Long-distance move from New Jersey to North Carolina

Moving.

The job went really well for my move in early July 2014. The movers were all very professional and helpful.   The new place we moved to did not have their paperworks in place which caused unexpected delay of obtaining the keys that was out of our control.  However, the movers waited patiently while the building management sorted things out.  John, the leader of the movers, also the only English speaker, was very understanding and worked with us.  In retrospect I'm glad that I'd requested at least one English speaking mover prior to the move.   I have to give all of the movers on that day a perfect score on their professionalism and character.   I'd also like to thank Carlos at Cross country moving for keeping the promise of charging the fixed rate that was agreed upon before the move.   There were absolutely no hidden fees, charges or gimmicks with Cross country moving.  I would definitely hire Cross country moving in the future as well as recommending it to people I know.  Thank you again for your excellent service!

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Florida

Awesome experience.

Was extremely nervous about moving my 3 BR apartment (on the 2nd floor) from Jersey City.   I even took out extra moving insurance on my own just in case. Form was very easy to complete online.   You just need to make sure that you account for everything that you are moving. Peter and his crew were prompt, extremely professional, neat and courteous. I would use or recommend at any time.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Nevada

Highly recommended.

We hired this company for a move last November, 2013 to move stuffs in a 3-bedroom apartment and the property management gave us till 12pm to vacate the place or we'll be subject to penalty.  So Cross country moving said they will come in early.Day of the move came and I began to worry as they have not yet arrived on the agreed time.  After an hour late, 3 guys came in and I offered them breakfast - sure they were late, but that doesn't mean I have to rush them without breakfast.  They did go for coffee, but never touched the hotdogs (I think they're tired of it).  After that they got started.Boy these guys are fast!  They wrapped the sofa, the bed, boxed the wardrobe and moved all the furniture quickly but carefully.  They finished at 11am.  They were late by an hour and still managed to finish an hour early - must be the coffee! :) They also unpacked and unloaded all the things just as quick.  So by 2pm - move was done and all my things are accounted for. These guys work efficiently and nice to talk to.  Highly recommended.

Worry Free Move.

Thanks to Cross country moving and it's team of professional movers my move went quickly from them packing everything that I've accumulated over the past forty years, to unpacking and setting everything up in my new home with ease. I could not have been more appreciative of the carefulness, cleanliness, and professionalism of the Cross country moving that showed up for my move! I would defiantly recommend Cross country moving to anyone who is looking to move without a doubt!

Fantastic Moving Company.

We had the most wonderful experience with Cross country moving! The men who moved us were highly professional, quick and efficient. The only issue we had was that they were caught in traffic and showed up about 20 minutes late (which could happen to anyone) but someone called to inform me ahead of time so I was well aware of it. I couldn't have asked for better service! I highly reccomend this company. Thank you again!

Cross country moving.

My move went great. They gave me the best quote out of about four companies. I was hoping against hope that the $500 difference in quotes would not reflect the quality of the move. I was very pleasantly surprised. I would use these guys again. They arrived a little late, but barely stoped from the minute they arrived. The guys were polite, helpful and fast. No complaints.

Long-distance move from Minnesota to New Jersey

Excellent transaction!!

Hello all, I have used Cross Country Moving 4 times for all moves for the past 5 years and did recommend them to friends, family and neighbors for years. I recently moved again to Jersey City, NJ and was very impressed with the constant quality of the service, although the company has grown over the past 3 years. Customer services is their top priority, from the estimate on site, to the sales, follow-up with my landlords on insurance, the 4 movers who came and did a FANTASTIC job handing high end pieces of furniture and art collection with absolutely no damage. They assist me with placing the items. That level of attention often comes at her high price tag, but the cost was very competitive. Dean, Megan, Vaugh, Jhonatan and the movers thank you again !!

Moving a Piano with Cross Country Moving.

Cross Country Moving was scheduled  to move a baby grand piano and pulled through in spite of a storm.  They called first thing in the morning and offered to come earlier in the day, but I was on my way to work.  They were later delayed due to traffic and ice but they let me know and most importantly they did not cancel.  All four men were professional, hard-working and courteous.  They were sensitive to the owner who was giving up a family heirloom to make room for an ill family member.  The cost was in the normal range.  I would call them again. .

