Long-distance move from California to New Jersey

Dishonest Unethical Movers.

Horrible, dishonest company that I had the misfortune to ever deal with in my entire life. You will not pay more with another reliable company like Bekins or Mayflower. Worldwide Van Lines gives you an attractive quote then sells your order to national mover who comes into your home, jacks the price up between $800 - $2000 per cubic ft. for climbing a few stairs, wrapping blankets, tapes which by the way is in the quote already.; then turns around and sells your order to Cardinal Movers. All my things came in very bad condition, lamps broken, mirrors and vases broken. My ladder, a very expensive carpet, tools boxes and a whole lot of things simply disappeared. It's so sad, it may not mean anything to the movers but they are my priced possessions and mean a lot to me and my kids. They picked my things up 2 days later than the actual pick-up date after so many phones calls; then delivered my household goods 29 days later, after I had threatened to report them to the police. They behave like a fly by night company, no morals, no values, no pride in doing their job. The so called manager Darly Lawson with Worldwide Van Lines never returns calls and is always away from his desk or at lunch. The dispatcher named David Anderson from National Movers told me a set of lies every time I had called. He even lied that they do not have a tracking devise and cannot locate my goods until the driver calls in. It was my worse nightmare and moving experience. I have moved overseas from Malaysia/Singapore/Hong Kong and had a very good smooth experience and not a single thing was damaged or broken. But with Worldwide Van Lines, National Movers, never, never!! Pay more, but never go thru this nightmare with these unethical, dishonest crooks. Worldwide Van Lines LLC, and National Movers should be shut down.

Long-distance move from Vermont to Texas

Would not leave me alone!

I asked to be taken off of their phone and email list numerous times, and finally got nasty on the phone today. Once I hung up, I had 10, yes 10, emails immediately from Susan. The same email. Clearly attempting to press my buttons. I replied that I had told her I was not interested, and due to their disrespect and lack of consideration when calling numerous times a day, at all hours of the day, that I would use a moving company that cost double before I ever used them. I got this gem in return:

"I'm sorry you feel the way you do. If you would have sent an email letting me know that you were NOT INTERESTED a while back, I would have removed you from our list. You never told me that you were NOT INTERESTED. Thank you so much for your unvalued opinion though. Good luck.

Respectfully,
Susan"

Good to see that the potential customer's feedback is unvalued! As I said, I told her many times that I wasn't interested. Either she is horrible at her job/checking emails or she just doesn't care! There's a reason that every single person who reviews gives this poor excuse for a company one star!

Long-distance move from Minnesota to Arizona

Do Not Use This Company!

I recently moved from Minnesota to Arizona. I was originally told by my rep at World Wide Van Lines that they use their own fleet of trucks and that my stuff was going to be loaded on one of their big semi-trucks. When the movers showed up (Dependable Movers) there were two guys (one in his late 60's!) driving a little Budget rent-a-truck.

About 2/3 of the way through loading up my stuff they ran out of space on the truck. There is no way that should have happened as I sent World Wide a detailed inventory of everything being moved. The two guys then told me that they were NEVER TOLD of the estimated weight or shown the inventory list. All they were apparently told was that it was a small apartment. True it was, but it was jam packed with 6000 lbs of stuff!

The two guys ended up putting some of my stuff into a local public storage unit (at their expense) and told me it would follow 1 week later. Well I am writing this review almost 3 weeks later I have yet to see the balance of my stuff!

When my original load of items did arrive at my new home, there were countless cracked plastic totes, crushed boxes, broken items, dinged up furniture, and missing items that they were told specifically NOT to put in storage but to bring right away. To top it off, all the boxes and items were clearly marked as to what room they go in. Somehow, they still managed to misplace items in the wrong areas.

If you are looking to move, I highly recommend that your DO NOT go with World Wide Van Lines or Dependable Movers. I shopped around before choosing them, but was na.

Long-distance move from Missouri to Ohio

Do not use this company!

My move was frustrating at every point after WWVM had my CC number. The movers promised 3 different delivery times along the way, prolonging the move every time. They finally showed up 5 days late at 1 am and demanded $1141.00 cash and said they would put my all of my possessions in storage at a charge of $40/day and that I might see them in a month if I did not pay (my contract was for $900.00 and my understanding was that my CC would be charged the balance.). They are a brokerage firm and have poor communication if any with the movers they hire. Once I paid WWVM my deposit I had no recourse with my contact person or dispatch when the delivery promises began to fall through. No one would return my phone calls. The two delivery men showed up in an old budget rent a truck, had to unpack someone else's possessions (looked like two or three bedrooms worth) on to my front lawn (again at 1 am) and then finally left at 3:30 am. Several items were damaged and several were never delivered. Do not use this company!

