Not as Expected

We called College Hunks for a simple job to remove trash from garage and basement and described the job thoroughly. They were quick - too quick. They updated their phone estimate AS they were loading the truck. It was almost 3 times over. Sweeping of the garage was originally requested and only a bare minimum done. No floor protection was provided and on a snowy day in Michigan they left heavy dark marks on the floors and stairs. No final walk through was conducted. I contacted the local office in Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, MI and they made a flat, basic apology (over and over) and went on to say they would come back to sweep - at an additional charge. No offer was extended to make it right as customer satisfaction apparently is not their concern. Then she went on to say that we should keep them in mind if we needed anything else. There is no way that will happen.

We had an amazing experience with College Hunks in Lincoln, Nebraska. Noah, Lou and James were so friendly, positive (during a time that can be stressful), listened to fun music, cracked jokes, and always asked clarifying questions about items during the move. We couldn't have asked for a better group to move us to our forever home! Highly recommend!

Cost on website incorrect

I had 17 - 30 gallon bags of clothes and shoes to donate. College Hunks website said $104.00 for an 1/8 of a truck load. The gentlemen who came tried to charge me $290.00. I paid them $150 and, of course, gave them a tip, as I always do. I sent an email to the website about this and received no response. They won’t hear from me again nor receive referrals from me to anyone else.

Absolutely the worst

One of the worst experiences I have ever had with a vendor and we use many vendors. They outright lie and bait and switch on costs.

They showed up with the paperwork improperly filled out as the hourly rate I was being charged was missing ($225/hr for 3 men). I wouldnt sign it with the rate missing, and they wouldnt start work until I did, so they sat here, staring at the clouds and chatting as they waited for the return call which came 20 min later, time that was added to my bill! When I complained to the office manager about billing me for the time it took them to correct their paperwork, he refused to deduct the time and said "you don't need to have my hourly rate on the contract before signing it"!

Prior to the move, I was told I didnt need to spend $525 for Extra ins to insure a $5,000 vending machine as their standard insurance company would cover it for damage. But when they showed up, they wanted me to sign a page in the contract that said I would buy the extra ins for $525, and if I didnt, I was accepting coverage of only $.50 a pound in case of damage (only $500). When confronted him about our earlier conversation, he declared "$.50 per pound is "State Law!" I corrected him to say, "No, the $.50 /lb is a state law MINIMUM coverage they are mandated to provide, you said your company ins would cover me for damage". When I caught him in his lie, he said, "OK, you're right, don't bother with it"

Then after the move, they added an extra $225 charge for the "use of the truck" when it was nowhere in the contract! The contract said $225/hr for movers AND truck. When I complained they said, "you didnt think you were getting a truck for free did you?!"

Finally, they neglected to deduct my deposit off the amount they billed be for at the end! When I mentioned this to them, they moaned as though I was being a "pain".

I should also add, they repeatedly pestered me me the entire time about buying them something at Starbucks. Every 15 minutes.. "where is our Starbucks? Arent you getting us Starbucks?" Extremely rude.

An unprofessional experience all the way around. Avoid at all costs.

Employees were very polite - kind - accomodating

Had furniture removed by two Hunk employees. Both were very polite and kind. After they left I realized I had left invaluable items in the drawer of a desk. Contacted the employees they said not to worry items would be returned to me the same day. Supervisor Roque Acevedo personally after he finished his shift made a stop at my home with the items. I cannot thank the Hunk Team enough. They went way beyond Customer Service and are exceptional employees.

Disappointed

At first I was happy with the movers.then when they left I noticed a dark spot on my ceiling I looked up and I was damaged due to them carrying one of my dresser furniture down the stairs, I did hear a bang but didn't think anything of it because I thought they would have said something .I called to complain. Someone texted me saying he talked to the hunks and they denied it..why would I make it up after donating so much nice furniture to them and paying 526 dollars for them picking up my furniture.plus a,nice tip.it's not about the money it's the disrespect and lack of acknowledgment..I'm so dissatisfied with the experience. Thank you.

