Long-distance move from Sun City West, AZ to Vaughn, WA

Worst moving experience EVER

I hired this company to move my furniture from Sun City West - Arizona to Vaughn - Washington. They used the Movers Van Line company located in Las Vegas - Nevada.

Twelve ( 12 ) items out of 61 were damaged : 20 % !!!! The damage went from severely scratched to badly destroyed for three of the 12 items . This looked more like vandalism than normal mishap . Even the team that unloaded our truck at arrival pointed out the damage to us and told us that they had never seen such a disaster. The movers evidently did not care about the furniture neither our belongings . TOTALLY unprofessional . I sent pictures with thorough description of the damages and the related item numbers corresponding to the Bill of Lading three times to Movers Van Line . On June 26 I filed a formal claim . On August 26 , two months later, I got an e-mail from the insurance company CSI asking me to describe again the issue : pictures , correspondence of the items to the Bill of Lading and description of damage !!! I refused to spend more time on this serious issue that would most probably never find a resolution as this insurance is starting what usual insurance companies do : finding all possible loopholes to avoid to pay for anything.

I had thirteen ( 13 ) moves in my lifetime , of which 5 international ones. I never had such terrible experience. You love your furniture ? STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY .

DO.NOT.USE THEM.

Many instances have not followed FMCSA guidelines and left me feeling very uneasy including:Differing physical addresses for Compass Vanlines online and conflicting information from my Moving Consultant. The website clearly states this is a company based out of Illinois but I was told it is based out of Florida.Iwas not informed upfront of the Carriers your company contracts with. When I did request this information, I was sent a link for moving company reviews. Per FMCSA guidelines, this information is supposed to be provided upfront. I was told I would receive a call Monday to confirm my move, which I did not. I had to repeatedly call Monday and Tuesday to get a hold of anyone. This put me past the 72 hr window of when I can cancel and receive a refund. On Wednesday when I finally reached someone in Customer Service, I was told the company hired for my move was Premier Relocation Services. I requested contact information and their DOT number. The Customer Service rep said they did not have DOT #, only phone # 616-606-0363. When I called this number, it did not seem legitimate as it is a Google phone #. When I did more research, I found that Premier Relocation Services 616-606-0363 is not authorized to carry per FMCSA.

Today, two guys in a BUDGET RENTAL TRUCK showed up unexpectedly. Even after written instructions to cancel my move and with no call to schedule the move. Two random dudes show up IN. A. BUDGET. TRUCK.

Official company response

Information within this review is false. The company Premier Relocation that we assigned to this job is not the company you posted a screenshot of. The correct Premier Relocation Services that we work with is DOT #3370214. They are active and licensed to transport household goods. We only allow carriers that are licensed and have a good track record of successful business into our network.
In the moving industry, carriers use rental trucks all time. It doesn't matter if they own new trucks or old trucks, They all break down 20% of the time. Which in that case the companies rent trucks so that you as a customer don't have a delay of service.

Successful Cross-Town Move!! Thank you!

Aviad was able to document and give us a very detailed estimate when he visited my parents house in person. My parents were very impressed with him, and he seemed to be a very down to earth guy from the start.
The moving crew were great, showing up early to survey the situation along with Aviad to make sure things went smoothly, and moving in the blazing summer heat.  They carefully wrapped all breakable materials, and was prepared for every situation/corner/staircase that stood in their way.
I was impressed that ALL our items made it without a scratch to our walls or the item. The move was done with plenty of time to spare for us to relax the rest of our day by unpacking.
Aviad even called me to let me know that the guys were close to our place while they were in transit. They had lunch during the move, and they were sure not to count this time against us. Very honest and thorough movers here.  I would recommend him and his team to anyone.

Long-distance move from Texas to Arizona

Compass Van Lines.