Long-distance move from Maryland to Tennessee

9 days late and 45% over estimate.

I contracted for a move in May of 2011. I deal with Charles (charles@worldwidevanlines.com) over the phone and by email. I was told to pay $270 online and then $400 when my belongings arrived at my new location. The move was to take two days. When the movers got to the pickup (11 hours late, at night) I had to pay $350 because the $270 was the fee for the broker, not the movers. They loaded everything and I didn't hear from them again. I called them many times and was in contact with Charles, a dispatcher (New York), and eventually a driver. The driver arrived on June 6th (9 days late) and without warning. I was told that I had 30 minutes to get to my apartment or they would leave, put the items in storage, and I would have to pay for them to come back out. I had to pay an additional $350 to finally get my items. 7 days late and $300 more (45%) than quoted.

Long-distance move from Minnesota to Kentucky

Total Scam.

Three reasons not to use Worldwide:
1.  They underquoted us by over 2500 lbs., even though we told them we thought they were low.  However, they assured us that "they've been in this business a long time and knew what they were doing".  Right.  The move ended up costing us more money because the $/lb. is higher on the backend rather than if it was quoted as such up front.
2.  They ended up having to put our goods on two trucks, with the second truck taking 21 days to arrive.  We originally told that we would have our goods in 7-10 days.  Not so.
3.  On the second truck that took 21 days to arrive, our goods were taken somewhere, offloaded, stored in a non-climate controlled facility, reloaded and then finally delivered.  The high temps caused damage to some wood furniture pieces, and other had some damage due to multiple handlings (loading, unloading, reloading, and unloading again at our home).
4.  Cannot get them to send us a claim form for damages -- we have asked numerous times over the past two weeks for a claim form, but apparently they are not willing to send us one.  Therefore, we are having to resort to filing a small claims suit against Worldwide.  It isn't so much that the damages were huge, it's the principle of their just not responding at all to a customer request.
STAY AWAY FROM WORLDWIDE.  THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS, HAVE ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE IN BUSINESS.  PERIOD. .

Long-distance move from Wisconsin to Maryland

Terrible.

Yes, they have wonderful quotes, and yes, the person you initially talk to sounds wonderful. Everyone sounds wonderful! Anita, in my case, sounded wonderful. After I paid the $500 deposit everything was terrible.Truthfully, this was my first big move. I'm not an expert and I should have been more thorough in my research. I guess it just seemed to me that NO moving company was loved by everyone or even anyone, so I figured it was sort of a coin toss. I was wrong, big mistake, don't make the same one. So there you have the acknowledgement of my own naiveté.I was moving from Madison, WI to Baltimore, MD. Everything was packed and ready to go, and despite the fact that there was not much that Worldwide Van Lines WOULD guarantee, Anita assured me that they would definitely pick up my items within a 48 hour window. That was a solid guarantee. Saturday June 29 or Sunday June 30. I was told by Anita that I would be given at least 24 hours notice before that weekend, so that I would know which day the movers would arrive. Specifically, she said: "If you don't hear from someone by Thursday, call me and I will help you."  This was the beginning of no one picking up the phone. Up to this point, everyone had called me back and kept me updated. Friday rolled around..no updates, so I called three or four times before their office closed at 4pm eastern, and finally someone picked up the phone.  "Saturday at noon," they said. "Okay," I said. And I also said "Thank you," because you should be nice to people driving your life across the country. My mom drove up from Milwaukee with all my leftovers from my hometown. We waited. I called at 2 pm. We waited. I kept calling. All of the phone numbers, which is only like two. Around 4 or 5, someone answered and said "That's weird, we have you down for Sunday at noon." Okay. To be clear, I did not mishear the pick-up date the first time. 0% chance of a mistake on my part. On Sunday, no one came. And no one picked up the phone. All day, no one picked up the phone. On Monday someone told me that there had been storm damage to the phone lines. There was no storm damage to the phone lines; I have internet access. At this point I was only threatening to cancel, because who am I going to hire at this juncture? They got me on the phone with a manager, who I don't remember, because this was June and we just got the deposit back today, in September. I said I will keep you if you guarantee to pick up my stuff tonight (she said sorry, Tuesday it is), and if you give me a discount. Because I was already violating the terms of my lease, which ended June 30. And then I cancelled, because stuff just wasn't sitting right with me? Duh, you say. Well, I'm 27 and a half now, not just 27. Lesson learned.Anyway, long story short, U-Haul is, in fact, totally wonderful if you can make the drive yourself. And their contracted moving helpers are wonderful. Smooth sailing once I kicked the clowns to the curb. Don't hire World Wide Van Lines. Shouldn't even be an option. .