Very friendly and efficient

We used College Hunks for our move in Enid OK. We didn’t know we were getting CH as we ordered a pod through another company and sent them to pack it and haul it away. ButI would recommend them to anyone looking for movers. Marty and Nathan were very professional. We hired them for 3 hours (included in price) and they were done in about 2 1/2 but they weren’t rushed. They were respectful of our home and our belongings. I was very pleased with College Hunks Moving company.

Never use College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving

This was a 2 part move. The 1st part was my storage locker to my new rental house. The 2nd part was my current house to the rental house.

The 1st move appeared to go smoothly. There were a few concerns about it.

The 2nd day of moving made the 1st day seem like it went perfect.

There's so much that went wrong, I don't really know where to begin.

1) I was charged for the entire walk thru.

- John was new at being the lead & didn't allow any credit for that time.

During the walk-through I specifically told John that he needed to make sure they put things back where they found them. I pointed out a couple of specific things.

- None of that was done.

My wife had to rescue a lamp that was left turned on & on its side on top of the dresser. The hot light bulb dangerously close to flammable materials.

- there was a set of 3 tables I stated to be put back after they finished moving furniture out of the shed. They didn't.

2) After they moved the bed out of the house & into the truck they left behind all the electric cables they disconnected from it.

- My wife found them left behind. She notified me of it. I took them & found them & gave them the cables to put with the bed. (which they couldn't find when unloading. That took some time until they were found.)

- When the bed was set up they didn't put it up against the wall. Now my pillows keep falling off the end of the bed. (It's a NIGHTLY reminder of just how horrible the move was.)

3) The breakfront was locked & I don't know how. But they couldn't unlock it upon arrival at the rental house.

- They also left the shelves for it behind. I had to go find John a 2nd time (1st was to give him the power cords they didn't pack up

4) I constantly found Jordan standing around doing nothing. Just wandering about. Like he was high or something. He should never have been there. Every time I found him in that position I requested he take boxes or something nearby up to the truck.

- I had someone take a freshly laundered basket of my laundry up to the truck. It also held the remote control for my adjustable bed.

Towards the end of their 10 hours of moving 4 or 5 hours worth of stuff, my wife called to tell me she had found my laundry basket with the remote control in her bedroom.

Why was anyone putting anything in my wife's bedroom?

5) I don't know what happened, I was not next to the movers for most of the time they were there - I trusted them to do the job, when they pulled the TV out of the entertainment center. But John found me & told me they had broken it, somehow. My guess is they dropped it.

6) Moving the entertainment center up the stairs was another big time waster. John & Jordan struggled with it for half an hour or longer. But they couldn't get it to fit up stairs. It was until Dylan came & I suggested he go downstairs & give it a try with them. John resisted, but at my insistence the 3 of them went back downstairs. They figured out a way to get it up stairs.

7) At the rental house I specifically asked for ALL the boxes, that I did not otherwise specify, go on the shelves in the closet on the finished side of the basement.

- Much of that shelf space was unused. They put the boxes where I said to ABSOLUTELY NOT place them. I had said I wanted the area behind the bar, where the water bed had been placed, to be left open.

8) They started unloading boxes from the truck parked at the FRONT of the house, walking the entire distance twice to take them into the basement. (John did move it, under protest, when I asked. It was returned to the front to unload furniture.)

9) They brought a folding chair downstairs into the basement placed it on some boxes. Then they came downstairs with more boxes & placed them on top of the chair on top of the boxes, cockeyed. (Aren't these College Hunks more educated than this.)

10) Someone, or maybe all them, thought it was a good idea to place boxes I asked be put in the basement in 2 other places:

A) The enclosed back porch.

