Long-distance move from Indiana to New York

Do not trust anything you are told.

The move itself was fine, but 3 times I asked about the wording of the contract. It said it was a non-binding estimate and I thought they were underestimating our weight (our antique furniture is very heavy - which I told them). Each person I asked had the same answer - an "on point" estimate means you will not be billed more than 110% of the weight. You can be billed for "services" but not extra weight. Well, the estimate was off, by 1000 pounds - 100 off from my unprofessional estimate. And lo and behold we were billed for it. When I called they said that was what the contract meant when it said non-binding (no surprise there). I explained how I was told that "charges for services" above 110% would not include weight. Too bad, so sad was Mayflower's answer, even after 4 phone calls and a 25 minute discussion. The agent (who assured me "services" did not include weight) cannot adjust billing at all. That is solely Mayflower's discretion. So please, feel free to use Mayflower, but DO NOT put stock in anything an agent, a Mayflower estimator, or driver says. Their assurances have no value with Mayflower and their customer service rep will tell you to read your 56 page rights and responsibilities book with more care, even when you have explained repeatedly that you did, but were told by 3 different Mayflower representatives, that your reading was incorrect. For the record, Corrigan had the right estimate. Their rates are higher, but at least their agents know what they are doing.

Do Not Use!

I have recently gone thru Capital City Moving and Mayflower Transit out of Topeka, KS for my move from Kansas to Texas.

My following complaint: I picked this company because the Marketing Sales Rep was very knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help me. The packers were extremely slow and in my opinion, they did not know how to pack properly. They missed numerous items from the bedrooms, I.e. mirrors, toys. They pulled things from other rooms and packed them in boxes that didn't match what was listed on the box. Not all the individual boxes were marked from what room they came from so I had to guess what room they needed to be delivered too. They also did not dissemble my patio furniture like they were suppose too. When the movers/driver showed up the next day, the driver told me that he told the "company" that he would NOT have enough room for all of my stuff and they told him to "get what he could". They only sent out 2 movers for 12,000lbs. By 3pm that day, I still had furniture in the living room and my two car garage was still full (not touched yet) and my patio furniture was still outside not disassembled. Around 4pm, another small truck finally showed up along with 4-5 other movers. I had to disassemble my patio furniture myself because of how slow they were. They ended up having to call for another truck. Needless to say, they finally finished around 6pm that day. It took 3 trucks and about 6-7 movers to DO THIER JOB! My stuff was suppose to be delivered on 2 NOV 10, but only half of my house hold goods has arrived and today is 16 NOV 10. I have made numerous calls to the company and every call is the same "We don't know". My husband is currently in Iraq and he has also made a phone call. Now I am being told that the truck broke down. What a joke this company has turned out to be. My husband and I are both in the Army and this is how we get treated. I will NEVER use this company again. BAD BUSINESS!!

Mayflower Movers are awful!!

Mayflower Movers are the worst company I have ever dealt with. First of all, they did not pack things very well. They put kitchen items in with bathroom, etc. It took me forever to find all of my things. Second, The movers who came to pack our items damaged many of them- including a limited edition guitar that is (was) a collectors item. I even told the guy to be careful with it and instead of listening to me, he wrote all over the box in permanent ink! I immediately told that he ruined the item and he claimed that he would tell his boss about it (yeah right). When I complained about the damage to the guitar, it was just ignored. When we finally received all of our items, we noticed that many were damaged. I called to complain, but was told I had to file a claim. I did so, but the claim was denied. Why? Because even though we purchased the insurance, it did not cover the damages because we put some of our items in storage. Funny, but when I talked to Mayflower about the move and told them that some items were going in storage and some were going to be delivered to our apartment, they did not mention that the insurance would not cover damages that their movers cause. Avoid this company at all costs. They are dishonest and take no responsibility for damages they cause.

Long-distance move from Tennessee to California

Crooked Loading Process.

Over-promised and under delivered. Missed the so called last date of arrival window by 4 days. But the biggest watchout is the packing process. They loaded brand new unopened items on the truck in their original boxes, and then marked on the shipping documents that they were "badly damaged". I didn't realize what they'd done because its all in a code. They marked every item they picked up as badly worn scratched, dented or damaged, some without ever being able to see them (example stretch wrapped rolled up rugs were noted as badly worn. How could they possibly know? Just before they delivered I discovered this and lodged a complaint, to which they replied- Yeah, oh well. The crooked guy is named Gary Mercer from Kingsport TN. He works with the Mayflower group out of Arden, NC .
So when they delivered 18 days later, there is a box missing. Buyer beware. .

