Long-distance move from California to Florida

Driver's lack of communication cost us.

Mayflower moved our two bedroom condo across the country.  The driver failed to communicate as promised.  He showed up in a huge van that could not enter the condo complex.  We had told him in advance, and if he had called as he should, we could have reminded him. He had to drive 20 miles north to offload our delivery.  In the process he failed to offload a standing brass lamp.  The loading agent admitted it was on board, and we did get the lampshade.  When we notice it was not delivered, we were to that it had been disassembled and was in a box.  It was not.  I believe the driver failed to offload it to the smaller truck and was too tired to drive the 20 miles back and forth. We filed a claim with Mayflower.  It was denied by BRETT RAPPS of the CUSTOMER CLAIMS DEPT. on the basis that we did not object in writing at the time of delivery that the lamp was missing, in other words we signed the acceptance of delivery form without making any exceptions.
MY ADVICE: IF YOU USE MAYFLOWER, THEN MAKE THE DELIVERY CREW STAND AROUND WHILE YOU OPEN EVERY BOX AND CHECK OFF EVERY ITEM ON THE INVENTORY CONTROL FORM.  THE DELIVERY CREW ALWAYS WANT TO LEAVE ONCE THE BOXES AND FURNITURE HAVE BEEN DELIVERED - BUT DON'T LET THEM, OTHERWISE YOU WILL END UP LIKE US, CLAIM DENIED BY BRETT RAPPS!

Long-distance move from Minnesota to Florida

Mayflower Moving Company.

If I can save anyone from a painful experience, I will by writing this review. What I did not understand was that the man that talks to you, comes to your house to inventory your goods and then estimates the cost of the move is not the man in charge. He is a salesman and once you have signed the paper, you never see or hear from him again. If your belongings are not a full load for the long distance hauler, it is placed in a warehouse until they find a partial load or loads that can be put with your belongings. Your belongings are handled twice or maybe more. Depending on where the other loads are, your goods could be on the top or the bottom. Then the driver picks up a local man to help unload the truck and bring in your items. All my boxes were smashed, goods inside ruined, furniture dented or scratched, items broken and then we were told that it was because we did not use the company to pack things. When I filed a claim an adjuster came out and they offered me a small amount of money, not enough to cover replacement or repair. Just an awful experience which I hope to avoid in the future by packing my own things and driving my own truck. Seriously, I care about my things and clearly they do not.

Long-distance move from Orlando, FL to Dandridge, TN

Nightmare.

I called Mayflower and this salesman showed up with Mayflower flyers and booklet with Mayflower name and pictures and we signed the contract then the day I was moving out of my house A truck with the name UNITED VAN Lines shows up we were shocked . We were told it is the same company since United Van Lines purchased Mayflower . They put down this dirty filthy floor covers . they did damage most of our furniture when they delivered , they offered us $300.00 dollars even we had a full coverage and the day delivered the only day with rain forecast they would not change the dates or charge you tons of money to store it some where near your house. When they showed up to deliver this one tall guy with a woman like 200 pounds sitting in passenger side doing nothing but watching when we asked where is help? he said the help is is coming from Knoxville Tennessee and he was an hour late showed up saying he had a flat tire. This woman in the passenger was related to tall guy and did nothing but I believe was getting paid and part of the 3 guys were supposed to move the furniture. My furniture was placed into truck by shuffling everything so they can save every inch of space in the truck. Most of my furniture were scratched and dented. They were expensive too I only had bedroom and living room for $4500.00 dollars. From Orlando to Dandridge Tennessee . I was told to prorate my storage fee , they never did ,they overcharged me. I would never use or recommend them it was a nightmare.

No Communication. Deny and Ignore Tactics.

Saturday delivery.  Dropped first 2 pieces.  Did not reassemble. Just wanted to get it over with.  Dragged feet on sending someone out to assess damages.  Then had to call them back out.  Then they claimed they lost file and photos.  Next stated that it was past claim date.  Never made complete offer. Deny  and ignore tactics.  Turned over to Corporate where a Ms. Julie Rohr stated that she would expedite in 15 days.  She constantly ignores all communication.  Has been another 15 weeks.  Now over 2 years and no solution.   DO NOT use Mayflower.  They have absolutely the worst Customer Service.  You pay extra for full replacement.  You have to go thru hoops to define high-value items and then they "respectfully" deny everything.  Theyshave no scruples whatsoever.  They do not treat you as a valued customer.   We have moved over 20 times.  Mayflower is bottom of the barrel.  STAY AWAY.

