Stolen Items

Don Farr Movers stole an entire weight stack from an exercise machine plus additional exercise equipment during a one day move. To add insult to injury their missing items claim policy paid us only a few dozen dollars to what ended up costing us several hundred dollars to replace our equipment. Lastly, they never followed up with us on a supposed investigation into which of their employees stole our items.

Long-distance move from Atlanta, GA to New York, NY

Book at your own risk.

Please DO NOT use this company.

Don Farr moved us from Atlanta to New York City in August 2016. We paid for professional packing and THOUSANDS of dollars for additional insurance for our high-value items. Their movers were completely unprofessional. We saw that they weren't using enough packing materials to secure our fragile items (vases just wrapped in moving blankets and placed in boxes) so we asked them to pack better. The mover basically told us he had 30 years experience and to let him do his job. We had no choice but to let them continue since we had a flight booked for the next morning.

When the items arrived in NY, two large, fragile vases were completely destroyed. See photos. We filed a claim, which was supposed to be settled within 120 days but took a full 9+ months for a response. The company denied the claim because they said the items should have been crated. Apparently, appropriately securing items is not part of their job, according to the company.

I spoke with someone in their claims department who told me that I was responsible for knowing that the items should be crated and that it wasn't on their work order. I think this is completely unreasonable since we paid thousands of extra dollars specifically for packing and insurance. This is the type of company you're dealing with if you book a move with them. Book at your own risk.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Texas

Good experience.

My son was moving from PA to Texas. I called varies movers and I decided to go with Don Farr (local mover) although estimated cost was higher. The office staff was excellent when I called and asked numerous questions. The estimated cost was higher than all of the other moving quotes but I just felt comfortable after speaking to their office staff. I was pleasantly surprised when the final cost was just a little higher then if we would have rented a U-haul and did the move ourselves. When they picked up the furniture and boxes to be moved the movers worked non-stop. The employees that loaded the truck were the same employees that brought it to Texas. The load wasn't to be delivered until Wednesday but on Monday they called and said they were a day early and asked if they could deliver Tuesday. Worked since he was there on Tuesday without any furniture. The employees again worked non-stop until everything was unloaded. Diffidently would recommend Don Farr Moving!

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Ohio

Horrible Experience.

We got transferred from Mars PA to Lebanon Ohio, near Cincinnati. The company was paying 100% of the cost of the move. Nick the owner's son said they do this all the time with companies and not to worry about costs in payments from company. As the company will pay 100%. Don Farr was one of three companies we got quotes from. He quoted me at 9000 lb, I said better make it 14 as the other companies had said 14000 pounds. Ended up being over 15,000 pounds. One week before we were about to move they called about the down payment. I said the company will send out the down payment same week. We went back and forth about confirming the move date since they did not have the down payment. The day of the move we had five guys show up to pack our things. They stayed about 6 hours and I fed them pizza and drinks. Second day they showed up 4 guys showed up to continue packing and they were only there for 4 hours. The day that they were loading the truck only two guys showed up. We had a going away party that evening. If I did not help them (we paid for full pack and move) they would not have been done. The day before they were to show up in Lebanon Ohio Justin the dispatcher said we need to be paid the remaining balance. I said I thought there was an understanding that the company will settle up after the final bill was submitted to us. The company is a worldwide company that we work for. But Justin asked for a good faith check of the remaining balance. I had said please do not cash because the company will settle the final balance. They only had two guys unpacking the truck. First day they had issues with the trailer in Pittsburgh. This was the second time they had said that there was issues during this whole process. We had to sleep on the floor the first night. We also got the unpacking service. But I still went ahead and built all the beds back together. We also paid for complete floor Covering for protection of our floors. The company did not even send out anyting to protect the floors and I drove the guys to Home Depot to get floor coverings. About a week after they had left I went into my bank account and noticed they had cashed our good faith check about 10 days too early. I had call Justin and asked that I thought we had an understanding that that was not supposed to be cashed. He said that it was not and he don't know what happened. He said he would call me back in 30 minutes and I had to call him back 2 hours later. He said it was submitted and I should receive a refund in my bank. Well that did not happen it takes 3 to 5 days for that to happen and called him on the 6th the day and told him that as I was was paid in full. He asked me about I thought the company was going to pay them. I had said I was not authorizing painting until I saw the money back in my account. He said he would call me in 30 minutes and never heard from him again. They tell lies, they are not reliable, they do not do what they say, they're only after money and do not care about the customer. We have also had many things broken scratched in a very old antique broken. I would never recommend this company to my worst enemy. This company will go down fast as none of the reviews are positive.

