Cross Country Moving Group

TLDR: Moving company signed me into contract with an estimate of $8368.53. They changed the price to $17,538.35 after loading my things. Then tacked on another $2460 for storage (I wasn't given 1 month free even though it was in the contract). Feeling extorted.

Salesperson signed me into contract on May 5, 2020 to move my household from Lee's Summit, MO to New York on July 13 with July 14 as an overflow day for an estimated cost of $8368.53. I went over all of my possessions in detail and everything was listed in my inventory. I placed a deposit of $3967.41 with him at this time.

I went over my inventory again with Quality Control on July 10, 2020. He decided that the charge should actually be $10,500ish (I can't recall the exact amount). I paid an additional $1000 with him.

July 11, 2020 I received an email from customer service. It stated, "Your pickup is scheduled to take place Tuesday 7/14 between 9-12pm and the driver will call you 30 mins to an hour before arrival." I had planned all my appointments, cleaners, hotel reservations, etc around the original date I was told by salesperson. Customer service refused to revert my pickup to the orginal days, stating in another email, "It will take one day to load your items on to the truck, they will not need the two days. The two day window is for scheduling purposes, if they can not get you on the first day you have a backup day."

This close to my move-out date, there was nothing I could do. Also, I would lose the money I'd put down at this point ($4967.41) if I cancelled. On July 13, the moving company called and asked if they could push my move date back another day. Since the buyers of my house were getting keys on the morning of July 16, I declined.

The morning of July 14 came. I heard nothing from the movers. I called dispatch and was told they were almost there. They didn't show up until after 5 pm. Instead of a large crew and truck as customer service promised, it was 3 guys and a tiny truck.

After walking through my house, the moving team lead told me it was going to cost me more than I was told because of the heavy and bulky items, but he wasn't sure how much until he did the work. I tried to call about the change in price, but nobody answered. Again, no choice. I had to move forward with what I had. *Note, these heavy and bulky items were listed in my inventory with the original $8368.53 quote and should not have been a surprise to him.

Because of the additional delay in getting my household packed, my hotel reservations were set and nonrefundable. I left my neighbor in charge of the rest of the packing, which wasn't completed until 9:30 pm July 15. I signed the mover's paper before I left. He texted me a picture of the final invoice, with the new total reflecting $17,538.35.

I paid an addition $6,000 over the phone with the moving company on July 17. *They charged me a $250 processing fee for this as well. My husband and I voiced our unhappiness at the events and price changes up to this point and the moving company offered us $1000 off our total to "help us out." I don't remember the guy's name who made this offer to us. We never got the discount and they denied it was ever offered to us.

Delivery day finally arrives, scheduled for Oct 7. On Oct 5, the company called and said they could bring my things on Oct 6. I agreed. They did not give me a final amount due.

The movers called me on Oct 6 around 4:30 pm, telling me they would be there in about two hours and that $5300 was due. I verbally verified this amount twice. I went to get the money order. When they arrived, they wanted $9300 before they would unload. It took me 2 hours longer to get bank approval to purchase. Unloading didn't begin until 8:30 pm.

When I did the math on what they were now charging me with the payments I'd made, the final payment came to $9030, not $9300. I called again and was told by dispatch that she'd look into it tomorrow.

As of today, November 2, I have still not been able to discuss the final price discrepancies with this company. My broken and lost items remain unaddressed. I received some things that are not mine. My multiple phone calls go to voicemail and my voicemails are ignored. I'm feeling frustrated, angry, and extorted.

Move size: 4+ Bedroom Home Service cost: $20267

This company literally rewarded me with a big relief. I was getting really scared that I wouldn’t find a company that would charge me less than $4000 but here I am paying almost twice less than that! As for right now, we still haven’t moved my furniture because it’s scheduled for next week, but their customer service has been great and it’s just so easy to work with them. They surely want you to have the best loving experience. Once we finish with moving, I’ll give my opinion about this part too!

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2700

I found myself in a tough spot having to move back home from college. I didn't have anyone to help anywhere near me. With one phone call, and a long day my move was completed and I couldn't have been happier. It wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be and the experience was way nicer than ever imagined. My property wasn't anything expensive, and they're really wasn't a large quantity of it compared to most households. Yet, they acted as if it was special to them and understood how to value my possessions. When I spend my hard-earned money I'm always hoping to get this level of service. I'm very relieved and thankful.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2200

I have always dreaded moving for a few different reasons, the first being the initial headache of setting things up, the second being the cost if I decide to move out of town, and the third is my things potentially being broken. After doing some research, I came across Cross Country Moving Group and wow. Their service was everything I needed and more. From the moment I called to find out more about what they offered to the time my things arrived there was seamless communication with no confusion, great value AND best of all my things made it 1700 miles away without anything arriving damaged. I am grateful! Thank you Cross Country!

