20% breakdown rate

Ah yes, your empathetic, courteous not at all condescending response to a customer complaint almost 365 days later was very helpful. As a legitimate, thoughtful business owner, one would think the owner would acknowledge past clients concerns, comments, grievances, etc and address them to try to make their own business better and improve their customers experience. But hey, I guess that’s why I had to lawyer up to finally get a resolution… and trucks break down 20% of the time as you say.

Your consistent negative reviews (minus the ones you’ve clearly scrubbed) and blanket company rebranding make sense.

A Real Eye Opener

WoW, they turned what should have been an easy, exciting move for us, into an ordeal for us a really bad experience. I am fully aware of contracts I am in real Estate, but come on, a 200 hundred mile move started at $4000 ended up $12k said no leave please then suddenly it went down to $4900 this really is whatever traffic will allow. They purposely bury all the added fees on the 6 pages of the contract. Who would have thought they would charge extra for having more then 7 stairs. They all have this scam down to a science. Broker blames carrier and carrier blames broker and in the end nobody takes responsibility. It really is no wonder these places come and go, it’s much easier to rely on family, friends, and u-haul. What a shame! Customer service not good.

Throwing money away. Don't get scammed.

Compass Van Lines over quoted me telling me that they "had to over quote me due to DoT lawsuits" and that I'd "get credited back for any space not used on the truck". They'll deny saying this obviously since it was a phone call. This was after locking me in at a lower price by signing a contract and paying 40%. They gave me a rate of $8/cubic ft. and didn't use 111 cubic feet (the driver and I took measurements). They refuse to credit me back the $888, saying that I signed a contract. I had to sign the contract to lock in the "estimate". Everything on the contract says "estimate" but it was in fact NOT an estimate, but the final balance owed. They claim that they overquote so that I don't get surprised by having to pay more when they deliver if I take up more space. This implies that they would measure the space and adjust my balance if the quote was too low, but I guess it only works one way-- as long as they get more money. Compass is also a broker company, which means they aren't the ones moving you. DO NOT sign anything until you are sure that you want to pay what they are quoting you because you will not get any of that money back. This is written halfway down a 21 paragraph "contract" that they know no one reads. I basically gave them $900 for absolutely nothing (reserving space is not an excuse. Space wasn't used>give money back. Simple). They will say anything and act nice to lock you into a contract and act annoyed and dodge your calls when you call them after the move.

Odd find: Search "Compass van lines" on google maps and also search "Inbox & More Pack Ship & Print Business Center" on google maps. Both have the same address and both say they're "open" so one is lying...

A NOTE FOR THOSE WHO WERE UNDER QUOTED: I can understand people being upset for having to pay more than they were quoted, but what you don't realize is you're invalidating the argument of people like me who paid for nothing. Companies can't get estimates right 100% of the time (that's why they're called estimates). In my experienced opinion, it's normal to end up paying more or less than what is quoted. It's when the quote is very far off or they don't reimburse you/credit you back. The reason I say it "invalidates" our argument is because if there are a large number of people complaining that they paid too much, the companies then start over quoting others to avoid these complaints, and due to their policies, those who are overquoted lose money. Underquoted customers get what they pay for, while overquoted customers lose money and get nothing in return.

Bait and switch company

These are brokers not movers. They take your money and then. Subcontract with subpar movers. Paid $3000 deposit - learned reputable movers don’t take deposits only money when the job is complete. Did a verbal review of belongings - should be in person or on video - give a binding estimate - then 3 days before move say they want to go over move and say you need to pay more. Cancelled the move but not before comp y charged my card for over $4500 dollars. Supposed to get $1500 back. I will believe it when I see it. Complained to credit card co, Opened a dispute. Avoid at all costs is my advice.

They take advantage of the unknowing and are relentless.

Amanda at Compass Vanlines continuously called me sometimes even twice in one day even after I told her we didn’t have a set moving day yet. Finally,I got pressured into setting a date and paying my deposit.

As moving day approached, I spoke with Aleena who continuously spoke over me, interrupted me and put me on hold multiple times without warning. Her excuse was she was helping other customers - I too was a paying customer. The day after we finalized everything (with some strong arming) I had an unexpected event happen in my family and had to cancel the move. I called and I quote the response I got “Good morning, Melanie - click” they greeted me by name, put me on hold and did not come back. I tried calling multiple times after that with no success in reaching anyone.

This company is horrible.

Horrible! Worst experience ever!

First off this horrible company has switched their name to True American Van Lines! Whatever you do don’t ever hire them! It’s a scam and they lie! Just like every bad review same thing happened to me except I caught on before it was too late! They tried to strong arm me but that wasn’t going to work I fell for their little scheme once but not again! I’m not stopping I’m reporting them everywhere I can! And like others have said they should be in prison! Jake, Chris, and all your other little scum bag workers… well you all SUCK!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY

How can I leave ZERO stars?? Illegal practices, scam artists, terrible customer service. Dishonest and deceitful business practices. Our cost significantly increased despite a very tedious inventory that we did with them twice. They are impossible to get in touch with AFTER you sign the contract. Once you are unhappy, you can forget it. They do not even pretend to resolve your concerns. Forget about being treated as a customer who is paying them substantial money, try just being treated as a human being. Their MO seems to be to offer an embarrassingly small amount of money (~$120) if you agree not to post negative reviews anywhere. They lost nearly $5000 of our boxes. They can keep their $120.

Great Job!

What a great experience! I have used professional movers in the past and have never seen a crew that dissassembled the furniture as well as wrapping everything and padding our doorway and floors so well. These guys were great! I was impressed with the quality work. Thank you Daniel and your crew for not breaking anything! -Robert.