Don Farr moving experience.

Terrible experience with this mover. Every review on here is correct. After our stuff was loaded we were told we were over our weight and they charged us another $400. They didn’t pack things carefully and damaged my furniture! Look at the way it was put in the truck!! They don’t send enough guys or trucks to do a job properly, they are dishonest and underhanded.

Worst Movers in Pgh.

In January 2020, Don Farr moved my parents from one apartment complex in Monroeville to another about four miles away. Farr was expensive. Its employees were careless; they damaged the cane backs of three mid-century Modern dining chairs (and claimed “they were like that when we got there.”) They also broke two mirrors and two glass tabletops as well as chipped wooden trim from three dressers. The best part, however, is the loss of two pieces of furniture stored in their warehouse. This time the employee claimed, “Oh, your dad didn’t want them and gave those pieces to our crew.” Yes, I paid $1300 for storage and delivery of those items to my home in NJ because my dad gifted them to the moving crew. And here it is, months later, and nothing is forthcoming - not a suitable explanation, not the furniture, not an apology, and not a refund to either my parents or me for any of the loss or damage.

If you value your belongings, your money, and your sanity, you will not hire Don Farr Moving and Storage under any circumstances.

Complete nightmare

Stay far away! We unfortunately used Don Farr June 11 for a local move, 15642-15642. First, they showed up late, upon arrival they came in one small truck and only 2 men. Our estimate was 2 large trucks and 4 men. So now we waited for another truck and 2 more men. Once they finally all arrived they began. It was clear they were ill prepared, none of our items were protected, no pads, blankets or plastic wrap. Myself and my husband asked them to please provide protection, they smugly declined.

During the process they told us if we didn't like how they move we should do it ourselves.

Once the move was over we found all the damages. A 1 year old SS refrigerator, of which I have the receipt proving purchase date and price, covered in dents and scratches on all 3 sides... and they somehow managed to break the plug. How does this happen? My 6 month on dining set, large gauges and multiple chips in 4 of 6 chairs. My king headboard snapped, a leg on my buffet table cracked and our 9 year olds loft bed so incompetently put together a piece was missing! A mover handed me a leg to my TV stand and said "don't worry Ma, just file a claim." Not one of the men could drive the large moving truck, they all tried to pull it out of a flat driveway, almost taking out 2 cars. This staff were incredibly undertrained, unmannerly and lazy. They most certainly didn't care about the job or our furniture. Then had the audacity to wait for tips.

Now the claims part. Monday June 14 we called to start the process. We are told they will mail the packet out. A week goes by and nothing. Multiple calls and nothing. Monday the 21 we go to Don Farr to fill them out in person. We're told "it's hard to get staff, no one wants to work" Not my problem, don't take a job you can't handle. Few weeks go by we hear nothing, few phones calls no replies. Then we are in contact with with Lynne, who handles the claims, she's incredibly smart mouthed and sends snippy emails if she replies at all! Unacceptable behavior. Today we finally get our claim resolved in the mail, 350.20. What a slap in the face! We now have over 2,000 in damages and they suggest 350? Take accountability for your sorry excuse of a company. Provide proper training so this doesn't happen again. This has been an absolute nightmare. Mr Fixx, well you should be embarrassed, you can't even correct the major damage YOUR company cost. So please, do your research, they have many accusations with the BBB with horror stories like mine. If you value your items, go elsewhere. Attached are a few of the many damages. Hope this helps someone.

100% Neglect = Many Unnecessary Damages

All our items were mishandled. There are water damages to our piano bench and terrible scratches along the front of the piano. TWO pole lamps AND a Tiffany lamp were broken. An oil heater was broken. A new pole power saw is missing. My boxed wedding dress was stuffed into a garbage bag, its box missing. Our 34" smart tv arrived unboxed. Blankets are missing. Driver told us he "had to switch trucks during a violent storm and the water damaged boxes were reboxed and repacked by staff". I can't be sure of lost items since boxes were repacked with different items. The list goes on.... Wish I could post pictures! Farr is quick to take your money, but never respond personally to complaint or questions. I am extremely disappointed and angry at the lack of regard and respect for our personal belongings and their total disregard to box markings and the resulting losses. I am sorry I contracted with them. Would never recommend them. Paid over $6,000. Asked for $1,000 refund to replace/repair damaged/missing items. 4 months later, received $200.

