Long-distance move from Maryland to Florida

Cross Country Movers-Worst Movers Ever!

WORST COMPANY EVER!  I researched the Internet for reputable companies, and Cross Country Movers had a stellar reputation.  So I chose them, not knowing what I know now, to transport my goods from Maryland to Florida.  I worked with "Wesley," a very friendly person who offered me numerous discounts to sign with his company.  I was fooled.  They are really All USA Van Lines, the worst company ever!  I did sign with them as Cross Country Movers.  I provided a list of my furniture and boxes, and got an estimate of approximately $1600.  I paid them a deposit, and everything seemed to be good.  On the moving day, "David" from All USA Van Lines showed up with a tiny truck and two guys.  I was very apprehensive.  This was not the company I had contracted, but Cross Country assured me this was their subsidiary company.  The minute David, a native of Israel (not the US), walked into my home, he said my move was going to cost $390 more.  I could not understand how he came to this extra figure because he had been in my house for less than a minute.  He claimed that it would cost extra to wrap my two mirrors and that my king-size bed, which was listed on my estimate, had a headboard and footboard.  Of course, it did.  That's the bed.  So I called Cross Country and got the run-around with the dispatcher.  "Wesley" was on vacation.  I was told, in no uncertain terms, that I had to pay the extra amount, or the truck would leave without picking up my goods.  I had less than a week to get to my new job in Florida, and felt like I was being held hostage.  I agreed to pay the extra, and then they loaded the truck up.  Towards the end of loading the truck up, David told me that he and his workers expected a 15% tip, and that they expected that I would pay them before they departed for Florida.  I didn't have the tip money.  I just had to pay an additional $390, so I didn't have money to give them a tip.  David told me to go to the bank and withdraw it.  I left them, and went to the bank.  But it took me a while, and by the time I returned, they were gone.  I had to get moving to Florida, so I left within a couple of days.  I arrived on Thursday, and they were scheduled to deliver my goods on Friday.  I had to start work at a new job on Monday.  They never called me, and I waited Friday, Saturday and Sunday for them to deliver my goods.  No one took my call at Cross Country Movers or All USA Van Lines.  Late Sunday afternoon, in a panic, I went to Sears and bought myself a $150 suit, so I had something to wear on my first day at work.  All of my clothes - and furniture  - were on the truck. I also had to buy towel, washcloth and soap. I reported to my first day of work wearing a cheap suit.  All of my expensive suits were still on the truck.  A month later, after sleeping on the floor for 30 days, I finally got my stuff.  Some of it missing.  Most of it damaged. I have filed a complaint but alas now I'm getting a run-around now. Don't book with them! You'll be sorry.

Long-distance move from Georgia to Washington

Negligent move, belligerent driver.

My movers, ALL USA Van Lines, who work with Cross Country Movers, had one month to deliever my furniture and barely made the cutoff date. This, however, is not my primary complaint. Upon arriving the truck driver refused to give me his name. The other workers were young kids who had been hired off of Craig's List. The driver never carried any furniture into the home himself. There was some damaged furnite, which is to be expected, but the uninsured workers also scratched up the brand new wooden floor in our new home. The driver said the scratches were already there, although they were not and we took before pictures so we are able to demonstrate this. Moreover, any time my wife would use her camera to take a photo of or record damage the driver - who refused to divulge his name - would threaten to stop the move and drive off with our stuff. We paid for a full service move, which included - as I have confirmed with Cross Country Movers - the reassembly of furniture, I.e. legs back on tables, beds reassambled etc. I asked the driver beforehand if he was going to do this and he said 'yes.' Yet, when it came time to reassemble furniture the driver did not even have a screwdriver, let alone a drill, so I have no idea how he thought he was going to do this. All of the sudden, without a word mentioned to us, the driver came in the house and whispered something in the workers' ears. They all began to leave even though nothing had been reassembled. I quickly ran outside to ask him what was going on and he ignored me repeatedly as he got into the truck to drive away - without yet paying the workers either, by the way, who were waiting outside also hoping that he did not drive off. I stood below him as he was in the truck so that he could not yet shut the door to drive off. I kept asking him why he was not finishing the job. Eventually he replied, and I quote, "Because I don't want to." True story. My wife came over with her camera to record the transaction. As I moved to call the police the driver began to slam the door on my wife and my 6-month old baby whom she was carrying on her chest in a Bjorn!! This, naturally, made me livid. The police came but said they could do nothing because it was a domestic dispute. I filed a complaint with MovingClaims.net. The complaint first came back for $84.00, which was to cover damaged furniture. That is all well and good except that is less than what we paid extra for the reassembly of furniture which was in our contract but never compledted, it provided no money for our scratched floor and it still did nothing nor provided the name of the belligerent driver who nearly slammed a truck door on my 6-month old baby. I rejected this claim and sent it back. I received another offer of $84.00 plus $30.00 more for our hassle. Again, $114.00 does not even come close to covering the cost of our woodfloor, which had just been redone for a little more than $5,000. And it mentioned nothing about nor provided the name of the belligerent truck driver. I rejected this and am now writing this review. To this day I still do not even know the name of the truck driver though I have requested it in every letter, every email and every phone call made to the company or to MovingClaims.net. This was a terrible experience and I warn one to stay away from Cross Country Movers and All USA Van Lines.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to Kentucky

Do Not Hire This Company.

