Horrible, Stressful, Hidden Fees

HORRIBLE!!! I did a lot of research around moving companies, as we needed to hire movers since I am pregnant and couldn't help my husband lift or carry. We decided to pay extra to have quality movers we could trust. This company had overall good reviews and advertised how they were stress-free and had no hidden costs. Well, that was all a lie. This has been the most stressful move! First, the person who did the virtual tour to make the inventory list didn't include some outdoor footstool, even though I clearly showed it and called it out, and added four extra chairs we didnt have. In the end, the day of pick-up, we had to pay an additional $500 or so because we had some extra large boxes instead of large boxes (even though we had also traded out large for medium boxes). Fine. We just wanted it done. Then, we didn't get our furniture delivered until 6 days later. Again, manageable, though inconvenient. Then, we were told we would get 24 hours notice when the truck was on the way to deliver. 24 hours turned into a call the morning of (good thing my husband didnt have to work that day). Then, when they called, we were told they would be here around 2-3pm...which ended up being 6pm. Then on top of that, we find out the delivery truck is a 3rd party contractor, something we were never told was the case, and one of the reasons I had picked GM Van Lines (no third party). We were also told that this delivery mover wasn't informed we were on a 2nd floor apartment, something I told GM Van Lines several times. They tried to charge us for the stairs, but we were able to prove that GM Van Lines had said the stairs were already included in our estimate. Then we were told they had to shuttle the furniture, an additional $600 (it was going to be $900, but they were kind enough to work with us). Again, not the delivery trucks fault, but why on earth did GM van lines put our furniture on an 80' truck that had to be shuttled when the KNEW we were moving into an apartment complex. If they justed used a normal truck, the shuttle would not be needed. I THINK Van Lines likes to say they are here to help, but they are here to scam. On top of all that, they broke a headboard on our bed. DO NOT USE THEM!

THIEVES

David has a disgusting personality. Rude & they overcharged. Please what ever you do. Do not hire them. They stole my ps5 and Remotes. That's $1,500 not even adding the games I have purchased. They do not even want to reimburse. I'm going to take this to legal matters. What a coincidence both remotes missing plus console. Please do not hire with them please. I hope this whole company gets shut down immediately. They treat people like garbage. Only worried about the money. They do not care about how your stuff gets there. Also the guys did not take all my stuff I had to hire another company. Disgusting liars and THEIVES. They dont have a social media because they are crooks. I should have read the reviews before hand now I feel so dumb. I will keep reviewing them on every website. They tried charging me 16,000 to move. What kind of dirty human being does this. Hope they rot in Hell.

Customer Service!

I chose this company after getting concerned about the tactics of some competitors. I went to the BBB and saw that GM moving had an A+ rating. I called and spoke with Angela who is amazing at customer service. She was with me every step of the way. The movers came on time and spent careful hours making sure everything was securely packed. This was a cross country move from coast to coast and when everything arrived, as stated in the contract, it was a full size tractor trailer truck. They gave advanced notice of their arrival more than 24 hours in advance. They parked very close and spent the same careful time reassembling all the furniture. Great experience. I highly recommend them. Ask for Angela. She is wonderful!

Brilliant Movers

The movers were quick and efficient. It took longer than I expected, but not unreasonably! They were showing up on time. We moved items to storage and to our new place. They were quick to check in when it came to specific items, such as delicate, and make sure they knew where everything was to go. There was a minor mix-up with some items ending up in storage, but nothing much! I'll definitely consider them again for future moves.

Long-distance move from Tampa, FL to Jersey City, NJ

FRAUD Company

Worst Movers ever - DON'T TRUST, whatever they will quote will charge much more than that later.

I had to move 2 bedroom from Tampa, Florida to Jersey City, NJ in Aug 2021. I called GM van lines and Dave from Sales gave me quote of $ 3300 roughly. On the day of move, couple folks came in and start parking my stuff and then a guy among them told me give me a quote 0f $4600.

I called Dave who transferred me to another Dave and they said I have to pay 1 fleet of stairs charge, my luggage is overweighing etc. nonsense reasons, wherein actuality i had exact stuff that was mentioned in my original on-phone quote. Finally they me mental stress and this continued for couple hours. Later when didn't find any proper reason to charge me extra, they settled to charge me $200 for stairs. Story is not finished here.