Long-distance move from Weirton, WV to Knoxville, TN

Charges, charges and more charges!!

Don Farr moved my goods from my parent's garage in Weirton, West Virginia to an apartment complex in Knoxville, TN. Considering I moved no heavy furniture and mostly boxes, I was quoted the minimum charge of $1,200 for the interstate move. After they picked up my goods and supposedly weighed them, I was told that they weighed more than the minimum and my final cost would be $2,100. They henced charged my credit card and charged my credit card for an extra $610! I was to be refunded, via a check, the $610; however, while waiting for the check to arrive, my goods arrived in Knoxville, TN. The day of the move, the driver told me my apartment complex would not allow their large semi-truck into the complex and that he would have to rent a U-Haul to get my goods into my apartment..they would charge me ANOTHER $425!!. My question is, if this is a so called "professional" moving company, in business for many years, why wouldn't they know to have me ask the apartment complex if they allow semi-trucks in? Instead, they waited til the day of the move and it was another surprise charge! After refusing to pay it, I was told that I signed (where as I signed nothing, my mother signed all of the paperwork upon pick up of the goods from her house. She was only told she was signing for the pick up of the items. She was NEVER told that she signed something stating that they had the right to charge whatever needed to be charged to "make the move happen!") Instead of charging my credit card again, they deemed to just take the $425 out of the $610 check they were to send. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY ALL KINDS OF SURPRISE CHARGES!! They do not care about their customers!! Horrible!!

Horrible Experience.

LONGEST  AND MOST PAINFUL ONE MILE MOVE.   We had a horrible experience with this company and we were only moving 1 mile away.  We asked three times for the owner to call us to discuss, but we have been told the owner is semi retired.  We have yet to receive a call back from any owner.  We have received one email and we are not satisfied with their response to date.                                 We were told by the estimator that our move was a two day move. Our estimator who were told was experienced quoted us a price and the company is trying to charge us a higher hourly rate that what was quoted in writing.  We gave the date we had to be out of our house for the new homeowners.  The estimator gave us a Sunday for the first day of the move. Now looking back on it this was the first point of deceit and mistake by the company.  The crew that showed up on Sunday was the farthest from a professional experienced moving crew we have ever seen. We were later told by this crew that whoever is willing to show up on a Sunday is who ends up being sent on the job. We were never told that before the job by the estimator.  It was very apparent that the crew was unskilled and new to the job. There was no lead on the job to manage the crew in any professional and successful manner.     Ultimately, due to the ongoing damage to our belongings on the first day we had to terminate the crew.  At one point, one of the crew members walked off the job to pick up his girlfriend.  Consequently, the crew was then understaffed and unable to unload any furniture from the truck. The truck that was brought to our home was also not equipped to handle the job - it was too small and the ramp did not work so it placed further stress on the crew to lift items onto and off the truck especially when one of the crew members left.  By the end of the first day, the crew members were yelling at us in front of our new home.  Because the crew was clearly not able to finish the job appropriately or professionally, the terminated crew had to take our items back to the yard on the truck. So, we were left with the job not even half done, damage to our items and some of our items out of our possession.    The crew damaged numerous items. Some of the damage is as follows: 1) a headboard which fell to the hardwood floor and the wood was damaged during the fall 2) a dresser to that same set was scraped in several places on one side 3) the wood around another dresser mirror was damaged when it was dropped onto another piece of furniture as the mirror was being taken off the dresser 4) the other piece of furniture on which the mirror fell was a wood cabinet from Today's Home, which is cracked in the corner where the mirror fell 5)  the piece of glass that was on that wooden cabinet was completely cracked and is now unusable  6) a dresser to a master bedroom set has a chunk out of it in the back corner and a large ding/crack in the front mini door  7) a corner of an expensive wood desk is cracked 8) a Tempur-Pedic mattress, which was not placed in a bag immediately, is stained with dirt and blood and will now need replaced.  The blood came from a crew member who cut herself when cleaning up the glass that broke. We told her to put protection on before cleaning up and she did not do so.  .   The second and new crew sent the second day was more experienced and qualified.  However, there has been some additional damage in our new home and to a few pieces of furniture that the first crew did not do. Five men were sent to the job on the second day and at least one that we know of was in training.  The company sent five men rather than the quoted four so that the move out of our old home would be completed as promised.    The job was not complete as promised. Once our items were loaded on the truck the second day, it was so late in the day that all of our items had to again be sent on the two trucks to the company’s truck yard location.  The items had to be unloaded the third day which made this a three day move instead of the promised two day.  The company did waive the first day charges which they most certainly should have given how many items they damages. The company is now trying to charge us for the five men and trying to charge us an hourly rate that is higher than what was quoted in writing.   This move has been one of the most unpleasant and unprofessional experiences we have ever had.  The company has also charged our credit card without our authorization as we told them we needed to discuss with the owner the problems and the increased hourly rate first.   DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They are not cheap and they do a horrible job moving your belongings.

