Local move within Connecticut

Horrible experience; Damaged furniture and household items - no reply.

My husband and I are so disappointed with the quality of the move. Since we have finished unpacking, we have found numerous items broken and most irreparable. A one of a kind sculpture has a busted foot; our crystal chandelier is broken; many pieces of irreplaceable/collectible furniture are dented and in some cases deeply scratched; our Dyson vacuum cleaner has gashes in the base; and, many other pieces of furniture have either some part missing or dented; and, even lawn equipment damaged. Not to mention that we still can't find some items and we only have 3 boxes left to unpack (and they are too small to hold the items we are looking for). But the most upsetting, was my daughter's height chart marking her growth since she was born that someone removed from a table top, threw away and not only didn't ask us if they could remove it, but didn't even tell us they removed it and threw it away.

We paid a large amount of money to ensure the move would be as seamless as possible, and that our possessions would be handled with care and respect. .

Long-distance move from Massachusetts to Colorado

Bad experience.

From start to end Mayflower was disappointing. I even wrote to complain after getting limited help through phone calls and they were not truly concerned. This was a total waste of money and I regret the decision to use them. The packing was terrible and I think some of the people were drunk. Boxes were labeled incorrectly. Items arrived dirty and missing pieces. We had to go out and buy parts for dining room table and put it back together ourselves. Poor communication.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Florida

Very Pleased !!

We do not have much experience with moving,  as we've lived in our former home for 30 years  -- and we were very nervous as to which company to hire as they all seemed to have some wonderful reviews and some very negative reviews -- we chose Mayflower because they were able to give us an exact arrival date right from the start,  rather than other moving companies that were only able to give us a "window"  of  an arrival date.  They showed up on time,  arrived at our new address on time,  and the final price that we paid was EXACTLY  what they quoted us from the start !!  Nothing damaged,  nothing missing,  no compaints at all  !!  Kudo's to Nick,  Brittany and the entire staff of Sinclair Mayflower as well as the Florida division down here at  A 1 A  Moving.   If we need to move again in the future,  I would not even think of using anyone else.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Florida

Excellent.

I have moved all over the world and 7 times within the USA and I can honestly state that Mayflower are the best company I have ever used. Competative rates, honest, reliable, friendly and very efficient. My goods arrived a day early, all thanks to the great driver Gary, who made the move smooth as could be, he also has a great sense of humor. Nothing was broken, unlike my prior movers. Mike the estimator came out as did estimators from 6 other companies but he was the most professional. If you want a good company then look no further this is it.

Long-distance move from Florida to North Carolina

Worst move ever!

After multiple military moves with little or no damage, this private move from Tampa, FL to Raleigh, NC was the worst ever. It cost over $10,000. and the damage was incredibly ridiculous. Torn, broken items, liquid packed in boxes, and damaged furniture. I had four pages of claim damages with supporting photos and all claims were denied, even though I had 100% coverage. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Long-distance move from Missouri to Washington

Late, Damaged, no communication.

Short story: My shipment was a week late and damaged.Longer story: They packed and picked up my shipment in mid November. Delivery was set for a week later. I was advised I needed to be there to accept the shipment or I would incur extra storage charges. I flew out to make sure I was there on the first possible delivery date and was informed the morning of that the shipment would not arrive until a week and a half later. Turns out they knew that the shipment couldn't get delivered on time before they had picked it up but had neglected to tell me. Even though I was at the destination my belongings were still in a warehouse in the originating city. They knew that once that  my belongings were on the truck on a truck I couldn't do anything and I had to pay in order to get the truck unloaded once it did arrive. Once it was unloaed it was clear my shipment had been loaded and unloaded multiple times enroute. In that process lots of wooden things had been damaged, scraped, etc. This was probably due to the fact they didn't have a driver when they loaded my shipment and had to load and unload it from the trucks to the warehouse and back multiple times.DO yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague. Grabel quoted higher but I regret not going with them. Between the vacation I burned, plane tickets I bought, and nights in the hotel Mayflower cost me 5k more in time and money. Not sure how to monetize stress but probably the 2nd most stressful time in my life.

Long-distance move from New York to North Carolina

Do Not Use This Company.

The entire moving process with this company has been a joke. Careless, inconsiderate and not even close to professional only skims the surface. My belongings were treated like garbage. Fragile boxes stacked six high on a hand truck and bounced down a flight of stairs. Unprotected items dragged down the driveway. Items left unprotected out in the rain. The wrong size truck was used so now everything has to be moved to a smaller truck for delivery. And what reassurance do I get that ANYTHING is being handled properly? "We will send you a claim form". I'm afraid to see my belongings if ever they arrive. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE BEYOND AWFUL. I cannot speak to whether or not items were stolen as my delivery is currently being transferred. However photos and videos support carelessness and damage when loading in New York.

