Imperial Moving and Storage

My wife and I moved 3 weeks ago. We were in a 1 bedroom apartment and moved into a two bedroom since we are expecting an addition to our family. We reached out to 3 companies in total because we didn’t want to go crazy comparing too many quotes. My friend recommended Imperial moving so I called them up. We received a reasonable quote which included 3 men and for about full day worth of work. We needed packing service because I didn’t have time and my wife was like 9 months pregnant so she obviously couldn’t move. We had an estimator come by and Russell from Imperial Moving provided a Flat Rate price which included packing materials, packing service and the move itself. Our total price was $2100.

At first, we thought it was a bit high for one bedroom. But when I received the other two quotes I realized all three quotes were around the same price. Since my friend recommended Imperial Moving, I decided just to move forward with them, even though they were $200 more than one other quote. I must say, we were actually very happy with the complete service. My wife was so thankful she didn’t have to do anything to prepare in advance.

Imperial suggested we allow them two days to complete the move. But I explained to them I couldn’t take a second day off of work and I didn’t want my wife to be alone when the movers were here to pack. Russell explained that my management might not allow us to work in the building for too long. I spoke to my super and management afterwards regarding the restrictions. Management wanted us to be out by 5 Pm. But my super was great, he agreed to stay a bit longer if needed until the movers left the building. Luckily, we moved into a brownstone and didn’t have any restriction at the drop off end. So the move was able to be completed in one day. It was long but we had to work with it.

Earl and his team was phenomenal! They were in brooklyn by 9 am ready to go. I used to live on Ocean Parkway and Newkirk, if you know the area you know how difficult it is to find parking on the service road. But they were early so they got lucky and found parking front of the building - which made the situation so much more easier.

I took this time to write this review because moving is not easy. Getting quotes, approvals from your building and finding a trust worthy company takes a lot of time and can be stressful. The company that you choose have a lot of responsibilities because they are in charge of your valuables. I can understand the pressure these guys are in, especially when They move items like piano or a really expensive painting. There’s a high liability involved. However, my wife and I were very pleased on how careful the team was. They’re attention and information on how certain items should be packed really surprised me because we had no idea on anything. This is our first time moving. When we first moved into the apartment two years ago, we bought everything brand new. We only had our suitcases when we came in.

If you’re looking for a reliable and reasonably priced company please do yourself a favor and contact Imperial Moving. The office staff is highly professional and will provide information that you may not even know you needed - which is very important.

Don’t trust them!
The salesperson Sarah was very nice and accommodating. She gave me a great price and answered all my detailed questions very professionally (the breakdown of the cost, how much they charge for each piece of furniture etc). I clarified five times that the price wouldn’t change the day of the move (as is done many times by companies) so she wrote in the contract “flat rate based on inventory” and assured me it wouldn’t change.
I called them a few days after they took my belongings (before they arrived) and asked to confirm that I only owe the second half of what we agreed upon (you pay half the day they pick up) and they told me I owed an additional $800! I asked why they said they’ll send me a breakdown, they never did! I told them don’t arrive until you explain to me why your overcharging me, they never sent me an explanation.
The day the movers arrived they wouldn’t unload until I paid them the extra money so they spent 4 hours in front of my house while the company (maya) tried figuring out how they got to the extra price and finally they said they’ll do me a “favor” and give me a discount of $400 so they’ll only overcharge me $400!
So dishonest! Don’t use them if you don’t want to get screwed over!!

DO NOT HIRE: WHEN THE MOVERS DEMAND EXTRA MONEY ON THE AT THE END OF THE MOVE, DO NOT PAY. ONLY PAY WHATS ON YOUR CONTRACT. I DID NOT PAY THE EXTRA THEY WERE DEMANDING AND THEY NEVER FOLLOWED UP ABOUT IT. THE OFFICE CONFIRMED THAT I ONLY OWED WHAT WAS ON THE CONTRACT.

After the job was completed the movers were DEMANDING hundreds of extra dollars. They told me they knew nothing of our contract or my sales rep in the Imperial office. I literally could not get them to leave my apartment unless I paid extra $$. After an hour of arguing I finally got them out. It got a little worrisome when I couldn’t get them to leave my apartment. The main guy was scribbling numbers and calculations of why I owed them extra and his sidekick was laughing in the corner. This was a beyond appalling and HORRIBLE experience with your company.

Needless to say the way they packed my boxes was sloppy and unorganized.

This was HIGHLY unprofessional and appalling.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1685

Much like gyms subsist on folks with memberships that have more intention than will to go, Imperial Movers relies on under-staffing jobs so that they can charge more. For my late-March move, I was allocated 3 gentlemen to move from my storage unit into my one-bedroom apartment in an elevatored building. They were slow to get out of my storage unit, and the porter of the facility had to help. Once at my building, one guy disappeared. So as not to drag the move on forever and into additional $100s, I took his place. I believe he sat in the truck while the two dudes and myself busted ass, which was absurd. Their customer service was nil once they were paid, the salesman that locked in the "deal" was nowhere to be found after the transaction.This was not the experience I was looking for. I neither recommend nor will use this company again.

DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS. THEY ARE SCAMMERS WHO WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY! I wish I could give them negative stars. Here's what happened: I got an initial quote from a guy named Daniel for $960 for my pack and move from NYC to CT. He told me via email that it was a FLAT RATE which included everything. I confirmed this with him several times. I also called and told them I had some items to be discarded and confirmed the small extra cost for that.

Flash forward to my move day, the movers come and are pissed they have to pack the apartment and dispose of those items because no one told them about that. Umm.. what? We didn't even have that much stuff and had packed most of our clothes already. When the move is finished, it's after the office is closed and the foreman tells me my TOTAL IS OVER $2700. The guys refuse to leave until I pay them that amount and I had a 2 month old baby so I needed these big scary dudes to leave. They told me we could call and "get a refund." Ok sure.

So I end up speaking with some horrible guy named Roy in their complaints department who offers me a $200 refund after accusing me several times of having "more stuff" which I certainly did not. What a joke. Eventually after numerous complaints to them and the BBB I get that offer raised to $600, but then he stops responding to my emails. They owe me over $1500 and refuse to even come close to that number.

I understand Daniel's quote was wrong from the beginning, but that is their problem, not mine. I am going to continue to fight this until I get my money back, because scamming a young family with a baby is effed up and we really need that money.

The quote for my move and pack was off by 50%. On the day of the move, only 50% of my belongings were moved to my new home. The sales associate was completely incompetent and had no idea how much time needed to be allotted. Thankfully I owned my residence for another few days so I could move the rest of my belongings. The response I got from customer service was completely disrespectful and appalling. They took ZERO responsibility for any issue I had. I have never had such an awful experience in my life and I live in NYC and move all the time. Under no circumstances should you use this company. Please don’t make the mistake I did.
