Worst movers ever

The moving industry needs massive regulation and oversight. Given that most are a bunch of shady operators, Burly Boyz takes the award for most inept and most untrustworthy. These charlatans should be run out of business.

Very poor experience

We moved July 2023 and booked with Burly Boys. After reviewing our inventory list 3 times with them, they showed up on moving day with a very small truck. (We found out later when one of the staff let it slip that their large truck was broken down.) Theu offered to take our items in 2 loads but then charge us DOUBLE. We declined and were then left scrambling to move half of our items ourselves and had to rent a storage unit to hold them until move in day. The final straw was when 3 pieces of furniture showed up damaged, they refused to honour the extra warranty that they talked us into purchasing. Book with Eager Beaver instead, we hear many positive things.

Move from Victoria

Moved from Victoria to Vancouver.

Movers: Arsh and Armaan were communicative, professional and personable. The move was seamless and they were very professional. Nothing was missing or broken and they went above and beyond.

Company: Move was fairly (if a tad high) priced, they accommodated a specific request and they took me through the process very clearly. Their truck looked a little run down.

I would use this moving company again and certainly would want Arsh and Armaan to be my movers. They were amazing!

I will never use Burly Boyz again

Moving from Vancouver to Winnipeg while dealing with the stress of a family tragedy. These movers did not help but rather increased my stress a thousand-fold! They dragged my white queen size boxspring along the ground halfway across the country. I told them to wrap it but they didn't listen. It arrived filthy and ripped. The destroyed the finish of a credenza. They lost one of my boxes. They broke the wheels off a rolling Filing cabinet. And cracked chunks of concrete off my front stairs as the One Delivery guy struggled to pull heavy furniture up the stairs - by himself - in the middle of the night. Burly never took responsibility for anything saying it was my fault for not having enough insurance. You've been warned against using these hacks.

Long-distance move from Kelowna, BC to Calgary, AB

Moved my moving date 3 times, then showed up hours late.

BB moved my date from Kelowna to Calgary 3 times. Then on the final date instead of showing up at 10 to 12 they showed up late afternoon. Driver says he overslept. Driver did very little of the moving. Left most of the moving to a nice guy called Wessal. I asked the driver when they would deliver. He assured me before 4 pm next day. Again next day no one showed up. Zero communication. No call, no e mail.Showed up a day late but did get a call on day of the final delivery. Very nice movers Hassan and Harry. The only positive thing was nothing was broken.

The communication from this company sucks. Try arranging a move out of or into a condo.A nightmare . Final payment was more than the quote bit it was weight based.

Moving and storage.

I hired this company to move me from Edmonton and store items for about 10 days then move my items to Calgary. Their insurance doesn’t cover any items that include particle board, lost items, or items that I packed myself. So that basically forces you to pay for them to pack everything for you in order to have anything covered by their insurance. When moving from the storage in Edmonton, their truck broke down. They rented a private truck and separated my items into 2 loads as they didn’t have enough room in the one truck as they had someone else’s items in there as well. I didn’t find this out until I asked where the rest of my items were after they finished moving the items from the first truck. The second truck came about 5 hours after the first truck arrived. After unpacking the boxes I found a good portion of my crystal stemware was broken. Each individual glass was packed with packing paper and the box was identified as ‘crystal, fragile’. The crystal cabinet was damaged, a wheel from a bed frame was missing, the frame for a dresser was totally damaged and bent, shelves and the assembly parts to an office desk were missing. The movers disassembled the desk themselves when they moved it from Edmonton. The frame on a picture and the glass was broken that was packed in a specific box designed for moving pictures and had packing paper in it as well. It was quite obvious that the movers of this company did not take any care or responsibility for the items they were moving. Due to the damage to the boxes and other items, it is obvious they they stacked things on top of boxes marked fragile and had complete disregard for my belongings. The moving company has not taken responsibility for the desk shelves or assembly parts that they lost in transport. Do not use this company to move your belongings. You will regret it as I do.

Save yourself a lot of headache & don't hire them.

I try to give businesses a lot of chances before I leave a negative review but Burly Boyz has, kind of, left me no choice.

I hired them for a move on August 14th and was told it would take 18 days to receive my things. Originally, they were supposed to arrive to my home in downtown Edmonton at 8:00 am but when I told them when I would need to out of there, they asked to push it up to 7:30 am which I appreciated.

The movers showed up at 8:15 - 45 minutes late in a large truck when I had told them that the only truck that could work in my area was one of those small shuttle vans because a larger van would be a fire hazard - they did not listen.

