Frustrating billing; good moving

I had furniture in storage with Flatrate from 2018 to 2022. They handled the moves professionally and with care. But billing & storage were handled dismally. Within months of the move, they informed me they were no longer bound by our contract and had sold that warehouse to another company. It took me months of emails and expensive calls from India, and the intercession of one sympathetic senior person at Flatrate, to sort this out in my favour. Very troubling experience altogether.

Four Items Lost with No Recovery in Sight

Flatrate Move’s salesmen offer a very convincing pitch, but my experience with them did not live up to their promises at all. I paid $2200 to move a total of 42 items, including boxes and furniture, from NYC to Athens GA. This price supposedly included the cost for a shuttle, so that we wouldn’t have an 18-wheeler trying to drive through our small streets. However, when the movers arrived, they were in fact in the 18-wheeler so I don’t know what the point of paying for a shuttle was. Additionally, we were told that the movers would arrive between 2-5pm. They arrived at half past midnight. Worst of all, 4 of my items could not be located in the van, including a large armchair, an ottoman footstool, a box of valuable books and a large box containing framed art. These items total at least $1000 in losses for me. It has been a week since the move, and although the company dispatchers have made vague promises to look for my belongings, I have yet to hear the results of any other efforts being actually made to locate my missing possessions. And this, despite the salespitch including a barcode system supposedly designed to prevent the misplacement or misdirection of items being shipped. Given the magnitude of my lost items, both in terms of physical size and value, and the cavalier attitude of management, I can only firmly recommend AGAINST using Flatrate Move.

Disaster

They were unable to complete a move-out/move-in within 2 days of a 2-bedroom apt. Left items partially and fully unassembled. Left 40-plus boxes packed in spite of their contratual obligation to unpack and remove packing materials. Were aggressive,relentless and intimidating about tips in spite of our generous tipping. Did not provide a piano mover as contracted. Left us with packed boxes and unassembled pieces for 8 days before returning to complete the job. Broke picture frames. Left artwork in truck trash till we demanded they find it. Refused compensation of more than a "courtesy credit." There is no courtesy at FlatRate. Gang of thugs.

Recent move in and out of storage.

Move involved crating some very delicate and valuable furniture, storing it, then moving belongings out of storage to an apartment still being renovated. The team built custom crates with styrofoam padding to protect each item going into storage. Move out of storage included unpacking crates and removing all packing materials. Unfortunately, destination apartment was being renovated and behind schedule, so movers had to work around a construction site. They were very considerate and found ways to deal with a very difficult situation. They also covered all the newly installed floors and were careful not to bump up against freshly painted walls. Would definitely use them again.

GOOD JOB!!! FLARATE MOVING !!!

Tyrone Johnson is the best foreman. With his team of five, they are the best movers that I have ever had. I speak as someone who has moved several times in the last 39 years in New York City. This time, I moved from New York City to North Bethesda, Maryland.

If I were to move again, I would recruit the same team again. They were client oriented, communicative, sensitive, careful, cheerful, fast, strategic in packin, in protecting the furniture and in moving the items on and off the truck without causing any inconvenience to the other dwellers in the buildings. I appreciated that my bathroom and my kitchen items were upfront and accessible at the point of destination. It is also worth mentioning that they did not leave a mess behind.

I gladly tipped them above the recommended percentages.

I also want to commend Lewis Harsanyi, Move Consultant of FLATRATE, who was my first point of entry to the process of moving.

Moving is a stressful experience and the team made it significantly manageable. Keep the good work!

Pain free and enjoyable!

Felix and his partner were worth every penny. Both were attentive, personable, friendly, and efficient! Moving is stressful, and they made sure everything went smoothly and quickly. Both of them definitely knew exactly what to do with each piece (including some very fragile cacti!). They helped arrange some of my larger items in my new space—if I could have had them over for drinks to celebrate the move, I would! Will definitely use this team again.

Moving Sofa Bed

The men from Flat Rate arrived earlier than start time. They worked quickly and efficiently taking care of what needed to be done. They also anticipated door removal to take couch up to destination. The couch legs were put on after it was placed in apartment. They had previously put couch in storage and had all screws and legs organized so they were easily findable . A job well done.

Flatrateis excellent

Everything from start to finish was seamless! Mingwas incredibly helpful throughout the process. I was nervous since I was moving into my first apartment on my own but Ming was helpful, kind, and compassionate.

Our movers were on-time (actually early) and very respectful of our space and items. They were also very kind and attentive.

Juan, Alex, and Mario: the Flat Rate Super Team!

Juan, Alex, and Mario were a great, conscientious, and efficient team. Their teamwork meant that they could move a lot of items quickly while still paying attention to how to place fragile boxes/items safely and take care of furniture. Their communication was good both within the team and with us, and they were very good at making efficient use of space in both the truck and our storage unit. This was our second move using Flat Rate, and we were very satisfied with the quality of service we got both times, but were particularly impressed with this team as they had to both pack and unpack the truck within the course of a single day (our previous move with Flat Rate was long distance, so packing and unpacking were on separate days).

Hideous experience.

Awful experience! Do not hire this company!
The name should not be FlatRate, they bring new fees and charges during the whole process after you paid the agreed amount. They are incompetent, terrible employees, incredibly dismissive and unprepared. And of course, we had a big part of our belongings broken.
Seriously, stay away from them!!

Destroyed my TV.

FlatRate smashed my 50 inch plasma television during the move. Then they only offered to compensate me 60 cents per pound. That turned out to be $36 for a $2000 television. They also broke a lamp and showed up hours late. Do not use this company !

Worst Movers Ever.

Called them one month in advance of move. They quoted me a high up front price, but promised no more surprises. I got screwed. the movers showed up late and missed my scheduled time in the elevator even though this was the time the workman told me to schedule. it cost me an extra $400 to rebook for later in the day. then they stayed past the buildings 6pm curfew for moves, and the blg property manager threatened to stop my move unless I agreed to pay another $100 late fee. even with all the extra time, the movers still managed to damage my furniture. they put a hole through my leather sofa and broke my table. don't use them if you care about your stuff. i've had much better experiences with two men and a truck for local moves and vanlines for long distance.