We have moved across the country 5 times in the past. We used Compass Van Lines in Austin, Texas for our 6th.  They underestimated the load. The packer told us that Avi would have them load everything and then tell us it would be more money after they loaded the truck. That's exactly what happened.  It was over $3,000 more.  They dropped an end table down the steps. It scratched and dented in the wall.  They had to have cash on delivery.  We had so much damage it was ridiculous. We only asked them to take care of about 4 items. They cracked a piece of granite. That was not taken care of. They shattered the glass on a picnic table.  Not take care of.  My husband's Harley was badly damaged. Our insurance company went after them for that.  Don't know the result.  My grand piano would not close and was badly scratched. They paid $65 to the cheapest repair place they could find.  We downsized a lot so many, many items we did not ask for reimbursement.  We didn't have the room anyway.  For ex: They busted an entire leg off one of 10 dining room chairs. Every small table they moved was damaged, probably about 4 or 5. About every 3rd glass I unwrapped was busted. Didn't ask for reimbursement because I had no room for it anyway. However, I have never seen this much damage by any moving company. I read terrible reviews about them before I chose them because some reviews were great.  You really should pay attention to the bad reviews and go elsewhere. This was so bad that when I got on this site, I couldn't believe what I was hearing.   The packers were all very nice. We did get screwed, though, just like our head packer told us.  He was actually crying when he brought me the phone to talk to his boss about more money AFTER they loaded the truck.  He probably does that with everybody.  He did try to warn us.  We were just too trusting to believe it.  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! YOU WILL BE SORRY. I think they probably paid the good reviewers to say good things about them. Being totally honest, here! Pictures only worked for 1 photo?
I tried posting several but it will only repeat one picture. Hm!

Long-distance move from Lorton, VA to El Paso, TX

Scam—taken Advantage of

I am sitting at my Public Storage now negotiating another $10-15,000 for the movers that Compass booked to load my things, on-site, nothing has been moved yet. Quote from Compass was apparently wrong & I have to pay more yet Compass has $6,500 of my money for what? I have spoke.n with 6 different people and no one who originally negotiated the deal is available. Seems like one big call center where all they do is transfer you to another agent but no actual one person is managing the contract. Complete disaster from ‘the price will not change’ to now you have to pay $10,000 more to get your stuff moved. For that much I can rent the trucks, movers & gas on my own but still have $6,400 to Compass (for what) to try and get back. Very disappointed that this would happen in this day and time. Come ‘on guys—I thought you were getting your reputation back. Just horrible!

Do Not Trust These Movers

There is a reason this company is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. Their salespeople will make any false promise they can make to get your deposit. This includes low-ball estimates and bold face lies about being affiliated with only "The Best" movers. It's clear they sold our move with negligence to the highest bidder. Movers arrived on pick up and delivery with run-down, unmarked trucks. They were rude, confrontational and abused our belongings.

The movers they hire will not accept credit card—only cash. Which is a good sign that this whole operation is an elaborate scam.

Upon delivery, the driver arrived with no warning or notice and demanded cash to unload the truck on a Saturday afternoon. A single person arrived to unload the truck which meant my wife and I had to help carry heavy furniture items into our new house. We payed nearly $6,000 for a long distance move that was promised as "full service." The salesperson "Robert," promised customer service but never answered the phone. Customer service agents "Jodi" and Manager, "Ashley," refused to offer any help or consolation.

Our sofa, bookshelf, and dresser were badly damaged. They delivered two items that were part of someone else's move.

My advice is to avoid this company and any others do not provide proof that they are their own independent van line with background-checked employees.

Long-distance move from Sacramento, CA to New Orleans, LA

Worst company ever!

Moved from California to New Orleans. After weeks of trying to get an ETA from them, our stuff finally came today. The driver refuses to unload, we have to walk half a block to get all of our things, and it took them almost a month to arrive. Most if not all are damaged! $1000 bike with a bent frame! And that’s not the only thing that is damaged. This company is the worst!!!! I wish I could post photos.