Local move within Virginia

Very Dishonest in Quote and Resolving Problem.

I had used Mayflower before in an interstate move from Central N.Y. to Virginia that went very well so decided to use them again, though this time through a local moving franchise, on a local move. Joe Moholland's Movers were incredibly dishonest. I had informed the salesman no less than 3 times that the move to the new location would be to a third floor condo with no elevator. He also knew on the initial visit that my apartment was on the fourth floor with no elevator. The movers acted all surprised when they arrived at the apartment and then stated they would need to charge hundreds more because of the stairs at the apartment and at the moving location. After a rather unpleasant conversation with their dispatcher at the office, I "negotiated" a rather poor deal for me simply because I needed to be out of my former residence during that week. The move cost me several hundreds more than quoted despite the salesman having all the information about the move. The movers themselves were fine, but I would never use a franchise with such dishonest salespersons. I felt like the information provided was purposely ignored or miscommunicated by the company in order to increase the price on the day of the move.

Long-distance move from Washington to New York

Still Waiting..

Seattle > NYC move began with local agent, Crown Moving, that was helpful, timely and professional. However once in the hands of Mayflower the move fell off schedule. Today was the last day in the moving estimate, yet my stuff is still multiple days away.

By their policy I'm not entitled to per diem compensation because my stuff is "under 3500 pounds." looks like I'm not the only delayed customer. Don't these people realize that moving is at the time of key transitions in people's lives (new jobs) and that dropping the ball on customers makes our lives more stressful and difficult? And we pay for this service.!

I may check into a hotel at my own expense to avoid another weekend without the basic necessities Mayflower has taken hostage.

Military Move.

POOR and UNPROFESSIONAL!! The packers didn't pack all the items. We were missing the top part of our food processor (top, bowl and blade) and a large stuffed eeyore that my father got me before he passed away was stolen. We had items that were broken because they weren't wrapped properly. Tools and greasy items were placed in a box of blankets. The blankets are ruined. The packers laughed a 2 year old crying and took extremely long breaks!

Long-distance move from Oregon to Kansas

Overall Move.

My move from Oregon to Kansas with Mayflower and its associates was terrible at best. The driver showed up Late on Aug 18th, and was aware that he would not be able to take all my furniture on his truck. They started loading at 11AM and finished filling his truck at 10:30 PM at that time they were only able to get 82% of my goods on the truck (total load was 16,100 Lbs). They put the 18% back in my garage and then picked this stuff up on the 19th, to ship. Bottom line is I finally received the remaining portion of my shipment on September 15th, a full 15 days after their contracted obligation of August 30th as the final delivery date. Mayflower disallowed my claim for delay of delivery because they said it does not apply to overflow. There was no effort that I could see on the part of Mayflower or its affiliates to live up to the full letter of the contract. I caution any one using Mayflower to be aware of this organization. I will never use them again nor will any one in my company. They do not care about you and hide behind any thing they can to avoid doing the right thing.

Thieves!!

After 3 moves with my company and this being the first with Mayflower I can say this has been the absolute WORST!!. The crew that showed up to pack were late, unprofessional, and incompetent to say the least. Once our household goods arrived we found numerous broken items including a brand new front load washer and over $3000 worth of personal belongings that were stolen. 6 weeks later we are still fighting with them over the claim and I will NEVER use them again. We found out from the crew that unloaded our stuff (good guys) that our stuff had been unloaded in a warehouse (unsecured) for 4 weeks then reloaded on another truck. If it's not frustrating enough to have your stuff broken and stolen, having the claim department make it miserable for you to try and recoup what they owe you is just cruel. Once again I say the WORST company ever!!

Long-distance move from Washington to Utah

Damaged furniture.