Long-distance move from Connecticut to New Jersey

A Fine Move.

We had two moves made with Cross Country Moving. The first to make room in our Jersey City home and move furniture to storage. The second day was to move from our Connecticut place to Jersey City.
The drivers for both contracts were both polite and called to advise us they were late leaving.  The moving team were professional and each person knew what they had to do. This made for an efficient and accomplished moving.
this was one of the best moves we have had!
Thank you and we will call you on our next move.
We recommend Cross Country Moving!

Totally worth it.

Best $2500 I have ever spent. In all my dealings with Cross Country Moving everyone was very professional, friendly and truly cared about making our move a success. The movers themselves wrapped all my furniture and also brought the boxes we needed (including wardrobes).
Seriously, if you have any doubts about this company, I hope this post helps lay your fears to rest.

Moving Professionalism.

My move was from one state to another and within 5 days of my meeting with the owner of Cross Country Moving , Dean. Dean gave me a better than fair quote for a two bedroom with very heavy furniture and a piano in a two story apartment. The men he sent to me worked efficiently, quickly, and also helped me to determine how to make this move happen within one trip. This was very important to me because I was to start working within 3 days after the move. And, after two days of steady packing, I was tired. On moving day the men completed my move within 6 hours, making one trip. They did this with compassion, understanding and the willingness to get it done right the first time. I have moved many times, having to pack it all, or having a company pack it for me. Cross Country Moving is a company that gives you a rock solid price and provides you with men who excel in completing your move with professional excellence. Choose them for your next move..they will meet your expectations and service you with professional excellence!

Used Cross Country Moving for 2 Moves.

We used Cross Country Moving for two different moves, a small office move and a medium size household move.

Both times, their prices were excellent, and their drivers/workers were professional and reliable.

Their customer service people were courteous, the movers were very hard working and flexible. They handled the move very well.

I would highly recommend them, and will use them again.

Liars and Thieves.

Liars and Thieves!!
First of all, they gave us a price of $1800 or so, it became $2600, they promised us our stuff will get to us with in 5 days, it got to us in 22 days. My husband went to his army base without his uniforms. The mover that came to give us our stuff, told me I have to pay him before I can get my stuff and if not he wouldn't give me my furniture. So I payed him, he unloaded the stuff and started to tell me I owe him more money for 2 stairs(like $300) When I didn't want to give him the money, he took my tv and left my couch out in the rain. He pulled a knife on my brother, things were very very wrong with him!
Read everything before singing anything with them they are liars. Don't believe anything they say. Must tell you I think all of the reviews are not real because there's no way it didn't happen to anyone before, it looks like they handle their business with understanding they are ripping people off.

Long-distance move from Baltimore, MD to Pittsburgh, PA

Do Not Use Under Any Circumstance!

When I first decided to hire movers I requested quotes from several companies online. CCM was the first to get back to me although I do not remember visiting their website. Nikki was extremely courteous and seemingly professional when reviewing my quote. I went over all of the belongings I had. I was already all boxed up. I am a single 30 year old living in a 1-bedroom apartment. I did not have a couch, boxspring, bed frame, tv, and had gotten rid of many of my belongings. She told me I would be charged by the cubic foot of items moved. She assured me that I was well below the cubic foot limit for my price range and could have even more items without going over. I was quoted at $1,183. She told me the only way I could go over was if the movers had to park far away I would be charged an extra $75, or if I had something huge and unreported like a piano. At this time I emailed her a picture of a check for $236.77 and was told I would owe $662.96 at pick up.