Long-distance move from Michigan to Texas

Not Right!

I hired Premier Relocations whose Parent Company is Mayflower recently for a cross country move and I am unhappy with the service for a few reasons. If you choose to go with Mayflower know that your glass tables or anything that has a glass top WILL NOT be reassembled, even after they have disassembled them. This was not explained to me prior to the move.

I have 12 glass tables/pieces of furniture including a large glass top entertainment center. Three in particular are glass tables that must be screwed together which the movers refused to reassemble. I hired Mayflower a few years ago and they re-assembled these exact SAME three glass tables with no problem.

I cannot understand why this company thinks it is reasonable for a customer to lift very heavy glass, let alone re-assemble something that they did not disassemble in the first place!!

Long-distance move from Florida to New York

Do not trust this company.

AThey moved me from Florida to New York City. I took an insurance of $100,000-value for damage or lost of my furnitures. My beautiful French wood furniture which were listed as high value items were kept in moist storage and had grey mildew or were used outdoor. A side table wood was raised frm the moist and the inurance adjuster told us they will not pay for that because it can not be fixed!◾️ Every wood item were either broken or moister damaged◾️ In New York they had provided only three unexperienced movers to unload the furniture. They brook most of my wood furnitures while bringing them up through the elevator.♦️ It looked like they collected those workmen from the street corner and hired for the one day job! They book or cheeped every single wood furniture that I have.
♦️ Among the damaged goods was An expensive and very high quality side table with a special lacquer top got a hole on side and moist and water got in it and their adjuster who gave us a visit confirmed the high value for the damage! Then the insurance claimer denied and refused to pay for the damage, claiming the damage was not transit related. ♦️.

Long-distance move from New York to Tennessee

Stalling tactics and Scamming.

Mayflower headquarters gave me a "local sub-contractor" they use.
I tell the sub-contractor I MUST move by 9/30 no later. I called 9/10, she tells me I have to wait for an estimator to come out on 9/16. On that date no one shows. I am TIME constrained, she says asks me over the phone what you do you have?(it can actually fit into a small box truck) she said she will e-the estimate. Didn't. I call and she lays the bomb on me.1 sedan(two other companies gave me and estimate for $950 but since the did not include the house stuff I didn't use them)---So for one car, plus a small truck load they wanted $9000!! that was their estimate!! No way for 650 mile trip that takes 10 hours. I know I have done the driving. Conservatively this job is $4000 including the car, at tops.
So she jerked me around wasting my time to rope me into a time constraint to where I will agree to anything, is what this came down to. I called Mayflower/United headquarters to report this unethical behavior. MAYFLOWER customer service managers then an alleged manager at headquarters were just as disgusting by not being appalled but instead whitewashed "geraldines" unethical behavior as though scamming is the norm for this company.
I WANT TO THANK ALL OF THEM FOR SHOWING THEIR TRUE COLORS BEFORE I SIGNED ONTO THEIR SERVICES.
You did me a huge favor!!
So I started looking on line for another company and I came across THIS WEBSITE!! Thank you again Mayflower!!
THIS SITE IS AWSOME!! gives great inside information on what to expect from movers, from people with real experiences!
Not jus one or two stories that can be written by the companies themselves.
Mayflower customer service interaction and feed back was horrible and left me with the distinct impression that SCAMMING THE CUSTOMER IS THE INSTITUTIONALIZED NORM, for them. There is a silver lining in every cloud because of their unethical behavior I found this site and I was saved from making a HUGE mistake by signing onto their service.
SAVE YOURSELF FROM THEIR ABUSE..DON'T USE MAYFLOWER.

Long-distance move from Arizona to Idaho

Moving from Arizona to Idaho.

I am a physician just out of residency and we used Mayflower to move our belongings out of state. I will have to say this was one of the worst decisions and experiences throughout my career while moving from state to state for training. They were 3 weeks late delivering out items and each time I spoke with a customer service representative they told us they could not find a driver to bring our belongings. They picked up our items from our home and took them to a warehouse in Tucson, Arizona where they sat for several weeks. They always told us we were a priority but they could not bring our stuff until they could fill the truck with a couple of other orders. I started my new job just out training which was stressful enough but we had to buy our children air mattresses to sleep on for several weeks and use disposable plates, cups, and utensils. This was very upsetting to my children who already felt very displaced. When the truck arrived, our load was smashed between two other movers belonging and each box was damaged and smashed. We are still finding things that are broken. I have called customer service several times over the last two weeks with most of my calls not being returned. When I do get a hold of someone they tell me how important we are to them but each of my concerns are never addressed by management. When management finally responded for a customer service claim they responded with a fraction of the cost of the move. I could go on but I will end with this is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever encountered. We will never contract them again. Anyone that I speak with in my personal or professional life I will advise them to never use them to move.