Long-distance move from Florida to Georgia

Nightmare

I tried to explain my disappointment as simple as possible. When I wanted a quote they sent me a list, I filled it out, then we scheduled a virtual meeting and we showed every single thing. And we said we need dissemble and assemble (white glow job) and we asked how many days will it take to move from FL to GA. They said we will do all dissemble and assemble, and it is going take 3-5 business days. They pushed us to say yes, today is 4th of July and discount is just for today and unfortunately we believed them and we said ok, we sent money. Quote was $5838. After that their superviser called us and he said we won’t be assemble or dissemble tv and baby crip. The supervisor said, sales rep is new, does not know the company etc. In the mean time he did not take the responsibility. This one first. Moving day they said to us you said king bed, you didn’t say frame and head board. Your bookcase has class door, you didn’t say car seat etc. And the guy said to us you are not the first and you won’t be last. Total moving cost will be around $8000. Anyway they picked our stuff up. They sent inexperienced persons. After that time we call many times when is the date, first day said 5-7 business day, then 7-21 business day. After 10 business day we had a phone call we were so disappointed. They said we will tell you next week. Try to speak supervisor, they said no supervisor available. After how many days later I do not remember they called us and said we are loading your stuff. We were happy at last. They called us Friday afternoon and said we will be there around 8 pm. We said ok.

They loaded our stuff to a rental truck with 2 handyman. They didn’t know how to assemble. They assemble wrongly. They damaged our homes wall. Around 11 pm they tried to assemble with no knowledge at all and with noise. Our kids were so scared. And our bed frame was broken, our sectional leg was missing, our fragile items were broken, kids dresser was all damaged and all boxes were damaged. Inside of some boxes there was cockroaches.

They pretended to be movers, but they're moving brokers who subcontract to the worst of the worst. We paid for a high-end move with full packing service and got one men from "MM Moving LLC" of Davie, FL.

What a nightmare!

Long-distance move from Las Vegas, NV to Knoxville, TN

Horrific!! Misleading. AVOID!!!

Las Vegas to Knoxville October 2021. Shady Dave and Lying Chris are the supposed owners. Chris did follow up and beat a quote by a few bucks and PROMISED, assured me…he would be my contact “all through the move”. That lie could not have been more bold and intentional. First, movers show up and in a blink $1,500 is added on top of $6,900 “quote”, for packing materials and the cubic fit CHRIS came up with us wrong. You can do nothing like n this situation - it is your move day!! Walls damaged, items not packed ie, $400 1 yr old treadmill, candy wrappers everywhere from the jerk movers WE had to pick up. I gave the lead jerk a leaf blower and charger in our garage i was going to leave to our buyers. Next, we dont get a SINGLE CALL for over a week from ANYONE including LYING CHRIS. Shady Dave finally though slowly gets our stuff delivered and tells me, “ i had to beg to get it to you”. WTF??? So this is when it gets worse. This sub-human “lead”move dude and his skinny crew of two others have spent MUCH time destroying our belongings. So wish I could upload pics here. Furniture, chairs, plate ware, coffe maker, $800 electric fireplace, 2 small safes!! Destroyed. They were animals . Not filing a claim, just wish everyone would avoid. Trust me and others.

Long-distance move from Seattle, WA to San Antonio, TX

Disaster!

We hired Compass Vanline Movers from Seattle WA to San Antonio Texas and provided an accurate description of household inventory, On a moving day company refused to pick up idems from storage because 2 idems have not been packed and they requested from us to pay $700 more or they will not proceed with moving process.

We had 2 big 6f tall spicers with handles which they don't need to be wrapped with blankets. On delivery day we discover that the company stuck the items so high up in the truck every box and every plastic container was crushed. All glass items crash in small pieces.

My China, paintings and expensive crystals all destroyed. Some of the furniture item destroyed. This is one of them the worst experience I ever had with Movers. For the amount of money we pay this is a disaster....

Long-distance move from Marlton, NJ to Arlington, VA

Don't do it!

We've moved 21 times in 30 years for work, and have used professional movers for 19 of those moves. Hands down, WORST EXPERIENCE to date.