Excellent Experience.

I had to move from the US to Germany and had to look for an International moving company. After checking the reviews for many such companys I was totally frustrated, because all of them had horrible comments and ratings, including Mayflower.I did pick Mayflower though because the name is well known.I am happy to say that the move, from beginning to end, was top notch for me.Every single email that I wrote, every questin that I ask, was answered immediatly and in a friendly manner. My shipment arrived on time, everything was there, nothing was broken, nor stolen.I am absolutly satisfied with Mayflowers service and happily recommend them to everyone who is planning on moving. .

Bad experience.

From start to end Mayflower was disappointing. I even wrote to complain after getting limited help through phone calls and they were not truly concerned. This was a total waste of money and I regret the decision to use them. The packing was terrible and I think some of the people were drunk. Boxes were labeled incorrectly. Items arrived dirty and missing pieces. We had to go out and buy parts for dining room table and put it back together ourselves. Poor communication.

Excellent.

I have moved all over the world and 7 times within the USA and I can honestly state that Mayflower are the best company I have ever used. Competative rates, honest, reliable, friendly and very efficient. My goods arrived a day early, all thanks to the great driver Gary, who made the move smooth as could be, he also has a great sense of humor. Nothing was broken, unlike my prior movers. Mike the estimator came out as did estimators from 6 other companies but he was the most professional. If you want a good company then look no further this is it.

Long-distance move from Florida to North Carolina

Worst move ever!

After multiple military moves with little or no damage, this private move from Tampa, FL to Raleigh, NC was the worst ever. It cost over $10,000. and the damage was incredibly ridiculous. Torn, broken items, liquid packed in boxes, and damaged furniture. I had four pages of claim damages with supporting photos and all claims were denied, even though I had 100% coverage. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Long-distance move from Missouri to Washington

Late, Damaged, no communication.

Short story: My shipment was a week late and damaged.Longer story: They packed and picked up my shipment in mid November. Delivery was set for a week later. I was advised I needed to be there to accept the shipment or I would incur extra storage charges. I flew out to make sure I was there on the first possible delivery date and was informed the morning of that the shipment would not arrive until a week and a half later. Turns out they knew that the shipment couldn't get delivered on time before they had picked it up but had neglected to tell me. Even though I was at the destination my belongings were still in a warehouse in the originating city. They knew that once that  my belongings were on the truck on a truck I couldn't do anything and I had to pay in order to get the truck unloaded once it did arrive. Once it was unloaed it was clear my shipment had been loaded and unloaded multiple times enroute. In that process lots of wooden things had been damaged, scraped, etc. This was probably due to the fact they didn't have a driver when they loaded my shipment and had to load and unload it from the trucks to the warehouse and back multiple times.DO yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague. Grabel quoted higher but I regret not going with them. Between the vacation I burned, plane tickets I bought, and nights in the hotel Mayflower cost me 5k more in time and money. Not sure how to monetize stress but probably the 2nd most stressful time in my life.

Mayflower Moving Company.

If I can save anyone from a painful experience, I will by writing this review. What I did not understand was that the man that talks to you, comes to your house to inventory your goods and then estimates the cost of the move is not the man in charge. He is a salesman and once you have signed the paper, you never see or hear from him again. If your belongings are not a full load for the long distance hauler, it is placed in a warehouse until they find a partial load or loads that can be put with your belongings. Your belongings are handled twice or maybe more. Depending on where the other loads are, your goods could be on the top or the bottom. Then the driver picks up a local man to help unload the truck and bring in your items. All my boxes were smashed, goods inside ruined, furniture dented or scratched, items broken and then we were told that it was because we did not use the company to pack things. When I filed a claim an adjuster came out and they offered me a small amount of money, not enough to cover replacement or repair. Just an awful experience which I hope to avoid in the future by packing my own things and driving my own truck. Seriously, I care about my things and clearly they do not.

Do Not Use This Company.