Long-distance move from Wisconsin to North Carolina

If only there was a negative rating.

Every step of this experience has been frustrating. The packing crew didn't wrap items and packed things in a manner which caused many items to break. The movers packed heavy items on lighter ones, causing damage. The unused packing materials were not picked up as said, causing us to delay our departure, costing us money. The inspector walked around with his pants unzipped, rolling his eyes if I attempted to answer questions. The company refuses to give us any copies of their policies or procedures or a timeline for when this may be settled. Months later, and we still haven't seen any reimbursement and can't get anyone to return messages. We tried to work with them, not claiming the minimal damages to either of our homes and only asking for partial reimbursement for our damages. They have not shown us the same respect. I would never allow Mayflower to move us again. Chalk this up to a very expensive lesson on our part. At this rate, I doubt we ever see reimbursement for our items.

Additional Advanced 3rd party Moving charges.

I have binding estimate for an amount including 3rd party services for advanced charges for unhooking & hooking up a washer and dryer at the origin and destination totaling $180.00 (this was included in the total for the move). After the move I got another bill for $92.00. After numerous calls to the company and billing I am told that the they can charge me more now. My complaint is why include it in a binding estimate if they are going to charge you more anyway. It should not be included or this amount should be deducted now from what I already paid. So this is deceiving. I had additional charges for storage which I don't dispute.

Move from Pennsylvania to Texas.

My experience using Mayflower Transit for my move from Pennsylvania to Texas was excellent. I contacted several companies but when I talked to the representative for Mayflower in New Jersey, I knew this was the company I wanted to move my items. I only had a very small window to both get a quote and then have my items packed and moved. He was there Friday for a quote and the packers came on Monday to pack and move my items. The packers and the men who delivered my items in Texas were both courteous and careful with everything. Definitely would use them again!! Also, Mayflower was much more reasonable than the other companies.

Long-distance move from El Paso, TX to Stow, OH

Yet another dissatisfied customer.

Like all moving companies, this one is yet another unpleasant one.
- The quote: of course was easy and also it was very accurate, hence the two starts. It was timely and covered most of the details. Did not cover the unpacking details, that was a big surprise.

- Pre-packing: This is when things started becoming dicey. There were no records of me when I called to verify. This was terrifying. Had to go through multiple hoops for them to even find me. With all the stress of packing and deadlines, the last thing you need a week before your travel is for the moving company to constantly state that they are not aware of your move
- The packing: Overall painless, It was done over two days, however it was over a weekend. That is poor organization in my opinion, since now you will spend your weekend with an apartment full of boxes. However, the workers were professional and labeled every thing very carefully.
- The transit: a night mare, no one had any clue where my shipment was. Had to go through three difference call centers to even find it, just to inform me that they have no clue. I was the one that informed the main company where my shipment was, once I located the driver myself. It is a terrible feeling not having any clue where your life belongings are.

- The unpacking: Their idea of unpacking is : flip the box with all you belongings upside down and leave it in any room. We had 96 boxes, please imagine the massacre. The wife and I almost had a nervous breakdown. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS OPTION. It is useless.

- The aftermath: Of course somethings were damaged. The claim adjuster is as evil as them come and I will not be getting a penny for close to 2000 dollars worth of losses. My move cost 6800 dollars for a 570 square foot apartment and 96 boxes. Then add 2000 dollar for losses and 200 for tips and food for the workers. this is for 1600 mile trip.

The moving industry is overall plagued with similar or worse stories, I doubt that there are anything companies that are any better than this. But due to the monopolized nature of this industry, there are limited choices. Thus reviews like mine serve as a rant, more than a useful guide.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to Idaho

Horrible company.

Moving to North Carolina was okay, nothing really got damaged but one dresser of ours. Now leaving North Carolina was another story. They showed up to our house with an already full truck and just started shoving our stuff into the truck. When it arrive in Idaho more than half of our big furnatire was broken or damaged. The big stuff, that you'd think would be harder to break. When we sent our claims in we were told they wouldn't pay for it. Said that they'd give us some but not our asking. (Which our asking prices were lower than the actual cost to replace all of the things they broke) So here I am with majority of my big furnatire broke and I am able to replace one or two of the items they broke with the money the insurance gave us for our claims. I'm so sorry if you get stuck with this moving company, I wish you luck.