The sales call went well (big surprise) where they sold me on their service and their approach of charging by the cubic foot rather than by the pound. A few days before the move there was the quality control phone call where their agent told me that everything sales had told me was basically wrong - but I shouldn't blame it on sales since they had never actually loaded a truck (and the quality control agent had.) He then told me that my price (cubic volume) would likely be about 20% more than I was previously quoted. I should have back away immediately, so shame on me for not listening to my gut instinct.

On the day of the move the movers badly scratched the front door when moving one of the sofas out of the house. The front door is a "statement" door so the scratches stand out badly. The closing on the house is in two weeks and our realtor has told us that on final walk through the door will present an issue to the buyer on closing. When I called to complain, the quality control agent did not tell me Compass would make it right. Here's what the quality control agent at Compass told me:

1. It's not their fault - the movers are independent contractors

2. My quote "clearly" told me that they were independent contractors and I have no recourse against Compass.

3. I could take a $100 credit or file an insurance claim - my choice, end of their problem (the house is in New Jersey where, if you're familiar with the area, $100 wouldn't even cover the first hour of labor to have the door refinished and painted).

When I told him I found it unacceptable, that I expected Compass to make it right before the closing and final walk through he got quite patronizing and compared this to a car accident asking me if I would expect the person who ran into my car to make it right or if I would expect to file an insurance claim and eventually be reimbursed. UNBELIEVABLE!!

I've spent the last hour on the web researching Compass and have come across hundreds of reviews stating how horrible customer service is at Compass. Don't know why I didn't see them before, but if you're reading this and are thinking of using Compass please know those reviews are 100% on the money. Their customer service will be among the worst experiences you will ever have with a company.

Long-distance move from Winter Garden, FL to Gig Harbor, WA

YOU ARE BETTER OFF TAKING A SLEDGEHAMMER TO YOUR OWN BELONGINGS RATHER

YOU ARE BETTER OFF TAKING A SLEDGEHAMMER TO YOUR OWN BELONGINGS RATHER THAN USE THIS COMPANY. We hired Compass Van Lines for our move from FL to WA after seeing good reviews on Move Buddah in Aug 2021 (back when the reviews were still good). Our move was scheduled on 10/7/21, and the movers who worked with us in FL were phenomenal. They arrived on time, thoroughly wrapped all of our furniture items before loading everything on the truck, and they performed their work quickly and seamlessly. That is unfortunately where the positive experience ended.

On arrival of our belongings in WA, MULTIPLE, large-item and expensive belongings were damaged and / or destroyed. My less than 1 year old Nordictrack treadmill that I paid extra for special handling was DECIMATED to the point of being unusable; internal electrical components exposed on the top, the underside of the treadmill damaged and unable to be placed level on the ground. We told them not to even bother unloading it off the truck since we would have to pay more money to have it sent to the dump. Several large pieces of furniture including two real wood bed frames, real wood dresser, lamps, inversion table were all significantly damaged. One of six tall kitchen stools is missing. I understand that damages occur during such a long-haul move, but the level of damage we experienced was evidence of overall negligence and rough handling of our belongings.

Furthermore, the moving company who delivered our items sent three workers, only one of whom was physically capable of doing the job. My husband acted as the fourth person on their crew and assisted with lifting all furniture items. Part of the moving agreement included full assembly and arranging of all items on delivery. Things were left haphazard in our home, nothing assembled. They also put several holes in the drywall in our new home. We had to hire an outside company based in WA to come to our home and assist w/ arranging and assembling furniture.

Our insurance claim has been formally submitted, and I hope this company will work hard to rectify the situation and reimburse us for the multiple damages. Until then, I would advise against anyone using this company.

Overpriced and hidden costs

Moving nightmare! We were under-estimated by 324x$9.25 per cubic feet=$2997, doubling our original order!

They are just middle men hiring another company who charged an extra $150 for “bulky items “ which I clearly described to the person who quoted me, who did not bother to mention the extra cost.

Packing was extra $150-$200 for bulky items mentioned above.

They said they are A rated with BBB, their name was no where to be found! Beware of these scammers!!!!

Local move within Texas

Late, damaged items, attempted extortion.