Don Farr Moving.

We used Don Farr Moving to move our furniture to a new home on 7/22/2015. They were negligent in regards to protecting our furniture. There are scratches and gouges on almost every piece of furniture. They wrapped the wood furniture in plastic wrap without a protective layer and it removed the finish. They did not wrap a couch correctly and the cushions fell on the sidewalk, getting dirty. They did not provide mattress cases as promised, and the mattresses got dirty. They did not offer or explain the insurance. They have not returned our calls.      .

Don Farr moving HORRIBLE.

I used Don Farr moving to move from Pittsburgh, PA to State College, PA. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Be prepared for very expensive pricing, profanity from the moving crew directed at me the customer, smashed items, scratched floors, the "crew manager" Ty ruined and broke a window frame, he also told me " I don't know what I am talking about" when I told him how to move a large leather sofa, hence the broke window frame. The estimator gave me a repair bill of over $1200 and Don Farr will only cover $180 of damages. Sara in the claims department is one the rudest people I have ever met. Stay away from Don Farr Moving Company!

One of the worst experiences ever.. Thanks Don Farr Movers!

Avoid Don Farr Moving & Storage or risk having your items stolen, damaged and destroyed. Worst of all, the owner and managers will do everything they can to rip you off even further when you go to file a claim with their insurance company.

Don Farr employees cannot be trusted! They stole $300 in cash from my 11 year old daughter's piggy bank, stole jewelry from my son's bedroom during packing, and damaged our walls, wood and paint as they moved our things into their trucks.

Don Farr managers told us to call the police after we noticed the money was taken. So, cops came to our house to try and figure out and arrest the movers that stole from us, but they couldn't tell which one(s) took the money because they already had 'rolls' of bills in their pockets. Don Farr fired some of them that same day, but the replacements weren't any better.. not a bit.

Upon arrival of trucks to the new house.. there was THOUSANDS of dollars in damages and destroyed items. Not just little items either.. a whole freezer, refrigerators, mirrors, lamps, furniture, and much much more.. damaged or destroyed beyond repair.

After 4 months of waiting.. and lots of calls to get updates on our situation.. and all we got back for the damages and ridiculous ordeal was a check for $500 from Don Farr Movers' insurance company. We're not happy. This is not satisfactory in the least. David Fix, the General Manager, will not return calls to us either. Sorry excuse of a leader that already knows that this isn't a fair resolution, but 'business is business' and gone are the days of being honest, fair and accountable.

Horrible customer service. Shameful and shady operation that does not believe in integrity or being accountable for who they put into our homes or what happens to our valuables.

Disgusting company from the top down.

Terrible Service.

I contracted Don Farr to move me from Pittsburgh to Beaver. I was led to believe I was dealing with a professional mover. They were anything but. While I had most of the packing completed, what they packed was done carelessly, and they didn't label any of the boxes they packed. When they entered the house I was leaving they took no care to cover the flooring; I asked to have the area rug rolled up and was ignored - the rug is now filthy and will have to be re-cleaned. Once we got to the new residence it was as if they were in a race to see how fast they could get done unloading - we attempted to direct them to where items went but were pretty much ignored. They scratched an antique hutch; my work desk was disassembled by them and they lost all of the connectors to reassemble - so now my work desk is unusable. I called the office and was pretty much blown off. If you are looking for a mover, DO NOT use Don Farr - I have moved several times in my life and these guys are the absolute worse. I sent them the email they suggested I send and its been a week and no one has contacted me. Totally unprofessional on all levels.