Blown away- exceeded expectations in every way.

I had such an amazing experience with mayflower. My coordinator, Linda, make everything easy and communicated effectively during the entire process until our funrniture was shipped.

Our driver Ricky and his son Kenny were the best! Professional, courteous, precise and treated our belongings like it was their own. I am really

Long-distance move from Fairhope, AL to Vancouver, WA

Mayflower/unigroup do Not Use!

Interstate move AL to WA with contract in which Mayflower's own contract promised:
"Full Value Replacement Coverage" which states; "Full (Replacement) Value Protection is the most comprehensive plan available for protection of your goods. If any article is lost, destroyed, or damaged while in your mover’s custody, your mover will, at its option, either 1) repair the article to the extent necessary to restore it to the same condition as when it was received by your mover, or pay you for the cost of such repairs; or 2) replace the article with an article of like kind and quality, or pay you for the cost of such replacement."
Mayflower contracted to pack/crate certain high value items including a Portoro Super marble tabletop. Mayflower failed to crate any items before moving them. Marble tabletop arrived broken. I made a claim to Mayflower and its parent Unigroup for the broken marble table top. 3 months - no response. I obtained and sent to Mayflower/Unigroup a binding quote from a marble company to (1) replace the marble tabletop with the exact same marble, (2) fabrication to the exact same size (so it would fit the original table base, and (3) shipping to me. Thereafter, Mayflower/Unigroup finally responded stating that they were obtaining other replacement quotes. A month later, Mayflower/Unigroup offered to pay me ONLY 10% of the binding quote for the full value replacement cost I had provided to them. The Mayflower/Unigroup offer was purportedly based upon an appraisal from their appraiser. Mayflower never got any quotes to actually replace the tabletop as promised.
Mayflower breached its promise to crate items before moving them and then breached its promise to provide Full Value Replacement. Mayflower did not promise and I did not agree to accept only "appraisal value coverage" or "actual cash value" coverage. Mayflower promises Full Value Replacement coverage for lost/broken items and then tries to cheat its customers by paying less than the replacement cost. DO NOT TRUST MAYFLOWER, DO NOT MOVE WITH MAYFLOWER OR ANY OTHER MOVERS OWNED BY UNIGROUP [Mayflower's parent company that is involved in claims adjustment] - YOU CAN FIND A LIST ON THE INTERNET of all Unigroup owned movers.

Long-distance move from Indianapolis, IN to Boston, MA

Over-promise, Under-deliver Literally.

We moved from Indianapolis to Boston using Mayflower. The local Mayflower representative who we spoke with to obtain a quote guaranteed that the movers would take great care with our furniture, pack it into the truck, drive cross-country, unload, and re-assemble our furniture. We checked several reviews online, and decided to go with Mayflower.

1 - The movers were 1 hour late to pack up the truck in Indianapolis. No big deal.

2 - They did not use any care. Several items ended up being broken, scratched, dented, and otherwise damaged. They refuse to work with us to compensate for the damages.

3 - When they were unloading our items in Boston, they absolutely refused to re-assemble any of our furniture. I was told by both Mayflower's corporate office, and their local office representatives, and our Mayflower booking agent, that re-assembly is standard. Yet, they refused to re-assemble any of our furniture, and their response was: "Sorry. That's unusual that the movers wouldn't re-assemble anything for you, but we can't make anyone do anything." Basically telling me that we were screwed.

For the amount of money they charged, and level of service they claim, it has been an absolutely disgusting experience working with them. They should be ashamed of themselves. Don't make the same mistake as me - book with a credible, reliable, moving company. Mayflower is horrible.

Very Happy

I told myself I would write a review no matter what since it was so hard to find good reviews, but we had a very pleasant experience with Mayflower. Keep in mind, Mayflower is probably not moving your stuff. They deal with local moving companies who do the actual moving, so you can have a very different experience depending on the crew you get. I'm sure Mayflower takes a cut, so you could probably get it done cheaper going directly to the local companies, but in our case, it was a huge benefit that Mayflower connected us with very good movers. They packed everything extremely carefully and were very professional, no damage, not even a chip of paint in the process. Again, remember that Mayflower is connecting you with a team of movers, not actually moving your stuff, so results may vary. I would strongly recommend asking ahead of time what moving company they're using and looking up reviews for that specific company.

I have seen lots of complaints about valuable items getting stolen. We didn't experience this, but also didn't ship any super valuable items. I would say just don't do this, or have them fully insured (Mayflower gives you the option to do this). You have to remember, the people actually doing the moving are probably making $10-15 an hour on a part time gig, so if they see a $30k rolex in a drawer and know it's not on the list, that's a pretty strong temptation.