This company was contracted by Sky Moving & Storage to move our items from Lewisville, TX to Schertz, TX on Monday, June 28, 2010. This was expedited only after the supposed mover did not call the day before and they didn't show up, and it was already near the end of the day. I later received a call from Steve from Compass Van Lines after 5pm that he'd be my driver, and would get to me when he finished with his current job. Except he didn't know when the current job would end. He and his crew didn't show up till 9pm. This meant that our items would not be delivered until the following afternoon.

When Steve went through the paperwork with me, I was charged $2.80/cu. ft. for quoted volume, and $3.80/cu. ft. for volume that was over. Since I was allegedly 200 cu. ft. over, that was an extra $786.60. 20 extra boxes of 5 cu. ft. each totaling over 200 cu. ft.?!! Compass charged me by the volume, contrary to Sky's quote that is by the weight – $0.81/lb within quotation and $0.90/lb for weight that was over! Not only that, Steve tried to fleece me by claiming his 'boss' wouldn't accept money order (for 50% of remaining quoted balance to be paid during pick up) that was made out to Sky Moving. In the first place, I didn't know Sky contracted the job to Compass until a few hours before Compass showed out, and that was late in the night on pick-up date. Even then, Steve wouldn't confirm the approximate time he would show up. Up to that point, I was under the impression that Sky was doing the moving. That was why the money order was made out to them. Yet Sky did not even have the courtesy to contact me 'prior to pick-up date' to confirm arrival as promised. Steve didn't care. The $528.00 money order was no good. I would have to re-withdraw the rejected amount plus the remaining balance. Total projected cost = $2804.00. I could cover $2276.00 (if Steve would accept the money order), but not $2804.00. Where would I get that kind of money? (The following day, prior to delivery, Steve said that he accepted the money order, so I only needed to provide the remaining balance.)

Compass delivered on Tuesday mid-afternoon, with some damaged furniture. The whole experience was a nightmare. Stressful, poor to no communication from Compass Van Lines, their attempted extortion, prospective burned finances, and plenty of wasted time. I learnt now what to look for in a mover company the next time I relocate. Certainly not Compass Van Lines. Any company that doesn't charge by volume isn't to be trusted. Furthermore, Sky did not offer an GNTE (Guarantee Not To Exceed) proposal, which allowed Compass Van Lines to charge me whatever obscene amount they wanted.

Long-distance move from Texas to North Carolina

Stolen items.

I would definitely stay away from this company. We believe that one of their employees stole from us while they were in our home. My smart phone was with me the morning of our move. It was placed in our foyer along with some other belongings that the movers were instructed to leave alone as they would be traveling with me in my car. After the movers left and I began to gather my things and pack my car, I couldn't find my phone. My husband and I assumed that perhaps we had accidentally packed it. We tried calling the phone to see if we could hear it but didn't hear anything. The next morning, after we still could not find it anywhere, we called our service carrier and were told that the phone had been used to send text messages to unfamiliar Austin numbers and some of the data had been used as well. No one had access to my things that day other than the movers so I can't come to any other conclusion than that one of them stole from us. When my husband contacted the owner, Avi, to discuss this, Avi was belligerent with him and refused to believe us. I can understand wanting to trust your employees but he wasn't even willing to investigate the situation. Now three weeks later, we have also discovered that our camera is missing, another small electronic that was laying in the foyer on the day of our move. I would never recommend this company. While they may be cheaper, you might end up losing some of your things.

Excellent!

My experience with Compass Van Lines was completely positive! From the minute the staff responded to my initial inquiry, to the moment the movers left after completing the transfer of my furniture and packing cases; everyone with whom I dealt was professional, competent, capable, careful, pleasant and precise. The amount that was estimated was exactly what I was charged in the end. Everything was explained to me in detail at every step. All that was promised was fulfilled in the specific manner it had been assured. Most importantly, these guys worked HARD! They were busy every moment, moved fast, and were meticulously conscientious. I can heartily recommend Compass Van Lines without reservation.

Compass Van Lines.