Next, they were not communicative about the weight of my things (unlike the last company I had hired) nor did they keep me updated on where my things were. My things arrive on September 10th and the only way I found out the general ETA was because I called them 3 times.

Based on their estimate, they were two days later (if we're doing business days - much longer if we're not). I emailed Milan regarding this and go no response.

The movers arrived at my home and immediately told me that because they couldn't manage their own time properly, they would not be able to put my furniture together (the only real reason I hired them in the first place, I'm on my own & can't do it on my own) then they tried to double charge me for their services.

I called their manager and he told me that they actually OWE ME a refund and then tried to COVID as the reason as they why they couldn't put my things together?

Next, my coffee table came back completely smashed. The movers apparently filed a complaint in regards to it so I could be compensated for the damage. They also left three little dents in my flooring too.

Last, they left a blanket in my hallway. I called their Manager, left a voicemail in regards to a missing box (I found it later) and the blanket. I never heard back.

I called one more time and left another voicemail, still nothing.

Last week Sunday, I called and finally spoke to someone and she told me that she would have someone call me back in regards to everything - I'm still waiting.

Funnily enough, two days later I got a text from them asking for me to fill out a survey, which I did. I said the same thing as I did above and the form told me that I would hear back from them.. NOPE.

These movers take your money, damage your things, arrive late, try to charge you double the amount, leave their own supplies at your home and then don't even bother trying to get back to you because they don't care - the job is done, right?

I, obviously, will not use this company again & will strongly urge everyone else who reads this not to make the same mistake as me.

Hello Ameet, some of what you have added to your review is correct and some not quite as accurate. We had spoke to our movers and investigated. The report was sent to you and you were compensated accordingly. We hope that you enjoy your new home in Kelowna.

NEVER AGAIN

My recommendation is that no one ever use this moving company! On moving day, no one showed up. Turns out, my point of contact cancelled my move without notifying me based on a text that I had sent saying that the address of where I was moving had changed, but that everything else would remain the same. Once I finally managed to sort it out, they were a day late and I still tipped them over 200 dollars because I felt badly that the Managerial staff had put their moving staff in such a bad position. One of their management team called me to apologize and offered me $200 off my 0ver $6000 move. I reminded him that I had tipped their moving staff more than that. Never heard from him again. Then on the move in day one the movers fell down the stairs, hit his head and knocked himself out. Calling their Safety officer was a joke. She literally said "I have other things going on right now **sigh**." Then when she was talking to the movers on the phone I could hear her swearing and dropping off bombs left and right. So unprofessional. Then had the audacity to ask me to drive all three of the movers to the nearest town with a hospital at 10 at night with zero regard for my own exhaustion. I did so because they were stuck otherwise, because the company does not send its staff with a corporate card or any money of any kind in case they get into a jam. When the movers returned the next day to pick up their truck, one of them was covered in bed bug bites because that safety officer booked them into the cheapest dirtbag motel possible. As I was unpacking I realized that they had broken about 60% of my stuff and to this day I haven't heard back from them even after taking the time to drive their staff to a hospital in a completely different town. I wanted to save the moving staffs reputation here but I don't think that the managerial staff left me any room to do that. The highers lack of effort caused their staff to look really badly and work even worse. Nothing was assembled either. Please use this as a caveat before you hire Burly Boyz.

Official company response

Hello Sharnee. Yes there was a series of unfortunate events surrounding your move and for that we apologize. This is not typical of our business and management had spoke to you to compensate you for the troubles. We had provided you with $300 in compensation last month.

In regards, to the 60% of your items damaged is new to us. As for our Health and Safety Manager she didn't book the cheapest hotel and your conversation with her was quite friendly vs. what you described above.

Do not hire.

Please do not hire this moving company. Destroyed walls, broke a light fixture and then DENIED it.. complained non stop about having to take apart furniture. Didn’t put hardly anything back together. Stated I should have been to take things apart, when I clearly was not told. My day was a complete nightmare and I will be telling everyone I know to not use this company. Complete waste of 2 grand.

Where’s the Zero star rating???