Lost half of our things

When it came to packing up the truck the guys were phenomenal. However, when we bought our home, we called up mayflower a month in advance to schedule the delivery of our items. When the day came, December 20 2021, only half of our items arrived. We still have yet to get the rest of our stuff. It’s been almost a month since delivery and we have reached out every day just to get the same response. We feel as though we are getting the run around. They can’t seem to find our items and we were told this is the first time this has happened. A lot of the items missing are family heirlooms that cannot be replaced. This is honestly the most ridiculous thing ever. Please, if you value your things, use a different company.

Delivery of house hold goods were delayed by 1 week, without notice

I moved from boston to st.louis. When the team came to pack they didn’t cover my rugs stepped all over them and one is ruined. The delivery was delayed by 1 week and I wasn’t informed about the delay until the day of delivery when I called to confirm the time, which didn’t allow for me to plan for other options.

Also the delay claim of $100 per day is quite insignificant in comparison to the total cost of the move and the cost for me to pay someone to unpack as I can’t do it myself now.

Additionally I experienced the same issue with my car, it was delayed one week, the company didn’t bother to notify me, I called them on the delivery date expecting to receive a delivery time then I was told that it would be delayed without an expected delivery date, I had to keep calling to get a delivery date. Which also doubled my expense for a rental car, again without notice therefore I couldn’t make a plan for other options.

This entire experience has been stressful and disappointing.

I have several broken items and the boxes weren’t actually labeled with the correct contents.

Move-out Day Surprise

Read the contract closely!

When move out day arrived, I learned our household goods would be going into storage until the carrier could arrive. In 7 moves, this is the only time this has happened. Every other move has been door to door. This means that my household goods where loaded onto a trailer at my house, unloaded into a warehouse, reloaded back onto a separate trailer, and then unloaded at my new home. The risk of damage is obviously higher.

My household goods were damaged, dirty, or both. Much of obviously from the warehouse.

Now, I must say, we had pictures of our household goods before and after, and we took time to file an extensive claim, and Mayflower did settle that claim properly and honestly.

We paid for packers, and they did a great job. The loaders on move out day also did a great job. The delivery was a bit rushed, and frankly, the driver only hired one helper (out of his pocket), and so more bad news on the delivery. But again, they settled for the damage done.

So the contract is key. They give you a delivery window. That is their "get out of jail free" card. I anticipated a door to door move, and from the estimators consultation, I thought that's what I was going to get. But they were NOT contractually bound to do that (in the fine print), so they didn't.

Also, Mayflower is really Unigroup, a large conglomerate that includes United. Another point on this topic, the local places are more like franchises, they are quasi-independent, so your experiences may vary.

Long-distance move from Dallas, TX to Deerfield Beach, FL

Expect to Pay Thousands Beyond Quote

WARNING! I wanted to provide awareness of what you can expect booking a move through this company. I booked my move over a month in advance. Scheduled for a load date on July 6th with a delivery window from July 10th – to July 15th. Foreshadowing the disaster to come surfaced when they called a couple of days before the load date to say they can’t load on the 6th but will be able to load on the 7th. They assured me multiple times that the delivery window would not be impacted. They require you to be at your destination for the entirety of your delivery window to accept delivery when they arrive. We planned accordingly and booked a couple of hotel rooms at our destination city for the delivery window. We were notified on Tuesday, July 13th that our shipment would arrive at the local hub on Saturday 17th. By Thursday, July 15th the arrival to the hub then moved to Monday the 19th with actual delivery to our new home on Saturday, July 24th, nine days after the end of our delivery window that we were assured would not be compromised. As the delays continued to roll in I figured at a minimum they would be willing to cover our two hotel rooms at $350 a day until our things arrive since they required us to be there by July 10th, however, they would only provide paltry $125. In addition to our hotel costs, I’m forced to buy new clothes for my first week of work as they have all my nice clothes and shoes. My wife is a mental health counselor that sees patients with depression, anxiety, etc. from a home office and is bound by HIPAA regulations that preclude her from working from a hotel room due to privacy. Due to these regulations, she is having to reschedule 6 days’ worth of patients which is lost revenue for her, but the more concerning factor is the disruption of care for patients. This company has no empathy and refuses to do the humane thing after forcing people to arrive for their delivery window stranding people to fend for themselves living out of a hotel until they decide to show up with your belongings. I’ve lost all confidence in this company. Fingers crossed everything shows up on July 24th and intact. If you book with this company plan on spending an additional several thousand dollars on the back end while you wait for your things to arrive. I will update the review after the conclusion of the move to share the unsettling surprises that are yet to come.
