American Standard Moving & Storage

I am livid. At first glance American Standard Moving sounded like a godsend for my cross country move however the whole experience turned into a nightmare. The original 'Senior Relocation Specialist' did not correctly write the packing list and when it was supposed to be confirmed he did not fix it. he assured me it would be "fine" and if he had missed things the movers would still be able to take it at no additional cost to me. This was not only not true but I was not even able to get it corrected. So it cost me an extra $500. I accepted that and tried to keep a positive outlook however he promised the delivery would be made within 2 weeks and it has now been well over that with no word as to when I will get my stuff. I have repeatedly tried to contact him with no success. The customer service seems to not have the ability to resolve the issue either. I would recommend using a different company especially if you have time constraints or children.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2500

PROS: the broker will arrange and find a third party mover who is on your route.

**The third party mover I had was very nice (the logistics was at the companies convenience - not customers); 2 boxes lost, but expect a box to go missing when you go in a warehouse for storage for an extended period. Honestly - this will be a luck of the draw....so I'm simply reviewing the bait and switch broker company & professionalism.

CONS: They grossly underestimate the quote to get you to sign with them and they have NO accountability (or apparently conscious) that they are doing so. I asked all the "right" questions when moving (i've moved on average once a year for the last 10yrs - i should have known better). When you try to talk to them about anything after, they push it off to the third party (so what did I pay them for?) and since you pay upfront quite a bit of "non refundable fee" and you have already planned your schedule around this... so in other words - you are stuck in a rock and hard place - and you pay the additional costs.

ADVICE: Use a company that sends someone out to give a proper quote after looking at your belongings. I've always done so, but with covid I assumed this was an adjustment for safety.

Good Luck with the Move. Moving is stressful and moving companies should be helping, not adding additional stress.

Move size: Studio Service cost: $2550

They state they are a carrier when they are in fact a BROKER, they'll tell you to look them up on FDOT website which lists them as a carrier but they will still broker out your move!

They state they are 'different' by giving you a quote based on your inventory, they are STILL using cubic feet for your quote. Even though it is a binding NOT to exceed a certain amount, DOES NOT matter! They quoted me for the average size of items but their estimate was 40% less than what I had and I even overestimated on my inventory list.

I had Ocean Moving and Storage show up at my door instead of American Standard and they refused to pack my stuff until I agreed to pay over $1000 more than my quote.

Once they finally dropped off my stuff things were broken. My TV was ruined, handle ripped off my dresser, and other items were wet. They tricked me into signing option 2 on the insurance coverage. Option 2 states you are only insured for $.60 per pound, my $1k TV is only worth $24 and the claims process is grueling. The paperwork states option 1 is included in your moving estimate which is a valuation of your items rather than weight but they don't have you sign on that line and rather sign the insurance by weight and don't deduct the cost from the total of going with lesser insurance even though your moving cost should include the valuation insurance it doesn't matter if it isn't signed on the option 1 line.

When getting a quote they stated mattress moving bags and TV boxes were included, they were not. Luckily I had my own mattress covers and TV boxes because they wanted to charge $75/TV box when they cost $18 retail.

They were deceitful and intentionally misleading and back you into a corner because no one has a second mover on standby in case they show up and pull a fast one on you. y advise is to avoid cheap moving prices because you will end up paying for it in the end!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3080

Vince made many promises all are lies. He said contact him if their is an issue. Lie. He never responded past the sale. He said he added a protection. Lies. He said so many lies it’s hard to keep count. Now all my house hold goods are unprotected . I spoke to customer service there is nothing they can do. I would avoid this company at all cost. They have a Predatory business model. I’m a disabled vet on a fixed budget so I’m forced to use moving company. I’m left 2000$ short and unprotected. Please know they will lie to get the sale. The person selling the product will have nothing to do with you beyond the sale and will not be held accountable for the lies. Vince is a sales manager he should be reprimanded for these business practices. Totally unethical to take advantage of disabled people like this. Disgusting.

Move size: 4+ Bedroom Home Service cost: $15300

When I contracted for this move I was verbally promised delivery from Windsor CA to Portland OR in 5-7 business days, although nothing on the document I E-signed mentioned delivery time. As the truck was being loaded the driver said 7-10 business days. At no time did I see or sign anything in writing until their truck was loaded with all my belongings. At this time I saw in fine print on the back of the Interstate Bill of Lading contract that it could take 30 business days. This is day 11 for a 600 mile trip. I am nearly eighty, sleeping on a borrowed air mattress and running out of the two weeks of prescription medication that I packed to be on the safe side. At this point they have 75% of what I owe them when contracting in all good faith for their services. When I talked to dispatch this morning I was told another 5-7 business days. Hire someone else.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4130

If I could give zero stars, I would. This was the worst moving experience. They sub contract all of the moves to the WORST companies. They were 3 days late (with no notice--I had to call them for updates each day when they didn't show up); they charged me more than $500 in additional charges; they updated the contract multiple times without my consent; they cannot give me a time frame for delivery except 1-21 days, "we'll call you an hour in advance"; and ZERO customer service.

Scam 1: The company is telling me that because my unit isn't next to the elevator at the storage facility that it is a long haul. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. The ORIGIN is the storage facility which the truck is literally parked inside of. This is NOT A LONG HAUL. And this isn't the first time I'm sure you all have picked up from a storage facility and AT NO POINT did anyone ever say this was a possibility.

Scam 2: They eyeball the feet!!! They are "experts" and can see that its over 75 feet.

Scam 3: A flight of stairs is 7 steps not the typical 12. They will tell you the first flight is free, but it's actually a 1/2 flight.

Scam 4: They will park on the other side of the street directly across from your house and now claim again its a long haul - its over 75 ft.

Scam 5: They send a shuttle even if you don't need one! And they move your stuff from one truck to another truck --- what's the point of signing that all your stuff is inside?!

I feel lied to and taken advantage of.

As someone who thought all moving companies struggled in some areas but eventually got the job done...I am officially a sucker. These slimy brokers will book you in and once they get your first payment- you never hear from them again. They pair you with an actual moving company (I think?) who has an entirely different timeline. Got our stuff 2 weeks late with no updates unless WE called. Also had some damaged items. Every time I called into my sales rep (Jason) he ignored me and sent me to the abyss that is their customer service line.

Truly wouldn't even call this a company. Should be illegal how bad the service was.