We used Burley Boyz for our move from Calgary area to St St Albert. The sent 1/2 a crew to do entire house in one day. Said, be there at 10, showed up at 4. We had to be out that night, renters moving in next day. Guys worked like dogs all day. Way too much for 2. Left a pile of thing in garage that night and left. Renters not so happy with home next day. Stuff went into storage for about 9 months. When we got new home, stiff showed up, so much damage. Movers were embarrassed, said never seen it so bad. Started dealing with them on damages. Seemed to take forever. I had to get most of places to replace repair things. Then 3-4 months in they switched who I was dealing with. She had zero idea what had transpired. Didn’t bother to check with last guy. He was “busy” moving now. Could not speak to him or whom ever was the manager there. They refused to tell me who was in charge. Girl said this is what we will pay you, no negotiation. Take it or leave it. So much they didn’t pay for. Total scam artists they are, outright lied to my face.

Princess house good destroyed, got ZERO for this. Thats right ZERO $$.

Never never use these guys. You will get scammed. They lost our snowblower!!!! Guys didn’t write it on manifest so screw you. They lost so much of our Christmas decorations but its all just listed Christmas stuff. How do you check a list like that?? Awful customer service. Insurance is a joke they sell you. Do not replace value of item, they depreciate it. $100 metal Christmas ornament gave us $10. What a joke.

Terrible just terrible -100 star rating.

I don't recommend this company!!

No happy at all! Our items were delayed for more than a month instead of the 20days max aggreement, and the only reason they gave is that my destination is far, wherein they knew from day one where the destination is and still they push through, they could've declined the job and I could've have gone to other company who can do the job in timely manner. Then I tried contacting them for at least a discount or refund for this inconvenience but nobody got back to me with my request. They transfer my items to another movers who were the ones who delivered my items. The Burly Boyz picked up my things from Edmonton June 23 but my items were delivered only last Sunday, JULY 31! And since the other movers has nothing to do with the delay they can't give me any discount at all so I still had to pay the full amount to the driver who delivered my items! And still nobody from Burly Boyz responded regarding a refund/rebate from the money I deposited to them. So disappointed and didn't expected it since they had good reviews.

Long-distance move from Ontario to British Columbia

Very disappointed.

Like Emily I wish there was a zero or minus zero rating for this company. We moved from Ontario to B.C. and had nothing but problems right from the start. We were told the pickup would be between 8:30 and 9 am - drivers did not show up until 3:30 pm and did not call us to let us know they would be late. Had to call dispatch twice to find out when they would show up. I had booked a motel room for us and paid extra because we had a dog and thought they were coming early so we had to book the room earlier even though they didn't show up as promised. When we got to B.C. had to wait 3 weeks for our furniture - "wasn't economically good for them to deliver sooner". When we got our furniture it was damaged. Bed rails were missing - if someone can explain to me how 7-8 ft. bed railings can go missing, I would like to hear it. The head and foot of the bed were scratched beyond belief - a retired carpenter has since told us it was clear negligence on the movers part. Our china cabinet had a handle torn off and there are scratches on the side of the top part of it. A stool has two legs broken, and as well there was several of our glasses and ornaments broken. These were put in boxes clearly marked fragile but looked like they had been put thru a wringer. As well, our kitchen table and a second bed both were missing the nuts & bolts. The worse thing is the communication factor is non existent. I had to phone/email several times to try to rectify the situation. In the end, I was offered a paltry $419.00 for all our problems. That isn't even enough to fix the china cabinet, let alone replace our bed rails! The purpose of this review is to hopefully stop someone else from booking this company before they really check them out. They are a horrible company to deal with and very careless so beware before you book them. A mover is suppose to provide less stress to an already very stressful situation not add to it like these people did!

Do Not Hire this Company.

I am only giving one star because there isn't anything LOWER.

I was very unhappy with this company. They needlessly damaged my very expensive dining room table and leather chair, and insisted that I sign the waiver stating "no damage was done" before I had a chance to review any of the belongings that they moved.

I would NOT recommend them to anyone. Unless of course you have money to burn and would like your furniture destroyed.

Moving across Canada.

The service was actually a 6 out of 5. I cannot say enough about how excellent everything was, right from the quote to the delivery. My son is handicapped, the movers in Quebec were professional, incredibly helpful and packed everything securely and arrived in one piece. There was a small incident of compressor oil that spilled onto the recliner, but it was due to the movers putting the compressor on top of the recliner, (which should not have happened, but the movers did not know it was a compressor as it was concealed by blankets). The delivery in Edmonton was on time, smooth and very professional. Tyler, Chris and Amman were extremely capable and upbeat. Thank you for all that you did. The price did not change from the quote and no hidden costs. Would totally recommend this company for any move whether it be local or long distance. Enjoyed the experience.