My account rep was knowledgeable and assisted me in all areas of the move so there would not be any surprises. Not having any surprises regarding the quote was important to me and my budget. The movers who loaded me up in Texas and the ones who unloaded my things in Illinois were extremely professional and helpful. My items had not sustained any damage and were in good condition. They had been wrapped well. I would highly recommend Compass Van Lines. The estimate they gave to me was exactly what I paid. I also had to deal several times with another representative in the company when my rep was out of the office. She was equally as professional and provided me with the answers I needed. You read some horror stories regarding moving companies, but Compass Van Lines delivered on all fronts and I appreciated the excellent service in my transition.

Would recommend them in a heartbeat!

As a real estate broker, I have the opportunity to work with a lot of moving companies. I can say without a doubt that the two moves these guys helped with on short notice right before Christmas were completely smooth. They were careful with the furniture and now that every box is unpacked I can confirm that nothing was broken. One move even came in at less than the price we were quoted! I would recommend them again without hesitation.

Great Experience!

These guys moved me recently from Florida to my new home in Round Rock.  They were very friendly and helpful and did a great job.  I had to move out at the end of October and my new home wasn't available until the 15th of November.  Compass stored my items for me for FREE and when everything arrived there was nothing broken.  They even took extra precautions to wrap my furniture and protect the doorways when they moved everything.  These guys were great and I would recommend them.

Buyer beware.

We are very unhappy with compass.  After detailing with company salesman, we were quoted ~$6800, however after the truck arrived I was told that was not correct and I would need more space but that would be determined later in the day. By the time we arrived at that point it too late to do anything else. Additional fee~$2500. Then added in packing material.  We had scheduled the full service move but only one man and driver arrived over 5 hours late. After about 4 hours the driver then sought a couple extra hands.  I had to have the house empty and clean that day to be able to close early the next morning. They were supposed to be there 2 days before. I had been in contact with company regarding packing and space allotted but they insisted the quote was accurate. After paying top dollar for storage, we were not notified till the day before delivery that we had be available at 0800 the next day.  They didn't arrive till after 1100. It took till late in the evening to finish and they were pressing to get moving as they had to be in Los Angles the next morning.  Even though we paid for full service, we had to help to get it done. It distracted us enough that we didn't compare the load list to actual numbers.  It wasn't till several months later after getting the boxes emptied we discovered so much missing such as sub woofer, HD computer monitor, X box, WII controllers, games movies, entire kitchen boxes, sons letter jacket.. Etc etc etc.  I sent an e mail to company but no reply.  Oh, I also discovered a tear in a couch, too late. They sound good but don't very lacking!

Great moving experience!

This is a great company! My furniture needed to be rerouted to another location and they were very professional and prompt in putting in this request. I got a call about when my furniture was picked up and in transit and the driver kept me informed the entire time. They arrived 5 minutes early and took care to ensure all items on the inventory list were there and undamaged. They took care of my things as if they were their own. At one point they thought an end table was missing and took the time to find it. I would recommend this company to anyone who is moving whether it is across town or across the country.

I booked the service and scheduled February 26 to be the pick-up date on January 28th, after the sales representative stressed that I have to book early to “secure” a spot due to high demand.

I did and now we are at the week of moving. I’ve been calling them every day this week in an effort to confirm the time of the pick-up. All I got was “your schedule is looking good”, “we will call you later to confirm”, “don’t worry”. And today, which is a day before the pick-up, I have to call to learn that they won’t come tomorrow and there’s still no confirmation in terms of when the pick-up will be done. (There’s no proactive communication at all from them)

Now I’m at their mercy and hope that someone will actually show up to do the job I pay them to do, at the time I scheduled.

Quality Move

I scheduled my move with Compass which I was very skeptical about. I got all these calls from all these companies telling me all types of stuff. But after doing my research and noticing Compass had an A+ with the BBB I felt comfortable. I spoke to Robert , David , and Amanda. I scheduled back in March and moved this past weekend . Super professional and they didn’t increase my price which is what every company told me their competitors would do. All in all I’d recommend them to friends and family. Would definitely use them again!