I got my packages in NJ via another mover wherein they claim they are movers and have TRUCKS - all nonsense as some other mover dropped my stuff. That another mover charged me $400 extra for loan carry etc. GM VAn lines said i sent 35 boxes but i received in NJ only 30 boxes. Another company mover even confirmed to GM VAN Lines on phone that I have only received 30 boxes. i asked them to return money or give me lost boxes and they denied.

I DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE moving with them, as moving is stressful and GM VAN Lines will increase your stress and will charge you much more than they quote.

Long-distance move from Florida to Nevada

Where do I start?

Prices changes several times, after I got David to come and see the inventory we finally settled on a price based upon inventory. Paid the down payment, 20%, Here come the criminals, the lead criminal loaded my stuff and put papers in front of me to sign, expecting me not to read the contract. He filled in based on weight, I unchecked and signed for inventory. After it was loaded he said $1300, contract was for $950 on pick up and delivery. Clearly hoping I would cave, I called the office and put David on speaker, the head guy mover was mad I went over his head and pretended he made a mistake. The mistake was trying to rob me. I paid him a check for $950 and made him write the delivery amount was $950. Then he said what about a gratuity... After clearly trying to screw me, I still gave him $20, he yells down to the boys that I was cheap and only gave him $20, I gave him another $20 to shut him up but he still disrespected me. Here comes the really bad news, broke my dresser, my hybrid bike, did not deliver my dolley it was lost along the way, would not reassemble a table that they took apart on the first leg, scratched the paint in my brand new construction home, all my pictures marked fragile were broken with glass everywhere. My snap on toolbox was mishandled and all the tools were all scattered inside. STAY AWAY FROM THESE AMATURES, TERRRIBLE, have to take my bike to have repaired, the brake line was pulled out and bent, double dresser that matched the other bedroom furniture is ruined. Had to buy a new table, David zelled me

Do not use this company !

This company will arrive in a rental truck ; change the price once loaded . My quote was $4500 , then changed to $6009 on a walk thru and once loaded $9000 . They then said almost $2000 to unload because I could pay $9500. We agreed at $6700 but then my drop off was from some guy driving a semi called Black Ice trucking . He pulled up by his self and later some Hispanic guys showed up in a separate vehicle . Come to find out they were hired on Uhaul . Com . This company sub contracts your items and they don’t pack or handle with care . Several things were broken and also black ice had other families belongings packed on his truck . GM Van lines is controlled by a very shady guy and once you get into customer service issues the person Bill never answers again . You’re stuck dealing with no one and just calling phones that no one picks up . This was very much a hurtful situation.

Long-distance move from Dalton, GA to Melbourne, FL

A Headache During An Already Stressful Ordeal

I contacted GM Van Lines in late August. I spoke to a man named Howard who told me that in order to hold the reservation at the price quoted, I needed to pay a deposit of nearly $700. No other company I spoke to asked for a deposit up front like Howard did; but he assured me that if I decided to cancel, the refund would be posted immediately. After I spoke to several other companies over the next week or so, I chose to go a different route and called GM Van Lines to cancel my reservation. Howard was very upset, but after much arguing he finally said he would process the refund and it would take 10 business days to post.

After waiting for over 15 business days, I called the company and spoke to Trisha who informed me that the job had never been cancelled and I was still scheduled for pickup on the specified date. Not only that, but if I were seeking a refund, it should have been posted immediately and not 10 days later like Howard had said. She contacted her boss, Oded, who posted the refund the very next day (now late September). At that point, I thought the ordeal was over.

The refund sat as a pending transaction on my credit card account for 4 or so business days before mysteriously disappearing. I called my credit card company who told me that when a transaction disappears like that it usually means that it was cancelled by the issuing company. I called GM Van Lines and spoke to Trisha again who called Oded and called me back to say that he said that the problem was not on their end; so I was left to sit there wondering where the transaction went. Finally after several days of both companies shrugging their shoulders at me and several phone calls in both directions, the problem was rectified and the refund was applied to my account; but not without significant anxiety on my part because I was currently in the middle of packing my entire house and moving my family out-of-state while I was wrestling with this issue.

Dealing with this company was a nightmare. Howard was pushy, disrespectful, deceitful, and patronizing in my dealings with him; and he was especially disrespectful, angry, and insulting during my first attempt to cancel the deposit. I do not know why the second attempt at a refund was so tumultuous, but it certainly was ill-timed on GM's part considering Howard's behavior for the first attempt; and it was the final blow that killed any goodwill I may have retained for this company and their intentions. My advice for those seeking a moving company is to go elsewhere and save yourself a major headache.