Long-distance move from New Jersey to California

Rip-off.

When signing the contract I was promised by the person arranging the deal that the delivery would take 10 days. He asked for /-24 hour window. The pickup was scheduled for March 20 in NJ. The delivery in CA was supposed to be on March 30. The pick-up guys should on time and I do not have any complaints about them. The nightmare started when they already holding my stuff hostage. I had to fly to CA on March 29 in order to accept the delivery. When I landed, I called the company (the guy’s name was Chin) and was told that they are running late and will deliver my stuff next week. After a week I called the same guy again and was told that they have some troubles and there will be another delay, because the truck broke down en route. I kept calling every 2-3 days, but was not given any meaningful information. Finally, it was delivered on Apr 21, more then a month after the pick up date. I had to sleep on the floor and could not even rent furniture since I never had an honest delivery date. The driver who delivered my stuff told me that he picked it up in NJ 5 days ago, which means that the company was lying to all that time. The estimated price for the move was $1,200, however I was eventually charged $1,700. I was moving a 1 bedroom. The only item which got stolen or lot was a small ladder.

Long-distance move from Washington to Texas

Disgusting company!

I did a small move from Seattle to Dallas, I paid in advance and I was told it would take 4-7 days. They picked up in June and didn't drop till march of the following year. This company does not own their own trucks, the hire day laborers to move your stuff. I had already flown to Dallas, they were 5 days late picking up my stuff and my mother said they showed up in a Ryder moving van. Turns out, somebody worldwide van lines hired was a guy that had stolen mine, plus a few other people's paperwork and decided to pick up our things and force us to pay more money in order to deliver my things. When I refused to pay the driver hung up and I and I were never able to contact him again. He had abandoned my property in a storage unit in CA. And it sat there till the storage unit almost auctioned it off due to lack of payment. The dot stepped in, found mine, plus a few other people's property the day it was to be auctioned off and was ab;e to get me my things. Now, worldwide van lines will not return my calls, all I'm asking is for my money back. ($1175.00 is all I'm asking) this company is a scam! I also referred a family friend to this company and they scammed them out of $5000.00. They said they had a $5000.00 balance and they wouldn't drop their property until they paid the balance. They also paid in advance before they ever picked up. Do not use them, pay the few extra bucks and go with a reputable company.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Florida

Stole Half my belongins.

I had done a search for movers to get quotes and Worldwide was a couple thousand cheaper than 2 other companies. Blake the salesman said the reason for this is that they had 2 empty trucks coming back to Florida and this is how he could do it. I had included 1 months free storage that was suppose to be in Delaray beach Florida that Blake said I would be able to come and get things as I needed from this storage. The day of the move who shows up a company that has a rented Ryder Truck no business cards and a bunch of scram artists. They new my closing was 2 days away and they only had the one truck that they would fill up and I find out way after the fact that it went to their storage in Union NJ  on the second day they started extorting me for $5000.00 more than my not to exceed quote of $12,180.00 I was forced to sign and give a additional 3800.00 or they would leave the rest of my stuff and cause a problem with my closing. The day of the delivery came and they only shipped 1/2 my belongings and wanted another $5000. to get the rest. All along Worldwide would not take any resonsibilities and would never return a call. This Best Deal movers that I found out that was a subcontractor since went out of business and stole $60,000.00 worth of my belongings  I have law inforcement and my Homeowners involved at this point. THEY SHOULD ALL BE PUT IN JAIL!!

Long-distance move from Louisiana to Virginia

Worst Moving Company Ever.

My review is in line with all of the other reviews I wish to god I had checked before I signed on with them.  I got a bunch of quotes from several companies for my move from New Orleans to DC.  Worldwide had the best quote and the salesman was very nice and accommodating.  That is where my good experience ended.

Once they sent me the contact forms I reached out to my customer person and said I was concerned about the window since I needed to be out of my apt by Aug 15th.  He agreed and said he changed my scheduled move date in the system from the 14th to the 12th to make sure I was out on time and I could just sign the contract.  I did.  As my move approached no one contacted me about an arrival date.  On the 11th and 12th I called the offices to get an estimate but no one was in on the weekend.  I did get someone on the 13th who said my mover was coming the following day.  On the 14th when I didn’t hear from the actual mover I called again and was told he was now coming on the 16th.  I called them a bunch of times and said that was unacceptable since someone had to move into my place on the 16th – I planned this all around having my things out.  They said my original contact gave them a 48 hour window from the 15th and that was the agreement.  I sent them the email where their salesman confirmed my new window started on the 12th.  Finally they agreed to come on the 15 – showed up that afternoon a couple of hours before I had to go to the airport.  I had to leave as they were loading and told them to lock up/leave the key when they were done (I did have a neighbor looking in to make sure they did this on time).  They left a ton of trash and my deposit was reduced for cleaning fees based on that.