I had thought that maybe they were staging them there, that was fine, to take downstairs. There was a also piece of furniture I told them I needed them to take downstairs

B) The kitchen has a wall of boxes 6 feet tall & 3 to 4 feet wide, 2 layers deep. This completely blocks anyone from entering or exiting the kitchen from the basement or the 3rd bedroom adjacent to the kitchen. They also effectively block me from using the stove & dishwasher as they are so close to both of them.

Before the move started they said I was the boss & that they would do what I told them to do. Clearly that was not the case

11) After all they did, when they came upstairs for the last time, NOT ONE OF THEM thought to turn off the lights in the basement

There is more but this more than reflects how unhappy I am

Junk removal

I appreciate the hard work in removing items from my mother’s home in preparation for a move. I was informed that they would recycle some furniture and donate. Unfortunately all items were removed and sent to the local dump. There were several pieces of furniture that were able to be donated but found that they loaded all items and took to dump. I feel mislead in that they would recycle and donate some of those items.

During the removal of items, there was damage to a wall. I was told that they would repair the wall. Upon several phone calls and back and forth, they were indicating that they would schedule a time to fix the damage. Over 10 days have passed and have not received at time or date for them to come and fix the damage. All the individuals were very nice and consolatory but have not done what they have promised. My mother’s home is getting ready for sale but have not heard back from College Hunks Junk Removal after many phone calls as to when they will fix the damage to the wall.

I would not recommend them to remove any items and furthermore would not recommend because of their promises to fix damage but do not follow through.

Dishonest & Unresponsive

This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a company. I have worked in the service industry for over a decade and I have never personally interacted with a company with WORSE business practices than this College Hunks franchise.

I utilized the DC franchise of College Hunks for my local move. Not only did they destroy over $2k of my furniture & belongings (unrepairable & needed completely replaced) they also damaged every other piece of furniture we own and other belongings, showed up over 2 hours late (& tried to charge me for that time), took over 2x the estimated length to move & charged me for it (they estimated 4-6 hours and took over 10 hours to move a one bedroom apartment), deliberately dragged on the time by taking personal phone calls & breaks throughout (on my dime, not the company's), deliberately moved slowly throughout the move process, and the movers complained to me about how the company sent them without "sufficient supplies" including tape, furniture covering, dollies, etc.

The company refused to effectively communicate with me during the move. I received one return phone call (AFTER contacting corporate, the franchise would not answer or return any phone calls) during the move and was dismissed & told they would "handle it" when I asked for support from management with the poor quality of the movers. Absolutely nothing changed after this conversation. They also accused me of lying about the movers 2 hour late arrival time until I told them I had text & phone call evidence.

I was told at the end of the move (late in the evening because the movers took over 2x longer than estimated by the company), while in a loading dock alone with two men (I am a small female) that I had to sign the receipts for the move or else they would not leave the property. After expressing concerns about the charges, they were persistent that they could not leave my home until I signed the documents.

I have received two email responses (again only AFTER contacting & filing a complaint with corporate because the franchise would not return any phone call or email communication). They were dismissive of any complaints beyond the damaged furniture (which they only reimbursed $.60 on the $1 per state law despite destroying my furniture so that it was unrepairable & unusable).

They did not acknowledge or address any of my complaints about the poor quality of service and the deliberate effort of the movers to extend the hours I was being charge for by taking personal phone calls & taking frequent breaks (on my dime), and displaying minimal effort (I ended up stepping in & moving things myself because they were moving so slowly). The movers also did not disassemble or wrap most of the furniture for the move (despite this explicitly being a guaranteed service provided during the move & my request for them to do so - hence the broken & damaged furniture).

I have spent over two months trying to communicate with this franchise to find a resolution before posting this review but they have refused to communicate with me since.

I would do everything possible to avoid using this moving service. The Better Business Bureau has received many complaints about this franchise but they are not BBB accredited so there is nothing that BBB can do to assist.

If you look at all of the negative reviews on this franchise they are exactly the same - makes me very skeptical about the positive reviews that made me choose this company for our move. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS THEY DELIBERATLY SCAM PEOPLE.
