.

Long-distance move from Colorado to Tennessee

Unbelievably unprofessional and poor service.

Where do I even begin?? My moving experience with Mayflower was a complete disaster from start to finish, to the point that it was almost (*I say "almost") comical. I hired Mayflower to move me from Colorado to Tennessee, paying extra to shorten the delivery spread from 2 weeks to 1 week due to time constraints starting a new job. On the packing/loading date, the crew showed up 3 hours late. The packers (who I found out later are subcontracted by Mayflower locally) sloppily packed up about half of my stuff and then disappeared! They were gone, and I literally had half of my kitchen cupboards still untouched, among other random piles in other rooms that were not packed (*Note: these were NOT "unpackable" items, I.e. matches, candles, etc. that are standard to be excluded from moving by most moving companies). The moving coordinator was absolutely no help in trying to track them down to tell them to come back and finish the job I had paid them to do. Luckily, I was driving my own car and was able to cram it full of the stuff the movers left behind -- the loaders had no more boxes for me to pack it up myself and send it on the truck with them! Then started the saga of delivery. I consistently had to leave at least 3 messages asking for an update on my estimated delivery date for every return call I received with the information that they still had absolutely no idea. I am not joking, the last day of the promised delivery date per our contract, the coordinator told me they were still trying to figure out how to find a truck for my stuff to even be loaded onto to START the moving process! There was no plan, and ZERO communication. My stuff ended up getting delivered 8 DAYS OVERDUE, and then came the fun part of unpacking to find out really how awful the packers had been: they had wrapped up a soccer ball in sheets and sheets of packing paper so it took up an entire huge box, and yet they had thrown in an open box of cream of wheat into an enormous box of kitchen equipment. Needless to say, I am still cleaning out cream of wheat from my dishes, appliances, and other household items. I spoke with the company directly about what a horrific and unacceptable experience this was, and there was absolutely no apology or offer of compensation. My family and friends who lived through this nightmare with me will NEVER use Mayflower or even think about recommending it to anyone.

Long-distance move from Nebraska to Pennsylvania

Moving from NE to PA.

We had one of the worst moving experiences you can imagine. We hired Mayflower because of their reputation and competitive pricing, but we found out that Mayflower is a company on paper only and relies on local franchises to do their moves. It has been one surprise after another..and not good ones! We contracted them to move our belongings from Omaha to Mechanicsburg, PA. On the day they were supposed to pack the van, a soft-sided van pulled up to "crate our things for storage" 2 hours and 45 minutes late. They said there wasn't a van/driver available, so they would have to store our things until they could "find one". Mayflower maintained that they were still “withinn contract" because they said they would pick up our things in Omaha and take them to Mechanicsburg. Technically true, but it seemed to us that their decision to store our things for an undetermined amount of time in the process was unreasonable. We seemed to have no recourse but to agree to let them load because we had to be out of the house that day as the new owners had closed. We no longer owned the house! Here are just a few things we put up with that day. *sent a crew three instead of four (two of the three were novices) *crated our things in wooden crates, but ran out of room in that van, so they packed boxes in another smaller truck, along with our piano, splitting up the  shipment *were told that all moving supplies would be included and delivered to us..our sales representative brought us a small stack of USED, STAINED boxes, and we had to go pick up all the rest *totally forgot to put inventory stickers on 10 items that we are aware of, including china….that means they wouldn’t be accountable if the items were lost *were told by the franchise owner that we could call customer service, but they would only call him, and he would do nothing about it *had money stolen from our purses (Ironically, it was to be the guys' tip money.) *driver was told by Mayflower that more people would come to help, but they never showed up *finished loading the house at 4:00 AM the next morning *originally said we would get a refund of $751 because of the over-estimation, but later they came back and nullified that because they "forgot to weigh" the second truck *two original workers had to call friends who didn't even work for Mayflower to get our things loaded, so there were unbonded workers in our home (One of the workers had been previously fired from Mayflower).  *We paid for them to crate 3 mirrors, and they were only wrapped in blankets. *Mayflower was very accommodating until we signed "I accept" on the contract. At that point, everything changed. Our things arrived in Mechanicsburg on Saturday (7 days after they were packed) on another truck because they had to unload the crates and repack them onto the big semi-truck……meaning our stuff was unnecessarily moved an extra time. My son-in-law had half his tools missing, boxes were damaged, furniture taken apart with missing pieces, and the list goes on and on. Needless to say, we are spending a lot of time just trying to piece things back together, find bolts and screws, etc. I AM WONDERING HOW MUCH OF THIS WILL GO THROUGH THEIR "FILTRATION" PROCESS..