The entire moving process with this company has been a joke. Careless, inconsiderate and not even close to professional only skims the surface. My belongings were treated like garbage. Fragile boxes stacked six high on a hand truck and bounced down a flight of stairs. Unprotected items dragged down the driveway. Items left unprotected out in the rain. The wrong size truck was used so now everything has to be moved to a smaller truck for delivery. And what reassurance do I get that ANYTHING is being handled properly? "We will send you a claim form". I'm afraid to see my belongings if ever they arrive. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE BEYOND AWFUL. I cannot speak to whether or not items were stolen as my delivery is currently being transferred. However photos and videos support carelessness and damage when loading in New York.

Long-distance move from Orlando, FL to Dandridge, TN

Nightmare.

I called Mayflower and this salesman showed up with Mayflower flyers and booklet with Mayflower name and pictures and we signed the contract then the day I was moving out of my house A truck with the name UNITED VAN Lines shows up we were shocked . We were told it is the same company since United Van Lines purchased Mayflower . They put down this dirty filthy floor covers . they did damage most of our furniture when they delivered , they offered us $300.00 dollars even we had a full coverage and the day delivered the only day with rain forecast they would not change the dates or charge you tons of money to store it some where near your house. When they showed up to deliver this one tall guy with a woman like 200 pounds sitting in passenger side doing nothing but watching when we asked where is help? he said the help is is coming from Knoxville Tennessee and he was an hour late showed up saying he had a flat tire. This woman in the passenger was related to tall guy and did nothing but I believe was getting paid and part of the 3 guys were supposed to move the furniture. My furniture was placed into truck by shuffling everything so they can save every inch of space in the truck. Most of my furniture were scratched and dented. They were expensive too I only had bedroom and living room for $4500.00 dollars. From Orlando to Dandridge Tennessee . I was told to prorate my storage fee , they never did ,they overcharged me. I would never use or recommend them it was a nightmare.

If only there was a negative rating.

Every step of this experience has been frustrating. The packing crew didn't wrap items and packed things in a manner which caused many items to break. The movers packed heavy items on lighter ones, causing damage. The unused packing materials were not picked up as said, causing us to delay our departure, costing us money. The inspector walked around with his pants unzipped, rolling his eyes if I attempted to answer questions. The company refuses to give us any copies of their policies or procedures or a timeline for when this may be settled. Months later, and we still haven't seen any reimbursement and can't get anyone to return messages. We tried to work with them, not claiming the minimal damages to either of our homes and only asking for partial reimbursement for our damages. They have not shown us the same respect. I would never allow Mayflower to move us again. Chalk this up to a very expensive lesson on our part. At this rate, I doubt we ever see reimbursement for our items.

Additional Advanced 3rd party Moving charges.

I have binding estimate for an amount including 3rd party services for advanced charges for unhooking & hooking up a washer and dryer at the origin and destination totaling $180.00 (this was included in the total for the move). After the move I got another bill for $92.00. After numerous calls to the company and billing I am told that the they can charge me more now. My complaint is why include it in a binding estimate if they are going to charge you more anyway. It should not be included or this amount should be deducted now from what I already paid. So this is deceiving. I had additional charges for storage which I don't dispute.

Long-distance move from Missouri to Washington

Communication.

Load was picked up in Lees Summit MO May 30.  Contract stated a 5-15 day delivery window, also listed British Columbia as the delivery terminal (I moved 20 miles south of the border).  On June 6 they called to say there would be a delay of about a week.  I'm sleeping in a cabin on the floor, had to buy warm clothes at a thrift store, getting antsy for my stuff, so I called the MO office on June 8, they said they'd check into it.  Today June 11 I called the BC terminal.  A very nice man said they gave me the wrong info & he was not involved in the move at all.  I called MO again & they said my stuff will be delivered by June 21 & they have no idea where it is right now, "it's on the way".  Next big move will be in a freakin' U-Haul. .

Long-distance move from Oklahoma to Utah

Horrible Service.