I told the movers at the time that I was not moving into my new place until 10/1 and that they would move my stuff to a storage unit I bought in VA instead of a new apt.  I guess that meant to them that I didn’t need my stuff.  I contacted them after I didn’t hear any update on my delivery at the 30day promised window.  I had multiple contacts with them saying I had someone to oversee the move to the storage unit as soon as they could deliver.  They didn’t deliver until 10/6 – way past the DL.  All through the end of September I was on vacation and trying to get in contact with ppl (frantically) from Europe and Africa.  They were very hard to reach.  When my stuff arrived it was with a different mover than had picked up.  He said my things were all wet (including my mattress) because he and another mover had switched my stuff to his van at 2am at a truck stop the night before and it was raining.  Some of my stuff was soaking and he had shattered a dining room chair in the move.  There was extensive water damage.  I was missing several things.  None of my furniture was wrapped (wrapping and disassembly was included in the contract) – including a couple of things I had personally bought protective cloths for to make sure they were protected.

I had put my clothes in vacuum bags and those in furniture (wrapped and taped), suitcases and boxes.  Those were all taken out and opened.  I was missing several items of clothing that someone had gone into a suitcase and opened a bag to get.  They were clearly going through my stuff.  All of my furniture was scuffed up and damaged from being moved around so many vans without being wrapped.  After delivery I contacted them about some missing items and got a few of them back (an empty suitcase with everything that had been packed in it missing and a broken picture).  Several of my things and a valuable mirror were completely missing.

I filled a claim form on 10/15 with “Luke”.  He said he they were required to get back to me in 120 days.  A few days after that window I emailed to get an update.  I emailed again the following week.  Then I called.  Finally I got through to someone who said my claim would have been passed along to their third party insurer and I needed to follow up with them.  She gave me a name and number.  I called them and it was a moving insurer and they were incredibly nice.  They could not find my claim.  They looked under reference number, my name, my move date.  Finally the person checked the system for the moving company and said his company didn’t have any record of doing business with a company called worldwide van lines.  He tried to conference them in to clear this up but no one picked up.  In the 2 months since then I have called over a dozen times and left messages.  They never call back.  I sometimes can get a woman on the phone (ext 421 – the only person who occasionally seems to answer phones there)  she said I need to clear it up with her super Kevin at ext 450.  I have left him many messages.  I have had her pass notes to have him call me back.  Nothing.  I don’t think he exists.  His ext goes straight to VM, he’s never in the office and he hasn’t returned any of my messages.

I know I wouldn’t get much money for the damage – nothing to approximate what they damaged and outright stole from my move – but I think I’m going to sue them anyway.  Small claims court is probably not worth the time but I’m incredibly angry at this point.  PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE.  DO NOT USE THES MOVERS.  THEY ARE THIEVES AND SCAM ARTISTS.  .

Received call from police.

Its been a day and a half since all our belongings left ND (2 days late). Received call from police. ..stating the guy driving the rented moving van..had no cdl license, his passenger has a revolved drivers license..no medical cards..no DOT numbers..no log books..etc. I told the police that after they left..they called and raised the price $8000. All we want is our stuff back. The police gave them fines of 1075$ and they can't leave SD until it is paid..they have the moving van locked up for least 24 hours..they forwarded everything to the attorney general. They said they are doing everything they can to they and help us get our stuff back even though it is a civil matter. They know its a scam. I am waiting for the police to call me back today to tell me what's going on. Everyone who has had issues with this company..please email me at s_welken@yahoo.com so we call all get together and put a stop to this" company" . Thanks.

Just like all the others, worst moving experience ever.  If State Wide Movers from Encino, CA arrive in a rented Budget truck cancel your move.  Again, cancel if State Wide Movers show up. Misleading salesman.  Final price was 3 times the quote.  Late, no communication and damages.  .

Poor Service Broker.

THEY ARE ONLY A BROKER!! they will contract your move out and usually to a poor company that is not licensed and insured even though they should be based on the contract but we found after that ours was not and had cancelled his insurance leaving us with damages and no recourse. The mover was late and the reason is they use the back roads to bypass the weigh stations and inspections. you will be pushed to pay more for every detail and even as we pushed back we were lucky and only paid based on the contract but the average person would have been scammed. Be very cautious on using them, they lie, and will take your money and wont want to talk with you ever again. the reason they don't accept credit cards at pickup and delivery is because you can't dispute cash and their contract is written to fight the best merchant complaint. I would never use them again and hope no one else does either.