When movers arrived at our home, they were ill prepared and lacked quanity and quality of packaging materials. They relied upon us to provide boxes and packaging materials. Two large mirrors, which required crating, were wrapped in paper and flimsy cardboard. The frames of both of these mirrors were discovered broken after we unwrappped them after movers left. Before movers left, I noticed that the back of one of the dining room chairs was broken. When I pointed this out to one of the moversm he suggested that I could glue it back together. As my wife and I began to place the furniture we discovered more and more damage. At this point we contacted a furniture restoration co. (Jacobsen Restoration and Art (150 W. 1400 S. Salt Lake City, UT. Phone: 801-486-6331. One of owners of the company did a thorough examination of the damaged furniture and gave us a extimate of $2760. Mayflower denied this claim and issued a check for $387 as this was 60 cents per pound per the insurance amt. my wife had been forced to indicate as no other options were available in the on line form. My wife had concerns about the lack of options and expressed them to Jan Parsons. Ms. Parsons was not able to offer any other options through the internet. When the drivers arrived, I signed the 60 cent per lb. agreement not realizing that I had another option at that point. Also not having checked with consumer reports, I had no idea that Mayflower is ranked lowest in the moving business. My attempts to have a Mayflower rep. or damage estimator to come and check the damages was met with rudeness and indifferece by the various people I spoke to at the Mayflower Corp. offices. The last person I spoke to hung up on me. What a way to run a company! The restoration company has documented all the extensive damage and took photos. I hope that no other people ever have to go through what my wife and I are going through. Note, my wife is phyically handicapped and I'm 73 years old.

Long-distance move from Oregon to Kansas

The Move from Hell.

We moved from Bend, Oregon to Manhattan, KS. I solicited 4 bids prior to making the move and Mayflower while not the lowest seemed to be the best option at the time.
Upon selecting the bid working with the agent Klamath falls Moving and storage was an experience in itself, poor or no communication from the company to me. I finally had to contact Mayflower corporate and then I would receive some communication.

Move day came we have 16,000 lbs of goods and they only sent 3 people to load two were good one was usless, the driver showed up late and they began to load at 11:AM on August 18th, at 10:30PM I was told all my goods would not fit on the truck because the driver picked up a previous load that was 3,500 lbs over the estimate. Creating an overflow for my goods.

Long story short it took 29 days for me to receve all my goods, Mayflower rejected my clam for delayed delivery because they said overflow is not covered. I was not responsible for the overflow this was totally caused by Mayflower. Bottom line My invoice was wrong I had to get this corrected, I was billed 110% and they worked off my money for over a month before finally correcting the invoice, I was living with partial good for almost a month. The help loading and unloading was terrible.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU THEY ONLY DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THEM NOT YOU.

Long-distance move from Florida to Washington

Horrible.

The move started with a slick talking salesman whose assertions never were true. The movers were in a hurry and cared less. They packed things where ever they wanted so locating them was a nightmare. Then we found some other person's box in our shipment. The biggest problem is that Mayflower uses independent companies all over the US. When we tried to resolve the problems here in WA they wanted nothing to do with us. I would highly recommend that consumers stay away from Mayflower..they talk a good game but deliver the worse service.

This company is below poor. Over the past 20 years we have moved many times and have never had thi.

My husband had just retired and this was our final move. We have moved numerous times over the 20 years (which includes going overseas) and have NEVER had a moving experience like this. Out items were delivered (after being held over 180 days) and before the driver could get off the truck with one box he was already telling me about things that were completely broken (like a complete entertainment center, another one where the glass was completely shattered, broken arms on our dining room chair, etc). Although I was trying my best to remain positive - this set a very bad tone for the move because he then tells me that "several months ago the military did a surprise inspection and they decided to look at our storage area - which turned out that they had misplaced almost 20 BOXES!! How could this happen? We waited for months (because I wanted my items back) before we filed a claim. Just this morning (while at the very last stages of our claim)we find out that the company that takes care of their claims (O'Neil Relocation in Garden Grove, CA) went OUT OF BUSINESS and didn't let anyone know. I have tried to contact them for well over a week and have been getting a fast busy sound to the main number and (by accident) I just decided to contact another company that works with them United Van Lines and they verified for me they were out of business.

If they can't treat a retired military family right (who served almost 28 years in the military) - what do you think they will do with your items. We honestly would have done better doing this move ourselves. Don't waste your time or your money on this company.

Moving.

THIEVES! They picked up our household and packed it into crates which, we were told, would house our property until moved. WE LATER FOUND OUT EVERYTHING WAS OPENED AND UNLOADED WITHIN DAYS OF PICK-UP. Our property was in storage for 5 months. When delivered to our Ca. location I tried to count the boxes as unloaded but they kept going in different doors and, when I was distracted with one mover, the others would dump boxes where I hadn't counted them.
FINALLY UNPACKED NOW, WE ARE MISSING A TON OF STUFF. (BROKEN THINGS AS WELL.) EVERYTHING FROM TOOLS TO COOKWARE TO CRYSTAL. YARD TOOLS AND FRAMED PICTURES.
AWFUL AND HEARTBREAKING! FORGET THIS COMPANY!

No Show for Estimation.