Long-distance move from Maine to Florida

Fraudulent supervisor of move.

We moved from Maine to Florida and had contacted Mayflower to do our move. Becky Isabell was a very professional sales rep and was there for our every question. This is where positive feedback ends. We were told that the movers who came to pack us would have to load us into a smaller truck that would then be loaded into a bigger truck  at a different location. This is the perfect storm for theft and lost items. When the movers arrived in Florida they told us that they would have to move our things once again into a smaller truck from the bigger truck. Again the perfect storm for theft, lost items, and rough handling of all of our boxes. We had had special crates made for antique ship models. One crate has not arrived to this date.  My largest and most disturbing issue is with the lead truck driver on the date they moved us into our house in Florida. He handed me a sheet and told me to "check off the box numbers as they are brought into the house." I did this diligently as told. As the movers were finishing up I showed this man that there were still boxes NOT checked off. He took the paper work from me and when I saw the paper again he had checked off all the boxed but had missed one. I told this to Becky Isabell how I felt that this man was not honest. I felt for this man because he had been with this moving company for years and was from Maine himself. If he did this to us I am sure he has used this same behavior pattern for years too on others. Now the movers do not want to pay for the antique ship model. They  have sent us a very small check for the broken wine glasses, missing antique plates, damaged frames from the paintings.  This is a very disreputable way to run a business. I wish I would have read the comments on the web before we ever started with them. We had taken out a very high insurance policy with them for the move too. Mayflower is a ghost company. The head driver was not honest. Things disappeared and no one is held accountable.      .

Long-distance move from Oregon to Iowa

Poorest Moving Company Ever.

If I could give 0 stars, I absolutely would. I dealt with the local office in Klamath Falls, OR to set up my move to Iowa and was impressed upon first impression. It went downhill from there!! The original driver didn't show up to load my belongings on the day of pick-up. The local office sent out a team (which were good) to pick up the items and stage them in the warehouse until the driver could get them. I received ONE phone call from the local office after that. All communication, except the one call, was initiated by me. I called daily to see if the driver had picked up my belongings and to give me an idea of when to expect delivery. Many times, the lady would tell me she would check on it and call me back and didn't call. I got nothing but the run-around until another driver was assigned to the route. I still haven't a clue as to what happened to the initial driver.

After the second driver was assigned and picked-up my belongings, his truck breaks down 1.5 hours from my home. My belongings sit another 2 days waiting on the truck to be repaired. The truck finally begins the route again and continues down into into California and Arizona.

The only way to keep track of the shipment is to track it on line which does work for the most part. The daily emails that my local office says she sends me..well let's just say they aren't in my email or my junk box. I have no trouble getting the emails related to quotes and billing.

So..I call the local office AGAIN to voice my frustration about the late delivery and the lady told me that if it were her, she would have packed more clothes just in case. Needless to say, I was furious. Like I drove all across the USA in an empty car!! Did she want me to leave my kids behind? Really?? Is this the customers fault? She then tells me that Mayflower will make this right by giving me $100 per day that the miss the delivery date. I don't want their money!! I want my belongings.

PLEASE AVOID USING THIS COMPANY!! I used BUDD Van Lines when I moved from Ohio to Oregon in 2011 and they were AWESOME. They cost a little more but trust me when I say I would rather pay a little more and avoid 2 weeks of complete aggravation.

Long-distance move from California to Florida

Driver's lack of communication cost us.