First, let me say that everyone at Mayflower Moving Company/United Van Lines that I have talked to has been friendly.  But that is about all of the "great customer service" that I have experienced.  My move has been a complete nightmare.  My goods were picked up on May 26th, 2012 with a delivery spread between June 1-June 11 with a preferred date of June 1 when moving from Oklahoma City, OK to Salt Lake City, UT.  Today it is June 15th and my shipment is STILL in Oklahoma City and NO ONE from my move coordinator to customer service can give me a date of when my shipment will even be leaving OK.    I have talked with customer service many times and called my moving coordinator almost every day.  On 4 different occasions I was promised phone calls to give me an update that never were made.  Every day I call to ask when in the world my transport will be leaving Oklahoma City and every day i'm told more or less, "we don't know."    Finally, on June 9th, to expedite our move, we were told that our shipment would be packed into shipping crates which would then come directly to Salt Lake city.  Today it is a full week later and our stuff may or may not be packed into the crates today.  Again, no one can give me a straight answer.  We were told that as soon as our stuff was packed up, the goods would be shipped IMMEDIATELY (emphasis was given by the company) to Utah.  However, I just got off the phone today with our move coordinator who said that our belongings are scheduled to arrive some time between June 20-23rd, which is somewhere between 5 days and 8 days from the day our stuff is supposed to be crated for an "expedited move."  I drove to Salt Lake City 2 weeks ago from OKC and it takes 18 hours, not 5-8 days.    I am so frustrated with the service and lack of answers from Mayflower that I wanted to fly home and U-haul my goods myself, which they said they wouldn't allow because of liability.  I even began calling other van lines to try to get them to come pick it up.  I am beyone frustrated at this point.  I WILL NEVER use mayflower again and I WILL NEVER suggest them to anyone trying to move!!

Long-distance move from Georgia to Kansas

After you are done with the salesman, got-ya is the theme.

Business:  The company hires local tow trucks to drop off and pick up your container.  Container is not handled horizontally, so your stuff will be badly shifted around upon pickup and drop off.
Container: Very cheap. Could have paid $100 with another company and got a better sturdier container.
Pickup: Inexperiences tow truck driver, who seemed experienced with towing cars.  Made a mess in front of the home, oil and tire marks.
Scheduling Delivery: primosed 4-6 business days, but got 10 b-days, not including day I called on. Delivery: Holding my breath, but hope that all goes well on the promised delivery date of June 30, 2012.  Based on other reviews, I will be lucky if I got by year end.

Could Not Have Been Worse.

My cross county moving experience with Mayflower literally could not have been worse. This is a terrible company, with appaling customer service. It started with little mistakes and got worse and worse. 1. The salesperson showed up at the wrong time for the initial evaulation. 2. My credit card was charged without notice, after having been told I would be notified two days in advance as it was a charge for thousands of dollars. 3. Day of the move I had a very tight schedule as I was heading to the airport that evening. My pick-up was scheduled 8-10am, which I was told was always when this happened. I called at 9am for an ETA and thank god, because ONLY THEN did I learn my pick-up time had been changed, without a single word to me, to 2-4pm. ONLY because I called early and ONLY because I made a huge deal did they manage to get to my place around noon. I was extremely rushed and barely got to the airport in time for my flight. 4. I never received a single communication from them after that. At some point a "latest expected delivery date" appeared on my online file and I eagerly awaited the two days prior phone call I had been promised. Finally, I started calling, and received no responses to countless messages, and nothing but weird excuses and misinformation when I actually spoke to someone. The local office had no idea where my shipment was and it took one decent person to walk down to the warehouse and physically find it. All because the idiotic people at Mayflower had not entered it into the system. Basically, if I had not called, and called, and called, and called ad nausem, I am pretty sure all my belongings would have disappeared forever, with Mayflower making excuses the entire time. 5. When my stuff FINALLY arrived I was pretty upset with the condition. Solid wood pieces of furniture were banged up and busted and the boxes were crushed. 6. Post my late delivery, I STILL cannot get this company to respond to me. I called the day after a claim for broken items and late delivery, was promised a call the next day, and well, it's been four days since then. In response to complaints I've been told it's not their fault they were late (clearly was), I was never promised notice (I was), and a number of other lies.   Hands down, this is the worst company you could go with so stay far away. The customer service is so bad as to be fraudulent and there is no communication or respect for customers and the intense stress of moving cross country.

Long-distance move from Kansas to Texas

Worst ever! Lost all my family pictures and they could care less!