Move size: 4+ Bedroom Home Service cost: $3600

All moving USA and Cross Country. Do not use these companies! They are terrible! From the start I was quoted $2500 and it jumped to over $6000. The driver was not clear with me and had asked when I wanted my belongings delivered and not when was the available date to start moving. They picked up my stuff on 11/29 and I still have not delivered. I called all moving USA today and they texted me that they will not know anything until Thursday. The customer service has been terrible between them and the movers from cross country. When I called cross country over a week ago the lady on the phone was so rude. I have guests coming in this weekend for the holidays and I don’t have any furniture for them to sit or sleep on. I highly do not recommend these companies.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $6000

Having to relocate for work was already nerve-racking enough but working with Cross Country Moving Group quickly squashed my nerves. The clear pricing and knowledgeable staff really elevate Cross Country Moving Group above any other moving service. I had to move both my office and apartment to a new city and I learned in the past that when it comes to relocating, the moving service you choose is everything. With Cross Country, moving is everything! I had my own guidelines of which Cross Country’s staff were very accommodating. I required certain items to be overly secured to ensure safe travels to which the movers quickly and easily obliged. My being extra difficult (due to past moving nightmares), was greeted with patience and understanding from the staff. My office and apartment belongings arrived timely and safely without any hiccups! I was able to get back to work ahead of schedule which gave me the peace of mind I very much needed. When moving anything, Cross Country Moving Group is your one-stop-shop. I have recommended them to a few people, all of which had great experiences. These guys are the relief you need in a moving service. Squash your worries with the most professional, hardworking movers around.

Move size: Studio Service cost: $1800

Moving can be incredibly stressful, but moving my fiance from Milwaukee to Salt Lake City was completely painless with Cross Country Moving Group. They charged $1500 and everything was delivered without a hitch. They were spot-on with their scheduling and they even fit my king sized mattress in their moving truck. It's important to wrap things securely yourself to prevent damage from your items. Items will shift during a cross-country move, that's a fact. It's up to you to protect your things! I'm very happy with this service and will be using them again when we move back to Wisconsin.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1500

This company is fraud as soon as the movers get there they literally stop picking up your calls they act in the beginning like they truly care about your move cost & sanity . We had a estimate of 4,080 for a 2 bedroom apartment we called back because we added a washer and dryer and a bed just to be FULLY transparent with the movers . They said our cost may go up to 6k for 1200 square feet . Once they loaded the tuck the total cost was 8,200 !!!! They charge 2,700 for a binding fee also 4-500$ for packaging & bubble wrap which was told it came with the cost ! They also charged a extra 400$ for “bulk fee” because we had a washer & dryer which we told Jason the salesman prior which was included in the extra square feet ! We spent hours on several occasions going through EACH item on the phone so we wouldn’t have any surprises . The movers even felt bad they said the sales company just hires them & there estimates are always wrong.

They basically hold your items hostage after it’s loaded!! this was promised to be a easy move stress free its been nothing but a nightmare ! The movers who picked up our items are not the actual movers who delivery them they informed us they drive to a Sacramento warehouse drop our items off & wait for a new company to pick up items to go to Georgia . This was NEVER once explained to us !!

They also had some other family’s items in they truck prior so not only is it a stress of them mixing up our items with another but also the fact that our whole home will sit in a warehouse until they find a driver smh !

$8200 and they didn’t even Have room for my size bed that was accounted for . Please stay away from this company by all means !

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $8600

The best moving experience by far. They were very calm and enjoyable to work with as a moving company. Their quote was on the lower end which was amazing and of great value especially considering they were quick and safe with all my packages. They were very kind in planning and scheduling my move and were prompt and ready to work the day of the move. I think this will be my preferred moving method in case I ever would need to work once again but I don't see a reason why anyone would need to use a different company aside from Cross Country Moving Group.

Thank god for your company! I was looking for 2 bedrooms to be moved across town and I have no truck, car, or anything. I was able to call here and get everything sorted out in less than a week. I mean that is impeccable timing. They were courteous and as far as I’m concerned did a wonderful job. Nothing was damaged at all. No scuff marks and nothing missing. I value that and punctuality over everything, and they delivered 100%.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2100

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! Please believe the other negative reviews as they are spot on. I wish I could post my entire complaint as I detailed everything from the beginning, but Google said I've exceeded the maximum amount of characters, so I'll try to make it as concise as possible.

1) Movers said they would be there on 11/30 (I asked for 11/29 as our renters for our house were scheduled to move in on 12/1)

2) They didn't show up until 12/1. I was told they were still in Wisconsin when I was able to reach someone at noon on 11/30.