Move Did Not Happen.

Hi, so I made my deposit $200.00 well in advance for a move date of Friday February 14, 2020. I was all packed and ready to go and just as I wondered where the movers were, Mike called me to say, "Sorry, we don't have any drivers they are all out of Edmonton".

Seriously he said this and then said "I am sure this is frustrating, but sorry".

Horrible. Thank Gawd for Eager Beaver Moving. They made it happen. I still have not got my $200.00 deposit back from Burly Boyz.

DO NOT USE THEM. I SO WISH I DID NOT!

Unreliable.

I normally don’t give a negative review but I just want all customers out there to be aware that this company would cancel on your moving day just like what they did to us. Maybe it’s very rare that this situation happens but it did happen to us.

We requested their service late in the afternoon but around 2:30 PM on our moving day they phoned to ask if they can move us instead on the following day at noon! ? Apprently their crew was at that time still outside the city and are expected to arrive late in the evening. We said that we will wait if they can guarantee us with the moving no matter what time it is going to be. Unfortunately they can’t guarantee us their service until the crew arrives in Edmonton which they were not sure what time that will be. Worst is, that they don’t send their people to work after 10:00 PM. So even if we waited but they arrived by 10:00 the moving would have still been cancelled. That was our last day of our lease with the apartment and could not extend our stay. Me and my husband ended up moving our stuff on our own.

What is unfair with their policy is that you have to give 3 weeks notice to cancel otherwise you don’t get your $200 deposit back. But they are allowed to cancel a couple of hours before your scheduled moving without any compensation. Leaving you helpless and feeling pathetic.

Great Move.

Moved from Edmonton to Kelowna.

The estimate was provided on site quickly, and was considerably less than the others contacted. We had three crews: (#1) to pack and load everything; (#2) to deliver partial load at our request; (#3) deliver the balance. All the crews were excellent in their job and courteous. Communication throughout also was excellent. Nothing was damaged. Final bill came in under the estimate.

The best move we have had.Highly recommend BurlyBoz Edmonton and definately would use them again.

Wow! These guys are incredible hard workers. They stayed focused for 12 hours of heavy lifting. The move took a lot longer than we were quoted but this was not the fault of the crew, more with the quote we were given. The crew worked quickly and made sure everything was well wrapped.

If I was moving again, I would want Johannes, Emerson and George moving my possessions. I highly recommend them.

Not satisfied.

Moved from Edmonton to Ottawa. The movers were 5 hours late picking my shipment in Edmonton and 3 hours late delivering my shipment in Ottawa (30 days later). There was only one mover at destination so he wasn't able to bring all my furniture upstairs. He apparently decided it was fine to set down my $2,000 mattress ina puddle because the entire bottom half of my mattress is soaking wet and smells bad. So after 30 days of sleeping on a camping cot, I still can't sleep in my bed. Many boxes were broken or partially open.

On the bright side the staff were very nice and friendly.

Long-distance move from Ontario to Alberta

If you value your belongings....

Burly boyz moved my belongings from Toronto to Rural Alberta. When the movers showed up in Toronto they were moving boxes from 2nd floor to main on brand new maple stairs. My partner and a friend ended up moving the boxes since they did not want to stop doing it this way. The movers damaged a dresser, sofa leg, outdoor table (they bent leg and scratched top of table all over it). I had 2 chairs and 2 kayaks go missing, these showed up 3 months after move and 1 kayak has damage.

I bought extra insurance, not understanding it is still up to the moving company, how they fix the damage, whether they fix it, and if the payout is enough to cover the cost of damage. They did pay out full amount for outdoor table excluding taxes. It has left me wishing I would have moved myself. At least I would not have damaged anything. Instead I'm left with a bunch of damaged pieces and a sad feeling..

I also wish I could give a zero.

Hire anyone else

Really not worth the stress. Was initially told that our move of a 1+ den would take 9 days average from Toronto to Vancouver. Booked and paid deposit and then the truth came out.. average actually was 20 days. 34 days later we had not received anything- just many lies from customer service. They claimed that our things were in a 4-7 day train transit for over 10 days. Didn't tell us that the movers were coming to deliver, just showed up on day 35. No apologies or attempts to rectify any mistakes. We still don't have our things because we had no notification to book the moving elevator with our building (even though I repeatedly told them that I need 48 hours notice to book the service elevator). If you are considering them, please look elsewhere. I wanted to support a small business but honestly this customer service is despicable.