This is the most unprofessional company I have ever had the displeasure of working with.  They had good reviews online, so I used them to move my household from North Carolina to Kentucky summer 2014.  I used their help to fill out an online inventory to obtain a quote.  They estimated my cubic feet and weight and provided a quote.  I had other quotes from moving companies including a couple who came to my home for the inventory.  Cross Country Movers' quote for cubic feet, weight, and price was competitive with all the others.  I chose them because they had good online reviews.  WORST mistake I've made all year. I provided a pickup date and a delivery date online, but their customer service department called me and I confirmed it then as well.  I paid my deposit over the phone.  I did not hear from the company again until the night before the pickup.  I received a call at 6pm informing me that they needed to pick up my furniture a day early and they would be there between 8 and 10 the following day.  I did not appreciate the short notice, but I made it work.

The All USA Movers arrived at 10 in an Enterprise truck.  I assumed Cross Country Movers hired some contractors.  The driver did a walk through the house with me.  He repeatedly told me that whoever assisted me online did not know what they were doing, because their estimate was way off.  When I told him that their weight estimate matched every other company, he told me that they don't go by weight, they use cubic feet, and even though the weight might be in the ballpark, the space was not.  I should have asked them to leave, but I was on a deadline.  After they loaded 75% of my items, the driver then told me that the truck was full.  If I wanted him to take the rest of my stuff it would cost me an additional $1500.  I felt I was in a no win position, so I paid in full.  The actual cost was 50% more than the original quote!  After the rest of my items miraculously fit on the already full truck, the driver then asked me for a tip.  He wanted cash, or a check written to cash so that the company wouldn't get the money.  The driver did confirm my delivery window and said in his opinion; it should be easy, because it was on a regular route.  He was wrong.

My delivery window came and went.  I took a week off work to settle in and unpack, but have been in my new place for 3 weeks without belongings.  I have called the company several times and never get to speak to a human being.  The person I am trying to reach is “on another call and will return your call.”  No, they never do.  I received a call from the company one evening and was told my stuff would be delivered the next morning.  I explained the delivery was out of window and I was out of state.  They said I had three options:  meet the truck for delivery, have my stuff stored and rent a UHaul at my expense to move it, or they would store it and deliver it later for an additional $1200.  I called a friend to meet the truck.

The driver told me friend that they would not unload my stuff because there were stairs in my new home!  My contract says one flight of stairs is included, additional stairs would be $75.  The driver said, they would unload my stuff in front of my house unless I paid $225 CASH!  I argued the contract said $75, and he could not explain why he wanted $225.  I called the company, but continued to get VM.  After leaving a nasty message (unlike me), I did reach someone.  They could not explain why the driver wanted $225, but suggested I pay it or he would leave my stuff in front of my house.  I said I would pay the $75, but only by credit card, and only to the billing department, not to the driver personally.  I got the number for the billing department, but once again, never got to speak to a human.  I finally gave up and paid the cash.  Now it is my mission to make sure NO ONE gets taken by this company ever again!

Long-distance move from Washington to Florida

Do Not Use Them.

My admin, to her great regret, chose Cross Country Movers after some Internet search. She neglected to search the BBB and Yelp. These guys, are completely clueless and do nothing but schedule your move, without talking to the actual dispatchers.Actual dispatchers never answer the phone, NEVER. Never return calls. Never tell you the truth.
The real company here is ALL USA VAN LINES, and they have the worse reviews I have EVER seen.
The reason that they use the Cross Country Movers name is so that their true nature will not become evident until you actually commit and pay to them.
A day before the move we had a driver call to confirm he was showing up.On the day of the move he doesn't show up. No one calls us or offers an alternative - we have to book another day at a hotel, move our tickets to the next morning (only one flight a day from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale on Alaska), and pay penelty to our landlord for not vacating the apartment on time. After all this, you'd expect they be on time, right? no, the next morning when I call Cross Country (speaking to nice, young, clueless guy name Joseph) I'm told the have no idea when the driver will be there. "We'll get back to you in 30 minutes." An hour later, actually, many hours later it turns out that the move will not happen at all, and that I have to wait for two or three days for the move."It happens, there is nothing we can do" .

About house hold & car shipping.

This is about both my household shipping & my car shipping. This cross country movers company has the worst service I have ever seen. I personally I don't recommend to choose this mover's packers. They don't even know how to give good service to the customer. They are not at all prompt in their job. Always they are saying about the documents you have signed. Very bad!

Nightmare.