The movers arrived on August 21 at 6:30pm. I had packed my belongings well but the movers were slamming boxes on the ground that I had marked as “fragile” and turning them upside down. I heard glassware crashing. The movers were spitting inside my house. They told me I “looked like I was 22 years old” and kept asking where my boyfriend was. They kept asking if I lived alone because it looked like “something else lived there.” That is none of their business but honestly I don’t know what they meant as it is a small apartment and I barely had any furniture. Maybe it was because they thought I looked too young too live there alone, or they were planning to scam me.They were upset with me that I did not have water to give them. My entire house was packed up as I am moving states. I offered them my faucet and they would not look me in the eye. They then became upset that I did not have tools out to take apart furniture. Again, everything was packed, as I am moving. I was also told this was a full-service move and they would be able to disassemble furniture. They demanded that I ask my neighbors for tools. Luckily my neighbors were home.

The movers discouraged me from having them take a family heirloom mirror, implying that it would be broken. Luckily I am driving to my new home, I hope it will fit in my car.

The movers were in my house until almost 10pm. Once everything was loaded except my $2000 mattress, they came to me and told me I “had too much stuff.” They told me they had put smaller boxes inside of larger boxes to save space, which makes not sense. They told me I had over “70 items” which is impossible. He could not explain how he had calculated the cubic feet. Also this should have been able to be discerned before loading my belongings into the truck. He came up with a number about $1,900 and could not explain how he got it. Was totally insulting saying I was just not listening.

I took a picture of the packed truck which I have attached. It was definitely not packed in order to conserve space. Nothing was secured. My mattress was laying askew. I still do not know how the cubic feet could have been calculated especially with them adding larger boxes and just insisting that I had too many number of items. The number of items should not factor into the cubic feet. It is about space and not number of things. Putting things into larger boxes would have cut down on items, but not conserved space.

I was then pressured into signing a packing list that did not make sense after the truck was closed. I could not possibly have had chance to verify the numbers after it was packed. A friend of mine arrived at this time and the movers kept asking if this was my boyfriend.

#37 & 38 listed as “Stair”. I had 1 2ft wooden stair
#41 & 47 listed as “dishpack” I do not know what “dishpack” is.
#44 is “part”, I do not know what that is
#50 is “tv stand.” I do not have a tv or tv stand
#51 & 64 are “piece.” What are those?
#53 & 54 are “table.” #58 is “base of table” and #59 is “desk of table.” I only had one table.

I was told at this time I could give the original check I had made out for $662.96 and call CCM 8/22 to figure out the rest of the payment. The movers assured me this would not delay my delivery date if I worked this out 8/22 and I would receive an eta for delivery 24 hours ahead of time.

After they left I looked up reviews online for CCM and unfortunately realized that all are 1-star reviews. I have attached screenshots of these reviews. It seems it is common place for CCM to double the quote after loading, hold belongings for ransom, and deliver things months late and broken. This is classic bait and switch which is illegal. It is not my fault if CCM gives inaccurate quotes over the phone if I report everything correctly. At the least this should be corrected before loading.

The tools that the movers demanded I borrow from the neighbors were left strewn all over my floor. They also knocked a huge chunk of my wall out which they did not mention and I have enclosed a picture of.

At 9:30am on Aug 22 CCM called me for feedback on the pick up. I told them all of these things. They told me they would be reporting to the supervisor. They told me to call customer service which I did 1 800 755 6581 ext 3. I was told I was speaking to the Customer Service Supervisor. She had the report I had given earlier. I was told it would take 24-48 hours for them to receive the report from the movers and then they would call me. At 4:30pm I received an email quote for $1,938.35. I do not know where this amount came from.
I need this resolved asap as I begin work at my new job in Pittsburgh 8/27 and need my belongings.

On Aug 23 at 9am Ashley from CCM called me and said I needed to transfer a quickpay amount of $538 or the delivery would not be scheduled. I did this immediately. She said she would talk to her managers about my case and get back to me before the close of business.

At 12:45 I was called back. CCM said that the movers are “moving professionals” and know what they are doing and know how to calculate the cubic feet. She said they used a lot of extra packing materials that they didn't even charge me for to keep things safe?? So I should be happy I wasn't charged for that. She was extremely rude on the phone said I could file a claim later. Said I would be emailed within 24 hours of the delivery and that I would owe the remainder balance in cash. She could not account for the itemized discrepancies and just repeated that they are professionals and that I had “too many things.”

