DO NOT USE!! Stay away from Urban Movers if you want peace of mind.

Engaged them for a direct pickup and drop-off from VIC 3037 to QLD 4305 on 10 Jan 2022.

Based on my interactions with this company, they are scammers or fraudsters that are unable to offer advertised service. See also reviews for Cheap Interstate Movers in ProductReview.

Cheap Interstate Movers and Urban movers seem to be the same as their contact numbers, registered address, trucks, people all seem to be connected and the same. Some of the registered/advertised addresses are houses and the residents claimed no associations with the business. I have called contact numbers listed on Urban Movers and Cheap Interstate Movers. They were answered by the same people.

No show on confirmed date (10 Jan 2022) attributing to misunderstanding despite the fact there was clear communication and confirmation from the company by email. They committed 2 days later and no show attributing to drivers being infected with Covid. On Day 3, they picked up household items for direct delivery (as that was the only agreed services I engaged CheapInterstate Movers for) to QLD.

On Day 4, they demanded double the agreed amount attributing to extra m3 volume. Also, they were not providing any definite dates for delivery (except for some verbal promises and avoiding sending any email to confirm the same). Despite the fact that I never agreed for them to store any of my household items, they held my items ransom for about 14 days - violating all terms of agreement, ignoring requests to return my property.

We had travelled into QLD, stranded - unable to move into the QLD property as we were deprived of our household items. They refused even to return it back to the pickup address as they seemed incapable of delivering items to drop off location. They deliberately tried to have limited email communication to avoid any evidence.

On 14th day, I had to get my household items returned back to pickup location paying off the demanded ransom (i.e. 20% of agreed amount) since I was unable to vacate the property in VIC or move into the one in QLD as all my household items were being held unsafely by Cheap Interstate Movers for 14+ days. Despite requesting an invoice/receipt for this payment, they haven't provided it yet increasing my doubts on this being a scam business.

Despite me trying for amicable settlements to resolve and their unwillingness have led me to have serious doubt on their ability to do interstate move of household items for any consumer.

Some items were lost (stolen) and damaged when they returned items back to pickup location. I am still pursuing disputes and complaints with the authorities demanding justice for me as a consumer.

I hope my review here helps consumers looking for being tricked by these scammers / fraudsters. If you look closely you can recognise most of the good reviews/testimonials are submitted by the company associates and friends - not real customers.

I have attached pictures of the truck that took my household items to show that Urban Movers was also associated with my move. Drivers on Urban Movers truck demanded the final payment to drop off back at pick-up location to Urban Movers bank account or threatened to take items back.

This is possibly our 4th or 5th move with Urban Movers, & we will genuinely never let anyone else touch our belongings. My partner & I have moved from studio apartments to townhouses, townhouses to units & semi detached homes, cottages & units to a large family home. All the Urban movers staff are experienced, friendly, incredibly efficient, careful, & professional. We could not recommend them any more highly. Put your move in the safest hands, & hire Urban movers. We're genuinely not kidding when we say they saved our sanity more than once.

I booked an interstate move of one room of belongings. Our goods were not picked up on time. Our phone arrangement was for delivery within 3-5 days, their written arrangement was for 7-day delivery and after needing to get the police involved our belongings did arrive 2 and a half weeks after pickup. There was over $2,000 worth of damage. JUST AVOID THESE PEOPLE, but if you want to read on, here are the details of our experience...

No-show on date of pickup, no call, apology or explanation. We rescheduled pickup for another two days - my wife again took the day off work. Two guys arrived in a dented truck with no signage, the first thing they said is "we parked on the street so if we get a parking fine you're paying for it". It was difficult to communicate as the main guy was talking on his headphones most of the time in an Indian language and made out it was a huge inconvenience to be interrupted. After picking up most of our belongings, he said they would be charging extra for 3 skateboards that were not listed on our inventory, even though our list included 30 boxes and we only had 21 boxes.

The arrangement was for delivery within one week. After a week, I had to call and was told they mixed up the loads so it wouldn't be delivered for another 7 days.

On the scheduled delivery day, no show, no call, and I couldn't get in contact with the movers. At the end of day, I called again and was told they would "surely be there in 1-2 days", but she couldn't give an exact day or time. The next day I confirmed delivery for the following morning. That morning, no show, no call. Early afternoon, after several calls, I was told they would arrive that afternoon between 5-7pm. Again, no show.

Lisa from their office wouldn't give me the removalists' contact number or say where they were or when they would arrive, but "surely it will be in the morning". By this time we suspected this was basically just a robbery, so the next day I went to the police. The police called Lisa in the late afternoon and gave them until close of business the following day otherwise would open an investigation into theft... That day, I was told the van had been in an accident so couldn't get there today... but would surely be there tomorrow. Finally, the following afternoon the truck DID arrive - with one guy.

He insisted the company be paid in full before unloading. We refused, as the job wasn't complete and how could we know if all our belongings were there? Or even intact after an accident? He drove away. We called the police again, and he returned. I did pay up just to get it finalized, and he unloaded, needing help with heavy items as there was only one guy, and dumped everything inside the front door.

When he said he was finished, we said let's just check the truck... sure enough there was another box of goods and a part of the bed frame.

When finished, he wanted us to sign his completion form, including taking all responsibility if there were any items missing or damaged. No way!

After we checked all our items, the bed was damaged, couches were damaged, and a box of books was water damaged. We are currently going through Vic Consumer Affairs for $2,200 compensation and refund of the service fee.

Also FYI, this company's ABN 30 860 276 714 is also for business names - Cheap Removalist Melbourne, Intestate Movers and Packers, Melbourne Houze Removalist, Interstate Car Transport, Sam Movers N Packers, and Aussie Clean.

The website looks professional and reliable - but from our experience, that is very false. We had a BAD experience and hope this review helps others avoid the stress!