Pickup Crew.

I was very pleased with Juan and Jeffrey, the young men that came to pickup my household goods that were storaged in a storage unit. They even worked with the “Florida” off and on rain. They stored my things in the lobby until they could get them on the truck without getting anything wet. It has been a long time since I have encountered young men that showed respect the both of them did. Even with some rain they were a delight to work with. I feel this company is fortunate to have these two young men on their team.
Kevin and Jacob were also a pleasure to work with, as they worked together to coordinated my move.

Unreal!!

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I reached out to them for a quote and they immediately set me up for an in-home estimate. They tried to reach me to confirm the appointment, but I was in doctor appointments all day and could not respond. Since they couldn't get in touch with me they Googled my name, found the names of my family members, and called them to track me down. When I called, livid, they said that the information is public domain so they didn't do anything wrong. They literally tracked down my family members to hunt me down! What kind of company searches for potential customer's families, harasses them, and thinks it's ok?!

Unresponsive xlaims.

We used Don Farr for a cross-town move in February. During the move several small things were damaged (ie: broken knobs on our grill), but I sort of expected that with the move. The big issue was that the roof of their truck leaked and soaked many of our boxes. The bigger issue came when the movers did significant damage to our hard wood floors. We filed a claim on February 11th, and I write this on June 28th as I wait on hold for nearly 30 minutes. It took three months for Lynn at Don Farr to review our claim, three weeks for the claims guy to make out to look (including two no-shows on his part), and I’ve now been waiting two weeks for the guy who is supposed to do the work to show up. He had an appointment last week, failed to show and hasn’t called me or retuned my phone calls. This process is definitely intended to make me give up. And, honestly, I’d we were only talking about the dents to the drywall in my master bedroom, I would have. However, this is significant damage to hardwood flooring. The other icing on the ale is that every time I call and ask to speak to a manager or supervisor, they say there isn’t one.
End point: the good price wasn’t worth this inanity I’m now wading through.

Deplorable quality of service.

Don Farr moving was the absolute worst service I have ever experienced. Not only were the movers completely inefficient, they managed to damage every piece of wooden furniture I own. they left things shrink wrapped, furniture wasn't placed where it was supposed to be, half of the furniture was not put together, there were items left outside and not discovered until the next day, they left garbage in our home, they did not put items in the proper rooms even though the boxes were all labelled and color coded, they damaged our home in multiple places, they took privileges with items already placed in the home and moved them on top of clean laundry and breakable items, it took them 3 hours to remove a washer/dryer/and upright freezer from our basement, I still cannot find 2 shelves for my book cases, not a one of them was able to explain the contracts that needed signing, they moved things they were specifically told not to move, they paid no attention to whether items needed to remain in an upright position (boxes were found upside down and sideways), they dropped things and banged things around (piano included) they also didn't bring the mattress covers, nor did they wrap the furniture appropriately (and it should have stayed wrapped until it was carried to the appropriate room/position. The best part is it took 13 hours for them to destroy everything, past the estimated 10 hours of planned destruction. We have moved before with items placed where they were to go, and ready for living, within 8 hours. After 13 hours, my husband and I had to take furniture apart to move it to where it needed to go so that we could even get to our bed; which was also put practically in the middle of the room. Now I have to plea with them to get a refund for their ineptitude. I also had to take an extra day off of work to fix their mess.

Damaged EVERY piece of valuable furniture.

Do NOT even consider this company. They damaged most of our valuable furniture, at one point even standing our couch on its arm in a mud puddle! Every time I saw them damage something and asked politely for them to be careful, they literally started dropping boxes marked Fragile! They were the most unprofessional individuals I have ever worked with. I will never be able to replace all the furniture they damaged and they just kept telling me not to worry because I can just file a claim. I now have to fight for months to recover a fraction of what my furniture is worth.

Kind, respectful, professional, efficient, timely, moving services.

Kind, caring, respectful, professional, efficient, timely, cost effective.  That's what I have to say about Don Farr, in a nutshell.