If their movers are professionals and able to eyeball cubic feet, why did they not inform me before loading? Why does CCM give quotes over the phone if they aren't accurate?

I'm sure my belongings will be broken on arrival. This is a company taking advantage of individuals in a stressful and compromised situation. I will be adding to the plethora of terrible reviews, reporting to the Better Business Bureau, and the Attorney General.

On Aug 24 I called to ask what the delivery eta would be. I was told that no truck had been routed yet and they had 21 days to deliver even though Nikki told me during tghe first call it woud be delivered Aug 24/25 and I have emails stating as such. I wired over another $250 today hoping it would expedite things.even though my initial call with Nikki she said Aug 24/25.

Why would I pay $2k to live without my stuff for a month? The move is only a 4 hour drive. Right now I'm panicking because I don't want to have to buy a new wardrobe to start my new job. I'd pay just to get my stuff back. This is preying on people in vulnerable situations. I never ever ever would have booked with ccm if I knew they were going to steal my stuff for a month and leave me broke. What's the point? What's the service? I could have rented a truck and paid 2 people to move and had my stuff next day. The excuses of “this is a professional moving company we have 21 days” is unreal. The reviews online - no one knew this was going to happen.

8/24 unable to get anyone on the phone all day. Voicemailbox full.

FRAUDULENT moving company.

Long-distance move from Perrysburg, OH to Milwaukee, WI

Worst Moving "company" Ever.

This company, and I use that term loosely, is nothing but a bunch of con artists. First they purposefully underquote how much the move will cost and how much space your stuff will take up. They do this because if they go over the allotted space estimated then they can charge double per square foot which the movers freely admit is done on purpose to get business and to make more money. This will nearly double your initial estimate. They also will promise that they can be there within a 2 day window and then fail to do so. Once it is time for delivery however, they will hold your items ransom until you agree to pay whatever it is they want. They won't even schedule the delivery until you wire them an additional $1000 just to schedule a drop off. Then they will charge you with a "shuttle" fee because they say their driver can't park a semi near my apartment due to an inability to do so however, I had written permission from the complex and a large spot on the side of the road marked off for them that was easily parkable. Refused to come despite having no idea what the parking was like. Once I finally complained long enough and got a minor discounted fee, the workers state that they were told they have to do the shuttle fee. State that they easily could have parked a semi in the designated spot but were told only to pick up a shuttle vehicle. Then they will charge you a walking fee because it is more than 50 feet. All of this is in their contract which is extensive and full of fine print that they do not explain to you and is very misleading. Finally, after having to pay more than double what I was initially quoted I had my things. Only to find out that multiple boxes had gone missing, over half the plates and glasses were smashed, a bookshelf destroyed, and multiple pieces of furniture with new dents, cuts and scrapes. Informed the company who refuses to address your complaints and end up in a never ending call that leads to no where.

This company is fraudulent in everything that they do. They purposefully mislead consumers about pricing, availability, and customer service. Will ultimately hold your items as ransom until you give in to their payment demands. They also do an extremely poor job of moving and damaged and lost multiple items. This is by far the worst experience that I have ever had with a company. Do not under any circumstances, book this moving company. They will take you for everything they can and you will regret it immediately.

Do not trust their estimates - I paid almost triple in the end. The customer service is horrible and the managers are so rude. Long-distance move from Salem, SC to Erie, PA

Con and scam.