3) Took 12 hours to load and still weren't done. Had to come back on 12/2 to finish around 11am Renters were not happy. Quote for move went from the original amount of $4076 to about $6400 later that evening, and then a final quote of $9778 by later that night. I don't know how in 3 hours we accumulated $3700 worth of more boxes/furniture in our house.

4) Was told delivery would be about 2-5 days although they have 2-14 days.

5) I called after our closing in FL on 12/4 and was told it would be delivered between Friday and Monday the following week. I called that following Monday and was told the same thing. It will now be between Friday and Monday. They did this 4 weeks in a row. Received a call from the driver on 1/8/21 saying he would be there on 1/9, 39 days after they arrived at our house in Indianapolis. Nothing but lies and excuses when you are able to get in touch with them. They have caller ID and won't answer if they know it's you. I called from a different number and they answered. I also called the main number in FL and they were able to get in touch with the dispatcher in NJ. Once they have your money, they don't care anymore.

This is my opinion of the company, but everything I've written is based on fact, so if you choose to use them, best of luck to you. Read all the negative reviews first and you'll see a pattern. I'm in the process of posting everywhere I can including the BBB in hoping to get some sort of compensation. As of today, 1/8/21, they offered me $100. Yes, you are reading it correctly. They showed up on 1/9/21 and after everything was unloaded, they destroyed one of our suitcases, had 2 of the legs missing on our couch, all wheels on my daughter's night stand gone, crack in the frame of a large mirror, and all the nuts and bolts to my daughter's bed missing. And that's what we've discovered so far.

6) They are truly a bait and switch. They will quote a low price to sucker you in and once they arrive and it’s too late to get another mover last minute, they jack up the price. Once they have your belongings out of they house, they quote a final price which will be more than double the original. What do you do now? They basically have you held hostage and can charge what they want.

7) They lie about EVERYTHING from beginning to end, starting with the price and ending with the delivery date.

These guys did an outstanding job!!

I’ve always hated moving day. But these guys went above and beyond to make this a pleasant experience for me and my family.

They had good timing and displayed outstanding customer service. They handled all my things with TLC! The best part about it all, they even stuck around to help me unpack!

5 Stars isn’t enough for this review, I would give them 10 if I could! I want to recommend them to anybody who's willing to listen! Thank you Cross Country Moving Group!

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2800

These people are liars. I asked specifically if they are an actual moving company or a broker. They said they are an actual moving company with their own trucks. It's a LIE. They do not own one single truck! They claimed that my stuff would remain on the truck and proceed directly to the drop off location. Another LIE. Instead the truck went directly to a warehouse. They said that I could negotiate with the pickup driver as to the delivery date. LIE. He had no idea when it would be delivered. They said my stuff would be delivered between 2 and 14 days, most likely in the 4-6 day period. LIE. The real window is up to and beyond 21 "business" days. They are a despicable, dishonest and utterly disreputable organization.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $8000

I got a quote from cross country moving group for a move from Oregon to Connecticut this company picked up my stuff october 29th and delivered dec 18th, thats 49 days. They quoted me 21 business days . There were some items missing and some damage. Emails to the company have gone unanswered. Dont know what else to say besides I will never use this moving company again or any other moving company for that matter as it would simply be faster and cheaper to pile all my furniture in the driveway, burn it and buy all new stuff after.

ZERO STARS. Worst move ever. They low-balled the estimate then jacked it up $1000 the day of the pick up. The pick up guys were careful but took from 9:30am to 5pm to load - I’ve done the same move with the same items and it’s never taken more than a couple hours. They repeatedly told me they expected they could deliver in about 7 days but took 23. They called to tell me they would deliver Sat between 3-8 pm then called me at 7:30pm to postpone until Monday. They were 2.5 hours away and they knew when they weren’t en route they weren’t going to make the Saturday window but let me sit around waiting all afternoon and evening anyway. When they finally showed, they started unloading boxes all disorganized by hand dropping from truck to pavement with no ramp or hand trucks. The boxes were all smashed and torn and dirty. I’m guessing a lot of the damage took place when they unloaded and reloaded at their warehouse in PA. Whoever works in the warehouse appears to deliberately destroy stuff because when the guys picked up, all boxes were stacked by size and type so as to be easily moved by hand truck. When they arrived, they were in total disarray- stacked them every which way without care. They assembled a daybed incorrectly even after I told them how it’s supposed to go. They broke the lock on my sliding door somehow. I’m starting to unpack and of course lots of broken items despite being packed in bubble wrap, padding and newspaper. No packing could withstand whatever the heck they did to these boxes. I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve been through several long distance moves in the past 6 years because of work. I’m livid. I may update this review again as I’m not even sure all my boxes are here. Already know they lost one item - my own dolly/ hand truck disappeared in their warehouse apparently.Do not use this company!!!