I scheduled a time for an estimator to come to my house. I was given a time and date. The agent also told me to re-confirm the appointment a few days before the scheduled date. I did exactly that. They informed me that I was confirmed for the time and date we had agreed upon.
When the date arrived..no one showed up. I called the office. One person told me I was not in their system. Another person said I was in the system and apologized for the no-show.
I cancelled all further action with Mayflower. If they cannot keep a date for an inspection of the furniture and give an estimation, I can only imagine what might have happened had I scheduled a move.

A month to deliver, no communication.

Mayflower was $1k less than any other carrier. Now we no why. Once the estimate was given, it was nearly impossible to communicate with the company. Calls weren't returned, updates were not given and half of our stuff won't even be delivered until a MONTH from the original pick-up date, because they underestimated the space requirement from the start.

Ironically, one of the higher estimates was from United. Our "Mayflower" driver showed up in a United truck, so I have no confidence that they would be any different at all. What I can say is that for $7,000, you'd think a phone call letting their customers know where their stuff is would not be too much to ask.

The one bright spot was our driver, Jerry. He was professional, careful with the half of our stuff he was responsible for, and a great communicator. I hope they pay him twice what he's worth.

Long-distance move from New York to Texas

Mayflower Movers.

I recently used Mayflower's services to move from NYC to Austin, and let me tell you, it was the WORST experience of my life. I had paid A LOT of extra money to get my belongings to Austin on August 4th, which I signed a guaranteed contract, and it did not show up. When it didn't show up, I called into Mayflower, and they told me the earliest it would get there is August 11th. When were they planning on letting me know this? Why did I have to call them? I was out of town until August 15th, so clearly that would not work, and they told me I would have to pay extra for storage until the 15th! What kind of company breaks guarantees and gouges their customers for extra money like this? A guarantee means guaranteed, 100%, so I'm pretty sure Mayflower has no idea what a guarantee is they just use the word to dupe customers. I am extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with my mayflower experience and I recommend you go with another moving company!

Amateur hour at the Apolo.

The pickup was well planed an executed. Ahead of time there were signs out to block a parking location. The packers took special care to pack all of my items well. I had a one off item that was given extra attention to ensure it would make the trip ok, a little engineering was involved.

The drop off, I get a call friday saying my stuff WILL be delivered Saturday between 9 and 11. Awesome, so I book a flight back to see my wife before she goes to Mexico for 2 months. Expensive ticket but it's worth it.

I get a call AFTER 11 o'clock on Saturday, to let me know the truck won't make it to my location, it's too large. Oh, and there is an "Agent" to do the small street deliveries, but the closed at 11. So we don't know what to do. The "coordinator" then calls me to let me know the "Agent" will be busy till Wed. This by the way is like 3 days past the end of the period where my stuff was supposed to get dropped off. Now I lose the ticket I just purchased and have to spend an additional 5 days sleeping on the floor.

From where I set, it would seem that I could have gotten the same level of service if I had just hired 4 guys and a U-Haul. This is supposed to be a large company, the idea is they do all of the planning so I don't have to. Oh and the final kicker, I was told there was "No way to know the truck wouldn't fit.". That I do not believe. What about the "Agents" they have in the area, these guys don't know? They have no national resources they can use?

Awful experience! Stolen Items!

So we went with Mayflower because we were told they were reputable and well-known. We agreed that we would pay their higher rates for the security behind the name. BOY WERE WE WRONG!

My wife began unpacking her wardrobe boxes yesterday and come to find out that 30-40% of her clothing is missing. Not the basic stuff, they took only the Ralph Lauren, Chanel, and teh expensive things. They knew exactly what they were after. Upon closer inspection of the boxes, we noticed that many of them had been opened and carefully resealed. The reason it was easy for us to tell was because all of our boxes were brand new and not reused. We could see tears from the old tape and though they did their best to resale them, it was obvious.
Needless to sat that we are devastated and have filed a claim with Mayflower. I hope that this will save someone else from being violated the way we were.

Do not trust anything you are told.