Mayflower moved our two bedroom condo across the country.  The driver failed to communicate as promised.  He showed up in a huge van that could not enter the condo complex.  We had told him in advance, and if he had called as he should, we could have reminded him. He had to drive 20 miles north to offload our delivery.  In the process he failed to offload a standing brass lamp.  The loading agent admitted it was on board, and we did get the lampshade.  When we notice it was not delivered, we were to that it had been disassembled and was in a box.  It was not.  I believe the driver failed to offload it to the smaller truck and was too tired to drive the 20 miles back and forth. We filed a claim with Mayflower.  It was denied by BRETT RAPPS of the CUSTOMER CLAIMS DEPT. on the basis that we did not object in writing at the time of delivery that the lamp was missing, in other words we signed the acceptance of delivery form without making any exceptions.
MY ADVICE: IF YOU USE MAYFLOWER, THEN MAKE THE DELIVERY CREW STAND AROUND WHILE YOU OPEN EVERY BOX AND CHECK OFF EVERY ITEM ON THE INVENTORY CONTROL FORM.  THE DELIVERY CREW ALWAYS WANT TO LEAVE ONCE THE BOXES AND FURNITURE HAVE BEEN DELIVERED - BUT DON'T LET THEM, OTHERWISE YOU WILL END UP LIKE US, CLAIM DENIED BY BRETT RAPPS!

Long-distance move from Minnesota to Florida

Mayflower Moving Company.

If I can save anyone from a painful experience, I will by writing this review. What I did not understand was that the man that talks to you, comes to your house to inventory your goods and then estimates the cost of the move is not the man in charge. He is a salesman and once you have signed the paper, you never see or hear from him again. If your belongings are not a full load for the long distance hauler, it is placed in a warehouse until they find a partial load or loads that can be put with your belongings. Your belongings are handled twice or maybe more. Depending on where the other loads are, your goods could be on the top or the bottom. Then the driver picks up a local man to help unload the truck and bring in your items. All my boxes were smashed, goods inside ruined, furniture dented or scratched, items broken and then we were told that it was because we did not use the company to pack things. When I filed a claim an adjuster came out and they offered me a small amount of money, not enough to cover replacement or repair. Just an awful experience which I hope to avoid in the future by packing my own things and driving my own truck. Seriously, I care about my things and clearly they do not.

Long-distance move from Orlando, FL to Dandridge, TN

Nightmare.

I called Mayflower and this salesman showed up with Mayflower flyers and booklet with Mayflower name and pictures and we signed the contract then the day I was moving out of my house A truck with the name UNITED VAN Lines shows up we were shocked . We were told it is the same company since United Van Lines purchased Mayflower . They put down this dirty filthy floor covers . they did damage most of our furniture when they delivered , they offered us $300.00 dollars even we had a full coverage and the day delivered the only day with rain forecast they would not change the dates or charge you tons of money to store it some where near your house. When they showed up to deliver this one tall guy with a woman like 200 pounds sitting in passenger side doing nothing but watching when we asked where is help? he said the help is is coming from Knoxville Tennessee and he was an hour late showed up saying he had a flat tire. This woman in the passenger was related to tall guy and did nothing but I believe was getting paid and part of the 3 guys were supposed to move the furniture. My furniture was placed into truck by shuffling everything so they can save every inch of space in the truck. Most of my furniture were scratched and dented. They were expensive too I only had bedroom and living room for $4500.00 dollars. From Orlando to Dandridge Tennessee . I was told to prorate my storage fee , they never did ,they overcharged me. I would never use or recommend them it was a nightmare.

Long-distance move from Nebraska to Texas

No Communication. Deny and Ignore Tactics.

Saturday delivery.  Dropped first 2 pieces.  Did not reassemble. Just wanted to get it over with.  Dragged feet on sending someone out to assess damages.  Then had to call them back out.  Then they claimed they lost file and photos.  Next stated that it was past claim date.  Never made complete offer. Deny  and ignore tactics.  Turned over to Corporate where a Ms. Julie Rohr stated that she would expedite in 15 days.  She constantly ignores all communication.  Has been another 15 weeks.  Now over 2 years and no solution.   DO NOT use Mayflower.  They have absolutely the worst Customer Service.  You pay extra for full replacement.  You have to go thru hoops to define high-value items and then they "respectfully" deny everything.  Theyshave no scruples whatsoever.  They do not treat you as a valued customer.   We have moved over 20 times.  Mayflower is bottom of the barrel.  STAY AWAY.