I contacted Cross Country Moving and Storage out of Rockville, Md Phone 800 755 6581 for a move and ask for a 28 foot truck, seeing that is what I had to move to salem about 3 years ago for about $2300 from Erie to salem. I packed and loaded the container at that time. I explain to Paul Suuivan I was no longer in the condition to do so and needed a complete moving job, which included packing loading and unloading. I was assured the cost would be $3358 and than would be no extra charges. When the driver came in, he quoted $100000 for the move, My wife had 80% of the item packed. He dropped the price to $6000. I told him to get lost. But was over ridden by my wife. When I left the room the driver demanded $500 before he would start loading the truck. That made the cost of the move to $6500. Than the fun began. The driver called the next day that he would be at the apartment a 5 pm the same day July 14 or the day after the move. He didn't show up. The main office gave us the run a round and the driver would not answer the many calls. My daughter called the SC State Police. We than got a call on Sunday July 15 and was told he would be there at 8 AM He did not show up until approx. . 11:30 demanding another $2000 that would have made the cost $8500 from the $3358 that I was quoted. My son refused to give him the extra money. Remember this is all cash. My daughter had to jump in front of the truck to stop him from driving off with my belongings as she called the police. They were there in 3 minutes and forced the driver to unload the truck. And told us it was a civil matter and we had to give him the $3420 to bring my cost up to the $6500. The driver refused to give us a receipt. The police force him to. Our belonging ended up on a hill side out in the open with a threat of rain, which it did. Thanks for good neighbors in the towers, which is a 45 unit complex we got our belongings inside with very little rain damage.
I did call the Federal Department of Transportation and the Federal Trade Commission and filed a complaint Plus the states Attorney generals in SC and Pa.
The reason I hired this company, The Rockville BBB gave it a A+ rating. What a
joke.
They did not load all of my belongings, After they said they would.

Long-distance move from Connecticut to Alabama

Excellent Service!!

From start to finish this was a very pleasant company to deal with. My flat rate quote was very competitive, and the salesperson took his time to make sure he had a solid understanding of my  belongings to avoid surprises.  On the day of the move, I was contacted early in the day to confirm the times. I was told there might be a couple hour  delay due to the hurricane 3 days prior. This was greatly appreciated so that I could plan accordingly.  The guys showed up at their (adjusted) time, and had my stuff loaded in no time. They arrived on time to my destination, and had everything into my apartment within an hour. The guys even helped me assemble some furniture, which was not originally something we talked about.  This moving company goes above and beyond to make sure they communicate well, and take extra care of your belongings. Many companies would have cancelled my move due to the storm aftermath and long gas lines, but these guys made the extra effort and did not ask for anything above the quoted price. I'd highly recommend them to anyone who needs a mover in the tri state area. The best part is that their quote is ALL INCLUSIVE so you know for sure there would not be any surprises. .

Fantastic Movers.

I was so satisfied with the quality of the service provided by Cross country moving that I used the company twice within 18 months. Both moves, one within Jersey City and one from Jersey City to Maine. The movers are quick, efficient, knowledgable about how to properly package and store furniture, and handled my belongings and furnishings with great care. I was impressed with the company's attention to my phone calls and questions. The owner and his support staff are easily accessible by telephone and email. The movers themselves were friendly and amenable to suggestions that I had regarding how I wanted certain items moved and packaged. Two Great Experiences.

I have used Cross country moving twice now, one move within Jersey City (October 2011) and most recently from Jersey City to Virginia (November 2012).  Both moves were on time and very reasonable flat rate for a two bedroom apartment Crew does a great job of disassembling/reassembling, wrapping furniture and TVs, etc.  No damage, and absolutely no "nickel and dime" attitude - they take care of everything for the quoted rate. Would definitely recommend and use again. .

Cross country moving.

Dean's willingness and flexibility to accommodate our less than fixed inventory of items to be packed and moved was what sold us on choosing his company among others from whom we had received estimates (all the estimates were within $125).  His flat fee estimate was $3,200 and included everything - no extras before or after. We had unfortunately scheduled a move for the week after Super Storm Sandy. Dean with great good will was able to make our move although I fear with difficulty and possible hardship on his side.  His people were professional, courteous and caring.  All items (with one minor exception) arrived at the destination unscathed and complete and within the allotted time frame (our building is very strict with the time for all move-ins).  It was a pleasure dealing with a company and people who said they would take care of us and our goods and really live up to their word. Thank you, kudos and the highest recommendations to Dean and the people at  Cross country moving.

We generate average normalized moving cost based on information submitted by people who have reviewed Cross Country Moving & Storage. Take note that these prices may vary from the prices you will get if you contact the company, since these costs are based on reviews data and not the movers themselves. The market averages are generated from reviews on our review sites from the last 3 years. To get more precise moving quotes, please consider using our moving estimator.