My mother, lived in Pittsburgh.  She passed away about six months ago  and I had to clean out her estate.  I needed to find a mover to transport the things I wanted to save, the things that are important to me. I had no idea where to find a reliable mover who was also cost effective.  I asked around and ended up calling a couple of national places and one from across the state for estimates. I hadn't chosen anyone yet, I was too busy packing and I ran out of boxes. I was going to Home Depot,  when my cousin, who lives locally in Pittsburgh, called me and said that I should go to Don Farr to get boxes. I had no idea who or where Don Farr was so I looked it up.  I called and Devin answered the phone. He was really nice and yes they had boxes and tape.  I realized that they were a local moving company and so I called back and asked them to for an Estimate.  Maxine answered, who was also really kind and helpful.   She listened to my verbal estimate of boxes and furniture and then gave me two estimates, one being a worst case, it was a "It may be heavier than you think" option. After I got off the phone with her, I decided to call my cousin back and ask her if she knew anything about their moving services.  She said that she had used them for a move 10 years ago and they did a really good job.  My cousin, is a really tough customer by the way, and if she doesn't like something, she'll tell you and everyone else so I felt pretty confident that they must have done a good job.  Her son also used them for a move that was much more recent and he was happy with them. Anyway, I went and picked up the boxes and met John (the long distance dispatcher).  He ended up giving me a whole bunch of boxes that  they refer to as promo boxes and a couple of mirror/glass pack boxes and tape.  They didn't charge for me them.  I went home and continued packing and as the number of boxes increased I started to get nervous that the estimate that I received on the phone may not be correct.  So, I was driving by Don Farr on another errand and I stopped in and asked if someone could come over and give me a visual estimate.  My mom lived about 5 minutes from their offices.  They told me that Devin would come by her house in about 15 minutes.  So, I finally got to meet the friendly voice who had answered the phone.  He looked at everything I had and  thought that it was slightly higher than the original estimate.  It made me feel better to have someone see it rather than relying on what I told them on the phone. After Devin left and I got back to packing, I realized that I needed packing paper too -- I had run out of newspaper. I called John and he told me that I could stop by and pick some up.  He ended up giving a partial roll for free which was plenty of paper for my needs. I went home and packed everything up. I left it at the house ready for them to pick up on our designated date. My neighbor was going to meet them there for me because I had to go back to my current home.

This morning was the day of the pickup.  I called my neighbor to see if they had arrived yet.  Yes, on time.  She said that three very nice men (I wish I had gotten their names) came to move everything out of the house.  They were quick, efficient and careful.  She was very happy with the work that they did.

I have to say that I wish I could give me neighbor a review, if I could, I would give her 5 stars for all of her help. She's top notch.  But she doesn't have a company. She's just a very kind hearted soul who was a good friend of my mom and helped me out a ton.  Thank you to her!!

Back to Don Farr.  So my mom's things are on the truck and scheduled to get to my house in about a week.  I'll write a 2nd review to follow up this one. With the service that I have received so far, I expect that it will also be just as good. .

Long-distance move from Avella, PA to The Villages, FL

Move from PA to FL.

I will start by saying this was our third move with Don Farr and the first two moves were great with minimal problems. Because of that we trusted that things would be the same on this move so did not buy the extended insurance. The move was horrendous, no other words to describe it. They brought a truck that was too small. The move took hours longer than estimated, and another truck had to be brought the next day to finish up. Four movers on a Saturday and one fellow was so surly and unpleasant with complaining the whole time that he wasn’t supposed to work on a Saturday. He would not use the television boxes we supplied, but rather wrapped the three TVs in blankets. Two flat screen televisions disappeared and never made it to our new home and the third was delivered with a cracked screen, rendering it useless. I additionally lost a box of kitchen items. Many boxes were delivered crushed, upside down. Beds weren’t put together, just a fiasco. I will say that the two men who delivered our items worked very hard. Things come in so fast that you are virtually unable to cross off every item on the inventory list and have to sign it before they leave. We discovered the televisions were missing immediately and we were able to alert the driver BUT they never appeared anywhere. How does that happen? We got a huge (sarcasm) check for the damaged lost item of approximately $80.00..This is our last move but we would never recommend this company to anyone! They have gone downhill from the first time we used them. Additionally when they want your business they will be happy to talk with you on the phone. Good luck trying to get someone to answer after the move. Impossible!

Local move from Monaca, PA to North Wales, PA

Damaged grandfather clock.