Cross Country Movers located in Philadelphia, PA. USDOT 2780116

I'm someone that always believe that in any business you will find mixed reviews but please hear me in this one , Save your self a lot of headache do not use this company .
Everything started with a sales man named Josh josh@moving-reservations.com no last names, he provided us with a "price, not an estimate" his words.

obviously everything is part of the set up , once the movers arrived they gave us another "estimate" , when we tried to locate Josh , they told us this was his day off an another guy James , said that as the sales-man are not in the place they can only provide with estimates.

The great advantage for them is that when they provide you with an itemized "price" the price for sq cubic foot is $4 usd , once they get to your place and the movers quote you then the price goes up to $6 usd.

we spoke to the company and gave us a credit of 150 USD by a Mrs Brittany , and that we should discount that from the last payment.

Once we were in our new house first the truck driver called us and said that his truck couldn't enter into the neighborhood (size) and that we needed to pick up our stuff from a storage unit. ( our neighborhood has no limitations whatsoever ) when we told him we spoke to the city and that there was no limitation he decided to drive finally to our house.

Once in our house we found 50% of our stuff broken or damaged , our boxes opened horrible.

Last but not least when we explained the driver that we had a discount of 150 USD he said that he was an independent contractor and that he knew no josh , james and that he was not going to unload our things .

This company is full of liars.

Great service.

I have went through cross country movers for assisting me in my move. I am a single person with little family in town. To be able to count on them to make this move as easy as possible. For moving my 2 bedroom and the area I was in, it was only around $3500 to be relocated. I could not have done this move as cheap and as hassle free as it was with any other moving company here in town. The customer service was great and fast. I have always worked in customer service so that is one big thing I look for if I give you my business and that is exactly what I got! Thank you so much Cross Country Movers Inc!

Cross country Movers.

This company has add fees at every turn. When the show up at my home the movers did not have the Necessary Tools needed. They had to borrow tools from me to do their job. I had contracted for them to take apart and move a full size pool table and ended up happening to take it apart myself. Now two weeks after picking up my things and 9 days after my delivery date they say that a tractor trailer can not unload at my complex. They say that they have software that tells them this and will be charging me $500 dollars more than contracted. Tractor trailer have and do off load at this complex all the time. The truck driver called to say he was loading a small truck at there storage Facility. Now a Supervisor calls me to tell me that they had to rent a small truck to bring my thing and if I do not first pay the the extra $500 they will hold my things Hostage. This is my 10th move in twenty year. I'm in the hospitality business and move alot. I have never experienced anything like this before. Please know that Cross Country Movers will break every promise that they make and when you ask to be put in touch with there boss they will tell you that they are the last word in the matter.

Long-distance move from Jacksonville, FL to North Ridgeville, OH

Disappointment & Aggrevation from Start to Finish.

Long-distance move from Jacksonville, FL to North Ridgeville, OH through the North Miami office. Scheduled for Friday pickup, then received call Thursday night telling me that they wouldn't be available until Saturday or Sunday. While waiting for delivery I received an email informing me that payment must be made by Postal Money Order when I had been told that it could also be made by Zelle. I was under quarrentine when I returned to Ohio from Florida, so had to break quarrentine to go to the Post Office. When the truck and my belongings arrived the following Sunday we were ready to get things underway. The driver hit an overhanging tree when he backed into the driveway. When he opened the back of the truck it became evident that the truck had been repacked since leaving Jacksonville because boxes were crushed, on their side, and upside-down. Furniture was placed upside-down in the truck, on its side or balanced on two legs. The first piece of broken furniture we were told, "take a picture, that what insurance is for". I took many pictures that day. Two loads of boxes fell off the dolly when moving them down the ramp. When leaving, the driver hit the treelimb again, then backed up and drove through the front yard. Wish I had seen these other reviews before signing up with this company.

Long-distance move from Philadelphia, PA to Boston, MA

Aggravating and stressful.

Medium distance move from Philadelphia, PA, to Boston, MA, through the Miami Office. We experienced many of the issues that other reviewers have already expressed on this site. Here are the main ones:

Tardiness: scheduled a pickup in the afternoon (3-7 pm), but movers showed up at around 9:30 pm.

Extra fees/lack of transparency: per their instructions, we packed everything (with the exception of furniture) into boxes. When the movers arrived, they claimed that many of our boxes were too small, and needed to be put into larger ones. Of course, we had to pay extra money for larger boxes. None of these rules were listed on their website, or were made clear to us in previous conversations.

Lack of professionalism: while loading our belongings, the movers showed little regard for handling boxes with care, despite us asking them to do so. Instead, they laughed off our concerns.

Summary: avoid CCmovers. They are a brokering company, meaning that they assign the actual moving job to other companies -- ours was called US movers based in Texas. Thus, it is very difficult to get hold of people to ask about your move. Our calls to CCmovers were all forwarded to US movers, resulting in delays in communication.