Moved from Wichita KS to Denton TX. Not only did they reschedule my furniture delivery to Texas twice, they left over 20 boxes and several pieces if furniture items back in Wichita, which meant they had to make a second delivery which they again rescheduled twice. Some furniture had dings and scratches on it but to make matters worse, they lost a large clear Rubbermaid tote containing pictures that have been taken over the last 30 years! My childrens childhood pictures were in that container! they marked it with a red ticket numbered 405. I've called Wichita Kansas and asked for the manager, Mike, to call me numerous times and still never hear from him! I called again today and he answered the phone so he had to talk to me. I asked him why he never called me and his answer is they haven't found them. I asked him How do you expect to find something you are not looking for? He had told me when this all started that he would contact me every couple weeks to update me on the search, not once has he called. When my first delivery was made I found a box that didn't belong to us. The box had business cards in it so I contacted the owner of the box and was able to make sure it got back to her. Had I not done this she would still probably be waiting for them to find it too. These pictures are not replaceable. They are my children's childhood memories on film. Would never recommend Mayflower moving company to my friends. I've had many moves as both a military child and a military wife. All total over 40 years spent moving in the military and this is hands down the worst move ever.

Avoid at All Cost!!

The absolute worst moving experience I have encountered. (I have used their competitors with positive experiences). The actual quote left out many eventual costs and was COMPLETELY DISHONEST! The movers showed up 8 hours late, items were damaged in transit. Services I had negotiated were not performed without an additional fee. Actual costs far exceeded their quote and agreement. Completely miserable experience, I feel like fraud and dishonesty is a credo this company operates under. AVOID AT ALL COST!!

Horrible experience; Damaged furniture and household items - no reply.

My husband and I are so disappointed with the quality of the move. Since we have finished unpacking, we have found numerous items broken and most irreparable. A one of a kind sculpture has a busted foot; our crystal chandelier is broken; many pieces of irreplaceable/collectible furniture are dented and in some cases deeply scratched; our Dyson vacuum cleaner has gashes in the base; and, many other pieces of furniture have either some part missing or dented; and, even lawn equipment damaged. Not to mention that we still can't find some items and we only have 3 boxes left to unpack (and they are too small to hold the items we are looking for). But the most upsetting, was my daughter's height chart marking her growth since she was born that someone removed from a table top, threw away and not only didn't ask us if they could remove it, but didn't even tell us they removed it and threw it away.

We paid a large amount of money to ensure the move would be as seamless as possible, and that our possessions would be handled with care and respect. .

Long-distance move from Illinois to Florida

Worst possible moving company to choose. Stay away from false promises.

I wish there was a Zero or negative star rating to choose. A well known company and best rated by BBB is not very promising. I have booked my move on May 22nd and my stuff was packed and loaded on Mayflower(mayflower Dodge) Moving truck on June 18th, 2014. We are moving from Swansea, IL(Suburbs of St. Louis) to Clermont, Florida.Today it's July7th, but no idea when they will deliver it. I was given dates for delivery from June 23rd through June 28th. They packed it all in one truck and the loading crew told me it's only our stuff so it should rather be quicker. We were supposed to be assigned a driver for our truck on the date of loading the truck which obviously never happened. Tried to contact many a people and Mayflower Customer care but they kept saying they don't have a driver and can't help it. They still have same answer what they had 20 days ago. We are living in Florida waiting for our truck to arrive since June 23rd. No idea when will they deliver our stuff. Also the inconvenience is far greater than what it seems theoretically. They are supposed to give us $100/day after June 28 onwards for delay but that's nothing in comparison to our frustration, loss of work days, Financial losses etc. I am just wishing that I should have driven my own stuff by Budget/U-haul truck etc.PLEASE DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY FOR MOVING. Otherwise you may regret it.PLEASE DON'T CHOOSE MAYFLOWER EVER.

Still waiting--with NO answers!

Currently in the middle of a terrible moving experience with Arrow Moving and Mayflower. Not only have our belongings been sitting inside a truck for over two weeks and still have not left SLC, but now we are beyond the delivery window and we still have not been given any indication as to why this is or when to expect delivery. We booked this move over a month ago and would never have used this company had we known they were too busy to find a driver for our things. Please have more respect for your customers and handle your own logistics so that you can keep your promises and at the very least provide the most basic level of information when you cannot. Our customer service representative seems 'very sorry' for our inconvenience but is providing no answers or forecasts for the situation at all. We are told they 'can't find a driver' which is inconceivable to me. It costs way more than $100 a day to house and feed a family every day and I feel their lack of information displays a complete disregard for us and our needs. The bottom line is that we are waiting for them to combine our load with others just to save them $$, at our great expense. .