The move itself was fine, but 3 times I asked about the wording of the contract. It said it was a non-binding estimate and I thought they were underestimating our weight (our antique furniture is very heavy - which I told them). Each person I asked had the same answer - an "on point" estimate means you will not be billed more than 110% of the weight. You can be billed for "services" but not extra weight. Well, the estimate was off, by 1000 pounds - 100 off from my unprofessional estimate. And lo and behold we were billed for it. When I called they said that was what the contract meant when it said non-binding (no surprise there). I explained how I was told that "charges for services" above 110% would not include weight. Too bad, so sad was Mayflower's answer, even after 4 phone calls and a 25 minute discussion. The agent (who assured me "services" did not include weight) cannot adjust billing at all. That is solely Mayflower's discretion. So please, feel free to use Mayflower, but DO NOT put stock in anything an agent, a Mayflower estimator, or driver says. Their assurances have no value with Mayflower and their customer service rep will tell you to read your 56 page rights and responsibilities book with more care, even when you have explained repeatedly that you did, but were told by 3 different Mayflower representatives, that your reading was incorrect. For the record, Corrigan had the right estimate. Their rates are higher, but at least their agents know what they are doing.

Do Not Use!

I have recently gone thru Capital City Moving and Mayflower Transit out of Topeka, KS for my move from Kansas to Texas.

My following complaint: I picked this company because the Marketing Sales Rep was very knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help me. The packers were extremely slow and in my opinion, they did not know how to pack properly. They missed numerous items from the bedrooms, I.e. mirrors, toys. They pulled things from other rooms and packed them in boxes that didn't match what was listed on the box. Not all the individual boxes were marked from what room they came from so I had to guess what room they needed to be delivered too. They also did not dissemble my patio furniture like they were suppose too. When the movers/driver showed up the next day, the driver told me that he told the "company" that he would NOT have enough room for all of my stuff and they told him to "get what he could". They only sent out 2 movers for 12,000lbs. By 3pm that day, I still had furniture in the living room and my two car garage was still full (not touched yet) and my patio furniture was still outside not disassembled. Around 4pm, another small truck finally showed up along with 4-5 other movers. I had to disassemble my patio furniture myself because of how slow they were. They ended up having to call for another truck. Needless to say, they finally finished around 6pm that day. It took 3 trucks and about 6-7 movers to DO THIER JOB! My stuff was suppose to be delivered on 2 NOV 10, but only half of my house hold goods has arrived and today is 16 NOV 10. I have made numerous calls to the company and every call is the same "We don't know". My husband is currently in Iraq and he has also made a phone call. Now I am being told that the truck broke down. What a joke this company has turned out to be. My husband and I are both in the Army and this is how we get treated. I will NEVER use this company again. BAD BUSINESS!!

Mayflower Movers are awful!!

Mayflower Movers are the worst company I have ever dealt with. First of all, they did not pack things very well. They put kitchen items in with bathroom, etc. It took me forever to find all of my things. Second, The movers who came to pack our items damaged many of them- including a limited edition guitar that is (was) a collectors item. I even told the guy to be careful with it and instead of listening to me, he wrote all over the box in permanent ink! I immediately told that he ruined the item and he claimed that he would tell his boss about it (yeah right). When I complained about the damage to the guitar, it was just ignored. When we finally received all of our items, we noticed that many were damaged. I called to complain, but was told I had to file a claim. I did so, but the claim was denied. Why? Because even though we purchased the insurance, it did not cover the damages because we put some of our items in storage. Funny, but when I talked to Mayflower about the move and told them that some items were going in storage and some were going to be delivered to our apartment, they did not mention that the insurance would not cover damages that their movers cause. Avoid this company at all costs. They are dishonest and take no responsibility for damages they cause.

Crooked Loading Process.

Over-promised and under delivered. Missed the so called last date of arrival window by 4 days. But the biggest watchout is the packing process. They loaded brand new unopened items on the truck in their original boxes, and then marked on the shipping documents that they were "badly damaged". I didn't realize what they'd done because its all in a code. They marked every item they picked up as badly worn scratched, dented or damaged, some without ever being able to see them (example stretch wrapped rolled up rugs were noted as badly worn. How could they possibly know? Just before they delivered I discovered this and lodged a complaint, to which they replied- Yeah, oh well. The crooked guy is named Gary Mercer from Kingsport TN. He works with the Mayflower group out of Arden, NC .
So when they delivered 18 days later, there is a box missing. Buyer beware. .

Excellent Experience.

I had to move from the US to Germany and had to look for an International moving company. After checking the reviews for many such companys I was totally frustrated, because all of them had horrible comments and ratings, including Mayflower.I did pick Mayflower though because the name is well known.I am happy to say that the move, from beginning to end, was top notch for me.Every single email that I wrote, every questin that I ask, was answered immediatly and in a friendly manner. My shipment arrived on time, everything was there, nothing was broken, nor stolen.I am absolutly satisfied with Mayflowers service and happily recommend them to everyone who is planning on moving. .
