College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving

Extremely disappointing! I should not have used their services, and definitely would not recommend them to anyone. They performed a job at my home in Vernon Hills, IL about three weeks ago. Their customer service was horrible. During the negotiation for the price, they agreed on a very small referral credit of 20 dollars. The staff member from their company "forgot" to apply that when he charged me the full amount on the day of the job. He said the manager would call me and let me know when the credit was applied. Later that day, the manager did call and said the credit was posted on my credit card, and if I did not receive it in 72 hours, then I should give him a call back. Well, a week passed, and no credit was posted. I called the office, and a staff member said there was no note on my account about that credit at all, but she would pass this request to the manager. The manager called me back, and said the credit would be posted, and let me call him back if I did not receive it in 72 hours. A week passed, nothing happened. I called again this Wednesday, and a representative said she would pass my request to the manager because she did not see any note about the credit. This morning, I called them again and requested the manager to call me back. The manager finally called me back and explained the 20-dollar credit needed the Board to approve, and it took the Board three weeks to approve this credit because they would need to evaluate the effect of this credit on their corporate revenue! The manager said the blame should be put on the Board, and he also said that if my refund request was about a larger sum, they could have processed my request more efficiently. Over the past three weeks, I spent at least two hours to fight for a fair treatment...The manager simply refused to compensate me for my lost time. What a nightmare!

College “Hunks”? More like grade school punks!

No integrity or accountability, no clear price structure, no written contract, and aggressive, rude and unprofessional employees…

Saturday May 27th 2023; I drove three hours each way to clean out my Deceased Brother’s apartment in Knoxville. College Hunks Moving and Junk Removal Service arrived six hours late for an appointment that I’d booked a week ago. Mike Mo was the lead man; he got my first name wrong and mispronounced my last name. When I corrected him, he grunted and mumbled. Lit cigarette in his mouth, no handshake, no friendly greeting, NEVER any eye contact. Dressed like he’d just gotten out of bed. NOTHING like what the website promised.

He said it would be an extra base charge for the first hour “because it was the weekend”.

It would cost me X amount if it was half a truck worth of stuff, twice as much if it was a full truck worth. (Their website says they have 13 different pricing structures for junk removal, but they only reveal three of them.)

The apartment is a two bed one bath, 800 square feet on the ground floor, easy parking space access. Two beds, one loveseat, minimal furniture, two TV’s and some boxes of trash. I estimated it would only be half a truckload, OR LESS.

Mike Mo (and Jonathan, who was great) proceeded to bring things out AND THROW THEM HAPHAZARDLY INTO THE TRUCK from the ground.

It took them A HALF AN HOUR to empty the apartment, and when Mike Mo said he’d have to charge me for a FULL TRUCK LOAD (AT FOUR TIMES THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE),

I explained that if they’d taken the full hour and packed it carefully from floor to ceiling and front to back (as if they were moving us,) it would have been a half a truck load OR LESS. And that if there had been three times as much stuff, and they had CARRIED IT INTO THE TRUCK AND PACKED IT WELL, then it would have been a FULL TRUCKLOAD.

Mike Mo proceeded to CURSE AT ME, saying “this is bullshit” and “I’ll put all your shit right back here on the street”! There were racial slurs from him that I couldn’t understand, I was AFRAID for myself at that point. UNBELIEVABLE!

I called the local office, explained what was taking place, and that under the circumstances I didn’t want to pay the full amount he was demanding. FOUR TIMES THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE!

The local office JUSTIFIED HIS RUDE AND INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR by saying “it had been a long day”!!

She (at the local office) called Mike Mo and asked him to leave the premises, then told me that she would “run this up the chain” (of command), call her supervisor and get an adjusted final price, call me back and I could pay for it over the phone with a credit card.

I began the long drive back home; two hours went by, and I hadn’t heard from her. (Never heard from any of them again.)

Then the property manager for my Deceased Brother’s complex texted me with photos residents had taken of different College Hunks UNLOADING ALL THE CONTENTS OF THE APARTMENT ON THE PARKING SPACE RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING!! UNBELIEVABLE.

NEVER in my life have I been treated like this by a service provider or had this kind of experience. I wanted to have a drink (and I’ve been sober for 33 years!)

Not to mention the violation of the residents of the apartment complex. WHAT A NIGHTMARE… How does this company stay in business if these are their practices? Wow…..

Had College Hunks move us , A young man came to our house to give us a quote and I asked about wrapping the furniture and he said they would wrap it all , should have asked how well! WE HAD DAMAGE FURNITURE I called there office and the lady said she would notify someone in charge , never heard back , we had a problem with the wash machine and had a repairman come and check it out and found out the bolts never got put in the drum before it got moved, the shock had came apart and he said that's the only way it would have , I was told by the young man they would put them in I showed them to him so they would be put in ! after the repair I called the young man and told him about the damage furniture and wash machine and told him I called the office and got no call back he said there was really nothing he could do! I WILL NEVER USE them again, they got there money and didn't care about anything else!!!!! Kansas City Area

I would like to start by saying that the three customer service representatives that I spoke to on the phone were GREAT. The one star is for the CSR. I scheduled an estimate on 10/20 for 10/23. Austin called and told me on the 23rd that they had an emergency and couldn’t make it for the time that I had picked and asked if I could do it earlier. He also mentioned during the call that he was starting his own moving company. I couldn’t because I had already had other appointments that day. So, we decided to send a video of my storage and the other location where my belongings are located and he would get back to me no later than Wednesday with an estimate. I sent the video that Monday. No response on Tuesday. No response on Wednesday. I sent a text message to Austin on Wednesday and Thursday, 10/26 morning before I called in. When I called in, the customer service rep was great and told me that they would reach out to Austin to have him call me back. He called back later Thursday afternoon; again, he mentioned that he was starting his business. He initially stated that he couldn’t open the link that I sent (it expired after two days, which would have been on Wednesday). I sent the link again. He told me that it would be over $400 to drive to my initial stop and leave from my new place. This doesn’t include the movers and the time that it would take for them to move my belongings. I was taken aback by that price but still asked for a full estimate of my move. He said that he would go over the video and get back to me. I have still yet to get a full estimate of my move. You just lost a customer and will tell this story to anyone who is thinking about using them. DON’T!

The franchisee serving the Prosper Frisco, McKinney market, and Colin County area for College Hunks Hauling Junk, exemplifies the epitome of unreliability, deceit, and unprofessionalism. Despite agreeing to a crucial office and warehouse cleanout donation pickup within a two-hour window from 10 AM to noon, they shamelessly failed to uphold their commitment. Instead, they nonchalantly texted at 12:10, lazily pushing the arrival time to between one and 1:30. To make matters worse, around four o'clock, they concocted a feeble excuse, citing an excessively long line at the dump as the reason for their tardiness. However, upon independent verification, it was clear that this was nothing but a blatant lie. Their flagrant disregard for punctuality, coupled with their shameless fabrications, underscores their utter lack of integrity and professionalism. Jonathan, the franchisee, reached new lows of unprofessionalism, culminating in a callous "we're good" before abruptly hanging up after canceling the appointment. No one should trust them, and buyers should beware of their deceptive practices, as College Hunks Hauling Junk should be deeply ashamed to have such deceitful representation tarnishing their brand.