I used Don Farr to move from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. I moved mostly boxes and just a few furniture items. The most important item that I wanted moved safely was the grandfather clock that I bought my late husband in 1981. It was his baby! I intended to give it to my daughter and her family for their home. The day the movers came to pack my house they could not get the weights removed so they decided that it would work if they just wrapped the weights. I questioned this but they said it would be fine. When my SIL came over to my new house to look at the clock he noticed that the bottom was broken. The weights had fallen and smashed the bottom dust cover and the weights were broken. Along with that they hadn't wrapped the pendulum (when they carried it in the house it was just wrapped in a rag) and that was ruined also. The finnial at the top is missing also along with a leveler on the bottom of the clock. In other words it is a mess! When I called the company to tell them, I was told there was no one available to talk with. After I insisted, I talked with Kevin who said to me "my issue is that it wasn't prepared properly to be moved. The weights should have been removed". They are the professional movers, aren't they? They should know that and should know how to move a clock! I filed the claim but had not taken out the valuation insurance which I don't think should matter in this case because it was not damaged accidentally - it was negligence on their part! I talked with a clock professional here and it will be over $1,000 to fix it properly and he was very surprised that a moving company would move a clock with the weights on. Of course, I can't check on the claim because I'm not able to talk with anyone and I haven't heard anything. Please, don't use Don Farr if you have something that is valuable to you because they really don't care.

A nightmare.

This was the worst move of my live and I have moved many times. The first day of the move the trucks did not arrive until 1:10 pm. There were supposed to be 4 men and instead there were 3. One man had a boot on his foot and up his leg from an injury, another was his first day on the job and knew nothing, and the third man does this part time. They had to complete the next day, Saturday, and did not deliver to my new location until Monday. Two large and expensive pieces are damaged beyond repair and other items are scratched and marked. I was very clear that we have big, heavy and expensive furniture. During the Monday delivery I asked the one man if the plan was to get everything into the house and then we could walk around and place boxes, etc where they belonged. He stated this was the plan. Later I walked outside and they were GONE. I called the company and they sent them back and they had an attitude. I had to physically go to their office twice because you cannot get anyone on the phone. I have filed the claim and now received an email that basically says they have 30 days to settle the claim. HORRIBLE. And there was a change on the bill of lading after I had signed.

I paid over $3,000 for this.

Wish I could give 0 stars.

As someone who has moved quite a few times, this is easily the worst moving experience of my life. Started with them showing up late with a crew of 3 instead of quoted 4. 2 of the men were inexperienced (which they told us multiple times) and required repeated direction from the crew leader which took significant time. Despite being told our drawers would remain in place and could be filled with clothing, these guys took each one out and piled it separately in the truck without covers, leading to dirt and filth all over our clothing. One guy injured himself while carrying our child's crib, but didn't bother to clean his blood off of it. We found this at the end of our 11 hour move day (we were moving a 3 bedroom townhouse down the street) while we were trying to get our son to bed. Queue the mad dash to find any kind of cleaning liquid in the pile of boxes that were left in the front foyer despite being labeled as boxes that should've gone upstairs. Nevermind going through what had been freshly laundered clothing that was now covered in dirt to find him something to wear to sleep. Multiple items were damaged. One of the movers spent more time "resting" than actually helping to move, leading my husband to start helping in order to get the day to finish faster. After all of this, and after the crew leader recommending we talk to customer service given we were "screwed over", all they offered was their lowest rate per guy for the entire 11 hours. We paid 800 dollars more than we were originally quoted. Absolutely abhorrent. We had used this service before and had been pleased with the move, but clearly you can't predict what you're going to get and they WILL NOT take care of you if your move was a disaster. I couldn't recommend against a company more than I recommend avoiding this disaster. Save your time, money, and sanity and find someone else.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Colorado

Cost more than the quote because of their mistake and extensive damage

I took out insurance from Don Farr, made a claim involving two damages bookcases, three damaged outdoor cast aluminum chairs, chipped picture frames, etc - all of which had been moved safely by other movers in four other moves. The company took months to process my claim and sent a check in exactly the amount of the premium - $500.

Also, months AFTER the move, they charged my $300 more than the final bill because they had to rent a straight truck which they KNEW beforehand. Stay aware and away from Don Farr.
